[Q] Noob question... Nookie froyo , Honey Comb, auto nooter - Nook Color General

I Have a NC that was rooted using the auto nooter process. What I was wondering is what is the difference between say that and nookie froyo. What is the best way to go. I love my autonottoered nc the only thing that stinks is the the skipping of the music and the youtube issue (I know thats fixable just havent taken the time).. Anyways thanks in advance for taking the time to answer this

I'm using a nootered nook. Not having any issues with music skipping or the youtube app. You may need to redownload the youtube apk and uninstall the old one and reinstall the new one. I use Rockplayer lite or the built in music player with no trouble...

video playback help

I am new to the site and let me say wow I just started this post and i was given similar post list to bad it didn't have what i was looking for but wow
now to my question i have rockplayer universal installed and it will not play my dvix
1. what format is recommended
2. should rockplayer work did i do something wrong should uninstall and reinstall via app store
last but no least does nc support the flashplayer.apk ?
tired install on my nc 1.0.1 and i get sdk orlder error
I didn't want to make multiple post but i like my movies thanks in advance for any help and direction i will continue to search thanks
Flash is only available on Android 2.2. Nook Color 1.0.1 is still on Android 2.1.
I tried Rockplayer as well. I did manage to get it to play a good many of my divx/xvid's with sound, but it was choppy and quickly lost audio-sync. I think because I was forced to use the software player.
mpeg4/h.264 inside an "mp4" wrapper and less than 720px wide seem to work quite well. Best bet would be to convert your files to that format - I've used "Any Video Converter" with good success (I know - it's a pain)
thank you both how do you give thank you rep

Engadget App

For all posts with videos in them (excluding The Engadget Show), the video links have "Unsupported video format".
Does anyone know what is needed to get these videos to work?
Anyone?
Wish I had the answer. I love the app. I wonder if anyone running Froyo has gotten the videos to work in the Engadget app?

On my Evo with custom Froyo rom (Myn's Warm 2.2), Engadget podcast videos play using RockPlayer or the built-in streaming media player. Unfortunately I don't have my NC with me so I can't test to see if RockPlayer works there as well.
Not sure if it is a codec or a flash problem but when my captivate upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 I went from having this very same issue in 2.1 to being able to see all content in 2.2.
Doesn't work on my NC with Froyo.

Wild guess, but it's likely because those clips use Flash, and unless you're running Froyo from your SD card on the Nook, you're not going to be able to see those clips. Big bummer. I'm dying to get Froyo. I may try installing it on the SD card today, just to see if it'll work for me. Outside of that, I just want Bluetooth working, so I can use my Bluetooth headphones.

Froyo emmc can use flash. I dont know if the sd card can or cannot (i presume it can). Not sure why he made it sound like it can't (possibly typo? or something).
I'll test the engadget app later today for you unless someone else has by the time I can.

Yeah, he worded it weirdly. Most likely a typo.
Thanks for testing.

Sorry this took so long, been of a busy weekend for me. The engadget app also says "unsupported video format" and if I click videos it says "Sorry this video cannot be played." just like youtube says. It does work if I go to the website and view it that way, albeit the video is laggy (audio sounds laggy too, whihc is weird considering the audio for youtube sounds perfect")

Weird. That sucks

I wonder, what is the requirement to be able to play these videos in the Engadget app? What is causing it to not work?

For Froyo its the same reason(or i presume it is) pandora and youtube won't load, theres some network issue in the underlying code preventing these apps from working (but allowing their flash version to run in the browser). One of the developers said he believes he is close to a fix so maybe we'll be able to use these apps soon
How about the size of the application being shrunken to the top middle of the screen under Froyo? Anything we can do about that?

Turn on Compatibility Mode for apps that don't use the entire screen
Go to Spare Parts -> Compatibility Mode. Uncheck it and restart for more full-sized windows

[Q] No videos playing on nook color

ok so i recently flashed phiremod v3,the latest cm7 nightly and hc v4 and none of them seem to support video... i cant watch videos on youtube (website not app) yahoo or anywhere. any suggestions? thanks.
did you install flash? I have phiremod v2 with flash installed (from market) and youtube website works fine for me.
flash
yeah i made sure i downloaded flash from the market but i keep getting an error message saying this video cannot be played...
At this time CM7, phiremod (based on CM7) and brianf21's customized nookie 0.6.8 do not support video natively. They hope to fix that in future releases.
Since video is important to me, and not everything I watch is flash, I went back to customized nookie 0.6.7 and installed dalingrin's latest kernel. I'll get occassional FC, especially if advance or go back in video (fixed by reboot), but at least video plays.
video
ok thanks alot. i just wanted to make sure its not just something wrong with my device. im not so worried about the video as i still have my android phone, this is just a toy lol. but thanks again for the info.
Also HC doesn't have DSP either. Nookie 0.6.8 (DSP introduced in 0.6.7) worked when I tried but has a very small stutter like something occasionally running in the background. Went to Nook 1.1.0 rooted and can notice the small difference. A OC kernel might have fixed the problem but didn't try.

