Is it just me, or does "google maps" and WLS maps blow tomtom and iguidance out of the water.. imo, google maps has the best feel of all four apps and the satallite view is good.. Iguidance is even better with the street names overlaid onto the satallite view...
Tomtom is the worst of the four, with a clunky interface and iguidance's interface is not as quick as google or WLS.

It follows me....
do you mean "follow you" as in the map scrolling automatically as you travel? if so, it does do that...
you might have a different version than me or a lot of other people have then. Ours doesnt follow us. it shows a blue blinking dot where you are at that dot moves, but the map doesnt, so soon your location is off the map. Also, if you are in an area with no cell, your maps wont work. IG/TT/etc will continue to work with no problems.
I have google maps, microsoft live search, and Tomtom 6 installed on my 8925 and although I love the features of live and google, I think tomtom is the preferred option to navigate to a specific location, because it navigates with voice and on screen info for the next turn. Google and Live will show you where you are and give you a route to follow, but without voice prompts both are a little dangerous to use while driving.
Here's a quick breakdown for you.
Google - has sat pics. is free. is from google! POIs are searchable via googles site. Problems. No voice. No T2S. Limited to 2d view
MS - same
TT - No T2S. Less accurate maps. More accurate pathing. Smoother FPS. Clunky or best interface depending on who you talk to. Sat maps and T2S rumored to be coming in the next billion years. has 2d and 3d.
IG - Has voice. has T2S. Has what in the U.S. is considered the most accurate mapping. Has commonly used features set to minimum buttons. Has the most 2d and 3d views. decent interface. slightly outdated graphics. Known comm problem with kaiser.
Which navigation software does travel with you when you want directions? I have google maps and it does not travel with you during directions.
I'm using Telenav and it seems to work well. It has not been fully integrated with PPC Outlook yet. Can't navigate to ppc contacts saved address. You must renter your contacts address in Telenav to navigate. You can however import your desktop Outlook contacts to an online service on their website. My favorite feature of Telenav is the ability to call a toll free number, speak your destination and after hanging up your destination is imported into Telenav and it automatically begins to speak you directions and check traffic.
I think Telenav is good but $10 a month or $100 a year is ridiculous. I am using the 30 day trial until my Garmin XT micro sd card comes.
I using iGO Plus
i use i guidance as well, it's very accurate and easy to use...what is the known comm problem with the kaiser, i have an ATT Tilt and i haven't ran into any issues...i hate that google or live has to connected to the internet all the time...
and i haven't tried tomtom but the fact that it doesn't come with US maps (at least the free version posted around these forums) and it doesn't do T2S made not even bother trying it...

I have the tilt as well. Most people with the tilt or tytnii are having IG wait 1-5 minutes before it loads up if you dont shut down comm mgr first. IG says that they probably wont fix this.

How to start?
Hi guys,
I am a newbie and havent been able to get the GPS function to work yet.
I got the handset from Orange, flashed it with the HTC ROM found on this forum, downloaded googlemap and ran the QuickGPS. Googlemap hasnt been able to detect where I am yet.
Any advice would be great.
I use iGO myway. It's by far the best i've used. and I've used them all. LONG LIVE PPCW
Wayfinder
I'm using Wayfinder 6 on my TyTN II. I use Wayfinder since 4 years now. Easy to use, fast enough and powerful!
Try this.....

I would suggest hard resetting you Tytn. You might have fooled with the external gps settings and I think it's been noted here that if you even look at the settings the internal gps gets hosed. I was having the same problem until I did a hard reset. I'm all good now.
I have buy the original software MOBILE NAVIGATOR 6 from the Navigon.
Doesn't he succeed in installing him/it on the Diamond with some shrewdness?
Help me !
Thanks
oh no , it is rubbish, bought it for my nokia 6110 and it did nit work ok, no solution from navigon, bad service no refund because i bought the donwnload version ...
MN6 is like a big stone around my neck, I'm stuck with it because I need the logbook function that writes to an excel file.
It takes about a minute to start - It's slow - it crashes when you most need it - It takes ages to stop - the maps are out of date - navigon fresh doesn't work - it costs a bomb to call the helpline and they are not very helpful, probably because they already have your money (all just my opinion of course )
If you know of any nav software that has a logbook function then PLEASE TELL ME!!
If not then can someone please write a little app that logs time, date, start mileage, end mileage etc. So I can throw away my MN4.3 MN5.0 and MN6.2 and be happy.
Guess what - I hate it - IMHO don't bother with it!!
Dear All i just need to know what the best program GPS (tomtom.igo,germen...etc)

