[Q] Darky's ROM, back button not working properly... - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I flashed darky's ROM last night using the resurrection edition with version 9.2.
All works great except the back button now functions the same as the home button. This is extremely annoying as you can probably imagine.
All other buttons function as they should and this is the only issue i've seen so far.
Has anyone experienced this? Do you know anything i can do to fix it?
I noticed it was like this as soon as i flashed the base ROM.
Cheers for your help!
Doug

hey try this.... extract it and install the app. it will let you remap the buttons and you can select what actions the button does.... easy fix

Great idea but...
...I actually made a dumb mistake and had used the captivate version
Oh well I'll not do that again ha ha! I'm new to this malarky (that's my excuse anyway)
Darky's ROM working great now! Has given my Galaxy S a new lease of life
Thanks anyway azzledazzle

Hi guys,

Alex

Darkyy's Q&A

Darky Q&A
It seems that a pinned Q&A for Darky is missing here.
I have been using Darky 8.1 and just recently decided to give 9.3 a try. One of the things I have liked about Darky is that that the version of 2.2.1 on it supports bluetooth voice dial. I have a BlueAnt S4 in my car, and although it does not voice dial 100% perfectly, it's still worth using. (the rest of the 2.2.1 roms I have tried that do not support bluetooth handsfree)
Okay, here is my question: on Darky 8.1, going to Settings - Display - Wallpaper -Lock screen wallpaper - Gallery ... would result in->
Sorry!
The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
[Force close]
I seem to remember the initial update to 9.0 (or 9.1) listed that this was fixed. I just got 9.3 running last night, and this still results in a force close. Does Darky have a forum to post this kind of thing, where the developers might see it?
swype
Okay, Swype just expired.
"Your trial period has ended. Please upgrade your copy of Swype."
I am on Darky 9.3 extreme captivate edition. Any fix?

Same problem here, also on Darky 9.3 extreme cappy. I've tried reflashing the captivate swype file, restoring a previous back up, and installing the newest beta. No dice on all 3 accounts.
This doesn't seem to be a problem with just Darky though, and poking around the site it doesn't look like it is exclusive to the Captivate either.
Darky's 9.3 phone not receiving calls
Once again I would have posted in Darky thread in android development if I could..
Ever since I have installed Darky's my phone has had problems receiving calls and will often say "simcard removed from phone please reboot". Today I got a new simcard because I thought that may be the problem but I tested and it still doesn't work. My friend rung me and as the call comes through my phone loses service and the call gets cut instantly and slightly later it'll pop up saying simcard removed please reboot phone. Is anyone else having this problem? Maybe it's time to go to Cyanogen Mod..
Did you ever restore data with Titanium Backup after you installed Darky's?
Yup I restored everything that was on my old rom Cognition
That's your problem. I used to have the same problem. Your phone settings is different between the two ROMs. You should typically ONLY restore app data. Not the system data.
Try going into back into TiBu, then find 'Phone' and click on 'Wipe data'. Hopefully that'll make your calls work again. If not, you might need to reflash Darky's.
System data backups really don't work well between different ROMs (and even different versions of the same ROM).
P.S. Nice to meet another NZer btw.
Oh I see, yeah that makes sense, I asked a friend if I should restore everything I backed up and he wasn't sure so I just restored them all anyway. Now I'm not sure if I should reflash Darky's or move to Cyanogen Mod.
I would try the 'Wipe data' thing first before I try any flashing though!
Upgrade from 9.2 to 9.3 help
In the dev thread, it says you should flash a captivate kernal and modem before installing 9.3. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a guide to flashing modems/kernals.
Just kinda worried cause I have read so much about people bricking their phones when putting the wrong kernal/modem combo together. I noticed on the Darky app it has options already there, so do I have to downlad the kernal seperately, or did it come with the app, or does the app download it from somewhere?
I am afraid that if I flash the modem first, then reboot it won't match the kernal and I will get stuck.
Thanks!

You can flash a Modem in Recovery just like you Flash a ROM or Kernel. If you happen to Flash a wrong Modem it won't cause any problems other than you won't get Cell Service. I am presently using the New znkp1 modem and it doing Great on my Cappy with 9.3 Darky and SuckerPunch/Voodoo Kernel.

Just letting you know that in the Darky Rom Configurator App, if u enable LockScreen Wallpaper, it would use Samsung Gallery which has a battery draining bug. Hence it is an option in the Darky app before flashing.
If you really want to use it, enable it and then flash. Or I'll just work on disabling that menu option.