Better Youtube?

I downloaded the Gingerbread .apk from this forum but Rootexplorer says the install is blocked. So...
1) Is the gingerbread .apk going to give me full screen high quality youtube video? Or will I just get crappy cellphone video?
2) How do I install the .apk...if it is what I was actually looking for, of course.
I have the youtube app that came with autonooter but like I said above, even the HQ setting is bad.
from what I understand, DSP isn't working in gingerbread or honeycomb on the nook as of yet so no HQ video will play until they figure it out.

Wait what?? you downloaded the Gingerbread APK? file... I'm pretty sure that what you have there is the Gingerbread Keyboard Ripped to work on 2.1 and 2.2.......
and right now what you have is the best performing Youtube there is. If you are having issues with quality then its the youtube videos you are watching.....
Also it already does Full Screen... just rotate your device....
To answer your 2nd question, you will need to enable "Non-Market" Apps install. and then either Push the file to your device with ADB, or just put it on a SD card and open it with root explorer or another file explore program.
You can get to the applications settings by going to Nooktools app that came with autonooter, and going to all settings then to applications then you should see the option to enable "non Market installs"

Some confusion there. I pulled the gingerbread youtube apk from a thread around here on youtube that wouldn't run at all, hoping it would work. I downloaded it from my Nook so that must be why its blocked. Either way its not going to help. I'll just wait for an update.
And yes, I have turned it sideways....come on. I meant full screen HD.

Dig around for the file named "signed_YouTube.apk". This will play HQ vids properly on nook color eclair. You can run it from sdcard/system/app. If you get an installation error, open nook color tools and toggle Allow non market apps on and off then try again
Will do. Thanks.
Edit: That was the file i downloaded. I moved it to the sd card root and it installed. Not sure its any different but at least i know im current on the apk. Thanks again.

Another tip, in YouTube settings set it to start High Quality on mobile. This will default to HQ video when available. Look for videos in HD and tilt to landscape view. The video will take a few moments to buffer and start but then you can skip through it freely.

[Q] H.264/Recording Failed

im having a problem recording/watching videos & listening to pandora on my captivate any ideas???
continuum 3.1.1 Froyo 2.2.1 rooted
You need at least 340 total ram to play and record hd files. Check and make sure your rom supports it, as some custom roms don't.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
i have 340 total ram what else do u think it could be?
it's like hit or miss sometimes it works sometime it doesnt
Try using task manager to clear out the used ram before starting a video.....
Could be an app you have hogging resources.
im still having the problem! is anybody else have a problem similar to this?
Flash back to stock, see if it still does it. If not, then root. Check your recoding again. Every time you change something, check recording playback.
Did the problem just start, meaning you could do it before, but not now?
Cezar is up to v4 for Continuum, maybe you just need to upgrade.
thanks for your help. no this start with the audio (wav. & Mp3) not working all the time. like my ringtone would switch to silent etc. but i fixed that by converting the files to .ogg files. & now the audio & video are doing this youtube stops working as well as pandora my music player video player & video recording. it start on JI6 so i switch to KB1 & now on continuum 3.1.1 Froyo 2.2.1 rooted & both do it idk whats going on. what do u think?
P.s. if i reboot my phone it all works again! it's really weird.
Agree with previous poster. Sound like you have an app hogging resources. I would still recommend my advice from my previous post. It will isolate the prob.
so you don't think its something with the phone more like the rom or an app?? right
What kernel are u on? Some kernels sacrifice 720p recording for some extra RAM.
2.6.32.9 speedmod k13c
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
There are 2 different speedmod kernels for download. One is called big memory, and you lose 720 recording. Dont know about theaudio part.
Look, you can randomly replace this and that, prob take a few days to go through everything you can think of. If you take a scientific approach to troubleshooting, it may take a couple of hours, but you should find your answer as to why these things won't work. It's not fun, but it is the best way I see you being able to stove this problem.
If you disagree, that's fine. This is just my opinion on how to solve this problem.
Good luck, I really hope you find your answer, even if you choose a different path to get it.
Thank you so much for ur help I've been tryin things for days that y I posted a question. I dnt think its the kernel because it did the samething with stock kb1 I really thing its am app but dnt know which one its weird because its audio & video & if I run a benchmark test I get a h264 decorder error & it locks up

To clarify, when I said flash to stock,i meant 2.1 stock. You should be able to upgrade to 2.2 through kies(make sure sim card, external sd are removed before flashing and upgrading). But, if it every thing works on 2.1, and you want to flash a rom, skip the 2.2 upgrade. Then follow directions onhow to flash from the first page of the f rom thread.
