Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S i9000 Android 2.2.1 with the following ROM versions:
PDA: XWJS5
PHONE: XXJPP
CSC: XXJP9
The problem is, while using GPRS, I am unable to receive any calls/SMS. I know that 3G networks fix this problem, but I'm in an area where I only have EDGE.
I was previously using the Nokia 5230 and never had this problem with it. Any tips? Maybe a different Modem/Phone ROM version that can fix this?
Any help would be great, even if just to tell me that there's no way around this!
Thanks,
JB
No one? Help please!
i have the same problem with my sgs
im on 2.2
i cant recive voice call but i recive sms while i connected to gprs
have you guys tried speaking with your operator about this ?
I remember there used to be a setting on my last nokia symbian phone whether to prioritize voice over data, didn't see the same on i9003 yet.

Hi there folks. I got a Bell Samsung Galaxy i9000M about a month ago or so. Initially, I was very disappointed that Android 2.2 wasn't available. After some digging through these forums, I discovered Doc's Froyo ROM thread and read that some people on Bell had used this successfully. I followed the instructions from his thread (am currently uisng Doc's Froyo v7.6.2 JPO, and my phone is rooted as well). Ever since I changed firmware to Doc's v7.6.2 Froyo versus the original Bell UGJH2 (i believe that's what it was called) Android 2.1, my phone auto rejects all incoming calls.
What happens is that any time someone calls my phone by calling my phone #, my phone rings once, then the call is rejected (the phone I call from says it got rejected), and on my Galaxy S, I lose network signal completely (3G/phone signal) for a few seconds when this happens.
Is this a known issue with the ROM I am using.. do I have some sort of option turned on that I shouldn't? I need some help here. Is this something my phone carrier (Bell) is doing cause I hacked the phone?
To clarify, I am perfectly able to make outgoing calls to phone numbers, and I am able to browse internet with 3G/HSPA just fine using Bell's network. Before I did the upgrade to this Froyo ROM, I was not experiencing this issue. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction, I really need to get this fixed because right now, no one can call me.
Really, no replies? There's no one else that has had this issue? I want to flash my phone to the new-er Froyo JPK3 that's supposed to be for Bell.. anyone have a clue whether that should fix it? What about just doing a factory reset?
i have the same problem, different carrier though, german o2
i think it might be cuz of a wrong CSC
i reflash now and report back
My initial guess was that my ROM is not suited for my phone/carrier.. but since I was able to make outgoing calls, use 3G and send/receive texts, I dismissed that idea. Especially since there were other people using Doc's v7.6.2 on Bell with supposedly success results.
So what I did was I went into Clockwork Recovery Mode, and did a factory reset. Now my phone works fine. Beats me what the problem was. Must've been some app I installed I guess.
i had the same problem. i did what you did. factory reset. then used titanium backup to restore all my apps and system settings. thank God for titanium backup lol.
I happens to me too from the 1st time i flash my phone to froyo.. u need to reinstall the correct csc. After a clean flash insert your sim card then dial *#272*IMEI No.# then choose the right csc of your phone. It will make a factory reset after the installation of new csc.
Need urgent help. When ever i try making calls or receive calls the other person gets a lot of noise from my side . Its very annoyoing. i have tried updating the firmware and os . No luck
Galaxy S (orginal tmobile UK) on xxjpy 2.2.1
Try setting network mode to AUTO. Had the same problem.
Ok im running symply galaxy s II rom but my problem is that I cant receive calls, i can call people but when they call me i cant answer, and I lost the signal for a moment and them it comes back! what i have to do? I already try different modems...
Since many users of Samsung Galaxy S Plus had similar problems i decided to open a new topic.
Short description:
Sometimes when i try to send an sms which has more than 160 characters i receive a notification with "Message not send".
The problem seems to be only when Network Mode is set on WCDMA (or Auto).
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9001XXKF8
Network: Orange Romania
Solutions
1) Update to Android 2.3.5+
or
2) Set Network Mode GSM
I have no idea why that would happen, I am starting to believe that Samsung has a poor radio in the i9001. Can you confirm the same in other messaging apps?
I would love to try but I have no SMSs in my plan, Vodafone -.-

