[Q] Zagg or Stealth Guard screen protectors? - Adam Accessories

Anyone have an ETA for Zagg or Stealthguard type screen protectors for the Notion Ink Ada? Any already about that may already fit it's dimensions?

Wonder if they will have a matte version. How does it compare to ZAGG or StealthGuard, you know?
-CC

I've had skinomi on my Incredible, and I've used one of the other "indestructible" screen protectors. Skinomi won be over because of their lifetime warranty. I've never noticed the infamous orange peel effect either.
On a side note, even though I've done it multiple times, applying a skin like that on a 10" screen potentially scares the crap out of me because of how much liquid solution it will require.

also, I checked their site and they don't have a matte version but their regular version does cut down on glare a bit.

I usually dunk the protector into the solution and shake some of excess off, but it's easy to do that with 4.3 and 7" screens...

I know there aren't many actual owners yet, but I would like for you that are interested the Adam, please go to ZAGG and StealthGuard and suggest the Notion Ink Adam. Hopefully with some interest, they may deem it worth making a design available for it.
thanks,

Give skinomi a try, you wont be disappointed.
There is another one with the same helicopter blade material I used a couple of years ago... now to remember the name...

good screen protectors?

I went through 2 Invisi-Shields on my Thunderbolt + hated how they made the screen feel. what's something good for the Bionic?
invisi-shield
I've not found anything better for protecting the screen than the Zagg product. Bubbles can be a problem when installing it but liberally misting the screen and both sides of the film when installing, plus repeatedly squeegying the bubbles from center to edge, gets rid of them.
Zagg film has a funky, sticky texture but you get used to it (if you don't want to replace another cracked screen). The Zagg film seems to protect best and it interferes least with touch-screen operation. In fact, on previous phones the Zagg film improved touch-screen functionality.

lol I was actually a big Zagg fan myself. Now my favorite screen protector is......
wait for it....
Gorilla Glass!
Yeah I know you can still scratch it, but I've come to the realization that I prefer not to mess with screen protectors. But if you do want one, I vote for Zagg as well. They are pretty hard to damage and the lifetime replacement is nice to have. As far as the feel...I have really oily skin, and I've noticed that it's a pretty good lubricant for the screen protector...ewww gross I know...but I wonder if there's something you can use to lube up the surface so it feels more like glass?
Anyway, I since grown tired of all the gunk and residue left behind from the Zagg shields. On my DINC there's gooey crap all over in the seem between the glass and the body of the phone. Seems like after about a month or 2 the edge of the Zagg shield starts to look like crap. So I've decided to go naked and just handle the phone more carefully. So far it's worked out for me.
Also FWIW, my friend just bought a replacement glass kit for his DINC for $11. Yeah I know it's an older phone, but if it ever came down to it, I think I'd rather buy a replacement screen for the Bionic than deal with the headache of protectors again.
I opt for the screen's own durability myself. I have only had it for a few days but I carried my Driod 1 around in the same pocket I keep my keys in and the thing never got a single scratch. Honestly I think a screen protector is a lot more trouble than it is worth.
I just get the ones VZW sells. They last forever, 3 in a pack and only use one for the life of the phone.
I like Zagg alot myself. I really don't worry that much about scratching. The finger print buildup drives me nuts. Zagg keeps that way down. I have one on my bionic and my xoom.

Zagg is definitely the best out there imo. I'd rock it naked but i'm too much of a pansy haha
I like zag aswell you get used to the feel after ahwhile. The touch seems just as responsive.

+1 also. Have the Zagg full body protection on my Transformer and hate the feel of the screen protector. First thing anyone mentions when I let them use my tablet is the feel of the Zagg shield.
I got the 3 pack from Verizon when I bought mt Bionic. They probably aren't as good of protection but they feel like your touching directly on the screen. Also, don't get the anti glare ones from Verizon as they have a horrible feel to them. Worse than the Zagg.

The regular ones are pretty bad with prints, I'd say. My coworker has the anti-glare one and the feel/texture is unbearable!
The "normal"/Non-anti-glare ones are very smooth and, like I said above, pretty much feel like you are touching the touch screen directly.

I only use a screen protector to avoid smudges.
And yeah, they do feel weird, but after using them for a year or so - everything else feels weird! Zagg is definitely weird. My buddy has them on his Incredible and Tab. Not sure how I feel about them yet. They always look like crap.

