[Q] Screwed up after flashing - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

EDIT - See bottom of post - I solved it!
After trying out CyanogenMod, I decided to flash back to JL2 on my Bell I9000M.
Reading the directions to flash back it said just to flash using Odin with repartition. So I do so using the JL2 firmware from samfirmware.com.
After rebooting, however, I'm presented with the following:
update media, please wait
E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI me
nu for format and reboot actions.
copy default media content failed.
Click to collapse
Formatting and wiping using the recovery menu has no effect. Rebooting gets me to the "S" logo, but it just sits there and vibrates every so often after that. Reflashing has no effect, and I've tried using PIT files to no avail.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: I was able to flash hardcore's kernel and boot into ClockworkMod, and I formatted all the partitions there, but it still throws the same error.
EDIT: No need to respond to this. I figured it out, and I'll do a writeup on how I fixed it for those who may end up in the same predicament as me.

Phone won't boot

I'm not sure what I've done, but I obviously wasn't paying attention. I had RyanZA's 2.3 beta lagfix installed and I decided to uninstall it using the supplied script. At some point I saw my phone reboot and I thought it had finished, but I don't really remember what happened after that.
Anyway, I've got it to the stage where it just shows the i9000 startup screen, goes black, then shows the i9000 screen again. I can get into recovery and I've got clockwork recovery installed as well, so I can get into that. I've used adb, but I can't get a log of it booting because it just says waiting for device and never gets past that stage. I used adb shell to see if I could manually process the scripts, but it looks like all the data and the backups of the data folders are gone.
I've wiped data in both clockwork and stock recovery, but I still can't get the phone to boot. System still looks ok, so I'm not sure why it's not working.
Anyway, my main question is, how can I get my phone back up and running? The mount usb option doesn't seem to be working, so I guess I'll have to use Odin or KIES, but what do I flash? Is there a link for a stock UK i9000 firmware somewhere?
Update:
Ok, I've got the phone working again, but after using Odin to flash the firmware, it reboots into recovery and I get the message can't mount /dev/block/stl11 (invalid argument)
The phone boots ok, but I can't download anything from the market ("download unsuccessful" almost immediately)
Internet works fine, so I don't think that's the problem.
Further update:
After Odin has flashed, the phone boots into recovery with the following messages:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl11 (invalid argument)
update media, please wait ...
E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl10 (invalid argument)
E: copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA: copy default media content failed
E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl11 (invalid argument)
E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl11 (invalid argument)
This was after flashing WJM6 with .513 pit
You can try this...connect your phone with KIES and update it with the official firmware. I have not tried this so I dont know if it will help you.
Thanks, I eventually got it to work by flashing the WJG5 firmware. It would probably help if I'd known what it was actually running in the first place.
Now I've got it working though, I might try connecting to KIES and seeing if there's an updated version.
hey there, is this resolved? i got mine working after
can't mount /dev/block/stl11 (invalid argument)
but its still there. Do u know how to clean this error?
Update: I Fixed it by reflashing to WJG5 as stated above. BUT when i tryed reflashing with newer rom its still there..

Hello
I had the same and i solved through the guide here:

But i think the problem really was that i have make an ext2 partition on sd-card.
I removed the sd-card during flashing.
Hi Guys, I'm looking for some help for a mate of mine who can't get his Samsung Galaxy S to start up.
The phone is box standard from Vodafone and only a couple of months old. It hasn't been rooted or tampered with in any way.
Today he decided to plug it into kies to check for updates and it showed him that there was an update available for his phone. he followed the on screen prompts and went about updating it. After it updated the phone just died on him. I have spoke to him over the phone to try and explain the 3 button recovery method to him but he still can't get it to boot up. He has sent me a photo of his phone so hopefully that may help for any potential advice. I'm no phone expert but could easily follow any instructions/ guides on flashing etc.
Any advice or help would be most grateful
Cheers, Sean

If the phone can enter download mode, it can be rescued. Otherwise, it was definitely bricked.

Try to pull out the battery for 10 minutes. Then but the batteri back.
Then try to get in download mode.
If you can't, the try to see if odin see it.
If odin can see it try to flash back original firmware.
If you are lucky it can work.
If not then it seems very bad.

Thanks Damian, I will pass this info on to him tomorrow. I wish my mate lived closer so I could have a go at it myself.
i do have the exact same problem but flashing JM8 doesn't solve it.
in odin 1.3 with re-partition enabled I used s1_odin_20100512.pit, CODE_I9000XWJM8.tar.md5 as PDA and MODEM_I9000XXJM4.tar.md5 as phone
on startup I still get "E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl11 (Invalid argument)"
any ideas please?