finaly some one answer me , i was use IGO but was hard to me so i was look someone expirt can recomanded us
Love Garmin XT - pretty close on accuracy to my standalone. Very quick it pretty much finds everything. Has ability to direct call found places. The only issue with most phone GPS programs is they suck the battery dry pretty quickly.
I have TomTom 7.917.9186_vga_black ver, Garmin, IGO all in my sd.
Frequently use TomTom, simply b-coz of its custamizability ( voice, map colour, car, poi etc.)
BUT all three works well in my TP.
You better ask " best gps navigation Program"
There are more good gps programs other than navigation.
Used them all....
I've personally used them all, and I find TomTom to be the fastest and most reliable. It just eats away at your battery.
Maybe its just me ;-)
igo is great
hi all
i think no one know what the best program navigator can use
i was use IGO before and i will try to use TOMTOM
i will post feedback to who concern
i use garmin xt and igo8 ... but tomtom is good too. u have to try and see what fits u the best
tomtom or ndrive.
Both work for me.
If cost is no concern, I stand by TomTom being the best... But only if you pay for the monthly subscription on top of the software cost.. The live traffic with rerouting you... gas prices around where you are is very convient too (and yes, I know that Bing and otehrs do this too), newer version do that cool 3D buildign thing that igo does (but TomTom doesnt; crash every 5 min)... TomTom has all the cool voices to direct you (I personally love C3PO "You have reached your destination master" in the english accent ) It also has this cool feature that if you buddy has tomtom as well, and say you are at a concert to fair or some other large outdoor thing.. you can both turn it on and in teh "buddy" area you can both update your live position to eachother so you can meet up... I also find this handy when traveling to things with my family.. we each have tomtom on our phones. You can controll what POI's are displayed, and even download updated POI packs for free right though the TomTom software as long as your phone has an internet connection... You can get car Icons ro repalce the "you are here" arrow thing on the map... you can even take a picture of your own car and just edit the background out (but if you look online.. people have already taken pics of many many cars, I am sure you can find your right make/color . the driving map is a nice 3D style, which I find a lot easier to navigate than the Google maps or Bing... There is a Daytime/Nighttime button in the menu that changes all the colors on the screen to bright daytime or dark night time colors, right out of the box... you can custome either as well...
Sorry to ramble, but you get the point... While TomTom doesn't do much that you can't find in another program, it does all the best things in just 1 prgram instead of having to decide which of 2 or 3 other ones to use because you have to travel across the state, find some address you never been to before in a strange city.... You get hungry along the way for mexican food, on the way back you need to get gas and want to know what is the cheapest price that is along your route that you are traveling... TomTom just works, and is nice.
garmin xt FTW !!!
IGo is the best
i am from the tomtom gang
Garmin, chinga su madre!
GPS Software for Fuze
I've used Garmin XT since it was v4. Frankly, on my Fuze the 3d view lags (the 2d view does not) such that I typically pass a turn 10-20 seconds before it shows my car at the turn's location on the screen. However, the voice prompts are dead on.
Recently, I purchased CoPilot Live v8. It's a good bit less expensive and there is no lag that I can discover. It is not as feature rich as Garmin XT -- Garmin offers free live traffic updates; CoPilot does not. But CoPilot has a Live Search like Garmin's Google Search. And it finds fuel stops just as well.
I must say that so far I prefer CoPilot's UI. Finding a location is simpler by a few keystrokes. And it shows upcoming POIs clearly enough -- and with icons that are big enough -- that you can click on the screen and get more details in a popup.
I'm not sure that CoPilot's maps are any better -- or worse -- than Garmins' yet. I've read that CoPilot's maps are not as accurate, but I have yet to experience it personally. I'll know more after a few upcoming trips.
Even so, I'm not taking Garmin off my Fuze just yet.

The choice will very much depend on the quality of maps, available for your area. You would have little use for a good navigation software if the map it uses is very basic.
I have used them all. I really liked IGO but the one i find most reliable is Tom Tom. Good luck
I use a free app called Waze.
I'm wondering what GPS Navigation app is best for Manila, Philippines. I badly need help with directions, and Google Navigation doesn't work here yet.
Any suggestion free/paid (preferably free, but I doubt there's one)?
been searching for something like this as well.... nothing yet. our only hope is to get garmin to release software for the android (since they are releasing the garmin phone soon anyways). i believe only garmin has maps for manila... but even these are probably not official since the garmin website doesnt indicate that they have maps of the phillipines.
Yeah. I have a Garmin device, but I haven't seen a good enough map. I think, there are good maps out there, though.
I hope, we can extract that GPS navigation app from Garminfone
Sygic has maps for Metro Manila only for the Philippines.
Im also searching something like this... software that could support Malaysia map... need a free one... had anyone tried IGO for android?
Kumusta mga kapatid, now I'm not sure if this does include Manila, I was too lazy to read through this thread, all I know is that its supposed to be international navigation, so its worth a try.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
The best Garmin maps for the Philippians are free and located here http://roadguide.ph/Download.html#
Will install fine on a Garmin nav only device, winmo, symbian, etc but do nothing for any Android phone that doesn't run a gmapsupp.img, which is every Android except the Garmin ones, at this point.
i've been using the google maps navigation hack for use outside of USA. currently been driving in singapore and I use it quite frequently and it works like a charm. you may want to give that a try.
As long as you can find a suitable map file motonav will use it.
wow
wil try this.. hope this works on my diamond..
Use Garmin Mobile XT
Mga Pre!!!
The best GPS application I am using right now is Garmin Mobile XT.. Its really cool on my HD2 and i found updated maps for Caloocan area, every streets are updated.. Im also enjoying it here at jubail City KSA.. 3 Thumbs up!!
Sygic Mobile Maps
I have been using Sygic Mobile Maps 10 on my N1 for a couple of weeks now. It has a map just for Metro Manila, so just like MapKing the map area turns black as you leave the Metro Manila area.
I find it pretty accurate for Manila navigation.
Hello,
Please do share where you got your 'hacked' google maps navigation' and/or how you installed it. Looking forward to your reply. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, that hack won't work if Navigation isn't available for your country yet. I'm on CyanogenMod, and this allows me to run Google Maps navigation, but because there's no data for my area (Metro Manila, Philippines), I still can't use it.