I wrote to PPC Techs to see if they would be releasing a WriteShield for the Bionic. I used their stuff for the last 12 years on almost every phone I've had, and on my wife's iPad. They are tough as nails, piece of cake to apply and a good value. No response from them yet, but if enough people send emails, I'm sure they'd cut some to size and sell them.
Right now I have a Steinhall on mine and the fingerprints and smudges are minimal. They also make it in an anti-glare with a textured feel. Easy to install and once set you probably wont even notice it again.

Why do we need screen protectors?
It has gorilla glass, does exactly what screen protectors do, and still maintains the sensitivity...
Really believe glass covers on gorilla glass phones is a gimmick.
I prefer the Steinheil screen protectors. They cover the entire screen, and can be tricky to line up properly since the edge of the screen is beveled down slightly, but once installed correctly you can't even tell there is one on the phone. The Zagg products are good, but I prefer the smoothness of the Steinheil; it feels exactly the same as the screen itself.
Are the Steinheils of the type that you can remove, wash and replace? I can't seem to find a link for the Bionic version.

Screen Protector

I've always been one to use screen protectors on my displays, even on gorilla glass. With the nexus 7 using an unconfirmed type of corning glass (ie it might not be gorilla glass and instead just have a scratch resistant coating), i figured to go shopping.
XO skins is the company I've been buying from recently. It is very easy to find coupons that will work online. They work really well, although they can feel a bit rubbery. They do NOT have the orange peel texture companies like zagg are known for. Since it is a wet installation, it is sometimes possible to see "rainbow streaks" under the screen over a white background. If you run into this problem, shoot them an email and they'll send you a replacement. Customer service is excellent.
http://xoskins.com/laptops-tablet-r...in-protectors/google-nexus-7-screen-protector
This next one i haven't tried, but it differs from the above protector in that it is a static cling installation. This would probably be good for those who are against wet installations, or fans screen protectors from companies such as steinheil. This one is anti-glare though, so it is likely that it has a matte-textured or cloudy display.

We should be seeing more in the next few weeks. If you find one, post it
until then, cheers
I'll definitely be going with the Skinomi: I've done both Skinomi and ZAGG, and ZAGG is just too sticky for my taste. IMO, my fingers just glide over the screen much easier with a Skinomi protector.
I've always gone with xoskins and their customer service is AMAZING. No joke, if you feel unsatisfied with your screen protector, just email them and they'll most likely send you a new one. I got one for my Galaxy Nexus though one thing about these types of screen protectors is that dents and marks got onto them pretty easily. Even so, I'll still be getting an xoskin for my Nexus 7 (assuming I get one soon).

+1 SGP for screen protectors & skinomi for silver carbon fiber kit
SGPs are great but expensive. I've bought 5$ screen protectors from Frys that have the same quality as my SGPs. Skinomi intends to scratch very easily and it doesn't self heal. Never had experience with XO skins though and I'm not a big fan of water based once anymore since they seem to dent and scratch easily X_x..
I am not a fan of protectors. I don't use one on my Sony EReader (soft screen) or my Motorola phone (Gorilla).
Both have cases, and are scratch-free after a couple of years use.
That works better for me.
Here's what SGP CS wrote back to me when I asked if they plan to make a SP for the Nexus 7
Thank you for contacting Spigen.com Customer Service Department.
Hi, my name is Diana from Spigen.com.
Thank you for your interest in our products! As of now, we don’t have any definite plans to make screen protectors for the Asus Nexus 7 Tablet. However, if there is increased interest from our customers, we may change our production plans in the future. Please check our website for any updates time to time.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Funny thing is that they usually reply with that for most new products if I'm not mistaken.
I'm hoping Clarivue will make a Nexus 7 protector soon. I've always like them, but I'm an acrylic protector kind of person. Just never cared for the "rubbery" feel. I'll put up with the very occasional minor scratch that you can't even see when the screen's on in exchange for a feel that's identical to the screen itself.
i am looking for full body screen protector as iphone
hope sgp makes one soon

Ghost Armor asap, I've had it on every device since my HTC hd2 and it works great for me. Stock gorilla glass (I know the n7 doesn't have it but my wife's Lumia does) seems to get greasy to easily. With my s2 if I get a little dirty I just rub on my pants

