[Q] what best rom should i chose for SGS gt i9000 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello fellow!
i read all relevant post regarding what i'm about to asking but i'm not convinced.
please XDA i'm going to upgrade my SGS gt i9000 on gingerbread
&
i want a custom rom with all lagfix, fast phone & better battery timing.
the main feature i'm interested in is!
i want the moving dock(i think that what it called)where we find 4 button of phone, contact, message, app, on the front homescreen with 7 pages.
in this dock all installed app can be seen at a time by moving it seperately on the homescreen.

there is no stable gingerbread rom atm

What you are looking dor is a scrolling wallpaper just look it up and its not invluded in any rom, we don't have gingerbread on this phone yet. Darky and Dics rom are pretty much the most used rom botb are really easy to configure, darky uses an app from the market and Docs is a web based kitchen. Lagfixes come in kernels, both darky and Doc let you choose the one you want Harcore Speddmode and Supercurio's Voodoo Kernel are the most used but don't let you OC your phone.

zimmbi & GOTFrogqc thank you for your reply.
GOTFrogqc; your reply was really helpfull.
so tell me if there is no gingerbread for sgs gt i9000.then which os should i get for my phone.i want gingerbread please.....

try darky
from my experience, darky rom resemble Gingerbread the most. Compare to other ROM, most additional "features" of Darky ROM were the modifications everywhere (Theme/Icon/Config) to make it resemble as much as possible to the Nexus Ging! I remember a moment Darky changed the boot animation to the one of Nexus S and made it as "feature", then he changed the fingerprint of the phone config to 2.3 and made me beleive that my SGS was Ginger LOL! but it's all over! he's listen to his user, and constantly improve his rom right now. I always think the last stable version of Darky ROM is one of the best rom, and I recommend it for someone who like the taste of Ginger (just theme). And I'm looking forward to taste the official Darky ROM 9.3 with JS5.
As for now, I recommend latest Kitchen DOC/Stef + latest SpeedMod 250Hz + R64 theme (plus Go Laucher Ex + AppOrganizer if you have 313 apps as mine ^^!). No need to lagfix (because there is no more lag to fix ^^) except if you want a higer quandrant (which means nothing).
I do NOT recommend any OC-UV kernel. It fry my phone, give me headache to config the Voltage, the smothness improvement often is not noticiable, but the battery usually drain faster. I think its the reason why hardcore never add OC-UV feature to his kernel (Yes, I think he is very capable to do that)
Thanks for Doc Stef Hardcore R64... to make my phone beautiful and fast.

i would personally recommend darkys rom. I only took the move to install a custom just over a month ago and now my phone is working the way it should be - smooth and fast. if its your first time i would recommend installing his 9.2 resurrection rom - there is an easy to follow guide on how to install it from the main page

+1 for darkys

I've heard a lot of good things about Darky.
I personally use seeArm's Custom ROM because it uses the JL2 modem which I need for the 850Mhz band. I may eventually try to flash with Darky and then write the JL2 modem on top of it, but that's a bit more risky so i'll try it later when i have more time.

[Q] I just want the best Froyo, speed fix and battery %. Which ROM and how??

Hey there guys,
I've had my Galaxy S for about a month now and thinking that its about time to get rid of 2.1 and go for the big 2.2.1 jump.
I just want a stable, fast and reliable version that I can get a speed fix installed on and I want battery percentage.
With so many ROMs out there can someone reccomend a good basic stable ROM to update to? And as a newbie is there a easy walk through that I can follow.
I've that there is a couple of gingerbread releases out there. Are any of them official stable versions for the Galaxy S?
Ta
Js8 + rom (most people go for darky 9.5)
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
From my own experience I can recommend Criskelo Rom - stable, reliable, fast.
But really, you should choose on your own because there are some differences
People would call me boring, but I like stock JS8 + Voodoo Kernel
I like Doc's JS8 because of the kitchen and they always work flawless and are super fast. This way i get what i want the CSC/Modem for my region and only the apps i want. I used only two ROM's Darky and Doc and i prefer Doc due to customization and actually find it much faster then DArky even though Darky's has a higher Quadrant score. Main reason for me not to use Darky is im in Canada and the ROM is more or less geared for europe.
I have never had slowness/lag problems, everything is quick and snappy and this is with lagfix off. Using Speedmod K13c with recommend tweaks on and no lagfix.
When official 2.3 comes out from samsung that is the only time i will update as its PREFECT right now.
+1 for Doc's ROM.
I like that you can customize it the way you want it, choosing the modem, csc, kernel, apps, etc. So you can just install the ROM from CWM and that's it, all working in one go.
I have Doc's JS8 with Damian's Kernel with all ext2, and it works great, IMO, smooth, no lags ever, great battery life. All I ever wanted.
HOW? You'll need CWM to install it (You'll need to flash a kernel with it using Odin if your phone doesn't have it yet.). Just go to romkitchen.org and customize your own ROM with all you want/need, download the generated zip file into your SD Card and install it. Simple as that.
Using
Rom: - Doc V11.1 - ZSJPK,
CSC: - XEU
Kernel: - Damian v1.3 beta 3 (EXT 2)
Modem: - ZSJPG
Undervolt: - 25mv (not stable for anything higher......my phone issue)
Overclock: - 1.280 Ghz
Stable, fast and smooth. Battery life is good as well.
Are you already rooted? If not SuperOneClick works well with stock 2.2.
Next, the easiest kernel to flash as a firsttimer using Odin is definetly Speedmod. Hardcore's instructions are clear and exact. This will give you Clockwork Mod.
Finally, build yourself a ROM in Doc's Kitchen. You can control exactly what elements are installed and the walk throughs linked to the main Kitchen thread make it dead simple.
After you have used one of Doc's ROMs for awhile, if you wish to you can try one of the more baroque custom ROMs like Darky's.

