[Q] Multimedia Sending Issues - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First I apologize if this has been asked already.
I have recently installed froyo 2.2 with cognition 3.0.4. And ever since I did this I no longer can send photos or videos to anyone. Is there a setting that I might be missing, or maybe an app that might help me in this situation?
Thanks,
Jerry F.

Have you first tried the basics? ex. Flashing back to stock with odin then reinstalling Cog iv never had that kind of issue with a Design Gears rom they have always been quality. it may just be an issue related to that.

[Q] SMS order - Cognition Beta7 vs Shep's ROM

Since i couldn't find any similar thread, here is my problem:
I used every Cognition ROM, since SRE 1.3.1c to Beta7, but always noticed that the SMS order was wrong.
I'd a 5-6 minutes difference between sent and received sms. So, my sent messages were located in the bottom, and the received in the top, making them difficult to read..
Now, i'm using Shep's ROM with xcaliburinhand Kernel, and i noticed that my SMS are place in order now! No timming issue!
But.. With Cognition Beta7 my battery lasted 25-40 hours!!
And, with Shep's ROM, only last 10!
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
i can't even send a sms/mms at all at cog 2.2 beta7....
Juat waiting beta8
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I am not sure What is going on with both of your issues, I have been using Cog on and off sense SRE started and have never had those issues, SMS ordering was never an issue and have not had trouble sending out mms. Are you guys useing TBU to restore settings?
Same here. I am on cog6 with no sms or mms issues.
My procedure is always the same:
- Stock with odin JF6
- Root
- Flash any ROM with Clockwork Recovery Mode
I never used any Backup (Except Google's contacts, GMail and Calendar). I never trusted any settings backup..
I'll try Cog B7 with xcaliburinhand's kernel, and others combinations..
But i really want to know if it's a Modem, Kernel or ROM issue, 'cause if it's a Modem fw issue, i could flash anything, and then, flash the Working (no issue) modem over.. Just to be prepared..
Thanks!
I think it's an issue with the Carrier timestamps. If you install Handcent and look at your messages, you'll see they will be put in order. I had the same thing happen to me a day or so after I installed 2.2, but never had it happen on 2.1

I noticed that there is one diff in how we flash a new rom
Odin one click
Master clear with odin one click
Root
Rom manager flash
you might want to back up with Titanium back up you user apps as the master clear will wipe the device. might be something left over from a stock flash that may mess you up. but that is just my 2 cents

Yep, it's a Carrier issue (and it get worst sending SMS between different carriers!) But, i had this issue in Stock Eclair, SRE Eclair, Cog Eclair and Cog Froyo.. It only gets fixed with Shep's ROM, that's the weird thing

Yes, i do the Master Clear too.. Also Dalvik, Cache, Battery and Data wipe from Clockwork..
Well.. Testing, after Back to Stock JF6, Master Clear, Data, Battery, Dalvik and Cache Wipe:
- Cognition 2.2 Beta7 > SMS timming issue
- Cognition 2.2 Beta7 + xcaliburinhand's Reoriented 2.0.1 Kernel > SMS timming issue
- Cognition 2.2 Beta7 + xcaliburinhand's Reoriented 2.0.1 Kernel + JH2 Modem > SMS timming issue
- Shep's Stock ROM + xcaliburinhand's Reoriented 2.0.1 Kernel > SMS timmng fixed
So, the only thing that fix this problem is the Shep's Stock ROM..

That's the reason I noticed it. I was texting my ex girlfriend who uses Sprint, my cousin on Verizon, one of my girl friends on T-Mobile, and my best friend on AT&T. Everyone was messed up except my best friend. Or maybe its cause the other three are female. Who knows. I'd place a wager on the Carriers just to be safe and not get yelled at. :-D

Hmm..
I had the MMS/SMS timing bug with Cog's 2.1.6 build.
I'm on Cog's 2.2.6 Froyo and haven't experienced any issues.
And my txts are all over the place... my brother who is on Sprint, a buddy in town on T-Mobile, and my sister-in-law who is on Verizon on a Kansas phone # (and I'm in Colorado).
I dunno.. seems to be pretty random.
Last load was Odin back to stock.
Then used ROM Manager to update to Cog's 2.2 build.

