hey everyone, so video out worked on rogers 2.1, but now I'm on rogers 2.2, just got a fancy new pico projector and... video out is scrambled...
has anyone tried video out on rogers 2.2?
is my cable shot or is the rom?
thanks
which pico projector? there are tons, plus they make the projector chipset used by other companies, dell pico, samsung pico ect...
2nd did you have the projector with 2.1? sounds like you got it after 2.2 by the way you posted. if so i would try hooking up to a TV with 2.2
2.2 works fine for me hooking up to TV and my cars in dash DVD screen, only trick is my RED cable is video and Yellow is Right audio.
but you are getting a scrambled picture? try pushing pulling on the 1/8" jack, i have heard other people say that they come across some jacks that dont click in place properly, might be getting some auido interferance crossing-over? (just a thought)
the projector isn't at fault, it's just RCA and works with the xbox/ps2, etc. trested that first thing to make sure it wasn't at fault.
what cable are you using?
I've tested the leads with a multimeter and they all seem to be where they should according to the pinout, so it must not be fitting in right, no clue what would have changed.
I think I might need a new cable then if you're on 2.2 with no issues.
can you confirm where you got yours?
thanks

Hi guys,
I'm about to get my Captivate next week.
Just wondering which ROM and cables are you using to make this work?
Does it work on the Cognition Froyo ROMs for example?
Would this cable work?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/3-5mm-3-5-mm...891?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e5c9d07c3
cheers! Looking forward to joining the Captivate Clan soon
For .99c you can give that cable set a try, but I tried the cable that came with my old Nokia N95 and it didn't work...so I ordered the cable on the Samsung site for $19.95 and guess I'll see what happens
This is what I bought. They're $0.39. Any ROM will do.
Cables
I'm using Cognition Beta 9 and using the cables provided from the second generation Zune dock.
ps. I'm also using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse when I enable tv out.
Still no luck with the wiimote.
Edit: If you don't get any video out you may need to switch the yellow and red or yellow and white. Also tv out has to be enabled which is under settings>display.

I am quite frustrated with my Captivate. I bought two different cables on ebay and both doesn't seem to work no matter which plug I switched around.
Any solutions? Anyone got their Captivate tv out working properly? Which cable did you use and most importantly where did you get it from?
got this for $0.44 and it works flawlessly and yellow is video too!
www amazon com/gp/product/B000GGQ2ZU/
Can it also be a ROM/Kernel issue? (with some features being incompatible)

get a cable that works its bad enough we have to deal with an out dated connection from the days of vhs giving poor resolution, switching audio for video will make one audio chanel lower volume (depending on the input impedance of the tv audio in) and cause artifacts in the video from not having a video cable.
video cables are 75ohms vs near zero for audio.

Why would you want all that resistance in a cable?
Wouldn't that cause near to nothing to get transmitted?

Hi,
I am a new user to the forums. Recently I have purchased TV out original samsung 3.5 to RCA cable for TV out capability but I see distorted image on TV. Thought it was a cable problem and went to at&t device support center but they couldn't help me out because they can't test my device at there center. I wonder any one tried it and if so is there any limitation on hardware/software for captivate.
Please help.

Mine works just fine, quality is comparable to an old VHS vcr.
Some cables you have to switch the red audio out with the video to get them to work right.(use right audio for video, and video for right audio)

Thank you Nick for the quick input. I appreciate your concern.
Might want to also try jacking with the cable on the phone end.
The 3.5mm Jack isn't exactly a "Great" output mthod for Video. Try just pulling it up and pushing it down a little. You can fell where the grooves are. Just try to move them around in there to get a better connection.
Thats what worked for me @ least.
I'm slightly miffed as to why Samsung decided no HDMI out, and instead stuck with a crappy 3.5mm headphone out for video.
Works fine for me....can't seem to get the volume any louder though

I also get the same distorted video and a buzzing-hum that drowns out the audio with my 3.5 to RCA/AV cable. I have tried both tv out settings on the phone and swapping the red and yellow ends of the cable. I can, however, use my Play Station 3 to watch, copy and save videos and pictures with the usb cable. It works great and gives awesome audio and video.

Same here.
I just ordered an RCA out cable and am really excited to get it. Even thought it isn't HD it will still be really nice to do.
I was surprised with how good the quality is. I use a cable that came with my Zune dock. It matches correctly to the inputs. My phone looked much better than the Zune did using the same cables.
The audio was great, and the video was as others said VHS quality. Definately watchable. I will say the landscape quality was much better than the portrait quality. On my HDTV I want to say it wasn't full screen, but using the zoom in the TV menu it became full screen, correct proportion.
I agree that Samsung leaving out HDMI support is bad, and disappointing after they told everyone a micro-usb to HDMI cable would fix that, then changed their minds.
This is a problem I won't trouble myself with much longer, I plan on getting an Atrix when they come out.

SM Galaxy S Captivate I896 running CM7: 3.5 mm to AV out?
Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone knows whether or not I can use the 3.5 MM to AV out option with a Captivate I896 that has been modded with Cyanogen Mod 7.
I don't seem to have the TV out option in my display settings.

Interested in the whole PS3 thing. How do hook up phone to PS3? Headphone jack to USB or a way to go micro-usb to USB?

Curti.nogg is correct, unfortunately :-( TV-out is not yet supported with CM7. Maybe if enough people talk about the devs will look into it...