Another + for the Rom Kitchen and big selling point is that the forum is not littered with posts saying this rom broke my phone .

[Q] Can anyone recommend me the best GINGERBREAD ROM out ?

I am a bell i9000m user I guess I should say that (I'm using the 850 band i.e. JL2 modem with Froyo)
I am looking for what is generally considered the best / fastest Gingerbread ROM.
Is it CM ? I heard Juwe's rom is good too. Can anyone point me in the right direction ? Is Darky making one ?
Cheers everyone
does Darky have a gingerbread ROM ?
i think darky has / is making a GB ROM, all it takes is for you to look in the development section to see what ROMs are out there.
official GB is out now, JVA / B / K all gingerbread.
if you want a custom version, you will have to do some searching, as it really depends on what you want, Im using MIUI, its GB based with excellent Features.
CM7 is smooth and super quick and is also GB but still has bugs.
so depending on what u want, just have a quick search and read the OP !!
Try my ROM, is based on official Gingerbread JVB and it has got a lot of mods and fixes...
A lot of users are happy with it! XD
Sent from my SGS with Simply 3.1 JVB ROM
Go for Simply Honey - the best I tried so far.
Best ROM threads are incredibly stupid and pointless. Try them yourself and see. It's all a matter of personal opinion.
IMO any ROM based off of a given Samsung firmware is going to perform nearly the same, the chefs just do a variety of small changes/optimizations/modifications, they can't really alter what Samsung has provided.
Kernels make a bigger difference than ROMs by far because we can actually modify the source code.. If you don't want to have to decide just flash stock ROM and then flash a custom kernel. I like Hardcore's but he doesn't have a Gingerbread version yet.
I'm on juwe rom and its really nice. I've also heard that simply honey if really good as well.
I'm also bell

ONE VOTE for Juwe long life battery more than 24h with normal user love it
Have been on Darky V10 RC3 for a few weeks and it works great. No bugs, good speed, no lags, etc. Yesterday I flashed Juwe's ROM and so far I'm impressed ... Seems smoother than Darky's ROM ...
SGS I9000
Goatrip 1.7 was the most stable rom I'm currently running.
Power saving, cool UI, mostly important, stable, you know.
I tried CM7, it was quick and beautiful, but many FC
I tried all of them. Crickelo, juwe, andromedia, goatrip, darky.
Now i ues criskelo 35. Not much difference between them. Just themes are different.
And another opinion: DOC's rom. The last Beta (v2.1) is running great.

What rom to pick? (noob alert)

Hi,
My brother would like to use a custom rom. But he isn't technicsl at all, so i'm gonna help him with flashing. But i see too many custom roms available for the galaxy s.
Now i would like to know what custom rom you guys recommend us? I prefer a VERY stable rom which i can flash as one package using odin.
My brother currently is running on official froyo jpy.
Thx for your help ^^

for a very stable custom ROM i suggest you head over to www.romkitchen.org
make your own ROM to your own liking,
all you will need to do prior to this is get 2e / CWM recovery, either through flashing a kernel / CF-Root through ODIN, or apply:update.zip through recovery
EDIT: romkitchen seems to be under maintenance try http://romkitchen.org/m/ instead
Agree rom kitchen but not Gingerbread as its not ready yet .
Stable for me is .
XWJS8 rom with Hardcore kernel .

I would suggest trying the insanity ROM. Very easy to install, quick, and stable.
Have to agree with JS8 + Hardcore kernel built by RomKitchen (see my sig).
I have tried almost every rom out there (including CM7, MIUI, JVB, etc) - they are all quite wonderful and each have their own pros and cons, but since I use my phone a lot (be it work or entertainment), I just need a ROM that has all the necessities (besides the obvious stability, performance, battery life etc) for me like Voodoo Sound, BLN, working 3D, working Navigation app and so on.
try juwi's rom..
it based om gingerbread 2.3.3 ..
perfect..