I normally just use cheap ones of ebay on my phones which work well enough however my father got a samusung 10.1 and I think because of the size the static as you pull off the second layer just sucked any surrounding particles to the skin.
I bought one from bestskinsever which is a wet application one and it worked very well and was decently priced so I'm planning to get one from them for the Nexus and my new HTC One XL.
I sent a query on their site and got an initial automated reply, the more queries they got for the Nexus the quicker they will start making them.
I used to use typical screen protectors, but I feel they are easier to get bubbles and dust stuck under them and are much less forgiving for mistakes. This is an even bigger problem with larger screens.
I now only use wet application screen protectors, such as InvisibleShield (too expensive), BestSkinsEver, and Prestige / XtremeGuard. There are much easier to apply after practicing on other devices, much more forgiving as if you don't align right, you can easily remove as it's still wet and just spray more of the solution on (water + drop of dish detergent). The secret is to make sure it's always wet when applying and then once it's on, squeegee..if it's not on yet, keep it wet. They do have a bit of texture, but I don't mind it.
I ordered XtremeGuard from ebay for $9 shipped.. much cheaper than the alternatives right now and it ships quick from Utah. I also ordered a folio style case specifically for the Nexus 7 from ebay (shipped from Hong Kong) .. i made sure it was specific because others are selling Kindle Fire cases, but this one has specific slots for speaker and other inputs and is under $10.
Also to the person wanting full body skin...it doesn't make sense to cover the soft back of the Nexus 7 with something like InvisibleShield.
Edit: Links if it's alright:
Screen Protector http://www.ebay.com/itm/32093942421...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3744wt_1396

Yeah, I wouldn't go with anything other than XOSkins.
I'm absolutely 100% satisfied with the way they've worked on my Nexus.
I "pre-ordered" my Skinomi case from Amazon last week. They estimate 8/1 as the shipping date. That could mean two weeks without a screen protector. My OCD-ness won't like that.

I noticed this, that many just cover the actual touch portion. I have a clear Zagg from the Nook Color that fits like this on the N7.

I bought the roocase screen protectors (2 HD and 2 Anti-Glare) and I can say that they are decent screen protectors. BUT you have to get it dead on when applying it as their is no room for error and also at the very top of the glass (above the camera) all the way across it is literally .4mm too short and leaves some glass showing. Not too bad as the screen is scratch resistant in the first place

A month and a half later...
I had amcase matte screen on my n7 for a bit. I got it from amazon. The protector itself was well made as it was sturdy and stiff, not a flimsy cheap feeling. It felt really good on the fingertips with the characteristic matte texture and it did not effect sensitivity, brightness, and color reproduction. Also it limited smudges by a huge factor and did a really good job diffusing the sunlight during outdoor use.
But in the end, one of the best things about n7 is its clear high def screen. Since matte screens make the screen appear fuzzy and does distorts contents on screen I decided to oder amcase clear screen. Am much happier but it does get lots of smudges that needs constant cleaning.
Hope it helped.

I may be alone in this, but I think screen protectors are overrated. The biggest danger to the screen is shattering and no screen protector will prevent that. Unless you have diamonds in your pockets I cannot imagine scratching it without breaking it completely. .

That is a good point, which would go more towards purchasing a case rather than a screen protector, though i have a major pet peeve when it comes to my screen having any sort of scratch..let alone cracks..but IMO i do believe having a well made screen protector on or screens do provide a lesser chaw of getting cracks if the device were to drop!

Fit is perfect and goes from corner to corner very well!

I was using invisishield protector for a few a months. Was a pretty decent protector. Didn't tear, anti glare and all that jazz. I ended up taking it off about 4 months ago because the protector itself was scratched and to be honest, since I removed it I've been asking myself why I bought one in the first place. 4 months later, not a single scratch and I think I have enjoyed the phone more without it. Screen is clear, sharp and bright and still without scratches. Often put in my pocket with keys, lighter and other hazardous materials for out phones.

