ES file explorer

I am using this application and i updated it and now i can't open my computer drive in it it says
path doesn't exist
anyone knows how to share the pc through this application ??

I forgot how I eventually got it working, but I do remember jumping from different SDKs really caused problems for the various remote sharing/samba apps. I finally gave up trying since I was bouncing back and forth from different builds that were based on different SDKs.
My suggestion, download Filezilla FTP Server (assuming you have a Windows PC). That will allow you to run an FTP server on your home computer/laptop/network. Install it. Then go to dyndns.org and sign up for a free account. THey will give you a free domain name (actually a subdomain, but that's fine). While at dyndns.org, make sure you get their DNS update program (it's free). It will regularly update your IP address and link it with your free domain name. Then from the market, get AndFTP. You'll then be able to FTP to your own computer, anytime and anywhere (as long as you're computer is on and awake). You won't have to have a wifi connection, it can be done anywhere you have a data connection on your phone. You won't have to be on your own network. It's all super easy to do, and you won't be bugged by these nagging problems when bouncing from different roms.

File Sync Software

Hi,
I'm looking for software to sync folders from my PC to my Xoom. I just need to sync folders, not music or movies and don't need or want to use a service with online storage.
Best would be to have wifi rather than usb. Can anyone recommend a program?

Have you thought about using dropbox?

Dropbox would be my advice also
I currently use dropbox on my phone and when I get a xoom next month I'll be using that also.
Also evernote for your documents.
I also use keepass for my passwords and store the password file in a private folder on dropbox so I can access my passwords from any location.

I don’t often promote apps; but this one seems to have received little attention and I think it could benefit a lot of Xoom’ers…
I found a terrific app that allows me to sync the Xoom with my PC. Websharing File/Media Sync ($2.99 in the Market) is incredible. It allows you to establish your Xoom (or any other Android Device) as a file/media server on your wireless network. You can then use WebDAV on your XP, Vista, Mac, Ubuntu, etc. to connect your Xoom to your PC's file system. You can access your Xoom from your PC's browser. The browser interface is really cool with different interfaces for files, photos, music playback and video playback. You can also access the Xoom through File Explorer as a web share by Mapping a Network Drive.
I use Goodsync ($29.95) on my PC (supports WebDAV) to provide sync functionality. I set up two sync jobs. One syncs my documents folders and the other syncs the Xooms specific folders to create a full data backup on my PC. Both Websharing and Goodsync are "industrial strength" so you don't have to worry about FC's or corrupted data. The solution is perfect for my needs. I now have every work and personal document fully synchronized between my OG Droid, Xoom and XP Laptop. I also have the assurance that my Xoom's data is backed up in case I need to restore.

I've been thinking of trying Syncness (https://market.android.com/details?id=clay.world.syncness). I emailed the developer to find out if it was automated or not and got an almost immediate response (no, it's not automated yet -- all manually initiated at this point). It's not free but it's only about $2.
EDIT: It's a direct sync, not going through any cloud service.

synctoy 2 or double twist with airsync (but it sounds like you dont want to sync media, but actually folders.

Try GammaSync
For PC-to-Android folder synchronization (only one-way at the moment) I developed a free app which does not require external cloud storage services (like Dropbox or SugarSync). It's called GammaSync, and it's available on the Play Store. Maybe you'll find it useful

Windows Home Server connector? (or network browser?)

Hey has anyone found a known working set of software to connect to a WHS box? I've got a media server and I'd like to stream from it to my tablet when I'm around the house.

I've been able to successfully use ES File Explorer to view my network shared folder containing media files. The LAN tab allows you to specify the IP address and folder path of your shared folder.
I am sharing files from a machine running Vista Ultimate, but it should work with any Windows shared folder. I found it necessary to open up the following ports in my Windows firewall though:
137 - TCP Netbios name service
138 - TCP Netbios datagram service
139 - TCP Netbios session service
445 - TCP Active directory
Once I created a connection in ES File Explorer, I can easily navigate to my shared folder and access files. However, when I view .AVI files, they play for about 5 seconds, then I get a prompt stating that the media type cannot be streamed and it begins the process of transferring he file onto the gTablet.

