After reading the thread about people selling SD cards with froyo on it on ebay, I came across this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...516266&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_845wt_1139
Whether or not it's a ripoff aside, how is he dual booting this way? I use my nook equal parts with the original software and Nookie Froyo, and I've love to be able to dual boot in an identical fashion.
Is there something I can install to allow me to hold down the home key and boot straight to stock OS even when the SD card is in?
Thanks!
He editted the u-boot.bin to boot to mmcblk0p5 if the N key is held. Or more likely, he used the one on these forums, there should be a post with a bunch of downloads of different u-boot.bin's in the dev fourms

no, i did lol. whats wrong with the search? i dont seem to ever have a problem finding what i need.
Probably something to do with the 30s delay between searches, at a guess. Makes doing iterative searching a serious PITA.

You don't. Not sure what you want to "mod" but just about everything not available on the market, and possibly everything seen here requires root. It's not hard, just do it.
I just want to be able to do all these gorgeous things http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=519
Download the .zip file, place it into your SD card, reboot into recovery mode (phone needs to be rooted by the way) by holding the HOME key and POWER key, select aaply sdcard:choose zip, select the .zip you just downloaded.

I've had my G1 since Christmas of 08 and I finally decided to root. I jailbroke my ipod touch, and I heard rooting is similar to that, so i'm up for the task. I have firmware 1.6 and build number DMD64.
What exactly do I need to do, and what is the best rom to date that is good to use?

Did you search or anything?
You won't get anyone here that's going to hold your hand or do it for you because in the twenty or so minutes that you waiting for the answer to be handed to you you could have found it for yourself by reading the above link and/or searching. So you are in actually just wasting your time posting your question. By the way since you are obviously new to XDA here's a fair warning. There are three types of people on here... those that help, those that are idle (just read but don't post) and those that need everything done for them. What kind do you think your first impression made and what kind of people do you think get flammed by the Senior Members that spend hours every week helping people like yourself by answering the same questions over and over again even after it's already been answered. And you're probably thinking "Instead of writing out this whole damn thing, why didn't he just tell me the answer?" Well because if you don't learn this way you're only going to rely on us from here on out if you are spoon fed. Again, I'm not trying to be a d!ck but if you want to make it here on XDA you have to play by the rules. Happy rooting!

A rooted phone is timeless, you can have any version of Android, whenever you want it. Therefore, it makes sense that an old thread is just as good as a new thread that has the same exact information other than the rom you flash.
Ok, I finished rooting my G1 and got to the HTC v.1.5.2 screen, now i'm going to install a rom
Thanks to all of the guides and youtube videos, I now have Manup456 Eclair 2.1 V1.5 on my G1! Just going back to put back in my ringtones and files. It's like I have a brand new phone!
Havent seen this asked yet but is there a way to root your g1 without a data plan and a data block put on your service (on ATT)

"Seen" well then you were only looking for about 2 seconds then. Google it.
wow, seriously? noone can get any help any more. everyone is just such a **** these days.
anyways, you need a data plan to root ur phone. you personally don't need it, but get a friend that has a data plan and use his SIM card for the procedure. and i'm sure there are some apps that force all data to be stopped and only allow wifi. i know my hero rom has an option to disable all data except for wifi built right in. i used hero_over. but i'm sure all hero roms have that option.

Your method is probably the most "common-sense" idea. We're not being dicks, we're just sick and tired of people not searching before posting, there's about millions of pages on google on the topic but they insist on coming here anyways. He can register through wifi with adb which most people do, so this pretty much contradicts the word "need" in your first statement. I won't carry on because I don't need to because I'd be a "****".

in anycase you're wrong, I haven't seen a question asking if you can root a phone without a data plan and a data block put on your phone.. keyword: DATA BLOCK... yes I am not an idiot.. I do search, why do alot of you seniors post on Q&A with "search please" ... just to get your post count up? Seems pretty regressive on helping people in a questions section.
Thanks to the other poster XD, but isn't there an option to get around it by entering in wifi to supplement the loss of a data plan and the addition of a data block?
Yes you can use no data plan too:

But when you really think about it, what's the point of having a Dream if you don't have a data plan? The majority of what the phone does involves intensive data plan usage, and I don't know about anybody else, but I actually use my device other than sitting at my computer.
Just my two cents.
i used the odin one click program to flash back to stock firmware...but after it was completed it still says im running froyo???
What do i need to do?
depends on which one click you used. there is one for Froyo JI6 and there is one for ECLAIR JF6
i guess i used the wrong one, is there anyway you could get me link or can i just search for it?

It is a lot to take in, but it really is in you and your phones best interest that you read it all. Nobody wants a $500 (out of contract) / $200 (in contract) paperweight.

Hell, the cappy is so light that it wouldn't even work well as a paperweight. Unless it's just one piece of paper it was holding down.

well... anyway... i know what you mean. blur at some point back then. but its necessary for you to know what you are going to do and what will come next before you mess up your phone. At the end of the day, you'll find out its a simple thing. if you meet any problem. state it here. if i'm around i'll see what i can do. else someone else will provide you some help if they're interested. ^^
you can start with what version of firmware you have and Hboot version from the boot loader. power off your phone than hold vol- and power button. read the green words on top of the screen. this might clear a lot of things
lol.... no wonder your name was so familiar... i was looking for some hack for x10 mini few weeks ago and your name was there.

If you have some knowledge as you claim "sharing his thought", might you please elaborate what good, what we can learn out of the OP thread? I personally think it is a completely useless post, at least, in the Nook Color General section.

This is interesting. Also I happen to have the same gear, and many others here I'm sure have android phones as well. I would have been a little leary to try this out myself. Was the Thunderbolt otherwise unmodified, or was it rooted/rom'd already?

This post is in a perfect place. The General section is for sharing anything that doesn't fit into any of the other sections. The SD Card in question was used in his Nook Color. Therefore, the post pertains to the Nook Color. I don't believe this post would fit in any of the other sections seeing as how it is not a question, theme, app, accessory, or anything to do with android development on the Nook Color. If you cannot understand the concept of a General forum, you really need reassess your decision to drop out of high school. And yes that was an insult to your intelligence.