I just use the usb cable that came with the phone or any other micro usb to usb 2.0 cable. Just write folders on your phone's sd card named PHOTO, MUSIC and VIDEO. Put your photos, music and/or video into the corresponding folders. Plug the phone to the PS3 via usb cable. Turn on usb debugging on the phone. Now look on the PS3 in PHOTO, MUSIC or VIDEO for USB MEDIA STORAGE. There will be all your stuff. You can copy back and forth or just play it on the tv or sound system.
Sorry it took so long to answer, I totally forgot all about this thread.
I have the Dell home dock and the HDMI does not work properly. When I try view videos or photos, the image is distorted on my TV screen and only fills the top half of the screen. Audio works perfectly.
I noticed this after upgrading from 1.6 to 2.2. I have tried several hdmi cables and several monitors , all with the same result.
Anybody else experience this?
Any ideas what could be happening??
Thanks!!
Which build of 2.2 are you on? I don't recall any of steves supporting hdmi dock.

Same problem here... Froyo ...build 12821
Thought it could be a hdcp issue... But it's test-video shot by both the front and the back cameras of the Streak... The TV (scarlet lg7000) has 4 hdmi/hdcp ports... Tried with couple of them and tried to change the cable too...
As stated by gawarner, audio is ok... Video is distorted and fills the top 20-30% of the screen.
Plus.... If everyone knows... Would like to know if there is a way to mirror the Streak on the monitor (even if it needs the root & cook and a new dock...), please let me know... thanks in advance.

I don't have a dock but i would call dell.. there was a thread i read about someone that wasn't satisfied with it and dell refunded him the money and allowed him to keep it.
Which dock do you have? The original for the Streak 5 or the one that works with both the 5 and the 7? I picked up the latter at the local T-Mo store.
The original for the Streak 5.
Any news Gawarner?
Hello,
tried to find anything about it in the forum... just bought this cable:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270650208388&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
hoping it would work...
i am currently using perception 10.3 and firebird 2 v0.8 kernel, tried switching to the newest speedmmod kernel - didnt work.
is it a 2.2.1 issue? anyone got it to work?
Thank you,
Yossi
Different cables are hit or miss. Some cables just don't work even though they look identical to good ones.
i just want to know if anyone got it to work with any cable on 2.2.1, if so...what is your configuration? (ROM, Kernel...)
My son has a cable for his leapster gamepad. It works great on stock cog2.3b8 however the video (yellow) was actually one of the audio cables (I think red) so you may just need to swap connections around until you find one that works.... make sure to check the tv-out box in settings.
Those cables (in general, I didn't look at the ebay one you linked) work great. The quality is better in landscape mode. I use the one that I got with my Zune dock, it works great, and lined up correctly.
Hi,
a little more info... i ordered the original samsung cable. the seller assured me its a genuine product.
but it is for the i9000.
is there a chance we have a different mapping for the 3.5 mm connector???
Thank you,
Yossi
one more thing, can anyone check with a multimeter a cable that works, and tell me whre does the yellow plug connection go to in the 3/5mm connector?
mine is like this - the pin goes to the 3rd contact, and the ground goes to the fourth contact.
seems right to me...i dont know why it wouldn't work...
looks like a good quality cable too....
anyone has any idea?
Thanks.
Yossi
guys, on my search i found this:

i have my cable set the way its mentioned here. can anyone confirm that this setup works with a captivate? not only i9000?
Thanks!

Good day,
Just bought this HDMI cable for my phone is it suitable?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/6FT-Micro-H...ltDomain_0&hash=item336b725922#ht_3308wt_1037
Last Q, when you connect these cables must you turn off your phone or are they "plug and play"
Thanx!
Looks like it will do the job, you just plug it in and the picture appears on the screen.
Plug and play.
Its a bit of a wank really, show off pretty games to friends.. no real use i can think of.
Unless you wana watch a movie on a tv that has hdmi but no USB.

Would have been better if when you plug the phone into the telly, the screen on the phone then becomes a touchpad that you control a cursor on the screen with.
Would have made for pretty good Angry Birds etc. experiences.
Thanx guys, great for showing off yeah
didn't u got the cable with phone???
HDMI cable was included in box when i bought it.and it works great even can play games without lagging ,full hd support..but ya videos little bit lags...
In Vodafone Romania box HDMI cable wansn't included.

Those thieves!!!, even in Mexico (Telcel as carrier) included the HDMI cable, the main reason I brought this phone! (went from Iconia A500 to this... to watch anime without a PC, I have been without a laptop 3 years straight, I found myself not using it, now with tegra 2 and LG more reason not to).

Yeah they robbed you blind bro.. Cause I have the Canadian (Fido) Version and I got the works.. HDMI, headphones.. usb and Ac adapter.
Mine doesn't have the HDMI cable included as well...
Is it really useful? I don't see I'm gonna need this, but heck I might be wrong...
Hello!
In Germany there isn't a HDMI-cable included either...
I use this adapter and a cable I have always installed in case I want to connect my laptop to the TV.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cablesson®-...HVPM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324144699&sr=8-1
I use it for slideshows, video playback and online radio playback.
...works fine.
And on the phone side it is plug and play, but you TV might need to be changed to the right source channel (i.e. HDMI 3 in my case) – but some TV sets might do this automatically if there isn't connected any other video source.
Heh just remembered, my HDMI cable is hanging out the back of my telly... shame the phone is gone
HDMI is not that useful imho. Some games are great to play on big screen but there is problem with short cable, you need to be very close to TV.
I also tried GTA 3 on big screen (plasma hd ready). Very poor graphic, i would rather install this game on my PC again.

HDMI can be extended http://www.dealextreme.com/p/gold-plated-hdmi-female-to-female-adapter-converter-29363 so you can get at least 3-4m from TV.
Bought it along with micro HDMI and a normal HDMI cable, works just fine. But, it's not so useful, really. Photos are not in high res, movies are sometimes ok but some don't work at all (mkv 4.1 profile and up, there are multiple threads about that). So... maybe it's better to use DLNA and ordinary PC, PS3, real media players.
I never got an HDMI cable in my UK box either.