Look at CIFS Manager in the market. Note you will need a kernel that supports CIFS (not sure if the stock ROM and/or TNTL do.)
Once you properly configure your CIFS mount, You can browse the folder with any file manager, play media, etc.
I have a Windows 2008 server housing all of my media. File shares to my G-Tab through CIFS just fine.

this is the method I use.. just note that you'll likely need to mount by ip, not computer name.

May largely depend on how your network is setup. Since I have Windows Server, It's also my DNS server for the home/office. Thus, name lookups work well for me.
I suspect most people are using their ISP's DNS, or other public DNS that of course won't know the names on the local network.

I'm primarily concerned with getting to stuff off my internal network. I didn't even look at the filexplorer network tab
I'll play with it some tonight and see what I can figure out.

TnTL works fine.
If you're using a hardware firewall to both serve out DHCP addresses and proxy DNS, they often are setup so that a DNS request for the name associated with one of the DHCP leases is returned by the proxy.
I'd be wary of opening up those ports on the internet, BTW

I've been setting up "Subsonic" on my WHS box to use. I have the software loaded and setup on the server at this point, plus one of the PC's on my network. Works fine. Today will be testing the Android app on my G Tablet to see how that goes.

Subsonic streams audio + builds playlists perfectly via Gtablet, will need to work on video...

I have been using Tversity on the server and uPnPlay on the Gtab. Works pretty good, but wanted to try out subsonic though.

+2 Subsonic is a great program. Very well done on the Android. I use it locally and on the road.

[Q] Nook to Mac/PC via wireless??

I don't know if this is a noobie question or not. And search wasn't very helpful.
Is there a way (or an app) to connect my NC to either my Mac Mini (or my PC) via my home wireless network (not USB) in order to transfer files back and forth??? .... hopefully a way to move files locally without using the Internet (i.e. dropbox or similar)
I'm running full CM7 (EMMC) on the NC and Snow Leopard on my Mini.
And since I'm helping other people with their NC's, does anyone know how to do this on a stock NC????

Not sure if this works for the Nook but try Samba Fileshare app from the Market. Allows you to connect via regular I.p. address. I use this with my phone.

Use ES File Explorer app. This allows you to see and manage all the files on your Nook, and on a networked computer and do ftp transfers as well. Lots of functionality apart from basic file transfers, stable and free.

Yes there is an app call WiFi file explorer it gives an ip address to enter in the browser and then you can send or download files. it works very well I use it in the evo 4G and nook color.

I use ES File Explorer if I am working on the NC but if I am working on the computer I start Samba Filesharring on the NC and do all the manipulation on the computer. It is easier that way since I can see all the thumbnails of pictures so I can select them nd just drag and drop.

+1 for Samba. The SD card just appears as a share on your Windows network and if you check the box to remember your credentials you just have to remember to wake the NC up before you try to connect to it.

Try Dropbox. Easy setup and works a treat.

Backing up now without SD

HI All,
I'm not a huge fan of the public cloud based services. I would prefer not to have all my information spread across multiple public cloud providers. Now without the convenience of having a separate SD card, I want to look into some type of regular backup routine (automated) to copy the contents of my s6 edge to my network storage. Can anyone share any scripts or processes they might have come across or use to perform backups of this type?
I am not sure of any scheduled task can execute a simple batch or copy script from the phone, or from the server / network side to "pull" the data if the phone is available on the LAN? Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks.

It's mainly used to schedule syncs between phone and cloud services, but I think you can sync between network folders, and there might be an ftp option as well. So you might be able to schedule it to sync some folders on your phone to network storage folders every night (when you're home and on the same local network). ES file Explorer is another option, not sure of the scheduling features on it, so it might only work manually.
But those 2 apps are definitely worth looking into. I use folder sync and love it, I use it with a cloud service though.

So I grabbed folder sync and installed it. It's exactly what I am looking for. It does CIFS & SMB shares so I can map to my network shares. Thanks for the suggestion. I like having all my information on my own personal servers rather than spread over public cloud providers.
