I have been using Andromeda for about a day and was wondering a few things. Can different modems be flashed through CWM and if so, how? Also the kernels, can they be flashed through CWM? WHICH IS BETTER, URSA MINOR OR URSA MAJOR? I would appreciate the input.

Both modems and kernels can be flashed in clockwork.
Not sure which is better but I believe one allows for oc

Sorry wrong device.
Thanks for all the feedback. I have the SGS flasher but what unfamiliar with it so I haven't used it. I will once I have enough know-how.lol

hi, i'm new to android, and just get my captivate(rogers) few hr ago. and upgraded to 2.2
i did some research, mostly saying that 2.2 captivate has screen lag problem
and i know it can be fix, by lagfix, but how do i start?
i know there is some app in market to do that, but is it safe?
what happen if my phone become brick ?
if i use the ryanZA's one click lag fix 2.0, do i need to root my phone?
if yes how do i root? z4root?
please help me. thank you
Go to the Captivate Development section and the go to stickies and then read captivate directory. In there should be a link to a guide to rooting the rogers captivate.

yup! pretty much.. You should also look into the voodoo lagfix as it is much better than oclf.
I would avoid oclf. It is obsolete

i search voodoo and got this thread [KERNEL] Project Voodoo stable, lagfix.....
is this the right one?

That one would probably be decent. undo ext2 and uninstall oclf. Get neldar's sgs kernel flasher app from market and back up your current kernel, then install the new kernel. if any problems arise, simply restore your previous kernel with sgs kernel flasher. good luck!

it dont look right for my i896.
sorry for my stupid questions.
The one you mentioned earlier, or one of these should work for you.

Firebird 2 v0.4 - Based on Giorgio Armani Android 2.2 kernel source

Both of these are fast as well.
Hey guys, I'm also interested in upgrading from OCLF to the voodoo lagfix; how will flashing the kernel give me a performance improvement? Will voodoo work without the kernel flash?
*EDIT*- Also, does voodoo lagfix for the i-897 work for the i-896? I'm on Rogers.

i flashed to the firebird. works well score around 1450~1589
but every time i reboot i896(also when it got fully charger-ed), when i got into contact, it take about 5~10sec to load up the contact. is it normal?
Do you have to use specific kernels with certain custom roms? I am currently running andromeda 3 with ursa minor kernal. Can I just flash a new rom via clockwork mod without changing kernel?
Thanks!

You just have to captivate kernel with captivate modem (unless reorinted i9000 kernel) and sam matchup with i9000 kernel/modem... If the rom is compatable by what I said then u can just flash the rom

Tbh, I don't see why you would want to flash another rom using ursa minor. A3 + ursa minor go insanely well together (which is why they are in the ROM full flash). I believe you can use ursa minor on other froyo custom rom but I could be wrong (Adam, if you see this, please don't kill me if I'm wrong ) as A3 is I9010 based.
Other roms come with different kernel as the devs feel like they're the best/most stable to go along with their respective rom. So if you want the best experience trying a different one, I suggest you do a full flash (which includes rom, modem, kernel) and try them out that way. You can then decide if A3 (or any other) is more appropriated for you.
Just my though tho
I can vouch that. I need teh OC/UV.

Do you mean the one that was created by DesignGears? The one with CWM in it?
I remeber seeing a member who had a custom kernel on KF1 with Voodoo on it by Existz or something...
Without source?

I know DG hasn't worked with his Rom's Kernel (except the cwm) since the source hasn't been released. Nor has Team Phoenix. I haven't seen the KF1 that u mentioned but the 2 KF1 roms have not modded the kernel because source hasn't drop. But that's from what I've seen.
I think he got confused with kB1...
Easy mistake.
Easier with all the damn I9000 gb firmwares: jv(insert letter/number here)
Anyway I haven't flashed kf1 but on I9000 ginger kernels that have ext4 I have found they are all smoother and less problematic formatted in rfs...

So you say I'm better off without a lagfix?
Atomic fusion uses a custom kernel by existz, but it does not have ext4, nor does the cog5 kernel. But so far I haven't seen a need for it. My phone flies on atomic fusion. Voodoo sound can be added by buying the app. Well worth it.

From my experience with gingerbread yes you are better off without a lagfix...although like I said I've never flashed kf1 so if that's laggy for you maybe give some I9k roms a try the kernels now are voodoo injected so if its still laggy you can try ext4...

On Atomic Fusions main page it says its running DG's Cog 5 Beta Kernel, Just saying. If its mentioned later on the the forums I don't know. Regardless The source has not droped so they have only tweaked the kernel somewhat. As to needing it, My phone ran real fast on both Cog 5 and now on Atomic Fusion, and i don't see a need for it.
Hi
I currently have an vodafone unlocked galaxy running bujv9 rom. and cf-root XWJVH kernel. phone is rooted.
I been looking at kernels which support voodoo sound and other stuff as my one does not.
How do i go from a jvh rom and kernel to say a jvr kernel and rom which supports the voodoo stuff.
Is it a simple wipe then CWM flash new rom then odin jvr kernel. or other way around. Not sure.
Sorry still learning galaxy flashing. well different from HTC flashing.
Cheers.
If you want to try latest rom and a kernel with all features flash stock JVS in odin and then flash Darkcore 4 or Semaphore 1.7 in odin

Your desired rom should have kernel so no need for flashing twice.
You will probably get away with factory reset and cwm flash. Any probs you may have to flash stock first.

There are apps that will do this, but may not work properly (depending on a lot of things). If you're unsuccessful with the app, or if you'd rather another way, the main to go about it is to flash a kernel that is already rooted.
Thanks for your reply, my problem is that i can't find the right cf-root kernal and also because phone locked to network my build number is bujv9,

Here's the steps you need to do:
- Flash your stock GB rom first.
- Flash the zimage-root.tar file in Odin
- Let phone boot to Fugu Fish
- Power off phone, reboot to download mode
- Flash kernelKF1.tar file in Odin.
- Reboot.
At that point, you're on stock gingerbread with root capabilities. You shouldn't have had to re-flash the stock GB, as it took root away again.
And also, there should b a kj3 .tar under the attachments at the title of that thread, so u can flash it instead of kf1.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
^ Like he said. Flash the correct kernel, not KF1. Look around for the correct kernel. What 2.3.5 are you using? KJ# or KI#? Wich ever might be look for a kernel in Dev.
If all you are looking for is root, the above method works really well. Although, if you are familiar with vodoo and want to include it after you root, it may be easier to flash one of the new kernels that have have root and vodoo such as the samurai kernel. Just another thought, hope you find what you're looking for.

correct kernel
I did not see an attachment on that thread for the kj3 kernel. Do u have a link to the kj3 kernel?

You can run Corn kernel, Samurai Kernel or Boog's KJ3 kernel. Boogs is closer to stock. All of them have CWM, Corn and Samurai have Voodoo lag fix. I believe Samurai and a version of Corn have rooted kernels, I could be wrong.

Awesome...
Thanks! Now where can I get custom boot animations?
Check Theme subsection for captivate. In theory any animation should work assuming they are made for the correct resolution. You just have to make sure its named right. Though I know some kernels accept both names for it.
Lock Screen
Are there any custom lock screens that can be flashed using cwn? or how would I go about changing my default lock screen?
Uh to my knowledge lock screens are build in the rom. Though I've seen like 1 lockscreen that was made to flash over default but don't know if it applies for KJ3.
Lock Screen
Well, if I use an app for the lock screen (such as swirl), is there a way to disable the built in lock screen?