+1, haven't run into any show stopping bugs yet.
I have also used GoaTrip v1.7 found it very good but issues were BT not working and many times found lag in the system.
Currently on Juwe's v4.1 not such issue's. Works really well and smooth.

I tried every single ROM available in the Development section. Decided to stick with the DOC's ROM. It is the most stable, flexible and versatile.
JS8 + Hardcore Kernel
It has all the necessities including standard features + call recording. Battery life is very good. Works with almost any themes and supports most of the add ons. No FCs. Before, i used to change ROMs everyday which took so much of my time. I think, JS8 is the most stable and efficient ROM at the moment. I would like to try GB, but it is still unstable and lacks many features that I need in my everyday life.
Thanks.
After a bit of help from azzledazzle I went for Darkys rom well fast and stable, being new to Sammy's I had a bit of trouble at first especially when I just come from HTC s .
These phones rock especially with a new rom & kernnel

Try Darky's ROM 9.5 if you want a highly stable, clean and fast Froyo 2.2.1 ROM.
However if you want a Gingerbread 2.3.3 based ROM then you should try Darky's Gingerbread Edition Release Candidate 5 Build 3 over here:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...darky-v10-rc5-3-captivate-users-welcome.2420/
Although I must warn you, you need to be more experienced and be able to solve your own problems if you are trying out the rc version of darkys rom if you overcome any, however many have reported it is highly stable and ready for daily use.
+1 for Juwe's ROM I think its wonderful but sadly it lacks good Hebrew support so I'm currently using PilotX which is also good.
You can always try this flashing guide.
Froyo i suggest darkys rom 9.5
Gingerbread i suggest simplyhoney 3.1.... the best roms... easy flashing steps...

[Q] The Current Fastest ROM For Galaxy S I9000, Juwe Vs Darky?

Hi I'm a new person to these forums and I posted a my question in the general section but I think if I post it here it would be better, I don't know how to switch my post into here.
Question [Q] The Current Fastest ROM For Galaxy S I9000, Juwe Vs Darky?
Hi guys, after buying the Galaxy S GT-I9000 I was soo pissed at the lag of the phone, after trying several combination of custom ROMS + lag fixes, kernels, stock roms etc.... I have found Juwe to be good, but haven't tried Darky's yet.
As of current I think so far Juwe's 5.0 is the best (now mind you I haven't tried Darky's 10.1 yet) and I'm scared to try any other rom since they take soo long to do a proper install (including the battery callibration charging it full, then letting it run down fully, installing all the apps etc...) which can be a headache.
I also found Juwe 5.1 to be a bit slow and sluggish, 5.0 was the way to go.
What do you guys think is faster, Juwe or Darky, or perhaps another ROM altogether, anyone used both of them and found one to be faster then the other (no lag downs - no choppy motion when switching homescreen etc..)?
I have tried both and have actually found that EXTRAordinary Rom with Galaxian Kernal to be lightening quick! Battery seems to last well too.
Roms i have tried are:
Juwe
Darky
Simply Honey
Galnet
Stock (obviously)
and now EXTRAordinary
I love Galnet MIUI, but it is non-stock, so it's prone to battery drain. It's hecka fast though. Though I never tried, CM7 is supposed to be fast. Last time I tried darky's, it wasn't even gingerbread, but it was definately decent back then. Probably faster now.
How do you go about installing the Extraordinary rom with galaxian kernel? Do you first flash stock rom with odin, then flash galaxian kernel with odin, then flash the extraordinary rom using CWM?
I've installed Extraordinary with galxyian kernal, the rom definitely feels spiffy and swift, slight lag here and there (but then again I haven't installed alot of apps yet, Juwe's felt spiffy at first too, although extraordinary has better swiftness when reading/writing to media SD card so far), but the screen vividness/brightness/intensity/colour looks awful, it seems like the resolution has been dumbed down to make the system act quicker.
Still in progress will try MUIU and the rest hopefully.
Pinpongs blockbuster rom is faster than juwe's, as is sams surface rom. Fact.
Haven't tried darky's.
blockbuster 2.4.5
Hi I've tried blockbuster as well, this ROM seems to be in par with Juwe 5.0, maybe slightly better but these two ROM seem very similar in performance (Juwe is a bit more choppy but faster in some ways).
I find Sams surface rom is the fastest. Lagfix optional. Stable and no bloatware. Plus excellent battery life.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i've tried. juwe, gingerreal, MIUI, CM7, darky. The best for JVP (according to me) is Juwe smartv5.0. The best for JPQ (according to me) is darky with dark core v2.9.
Galaxian kernel has problem with the front camera, semarphore kernel has problem with internet browser. Juwe rom base on JVQ and Ginger real base on JVQ has problem with random reboot (according to my last used for those roms). MIUI and CM7 is the best rom for oc and the theme (using platypus kernel and vorbeth), but ver bad in abttery life.. So i'm back with darky JVQ..
T
Hi I've now tried several different Rome INCLUDING:
GINGERREAL latest
MIUI 2.3.4
Extraordinary 3.2
Juwe 5.0, 5.1
Blockbuster latest
Simply honey latesr
Cm7
Darky 10.1
So far miui seems to be the biggest difference in terms of looks compared to stock android (interface looks a lot like ios iPhone 4), when it comes to performance juwe 5.0 and extra ordinary rom seems to be the fastest juwe seems a bit more choppier though but slightly feels faster in many ways and has a more polished look.
At the present I've decided to stick with extraordinary since it seems to be the fastest overall.
The GPS in miui locked faster than the other roms. That's something interesting as the GPS is dismall.
Still not fully satisfied though as every rom seems to have slight lag and choppyness to it. I guess the only way to get over this is to get a better hardware phone such as sgs2. Though 1ghz and 512mb should be more than enough for a blazing phone with some app function. Im still hoping somebody still makes a fast rom out there for this phone. Miui and cm7 project looks promissing and hopefully I'm the future they'll come up with something faster.
Still any other rom's, other methods of installation (combo of kernel + rom) that you guys suggest?

