Transferring nandroids - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got new hero coming Monday, can I restore my nandroid from this one to new one?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App

I've never tried but more than one person said it works

All you need to do is change the folder name that holds all of the backups with your new phone serial number. If you look inside the nandroid folder you'll see what I mean. Àt least that's how it was way back when I had to do it.

I Do it All the Time... I Have a Spare Hero that I use for Testing Certain things I'm Basically to Weary of on my Main phone!
All you have to do is Copy Over the Whole ClockworkMod Folder from one Sdcard to the Other! Either that or just Take out your Sdcard and put it into the New Phone, Reboot to Recovery/Restore/Reboot the Phone/Switch Back to the New Sdcard/And Make a Backup Again, onto the New Sdcard! That's it...
Lemme know if it Works!!

I'd start with posting in the correct forum: development instead of themes and apps.
That said, I'm very happy with Froyo 2.2.1 (released dec 13).

Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Did you wipe everything in recovery mode before installing the rom?
If you're not familiar with rom install steps, follow the steps in the guide posted in the development forum.

Will have a read up on it now thanks mate

Does the wipe erase everything from contacts to whole SD card?

I'd start with telling him to post in the real correct section, which we all know is general, or even Q&A
I use FroydVillain 1.7.2, but if you want speed, just flash flykernel 12 on your current ROM and it should be rapid.
I put froyo 2.1.1 on my phone and wiped everything including my nandroid back up is there any way I can get it back? Froyo is amazing may I add lol.. can I create a backup image of this rom instead?

There is a Radio thread in the dev section, where you can flash the newest radio versions. As to what it does.. im not entirely sure myself its supposed to improve phone reception i think.
But make sure you flash the correct type of radio... There is GSM or CMDA. Make sure u know which is the correct one for you!

Updating to stock froyo.

My mom has a captivate running stock android 2.1.
I only enabled lagfix on her phone and nothing else.
After the official froyo came out I was thinking about updating it.
I have a few questions about it. Please answer as many as you can...
1. Will all apps disappear?
2. If yes for #1 do I need to get titanium backup?
3. Do I disable lagfix?
Please help.. thank you

Here's your answer, search the forums. You will find it.
1. All apps will dissapear! Be warned
2. You should use titanium backup thats a good idea but the kb1 must be rooted and sideloading enable to get them all back (use super one click) also put the titanium backup folder on external sd or on computer just in case
3. YES DISABLE THE LAGFIX VERY IMPORTANT

Thanks for the reply!. Would have caused a great trouble if I didn't question this...
Anyway just wondering, if I just had the captivate and did not know anything about root/flash/etc I would have just updated and gotten everything deleted right?
Did Samsung mention the fact that all my apps would have disappeared?. I just think its unfair to some people....

With normal android devices this would not have been an issue as the apps reinstall when you light into your Google account but that feature is missing from the Galaxy line
Sent from the shadows
Yea, you should take all the important folders off your internal sd card like the titanium backup folder and put them spmewhere on you computer, that's what I did and once I updated I got all my files back, I still needed to root/enable sideloading to get my apps from TiBu back
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yes, it would have gotten deleted even if you hadn't upgraded to the ji6 build of froyo

Is that true? Now it makes sense why nothing seems to happen when I go to a new rom.
No clue... Probably a comp or browser

Nandroid?

When you back up a rom in rom manager, is that the same as a nandroid backup?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Essentially they are the same. Both back up your phone but CWM has a few more "items" that get backed up along with it (I think).
Possibly the recovery.img and boot.img. But it really doesn't make a difference if you're backing up your phone, both do the job

Both do the same thing. ROM Manager is just automated.

How to rename back ups?

I've got like 3 different back ups on my cwm is there a way I can rename them without messing them up?

Just Download Rom manager, then manage back ups, rename it then delete Rom manager if you so wish

Is it safe to select optimistic 3D in Rom manager or is it gonna brick my phone ... cause the thrill isn't in the list
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA
You can also use oi file manager just browse to your backup like if you use cwm :
Sdcard/cwm/backups
Once there long press the file you wanna rename and choose "rename" and just make sure to not put "spaces" while renaming your backup.. instead you can put "/" or "-"..

Yes Optimus 3D is safe. This is what I use. It works on both the Optimus 3D and the Thrill. Using this option you can also get cwm touch recovery. I use Rom manager to flash cwm recovery. The 'Thrill' cwm recovery that we were manually installing is also an Optimus 3D recovery image.

Every time I rename it says md5 sum mismatch
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA
you can rename them with any file manager, but to restore it has to be the original file name, so when renaming them add a prefix and then delete only what you added and it will flash with out a mismatch.

Have you tried restoring the rom whitout changing name to see if it works ?? Otherwise just take the numbers like : 1039.3.203030 and on your pc make a new note using note pad and name it whatever you wanna name it so it should look lile this :
102.2034.3404 = Energy Rom might not be the best solution but a quick workaround...

Just use rom manager to rename. It will generate a new md5 sum to match.

I would also agree that it is safe. I just flashed it yesterday and it works perfectly. ROM Manager is a nice app to have.
I know this thread is a few months old, but just figured i'd update this for anyone else who may be having issues, or might have issues in the future and google's it... but you can rename the backups to whatever you feel like and have no issues restoring it due to MD5 sums mismatches. The only thing is that you can't use spaces. If you absolutely have to have some form of a space in the name of the folder for the backup, use a period or something instead.

File system on ARHD 10

Clear this up for me and everyone else. What is going on here with the data/media? Also it seems like it's just me but when I moved my files from there to sdcard everything was deleted after reboot so I have none of my old stuff.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Welcome to Android 4.2.2. Your files need to be under folder 0 to be seen correctly.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 8
I've never seen this on my n7. Also why is it when I place a file in /sdcard using root explorer the files get deleted on reboot?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Not sure on that one, mate, but if you place them on /sdcard/0 they should stick without issue.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 8
I know you can place things in /storage/emulated/0 and it works but on my nexus 7 I just use /sdcard and everything is fine. Here when I reboot it says files there are temporary and are deleted on reboot.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Hmm, I'll fide around with mine. I've never heard of files being placed on any storage location being deemed temporary and deleted. There's another guy in a thread up who can only get things to stixk/flash when he pushes them to /data/media/

Maybe I need to reflash. I think I'm gonna wipe my sdcard when I do and start from scratch.

Flash first THEN wipe! ... or else adb sideload is your friend!
(But I've seen you around here enough that you should know better... so just in case!)
Well it's not doing it anymore. It did it long enough to delete all my other files because I thought I had to place all my stuff there. Oh well, I'm just missing like 10 songs and some pictures from my current backup files.