Force close on bootup, and on all 3rd party apps

Hi all,
my phone just shat itself today.
Running cognition 2.3b6
Symptoms:
Yesterday, started doing a few reboots by itself (i was switching landscape and back while going to apps/settings, things started lagging and then u'd see the cognition bootup screen).. only happened twice. first times in 4 months of use.
This morning, it did the same thing and reset. so i pulled the battery, and thought id give it a proper reset.
On bootup i saw some things crash (clock/finance/reader) etc.. i thought yeh ok. whatever.. and then the market suddenly updated all these apps (maps/gmail/voice search etc..) all of which should've been up to date.
thought that was wierd, android market went back to old non-green market. and now most 3rd party apps crash when i open them. i.e. astrid/astro/google reader/ any game
things like maps/gmail/browser etc.. work fine.. i notice my ram is up at 230mb/304mb is this causing the crashing?
So i've rebooted a few times and still the same issue (although market has gone back to green market)
anyone seen something similar? i really dont want to reinstall as this rom has been great till this point.. sigh... really reminds me of windows back in the older days.
thanks in advance for the help.
What kernel are you using?
I think you are going to have to flash stock master clear, start over
kernal? to be honest, no idea.. i just flashed from jh7 back to stock (ji6 i think) to 2.3b6
kernal looks to be
2.6.32.9

Jf6 ji6 is leaked froyo
Pm me if you need help
yeh sorry JF6, that odin guy is what i use every time..
i'm just wondering what could've caused it? how can a crash totally disable nearly everything..
i'll reflash using the odin3 back to stock then back to 2.3b8 i guess now.. but if anyone knows how to save it please let me know.
Do you know what lash fix you are running?
Sound like data corruption but it had never happened to me
lash fix?
last fix?
what do you mean by that?

Lag Fix is what he ment. If i remember right the older vodoo lag fixes that were used in the older kernel versions had stability problems that have been fixed in the newer versions.
oh i c.. its the voodoo from 2.3b6..
i've just privacy-> factory wiped my phone. and that seems to have fixed it..
tho i might as well upgrade to 2.3b8 to see if it helps

[Q] Accidentally downgraded to Eclair, want Froyo

Hey,
So this morning I was looking for a way to get my Samsung Vibrant's GPS to work properly, so I searched and found multiple references to the JI6 firmware version.
After following the instructions and completing the install, I rebooted my phone and saw that I actually DOWNGRADED to Eclair.
I really would like to get Froyo (I had 2.2, but 2.2.1 is fine too) back on my phone, nothing fancy, just the stock version for my phone. I have searched the web and this forum and couldn't find anything referencing upgrading the SGH-T959, only the i9000 and Captivate.
I have tried a reset and I'm still on Eclair. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Gavi
**EDIT**
I was able to upgrade after multiple tries with Kies Mini, I kept on getting fail messages.
Thanks anyways.
To Mod: I was looking for a way to delete post, feel free to do so.

[Q] i9000 is buggy / would custom rom fix this / what rom

So I hate my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 but only because it doesn't work. IF it was working I would love it a lot. The phone is rooted and I am running Vodafone's standard version of Froyo if such a thing even exists (no custom rom).
Now I have read about Odin and different firmwares but I am still VERY lost. I don't even know if any custom firmware would do me any good.
So here are my problems:
My Galaxy S is laggy as hell even tough I have installed lag fix.
GPS doesn't work AT ALL. I have installed pretty much every silly GPS app I could find on forums and in the market. I also entered a bunch of silly numbers yet the GPS is wrong by like 500 metres. Sometimes it gets VERY accurate if I run GPS Aids but google map instantly "fixes" it in just 1 second and screws up badly again >:C
If I take pictures with the front camera they will get displayed once I reboot the phone
and so on. it's completly buggered and I don't know why.
------------
So will a custom rom fix this kind of stuff? will i get working gps with a custom rom or are those gps apps supposed to fix my GPS which they don't at all?
Do custom roms force a loader on me? I like TouchWiz.
Can I still use Gmail and other google apps with a custom rom?
Seriously I am pretty confused and don't know what to do since September 2010 but I never brought up the curage to ask / thought I might figure it out by studying forums but I am still terribly lost.
If your phone is playing up that much I'd think a custom or different stock rom would be the your best bet. I remember when I got my phone it was horrible in terms of stability and lag etc etc, since I've started flashing different roms I haven't looked back, of course you lose your warranty though. I think most of your problems are probably software related, though they could be hardware(gps /camera). To pick a rom your either looking at Froyo or Gingerbread, then do you want a stock(many newer stock Samsung roms are fairly good in stability and performance) or custom(modified stock roms), then you can go picking from there. Read up lots before you flash on what things are(Kernels, modems, clockworkmod, download mode, odin etc) and then if you are confident go for it. Don't hesitate to ask anything
Reading and learning are the key, as stated, my recommendation is to explore the ezbase roms and easy Odin as a great and easy start to rom flashing, and dont be afraid to ask,