Ive tried lots of them, have to say that EDB 1.3 with galaxian kernel is good all around.Very good battery life.
Forget all that is cm,darky etc..
How did you go about installing the ROM with galaxien kernel?, because EDB 1.3 Darky 2.8 Kernel
I tried edb and far estraordinary rom with galixien kernel is the fastest.

lets just say that im not that fond of darky thingys.
I have tried Tiramisu Evo 6.5 Juwe's Smart Edition 5.2 and EXTRAordinary JVQ 2.3.4
Currently sticking to EXTRAordinary with Galaxian 1.7 although GPS is useless....
Currently on Insanity ROM and it is very fast for me. I like the fact that he has stripped everything out of the ROM and you install what you like GApps, Google Maps, even the syncing is removed but obviously you need to install them to get syncing with google. Only been using it for a few weeks and so far very good. No lag for me.
Darky rom (JVP or JVQ) with dark core kernel is fastest
Try GingerCriskeloV77 mate, I hopped from one ROM to another and stopped at this one. This is based on semaphore kernal. Had bluetooth issue but resolved with new semaphore kernal 1.3.2 Cheers
Hi now I've tried Juwe Smart Ed 5.2, and its a real improvement from 5.1,I think it is the most polished and well round rom right now.
Running latest Juwe's (5.2) with latest release Galaxian EE 2.2, only drama I get sometimes is stock Gallery losing it's way to files, other than that, it's going well. I will say Juwe's has the best stock theme, the Ginger keyboard and stock dialer are the best out of any ROM I've had. I also agree with those in this thread, Darky seems to have lost his touch with Ginger...

[Q] New Firmware, ROM?

Hi...
I've only made a couple posts on the forum...
Updated my phone a while ago using the xda developers and had great success but reading through the lastest posts, im a bit confused and lost as to the best available updates...
I'm currently running an update from keis...
Firmware 2.3.3
Baseband I9000XXJVO
kernel 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVO-CL82937
build Gingerbread.XXJVO
My main desires would be a new rom with root, a lagfix (there are so many?) and a battery lifes mod of some sort (never used these...)...
Has anyone got any advise / recomdendations??
I'm a bit of a lamen, and no programmer, but I'm confident to flash and use odin etc....
Thanks in advance
i recommend juwe's smart edition 5.3, it has ram script, excellent battery life. it is a complete rom. if you have any other questions post them on my thread "Ask me anything, i have the answer" ,it should among the top
Jetpack is new, clean, professional, fast, smooth and battery efficient so if you want try it!
Sent from my sgs
kernel: galaxian

Darky's 10.2 extreme edition with darkcore kernel and voodoo sound and lag fix. Full flash tutorial is on the darky thread, fast stable and decent battery life. Everybody had their own personal favourites, read up on the roms and pick what suits you best. This is on a gb 2.3.4 base
You can use Martux rom.
Its a good one for starters. Download base JVR from here - Matroux Rom Flash it via Odin. Clear instructions are given there. Then flash any JVR kernel preferably semaphore 1.5 via odin. Then copy Martux Rom to ur sd card and flash via CWM.
It's only about what you prefer.
Myself am flashing a new ROM each day just to try them out.
I think I'll keep Hybrid.
