Gmail crashed, lost how to replace - Nook Color General

Gmail started crashing - on rooted 1.1 and 1.1 OC
well something strange happened this week - it started off with gmail occasionally crashing to home whenever i refresh/synch it -ignored it, the yesterday i ran titanium backup and wiped data for the gmail app, gmail seemed to work, no crashing. then today when i tried to refresh, nada it just went back to home. wiping data from Titanium backup did not seem to work.
so i tried to reinstall the gmail app - kept getting a cannot parse error, tried to install it via root explorer, same thing happened then finally tried adb - again same result. But now my gmail app is missing - no icons although the file is still in the system/app directory.
so i decided to restore backup of which i was sure i had a least 3 restore points in my SD card via CWR but lo an behold they are no longer there - i checked with file explorer in he directory and all i can see are a bunch of what appears to be other file fragments
Any ideas?
luckily the email app that came with NC still works, just that i lost gmail

You'll have to clear application data for gmail to have it working again
You can either do this the simple way(via Titanium Backup), or clear it completely through shell(which I won't list unless you have problems with TiBu).
Via Titanium Backup:
Second tab on top, go down to Gmail, press it, "wipe data", then attempt to access Gmail again.
Otherwise, you can back up the app, uninstall it, then restore it, and it'll work fine after that.

Market Not Working after Revert from FroYo

I flashed on Paul's FroYo the other day and decided I didn't want the headache of app instability until later. But now after nandroid restoring my 5.0.6 backup, I can no longer download anything from the market. I read posts where people said to clear data from apps such as download manager, google apps, etc but when i go to my manage applications in settings I cannot see these apps, my guess is theyre hidden in CM. Any suggestions?
have you gone to settings (when in manage applications) and changed the filter to all apps?
I've got the same issue.
Decided to wipe, install Cyan 5.0.6 then revert to my 5.0.6. Nandroid.
Everything is fine until I try to download TI Backup from the market.
Anything I try and download just hangs at 'downloading'....
I've wiped caches, cleared data, replaced my XML file....etc
Grrrrrrr, why does nothing work properly.
i went back to 5.0.6 to do what you said, every time ive gone back with my nandroid back up its been fine, but this time the market app is corrupt for some reason. the vending.apk is in /system/app but the market icon isnt in the launcher and the shortcut on my home screen says app not installed when i use it. doing a factory reset works but i want that to be a last resort as i would like to preserve my settings/messages. ive tried replacing the vending.apk with different ones but it still won't install. any ideas?
I followed the steps here and it fixed the issue for me. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6575904

[Q] can't restore contact from titanium backup

HI there
i recently restored my phone after flashing a different rom. everything went well and i restored almost everything using titanium backup. i clicked for "install missing apps and data" but unfortunately i could not restore my phone contacts. my contacts are also not synced with gmail. please help?
Did you click on the button in the top middle to bring up the list of programs, and restore contacts then reboot?(assuming you backed it up of course). Cause all it sounds like you did was that batch restore of MISSING apps. The contacts.apk was included so it didn't get restored.
i'm curious about this too. I dont need to restore my contacts but I've installed custom roms for a few friends who didnt have their contacts sync'd with gmail and after restoring what I thought was the contacts, it didnt actually restore.
so I've had this problem before, too. I'm curious to hear from someone who successfully restored phone contacts from TiBu.
Always sync your contacts with Google
I never used TiBu for contacts or calendar entries.

Not sure if this thread is dead or not but I just flashed my brother's phone and used TiBu to restore missing apps + data. For contacts I tried restoring [Contacts/Calls] Storage 2.2, rebooted and still nothing. I dont know what else can I do now. Is there any way I can pull the information out manually from TiBu backup files? I opened com.android.providers.contacts-20110625-144656.tar.gz and noticed the raw data is in the files. Any ideas would be helpful....
Thanks!

Did he sync contacts with his Google account? If so sign into Gmail from the phone and sync. I use the Backup with Gmail from the market to backup calls and texts too. All of my call history, contacts, and texts are synching with my Gmail, works great.

Restart the phone after restoring apps and system data.
When it comes to backing up my contact list I'm Old School. I still do it the same way I did on my Palm OS device. Export to a vCard file (*.vcf). Since android still has that feature I occasionally make a backup of my contacts as a *.vcf and copy it to my SD card, PC or dropbox. However, after reading this post I gave it a try and successfully restored my contacts, txt messages, call logs etc with TiBu. After a restore (I was able to confirm that the 'Restore missing apps + all system data' batch restore will restore your contacts etc. However they don't show in your contact list after a restore. You can try to force close the Contacts and Contact storage from the 'Manage Applications' -> 'Running' screen, and when you restart your contacts after that they should appear. However tried and true method is the simplest.
=> Do a Re-boot.
I tried it successfully four times and doing a restart of the phone worked the best, smoothest and easiest. Then all my contacts were successfully restored.
I performed this on a I897 running FireFly 3.0.2.2 (Froyo based ROM) I used the latest version of TiBu 3.9.0.1 free version and made sure that busybox was updated to 1.18.4
If you're worried about TiBu not working, exporting your contacts to a *.vcf file does give you a nice file that you can then import natively into Android and most other mobile OS. (I've personally verified that *.vcf works on Pantech and Lg messaging phones, Palm OS, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Thunderbird, Outlook)

Yea, don't use TiBU to restore any system apps like contacts or messaging ESPECIALLY when changing roms/android os versions.
I would recommend backing up ur contacts to your google account. Also, see if u can find a .vcf file in your TiBU backup