Yeah, I'm thinking I might get a normal screen protector to put below the built-in one on the otterbox and see if that reduces the sensitivity for me.
Do we really need a screen protector?

same here, what will be the point in selling a super scratch free 2 years old obsolete phone .....
just like the slightly scratched glass on my iphone 3gs I gave to my kids as an ipod touch
I see I'm in the minority here but screen protectors just don't have the same smoothness as the gorilla glass. Coming from a Samsung Impression it felt like I was running my fingers on silk. And after 4 months of always being on my person I can attest gorilla glass is pretty kick ass. I've dropped the phone onto a gravel street and got very minimal damage. Now mind you the phone bounced, landed and skidded about 10' on the kevlar back so maybe it was just a small miracle it didn't shatter. But the only damage was a small knick in the glass on the top corner away from the touch screen and a small dent in the metal around the face. The kevlar took no damage at all. I've also had in a pocket with loose change and keys with no effect.
Now maybe I'm just lucky but the kevlar backing and silky smooth touch of the gorrilla glass as opposed to having to change screens and getting a bulky case that won't fit the HD dock just aren't comparable.
I go a couple of scratches on my screen, probably from it being dropped in the gym and all that good stuff. I went ahead and got a Zagg screen protector off amazon. It's not too bad for the 10 bucks I spent.

Like with every other smartphone I've had, I had a ZAGG InvisibleShield (the InvisibleShield HD for the AHD) professionally installed on my Atrix HD. I never regret it.

Oleophobic Fingerprint resistant screen protector?

I had one on my Transformer and it was fantastic. I got one after someone mentioned how tablets accumulate tons of prints all over the screen.
It did wonders for my screen.
I ordered a wet screen protector and while it looked good, it still had a print problem. Also the N7 has a flat screen and doesn't need a wet SP since there are no curves.
So I'm looking for a dry apply fingerprint resistant screen protector. Any suggestions?

Yea, no that's not what I'm talking about. That's just a matte finish which is not what I'm looking for. The reviews also say it "feels like paper" and "smudges too much". Both something I don't want.
The fingerprint resistive ones I'm looking for aren't matte. They have some kind of protective coating that resists fingerprints.
The one on my Transformer was not matte or anti glare or anything. Just a regular glossy anti fingerprint dry SP.
Any other suggestions? Cause I haven't found any.

This guy did a review on those screen protectors. Shoot him a PM to see how resistant it is to finger prints.

No need for a PM!
The amFilm matte finish screen protector is better with fingerprints than the clear one. You can see smudges with the screen off, but with the screen on, they're not noticeable. I tried taking a picture, but it's not coming out.
Anyway, what you're looking for is an oleophobic screen protector. Spigen makes one for the Nexus 7. I don't know if anyone else does yet.

Learned something new today. :good:
SGP Protector
I really like the SGP ones. I have had them on my Nexus S since I got it and love it. It by no means is fingerprint proof, but does quite a good job. If you have oily hands, you will see some, but not nearly as bad as no screen. I tend to like the matte finishes to kill the reflection as well. It's quite a bit on the pricey side, but worth it since it lasts a while and looks great.
I already purchases the SGP screen protector for my Nexus 7 and it's in the mail. If you don't mind waiting, I can let you know how mine turns out.

Yea this is the stuff I'm talking about. My old one was possibly a matte but felt smooth. It was edge to edge and you couldn't even tell a difference using it.
I got it via being asked to review it, which I gave it great reviews but I can't find my damn review in the Transformer thread to get the name.
I'll look into some further now I know the actual name of that coating but I wanted to see if anyone had any they've found already.
After installing on my transformer, I don't think I ever had to clean my screen ever again... they're that good.

Yea it isn't in there. Maybe it got lost in the shuffle or something. SGP was probably the one though. After visiting the website it looked strangely familiar, as I visited the website to get a running list of features for the review.
Whatever I had before, I want on my N7.
I also changed the title using the relevant keyword.
It looks like the 'official' Google screen protector will be oleophobic. Can't put out a link yet, but...

Keep an eye on the SGP site. Eventually that one will be available to.
I got my crystal clear from them today. And while it isn't fingerprint resistant it is oh so nice.

I know this is old, but how do you like the ultra fine? Is it good against fingerprints? Still very clear? Smooth to drag your fingers?
Thanks!

As some others have suggested, the matte screen protectors hide finger grease and reflections very well. I use these Fosman protectors http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA07R0CA7549 which are excellent and inexpensive. Like any dry apply protector you have to be very careful about dust getting between it and the screen when it is applying. Using the touch screen is much nicer with this screen protector since your finger now glides smoothly over the surface.