Why dont you flash crc also?
Try to do a complete flash.
Then go in recovery more and do wipe catch and a factory reset.
If you manage to get it to boot do format your internal sdcard.

then that's what caused it. you should have disable your lagfix before flashing the new rom. i'm not 100% sure on this but i think you need to do a factory reset and reflash and repartion. maybe some more knowledgeable could answer that one though.
Maybe Ur other kernel not support ext4 filesystem.
reflash speedmod kernel and disable lagfix then flash Ur other kernel.
I've had the same problem. The pit file I used was wrong. I was using 513 instead of 512. Try reflashing eclair. And make sure the region is the same.
i disabled the lagfix before flashing the new kernel...anyway guys i got is sorted finally...i repartitioned and flshed XXJPO using odin...thank god it worked...thank you all for caring

I'm in the same boat. Is there any way you can help me?
I've flashed xxjpo using odin but still have the issue.
First, I set up the PIT using 512. Repartition, auto reboot a f restart all checked, the two below, not checked. Connect the phone, run it, disconnect the phone, pull battery, start into download mode again.
Next, I flash the pda with the xxjpo firware from the stock firmwares section here. I unchecked repartition, but left the other two, and I'm back at square one. Is there any way you can walk me through how you got back to a booting OS?

[Q] phone goes to black screen

Hi all
I have the Bell Samsung Galaxy S I-9000
I think I screwed up my phone by trying to put to an update the CSC using Odin
After rebooting, it was always rebooting to the recovery mode.
when I reboot the phone, the boot animation will come up but when it will try to go into the OS my phone will shake and my screen will go black and will shake every 10 sec
I tried to restore my phone with the previous Rom that I saved but no luck.
Tried to reflash with Odin the stock firmware but no luck
I found something on the forumt to use Odin and click the re-partition and have the 512 Pit file and reflash the rom but didn't work.
And also when I flash the stock rom it will reboot in recovery mode and give me this error message:
Update media, please wait
e:Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
e:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI me nu for format and reboot actions
copy default media content failed
=========================
Also I have tried to format the internal memory too and wipe data/cache
is their any other suggestion that you guys can suggest to do
Thanks
Paco
AHHHH false alarm I did something else and it worked
I did a flash with rom + pit + modem + CSC and I have put the option re-partition and the other 2 option in Odin
and now no more black screen

[I9000] CM7.1RC update failed -> back to XXJPK failed - help!

I've been on CM7.1RC for a while, recently apps kept crashing for no reason. I have a lot of apps tried disabling some things with autostarts but there were too many apps and too many triggers and all to hard.
So tried wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache, phone took a long time to reboot, was OK for a while but then same thing reoccurred.
So I decided to reinstall CM to the latest daily following wiki instructions, but I did something in the wrong order and got stuck in a bootloop before I had put the zips on the internal SDCard.
So I though, I'll go back to XXJPK using ODIN and restart from there. Again, bootloop. I have download mode and recovery 3e working, recovery 3e brings up error message:
update media please wait
E: can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
E: copy_dbdata_media: can't mount DBDATA:
your storage not prepared yet.
pease use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
copy default media content failed
I tried to reformat the internal SDCARD using the recovery 3e options and re-ODIN XXJPK but no joy.
Suggestions?
I am getting the same bootloop described in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466838
but flashing with the stock XXJPK I originally used did not get it out of the bootloop. Any other pointers?

[Q] Failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)

I have a Samsung I987 Captivate. It was running SlimRom 4.2.2 and running fine. It started acting up by showing that the battery was dead. I plugged it into the charger and it immediately said it was half charged. I rebooted it and that s when it all went to hell. I got into clockworkmod and cleared dalvak and cache. At this point I rebooted but it still wasn't acting right. At this point I don't know what happened so I couldn't get into clockworkmod but I could get into download mode with a jig. I used Adam's I897UCKK4 Stock, Wipe, with options to install Bootloaders, Param, and Re-partition-One-Click.jar file which did it's thing and upon a reboot showed this on the screen and that is where it's at. The phone boots to the boot screen and then reboots. I have tryed searching on XDA and Google and haven't come up with a fix other than maybe a jtag at which point the phone isn't worth fixing.

I know that you aren't on ICS and I know that you didn't get the encryption unsuccessful issue that ICS had, but it sounds like your internal SD has died which is similar to what happens with the EU bug. So have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447303 and see if what others experienced after the EU bug isn't the same as what you're experiencing now.
Thank you m1batt1- That is similar to what I have and yes, your right about the ics. The thing that they are doing over on the thread going into cwm is something I can't do. The idea of swapping to the ext sdcard would be fine if I could figure out how to do it. I'll keep looking and trying.

No, actually I turned it in to AT&T for the rebate credit card. I haven't heard anything from them at this point. I got it to a point where it would boot up to the ATT screen. As stock as I could get it.