thanks a lot for the help.
If I set my phone back to factory reset will it jump back to 2.1 - the OS the phone came with or will it STAY at 2.2?
to be honest I personally believe the rom won't get touched if you do a factory reset so I will be stuck at 2.2. i have called samsung and they said it would jump back to 2.1. now i don't believe a single word samsung says.
IF I can always go back to 2.1 I could try Samsung's 2.3 - see if that does me any good and if that doesn't work I will jump back to 2.1 and root it again and use a custom ROM. I have already rooted it and used a one click solution which exists for 2.1 and 2.2 (i forgot the name of it but it was some orange icon with some arrow in it).

2.2 or whatever the current rom is .
suggest one update to Froyo 2.2.1 its the best . 2.1 is very laggy
no custom rom can fix a broken gps if it is broken
remove lagfix before flashing any rom .
Possible best fix would be to wipe phone via factory reset losing all data
Via Odin install Froyo 2.2.1 with pit 512 and repartition checked .
GPS hardware thread fix may help .

so
1) the samsung dude told sh*t when he said it would jump to the firmware the phone came with (just as i had assumed)
2) froyo 2.2.1 is more stable and better than any build of gingerbread? i thought gingerbread was a great battery saver and overall really nice
3) so with the gps problems i have stated it sounds more like broken hardware instead of software? i could still give the phone back but from everything i have read on the net GPS is just buggered on the galaxy s.
like i have said with GPS aids it will work fine (gps aids will give me a PERFECT location) but once I jump to google maps - google maps will automatically "correct" the positing which will be way off.
4) sorry for that stupid question but i don't really understand "Via Odin install Froyo 2.2.1 with pit 512 and repartition checked". What exactly is "pit 512" and what does "repartition checked" mean?
sorry to ask
Go to ezbase thread and there you will get instructions with screenshots of how to use it, and all the stuff you need to download, and you can then flash either a slim rooted 2.2.1 or 2.3.3.

Updating from Eclair JM6 to Latest Gingerbread?

Hey Guys,
Been quite a while since I last posted here, and I've not kept up with updating my phone. I know, I know, I should have carried on updating the firmware, but Eclair was fine for me at the time. Now, however, I want to update to Gingerbread. I've recently bought a Galaxy Tab and am amazed at the difference between Eclair and Gingerbread, plus my SGS is slowing right down for some reason. The other reason I want to upgrade is because my son's just got his SGS2 and I am jealous! So here's the thing...I've lost all confidence in my ability to flash my phone. I would assume I have to flash it up to Froyo before jumping to Gingerbread. I've completely forgotten how to do any of this and am now worried that I'll brick my phone. So, what I'm asking you guys for is a rough guide on how to get from Eclair to Gingerbread in easy steps.
My phone's rooted and running XWJM6 (baseband XXJM3). It's also got Ryan's One Click Lag fix installed.
Please help!
Anyone? My phone's force closing on loads of apps now, too, so really need to do something.
No-one want to help a damsel in distress? My phone's really running like a bag of the proverbial now...and I can't get viber to work properly on it.
Sorted it myself in the end.......was really nervous, as I've not flashed firmware via odin in over a year (my Tab updated via Kies). After jumping to Froyo XXJPU, I jumped to Gingerbread XXJVS and all seems fine. Once I'd flashed Froyo, it all came flooding back to me and I was well happy. What a difference!
Result.