I don't think that this bug is related to bad network coverage because first 160 characters are send. I tried sending sms from another network operator (Vodafone Romania), but i had the same results.
Bug also occurs using handcent app.
Lots of people have complained about that same bug here in finland. Different operators. Seems software bug.
2.3.3 to be exact. I never had that problem but i have flashed to 2.3.4.
Got same bug on 2.3.4.
I have had that bug in a 2.3.3 and now in a 2.3.4. It is not happening all the time, but it is present. In a 3G mode of course, in 2G everything is all right.
Eh. This is really stupid.
Software bugs in such an old phone ( for samsung since its close to Galaxy S)
I would understand this bugs at S II but here? .. hOpe we can fix it.
I got this error with internet turned complety off also..

What about 2.3.5 firmware? Had anybody tested?
Some people have realised this probleem seems to be related to phone switching between 2g & 3g. As i don't have this problem...could someone try switching 3g off and then try to send longer sms.
Is this problem related to only android's message program as there's other in market..are they working better??
It's been already established that 3G is causing the problem, but switching 3G off everytime you want to send a text is just plain stupid.

What baseband do you have?
Same bug for many users in germany!
Hi!
I'm from germany and here are MANY people having this problem! (for those who speak german: Take a look at the I9000 or I9001 board at "Android-hilfe.de"). There where many, many, many suppostiions why this happens. The only fact that everybody had is that it only happens in "automatic" and "only WCDMA" mode. It NEVER happens in GSM-only! I thougt it was a german-only bug, as it wasn't mentioned here on this board. I helped myself by closing the data network mode (long press at power button) before sending a SMS. I hope sometime a firmware update will fix it!?!
hey guys, just got word here that the bug is solved with the KPG 2.3.5 firmware rom. so check it out

I have the same sms bug problem like the thread starter and it was resolve after flashing to 2.3.6 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319463)
the sms bug is not
The sms bug(2.3.3) is not a network problem,it is that it converts sms that is over 100 or so caracters ,to mms... and yes 2.3.5 it is sms bug free
ps.heloo,new on forum.
Even 2.3.4 is bug free

2.3.5 vodafone romania is not bug free
One might try switching following option from "Warning" to "Restricted"
Messaging -> Settings -> (MMS Settings) Creation mode
In theory, this should prohibit MMS creation and add another SMS body instead no matter which network type (2G or 3G) is selected.
I had it in 2.3.3 and 2.3.5, in 2.3.6 never had it
(And i'm talking about that it doesn't send the message the first time, not about 160 chars)
Hi all, I have been using the Stock Extra from the here for a number of weeks now with no issues. Until yesterday when my galaxy s stopped making or receiving calls or text messages, I get an error message saying text not sent & when I try to dial out it goes straight to call ended. I have tried a restore which didn’t help and I have even went back to XXJVS Rom 2.3.5 but still no calls or texts ! I rang Virgin mobile yesterday and they did all the usual checks and they said it must be a setting on the phone causing the problem as they cant see anything being blocked or barred. When I use my card in another phone it works fine ! My wife’s sim card wont work in my phone either so it has to be the phone ! Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this problem? I am Desperate now I have only had the phone 3 months!
These are my settings now on XXJVSModel No

Did you try a reflash with Odin? Never seen this problem before.
Hi Paulforde, Yeah tried re-flashing with Odin but no change
Cheers
Try a different modem firmware...
I had several issues with several different ROMs but in most cases anything to do with calls, data, wifi, GPS, or BT were solved by flashing a different modem... I didn't notice which country or carrier you're using but I'm in Canada using Rogers and the best modem I've found for signal strength, and keeping all of the other radio related functions working has been UGKC1 This is dependant on where you are and who your carrier is though.
You can find most of the Froyo and Gingerbread modems here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391
Hope this helps,
Jamie
I have this exact problem with a Galaxy S I just got back from a RMA - the antenna was dodgy or something and it would get poor signal everywhere. Now signal is fine but it won't make texts/calls, again not the SIM.
Does your mobile internet work? Mine does which is weird..
Have you also checked your APN settings??
