sry to post this, its prolly a dumb question. but i cant seem to find a straight answer in the development forum. so is ASOP 2.3.2 stable?
Flash it and find out.
Here is a more helpful response than that above:
http://romrepo.info/wiki/index.php?title=What_Works
From that page and the discussion thread, people are having issues here and there. GPS and youtube viewing seem to be a common problems. Besides that, it seems pretty good
thanks, looks like its stable minus the ability for wifi tethering
The built in wifi tether doesnt work but the one on the market does.
The ASOP GB has been more stable on my phone then any other build sense the ones Fresh did last year.

Hell, more stable than anything I've run on my phone.
I really want to flash it but I'm S-On and I'm afraid if recovery craps out on me then I'm screwed.
On top of that I've never done the SD card partition thing and want to read up a little more on it before I take the plunge

If you follow the instructions (or just fastboot erase instead of flashing Clockwork), you will be fine. You HAVE flashed a custom rom before, right? It's pretty easy..

Laggy? For real? Can i have some of those drugs?!?!
Hahaha but seriously did you wipe before installing froyo? Of all the things I've seen and experienced with it, lag is def not one of them.
You would need to downgrade (flash an older version) your radio (assuming you flashed a froyo update.zip that had the newer radio) since the froyo radio does not work with cyanogens rom.
Then, wipe and flash cyans rom + google apps.

I would say with 99.99999% confidence the bugs and lag you are experiencing is from not wiping first. Assuming you were coming from cyanogenmod, flashign a "stock" rom ontop of an existing custom rom is most likely going to cause you nothing but problems!
Radio was packaged with the OTA (over the air) update and with the original link from the post above (to paul's froyo rom). An update.zip contains any number of things (whole os, patches, radio) and scripts to do those.
The radio is what lets your phone talk over wireless signals (to cell towers, wifi access points, etc (note, this is an extremely dumbed down definition, I know)). Radio updates can often times improve reception/signal.
Thank you for your explanation so i will try and wipe and then flash the rom in the link.
although i still miss color trackball, wake on trackball and other cm stuff lets hope 6.0 isnt to far away

first off this a tech demo and not a stable day to day use rom. You will not be able to use this normally on the phone (reagular reboots and instability) it was simply a taste of gingerbread for some devs here. I would highly recommend not flashing especially since you aren't really experienced yet. You should flash one of the many stable roms in the dev section, but if you insist on it, here is the thread for it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887037
i tried dling this rom and installing from clockwork recovery as a zip and it says it installed and takes me right back to the original rom i started with. also is there a kernel i should flash to make things more stable. thanks

I'm pretty sure you have to flash the 2.3 kernel for it to boot into gb. But as joeshmoe said, it isn't a good idea if you aren't experienced (I bricked a capivate trying to get this to work, seriously, it isn't a good idea). There's plenty of great froyo roms out and some nice gb themes, I'd recommend just taking that route.

Don't flash it. Seriously. Codeworkx/Coolya were digging through the source, and the nexus s kernel source has differing voltages than the galaxy s. ie, it can actually destroy parts of your hardware. Wait a couple of weeks, the rc for CM7 should be out by then.

well i dont plan to use the rom long term just wanted to flash to it and mess with it then probably switch back to a froyo rom shortly after. but having an issue getting it to run. if i download a kernel with voodoo and run the lagfix to ext4 then flash the rom should that get it up and running?
edit: went ahead and flashed perception and then the rom, reboots constantly, so looks like ill go back to perception and tough it out with a gingerbread theme. Gonna miss that lock animation.... ok now anyknow know how i get back to recovery mode, or do i have to flash back to stock? and reroot?
edit2: dont flash this rom, waste of time, just play with your friends nexus S, back to serendipity

No you didn't follow them EXACTLY. The installation is designed so that errors can't occur if the user does it properly. Are you using CWM?
Well since you think you're so god damn perfect and that you couldn't have made a mistake you obviously don't need our help. Obviously it must be a problem with MIUI
If you just want a faster phone, you should try just running JVB stock. That is by far the fastest ROM I've tried so far. And yes; I've tried MIUI.
And if you want it even faster you should try CF 3.1.

you could try the insanity ROM. I'm a noob too, and even *I* managed to get it to work, with no problems... and it's fast.
I have a major headache here. I flashed the latest dalingrin OC kernel (5/13) and it would hang on startup. So I tried to use a nookie froyo image on a sd card and get back into ROM Manager and use CWR and try to reinstall everything. Well now its stuck in boot loop on the touch the future screen. I'm reading everything I can but I'm so confused. How can I get into CWR again so I can re-flash everything? I am trying to do the bootable CWR sd card thing but I can't get it to work and I'm really getting frustrated at this whole "img" thing, I can never get it to work. Anysuggestions. and yes I'm still reading...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227 if you haven't yet.
I'm almost in the same boat. I was running stable 7 and decided I wanted Dal's new kernel and figured I'd at least upgrade to 7.03 stable. I was in the reboot loop and now I can't get it to display anything past the "touch the future" screen.
I've formatted the system, data, cache, and installed from scratch with cm7 stable (and tried a nightly too), along with gapps and Dal's latest kernel.
Might just have to leave out the kernel this time and see if it works.
Update- I got mine working with leaving Dal's kernel out. I might just flash the 4/24 now instead or just wait til he puts out something a little more solid than the 5/13.
Dal, if you're reading this, not knocking on you. Thanks for all the work you put in. I have loved having the 1100 kernel.