Don't know if I'm too late on this but...the modem/kernel combo included has been working good for me; no need to change it. Like rickysa2000 said, don't select a modem/kernel using Darky's Configurator when you flash 9.3.
My only SMALL issue has been when going into APPS and sometimes they won't scroll for maybe two/three seconds.
But it's still my favorite ROM so far (though it's only my fourth). Especially impressed with the dev's attitude and willingness to help!!!
[ROM] Darkyy's 10.0 Gingerbread!
I was just in the i9000 forum and Darkyy said he will have a flashable rom on friday!!! I hope we can get this ported for the Cappy.
Edit: looks like beta 3 is already available for the i9000. Got so excited I impulse posted...

i do not think the port will be coming anytime soon. Without source you can not have a captivate kernel. You can flash i9000 but no back button, and screen rotation, head phone jack, etc
MIUI

[Q] hard keys going on and off on my p1000

Hi, i just put in the overcome 7 version 4.0.0 rom on my gt-p1000 .
Now i notice that the hard keys come on and then go off , even when the tab
is in sleep mode (it is an intermittent problem so far)......is there anyone out there with the same problem after upgrading to the overcome 4.0 rom?
Is there anything i can try to stop my tab from doing this .....or is it okay to just leave it like that ...thanks for your answers in advance...keep up the good work!!
it is coused by this file : lights.s5pc110.so , which you need to replaced by older version.
It's called Back light notification and it's a gingerbread feature.

CM 7 - hello hello bug -- any fix?

Hello Everybody,
I am having an incoming call issue even with JVT modem.
The fact is: intermitently the caller doesn't hear hear me when I pick up a call.
Workaround used: hold/unhold the caller and then I hear perfectly well.
Has anybody found a fix for this? (I am already on JVT modem).
Thanks in advance,
Same Problem ...Waiting for the right solution
Hi ,
I am facing the same problem on my i9000....with CM7 ...MIUI....or ICS build (CM9) ,tried and tested different modem's but no success....I hope there is someone to help us out ...
First thing is when this happens try to hold and unhold the call.
If you use custom kernel download voodoo control app and in recording presets set it to original.
That is the workaround.
Hi Malcho..
Thanks for your suggestion , i have tried setting preset to ORIGINAL in voodoo control app when i was in ICS by Teamhacksung ....but that didnt work out too ...
same problem i am facing in MIUI and cyanogenmod
me too
up up!
same here...fugu mod kernel + voodoo control app recording preset to original = same issue.
Did I miss anything?
Same problem for OneCosmic Rom
I was facing the same problem in Build 9 of teamhacksung.. went back to CM7 and everything was fine again.. then tried Onecosmic's ICS and now MIUI.. no such problems.. so that was in CM9 only I guess and maybe it's been resolved in the later builds don't know..
See comment 31
code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=4681
Edit: Reply if this works for you + what rom and kernel you are using
"hit THANKS if i helped you"
hello,
Thanks a lot for that.
I will test it next week and let u know the result. (Have installed ICS for the moment).
Had this a while back, all i had to do was move the phone away from my ear so the screen will light up and its back to normal
Tried everything..
Flashed hhb_test2.zip , different modems , voodoo control app.... Nothing works till now..
Its fine only on stock rom..
Any comments guys?

[Q] Menu button not functional [ICS]

Hey dudes, just installed the teamhacksamsungs ICS rom which is AWESOME btw!
Now to the issue, since my menu hardware button is broken i've been using a app called ButtonRemapper which remapps the hardware buttons. It worked flawlessly on gingerbread roms, since it needs root access i need permissions from superuser, anyone knows how i could get it to work?
Sincerely..
EDIT: Superuser doesen't ask for permission in ICS but it does in Gingerbread.
This sounds like you have flashed the wrong kernel for your phone.
What model is your hardware? It may not yet be supported.

Is there a Captivate/Vibrant version?
A captivate build from the same source (but with captivate config) is available here. We currently lack a developer/maintainer for Vibrant.
Does this work for I9000B?
No, the I9000B requires a different kernel configuration. A build for I9000B may be added later in the process.
If you are infact on the right kernel, then suggest Odin flash to Ficeto's XXJVT base rom from the DarkyRom website (beta section), flash to CM7, then flash to ICS again.
Good luck.
I've got an i9000 international since i'm from sweden, any more suggestions?
build 10 has a bad version of su. There's a fix in the hacksung ics thread.
i had the similar problem when i flashed MyICS the menu button didnt work i just re-flashed and it started to work again
Okay, the menu button is broken, physically.
That's why i need it to work
Anyway, do you guys think i'm capeable using ICS without any home button?

There's a market app that emulates a home button with an overlay on screen button...can't recall the name of it though.
Only downside with a broken button is no three button recovery/download.

[Q] Home button does not work

My home button does not work on FireKat rom but it does work on DynamicKat rom. What could be the reason ? Thanks for your reply.