[Fixed] Screwed up motorola.blur.providers.contacts

Tried to view one of my contacts and got a FC on Contacts Storage (motorola.blur.providers.contacts). Do not know whether this has ever worked. Have had this Bionic for a couple days and froze a bunch of Motorola ****. The list isn't very long and I can provide that if necessary, but I'm just assuming this is what has caused my Contacts issue.
On to the actual issue, I uninstalled Contacts Storage (using Titanium Backup) and was going to reinstall it from the backup, but TB just hangs.
Tried all three different "App Processing modes" in TB and it hangs on restore regardless of this setting.
Extracted the apk out of Titanium Backup folder and tried to run it manually and it won't go (using ES File Explorer, mounted System as R/W).
Tried moving it to /system/app/ and running it (still mounted R/W) and it fails.
Will restoring ONLY "System" fix my problem and not delete all my other data that I've been busy setting up? Is there even a way to restore only System, using that FXZ?
If I can just chill and not worry about it until they come out with Clockworkmod Recovery, how do I make a flashable zip with just Contacts Storage in it?
Edit: Tried installing with adb and it fails with Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT]. I see other apps in the /system/app folder have .odex files with them. Am I just missing this one for the contacts (did it get removed by TB?)?
Edit: Got the .odex file from here and it still fails trying to install via Root Explorer.
Edit: Installation via adb with NO switches fails with Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_SHARED_USER_INCOMPATIBLE]
Installation via adb with /l switch to Forward Lock it fails with Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE]
That Forward Lock one was a little past my point of not knowing what the hell I'm doing, so I will just chill and wait for a response. Thanks!
Edit: FXZ'd back to stock, installed CWM Recovery, backed up, restored Data only from the damaged instance via CWM Recovery, wiped cache. Everything is great and I didn't lose any data! Just had to get a fresh /system/ in there...

gmail not pushing

I have no idea what's happened. I reflashed a mod I was using (maximus 12.1) and then restored everything with titanium. Everything else is working fine but the only way for me to see my new emails is if I open up the app and pull down to refresh :/ any suggestions?? I even deleted gmail logged out of Google on my phone and reinstalled gmail app.

You need to move the app from /data/app to /system/app, as it's a system app, and not 3rd party. Just re-download the app, then move it from /data/app to /system/app. You can use root explorer or es file explorer to move it. Then reboot the phone, and it should work.

Titanium Backup wont install. Error in application installation /code 504

I was running stock lollipop 5.0.1 on my note 4. I rooted my phone and supersu was installed during the process. I then installed Titanium backup and deleted all unwanted bloatware. Then i decided i wanted to unroot my phone( so i could be able to do normal software updates / and run stock rom with no bloatware). To flash back to stock i flashed N910TUVU1COD6_N910TTMB1COD6_N910TUVU1COD6 via odin. This however reinstalled all system bloatware that i removed with titanium backup. SO THEN, i re- rooted, re-installed titanium backup & re-deleted system bloatware, then went to supersu, and selected UNROOT from the apps options. This closed the app and restarted my phone. When it booted back up i went to the market to reinstall titanium backup i get this messege " Unknown error code during application install:-504"
My phone is currently stock rooted, with supersu installed, awaiting the fix so that i can install titanium backup.
PLEASE HELP; I am trying to install a custom rom, and need my apps backed up via titanium backup!!

Try clearing data from the play store app and Google play services then redownload ttb. If that doesn't work you could try wiping dalvik and cache in recovery but it'll take 20 minutes for your phone to boot after doing that and your phone will get hot in the process!
Thank you. I have done that about 3 times with no success. Even unrooted and re rooted. I'm really trying to avoid having to factory reset. And even if do, I don't know if it will fix what this problem is.
Sorry buddy. Start over. Odin to stock + factory reset.
You can then run stock rooted without the bloat.
Or custom rommed up.
We probably aren't getting any important updates soon.
My error 504 Fix - Sprint LG G4
Because I went through hell trying to fix this error while reinstalling Titanium Backup *Root* on my once rooted, then unrooted, then rerooted Sprint LG G4, I will explain what finally worked for me.
First off, the app was installed and working fine and was used to backup my entire phone to the TB cloud. So, when I rerooted my phone and expected to reinstall TB and then go get my stuff, so as to basically restore the phone to the way it was before unrooting, I was pissed that I kept getting that stupid error code. I tried all the suggestions for fixing; delete the cache & data for Google Play Store & Google Services Framework, remove gmail account and reboot, and delete data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup file. Nothing, by itself, worked. So here's what I did:
1. I downloaded a file managing app for root. I used File Explorer (for root).
2. Using File Explorer, I found the data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup file and deleted it.
3. I deleted the cache & data for Google Play & Google Services Framework.
4. I removed my Gmail account and rebooted the phone.
5. I opened Google Play Store. At this point the app will ask for your account info and when done, your Gmail account will be back.
6. I located the Titanium Backup *Root* app and installed it. It's important to note that if you have the Pro version of TB, I found you should install the free version 1st, then install the Pro version after that.
Presto! No Error Code 504! I had TB back on my phone, once again!!!
Hope this helps anyone having this same issue. I see no reason why this shouldn't work on any phone, but I can't say for sure.

I tried but it didn't work
I even tried to install the Titanium.apk directly ( copied from another phone) but I am receiving the error message:
application not installed.
Any help please?
Daniel
That's all that I did. Recently I had that problem once again. And it was fixed... Forgot the steps to get there. But you may try using cleaner apps or SDmaid to get rid of the corpses.
I just had the same problem and step two
2. Using File Explorer, I found the data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup file and deleted it.
did it for me.
Chris
This worked for me on the first attempt (just deleting the com.kerimidas folder listed above) .....and NOTHING EVER WORKS FOR ME ON THE FIRST TRY!!!
THX!!!
I also had the same problem, did everything not helped.
finally downloaded the titanium .apk file from internet and its now working fine!