The 5/13 kernel is NOT for current stable or nightly builds. It's for exclusive use in the Beta 3 CM7 rom at the moment and requires the use of the 1.2 u-loader (read forever).

You still don't understand. 5/13 is rock frickin' solid if you flash it with the correct BETA ROM.
If you flash the 7.1.0 Beta3 found in the CM7 developers thread with the 5/13 kernel you get CM7 as it should be.

except for the renewed sleep of death issues and the spontaneous reboots and the occasional lockups, that have been repeatedly reported, it is a fairly solid beta test build. But it is a development beta test build after all, and very cool one at that. If people choose not to test it that's cool too.

Sorry, I meant to say until the beta is stable. As 12paq has stated, it's not stable enough for me to give it a whirl. I know that it is a lot better though when it's working.
For me, I'll sit this one out for now. Maybe I'll get bored next weekend tho and mess with it.
I still don't get the uloader thing will that need to be changed BEFORE flashing the .32 builds or will flashing those builds take care of that automatically?

I'm also curious. I ended up in the boot loop after trying to use Kernel Manager after updating to 7.0.3 using ROM Manager.
Came here to see what was wrong. Kernel Manager said it was flashing the 4/x version but I guess it was flashing 5/x. I just downloaded and manually flashed the 4/x kernel linked about and now it's working again.
What will I need to do when this CM7 build is final?
I believe, you can use the 1.2 bootloader file for stable, nightly or beta. But for beta which uses the new .32 Kernel, the newer 1.2 bootloader is needed. The new kernel was written from the .32 source and needs the new bootloader to play nice. Only OC test kernels run with the beta test builds.
It has been implied that after the beta is thoroughly tested by us guinea pigs, the devs will incorporate the new kernel and its really cool improvements into the normal builds.
The beta with the new kernel is smoother and faster, WiFi drivers are better and it reaches deep sleep, so battery life is better. But it's still a test beta so it's not perfect yet, for some.
All above is my interpretation, correct me as/if needed..

It is possible to read and get incomplete information from the threads. I read that line about the kernel not being for use with the stable mod but it also says you're OK if your NC boots with "Read Forever". Well mine boots this way so I thought I was good to use the 2.6.32 kernel.
So instead of trying to belittle people, how about being a little more helpful? Not all of us are IT people.
yeah things actually got more complicated recently, in addition some of the older test kernels needed script edits too..

No problem dude. Believe me I get where you're coming from. I'm a big home theater guy and hang out at Audioholics. I admit I get bugged when noobs come in asking the same questions about what speakers should I get? Is this amp any good? blah, blah, blah. I just tend to ignore those guys though.
I know I an nowhere near qualified to be rooting my Nook. That's why I paid a local guy to do it for me for $25. I think it was a bargain as I now have a kick-ass tablet PC for $275. Many thanks to CM and XDA!!!
But I just had one issue, the sleep thing and installing the new kernel seemed like an easy proposition. Turned out that it was quite as simple as I thought. I have since gotten the 5-15-11 kernel installed but my battery still seems to be wearing down at the same speed. Not sure if the sleep fix isn't part of this kernel.

Yes one that works on the Atrix 4G because the Nexus ones are for a GB device if I am reading correctly. I've tried just flashing those (Stupid I know) and no result. I've tried swip-swapping some stuff around and Iv'e come to the conclusion I cannot do this myself with just the froyo rom, the apks and nottach to mess with.
Both of those versions (this one and this one) work on JB and above only (one is for 4.1, the other is for 4.2).
As you noticed yourself, Kyler's stock Froyo does not contain it, and I was unable to find a version that works on Froyo. Where did you find one for Froyo?

One of his links takes you to a thread with a few posts. The last post has a download link.
I get that we have a froyo version based off of his searching, and that we do have JB versions based off of experience with epinter's ROMs. I don't know about GB or ICS versions, but he's definitely looking for the GB version.

It was in Kyler's Froyo settings, The APK is not there but the item is in the settings and fully customizable.
Well I'm trying out CM 10.2 right now but having a flashable version could work well if I switch back.
I examined Kyler's Froyo. Sadly it seems this functionality has been hardcoded into Settings.apk and BlurPhone.apk.
Ahhh, it seemed like that when I tore it apart.
I just examined the latest AT&T firmware (2.3.6) and I found the same thing therein. That means the same functionality should exist in the latest official GB as well?
I can't test this myself, I'm running a custom ROM and I don't really want to reflash now, plus to my knowledge none of the networks here offer cell broadcast.
I know florida has it, Due to ya know, all the high emergency weather and dangerous child kidnappers