can you give me link for garmin mobile
using papago .
sent from my satellite , s6xmeup
by using the Navdroyd, i get an accurate navigation in manila area and even outside of metro manila
try Navitel v3.5 or v5.0 (for Android), roadguide.ph had given a standard Philippine map on Navitel users, similar map being used by Garmin softwares. Works great on my GT P1000.
will google navigation work in manila? It sounds like the maps will load but will the navigation work?
Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere, my internet is not great currently. Can you load tomtom on the HD7? I have read somewhere that it comes with tomtom maps and you pay a premium for turn by turn navigation.
Any ideas?
Thats for the Desire HD, Not HD7, since the TomTom for HTC is using the HTCSense Android navigation app
So there currently isn't a turn by turn navigation app for wp7? Bugger.
There seems to be one: Navigon select
(it's delivered with the HTC Mozart (T-Mobile Germany) on November 3.)
http://translate.google.de/translat...1828,25199-_,00.html&sl=de&tl=en&hl=&ie=UTF-8
No current GPS works so it's encouraging to see that Germany will have something in November, meaning the companies ARE working on it. Won't be long now.
Well I read at Pocket Now that turn by turn navigation may appear in the January update...
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/windows-phone-7-update-in-january-may-bring-turn-by-turn-gps
Of course, at the moment this is just a rumour, but it would seem foolish for Microsoft to ignore an opportunity like that considering Google are pushing it for free on Android...

That probably true as most other smart phone OS have this feature and so they will probably add it soon to catch up with other OS like Android.
Bing Maps for WM6.5 supports turn-by-turn navigation. The questions is not IF rather WHEN Microsoft gonna add it for WP7 as well.

Neither Google or Bing Maps support turn by turn in the UK on WM6.5 so I'm not holding my breath for the WP7 version. Would be good if it did.
Copilot is also being very tight lipped about WP7
Well, I am not sure about Bing, however Google Maps Navigation (on Android) works perfectly in UK and it is quite good. Actually I've never tried Bing, since for WM there are plenty of really good third-party offline navigation software. I do not think we will see the same quality for WP7 soon.

Neither worked on WM 6.5 using the Energy ROMs, but it is good to hear that they made it to the Android version in the UK so there is hope if Google release Google Maps for WP7.
I emailed co-pilot asking them about their product on Windows Mobile 7, this was their reply:
Thank you for contacting CoPilot Technical Support.
Unfortunately we have not tested the latest Windows Phone 7 as yet, We are planning to test it in the near future, but unable to tell you exactly when it will be released.
If you have any further questions, or feel that this incident has not been resolved to your satisfaction, please do not hesitate to bring this to our attention.

CoPilot Technical Support
lol. The CoPilot answer really cheered me up. How pathetic
GPS should be free, MS needs to step up. Android, nokia etc offers free voice navigation. This is the only one I hate about my phone.
give it some time, bing worked well for wm 6.x, let's give them an update or two to get Bing for wp7 to have a chance to get updated.
I was riding home today and thought of a few reasons I could see why it wouldn't work as launched, I didn't write any down because I was driving, but many had to do with power management, and the way the interface is currently setup, minor things that may have taken extra time to get tweaked so they just work, rather than feeling hacked-together
I'm just slightly worried that if Microsoft do bring Bing GPS Navigation, whether it will be restricted only to the US again as in the UK, we were unable to use the Bing GPS Turn by Turn Navigation on Windows Mobile 6.x!
Because if that's the case, us Brits will still be left with NOTHING and no alternative!!
The Navigon product proves it is possible, I guess other firms may wait to see how much take up there is of WP7 before they commit development resources, or maybe they have something in the pipe now, or maybe Microsoft will release a Bing Maps turn by turn product

I agree. Not ALL parts of the world have superb internet access specially when you're off the city. I mean GPS and internet shouldn't be packaged.
Even if Bing maps and google maps ARE for free. With slow data connection and you're on the road, you will 100% miss your turn before your map appears on the phone. That's just silly.
I miss my GMXT on 6.1
Surely you guys are just using the Satnav solution you used before you purchased your WP7 phone? I still use Tomtom on my HD2 in the car, and bing maps on the HD7 on foot.
It's not that hard, and will do until Satnav eventually makes it onto WP7.
If the lack of satnav is a dealbreaker for you, you shouldn't really have bought an HD7.
