[Q] Nookie Froyo - Fresh install - market connect fails.... - Nook Color General

I have a Nook Color running 1.1.0 autonootered (not sure that it matters) and I've been playing with the SD version of Nookie Froyo for the last few days.
Two days ago I was able to create a SD card with Nookie Froyo, load the Google Apps connect to my Google account, sync with my Google Calendar and download apps from the market. I also played with remapping the volume keys and other stuff to a point where I started to get a lot of "Force Close" messages. The system was too unstable to I decided to rebuilt the SD card from scratch.
I used the same Nookie Froyo image I used before, loaded it on the same SD card as before using WinDiskImager and it boots with no problem. Then I load the Google Apps through adb using the same Google Apps image as I used before and the SD card boots fine with all the Google Apps there.
I can connect using WiFi and browse the web through the browser.
But when I start the market and try to connect to my Google Account, it spins for a couple of minutes and I get a "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server." error.
I tried to force close and wipe the data of both the Market and the Google Service Framework, the reboot, still not good!
I did a lot of research and stumble on this thread and followed the suggestion to install the Maker Enabler app, faked a T-Mobile operator and bingo! It worked.
What gives? Is Google playing around with the Market and is not letting "un-authorized" devices connect?

I am having the same problem with a fresh install of honeycomb. I tried the ME fix and now I am getting a problem with that app too. When I try to enable t-mobile i get Houston we have a problem... Thanks for this post. i didn't even think about ME until this post.

I'm having the exact same problem on a honeycomb install. When searching the forum, there seem to be others with the same question.. no answers though. Most of them in the last day or two.
I'm thinking it may be a market issue that will hopefully resolve itself... Anybody know?

Trying Market enabler now (must be rooted i think) First round didn't work. Trying again.

Maket Enabler worked for me. Took a couple tries but its working finally!!! YAY!

Working on this issue. Looks to be a location issue. What exactly did you set in Market Enabler to have it work correctly?

Froyo may try on HC later but for now everything is working no FC even gtalk and google voice are working

Newbie question...
I'm used to installing APK's by copying to the device, and using a file manager like Astro to tap the apk, open in the installer.
Without market, I don't have astro installed. So how do I install the ME APK?

That worked on my NookieFroyo!! Thank you!
Now, for my HC Preview v4... which apparently isn't already rooted....
Btw, if I wanted it to be Verizon? just change the number and name in the above commands to be what Market Enabler shows when I run it from my phone?
EDIT: Worked on HC Prev v4 too!

That worked perfectly! Thanks!

Should this be documented somewhere on the Nookie Froyo "how to" page?
Sorry if this is a dumb question...

Market still not working Nookie Froyo
I have tried both methods above no luck. Running Nookie Froyo from sd.

[NEW] Android Market v2.2.6

For those of you who didn't already know, a new Android Market was released today! The Market was updated to v2.2.6. It will gradually roll out to different phones. Those of you who want it now can install it with this easy .apk file.
Download
Have fun!
I installed after deleting the existing market apk. It force closes every time I try to use it. I cannot move it or copy it to system apps. I can put it in either internal memory or on the SD card. I can accept market terms and start it but then it force closes. I tried clearing data, cache and rebooting but same force close every time. I did not delete market updater apk. Any suggestions? I have the original market reinstalled until I can come up with a solution.
Woah, that's a huge change. o.o
I recommend getting the sgs tools app from the market. It has this included now and you don't have to worry about sideloading or moving the apk with a file manager or adv commands. The new market is really nice.
This is my captivate. There are many like it buy this one is mine.
works on cm6.1 beta 3
Worked on Perception 8. Just copied it over to my sdcard and installed it using the normal installer. Thanks man! It looks awesome.

Looks/works well but where's the update all button? Does it only appear only when there are more than one apps to update?

New market seems like a step backwards in some ways. I can see the need to reduce the refund time, but 15 minutes is nuts. Also, removing the tabs? That's just a mess.
Bring the tabs back, and make refund time 3 hours, and I'm a happy guy.
I also think it's a step backwards in a lot of ways. Yeah, that nice green design header looks cool... but it dominates the damn screen. Annoying!

Update: Tried to go back to original version via SGS tools restore script and lost Market completely.
Reinstalled new apk via droid explorer and it reappeared, and now search functionality works as expected.

Yea... but you can scroll around and lose the header once you start browsing.
Didn't have any issues after installing it - search feature worked.
Just downloaded straight onto my phone and used the base installer (no droid explorer, astro etc..) and it worked fine.
Also you get the "update all" on the top button under your downloads if you have multiple updates - which I did
Thanks again for this.

Android Market.. please help

I have my new Nook Color rooted to 3.0. I was able to use the Market perfectly fine for quite some time, downloading over a dozen apps. However, now it's giving me all sorts of problems. The last few downloads failed. If I try to redownload them, I never get a notification. It's like it forgot about me. Then it said I needed to resign into Gmail, and even with a valid password, it said it was wrong. Magically, without entering a password, it started working again. However, I still can't download everything.
I've tried to clear the cache on the Android Market app, and restart, but nothing. Now Google Talk won't authenticate. Ughh..
Please help!
Protip. Honeycomb isn't ready to be used for nook.
I know it's not fully operational, but I also know there's a way to get the Market working again. That's all I need to know.
No idea if this works, you could try downloading and installing the Cyanogenmod GApps package (can't post a link...it's easy to find on the official CM website).
Be prepared to bork your installation and have to reinstall HC completely, though. In general, you shouldn't expect much luck from a hacked SDK build that is soon to be obsolete.
Honestly, after doing some research, I think it's Google Talk. Other Android users have the same issue. If Talk won't connect (authentication failed), then Market won't work. I haven't found a solution though to the problem.. still looking.
Ok, I'm done with 3.0, this is frustrating. What's the best way to go from 3.0 to an earlier version of Android like 2.2 or 2.3?
I am running nookie froyo 0.6.8 from SD card. My Market also wasn't working and my google talk aslo failed to authenticate. I clear the cache for the market and I cleared the google services framework data and it worked again. I also found that have my install from unknown sources enable wouldn't allow my market to load at all. It gave me errors. If anybody knows how to fix that problem please help me. Good luck!

One problem though, while it's at least trying to download and install now (and works on programs like Pandora), I can't get Angry Birds or AB Seasons to install. It always says it was unsuccessful. Any thoughts?

Can the system be set to download games to internal memory instead of the SD card, so that we won't have to pull the SD card out? Is that possible just wondering?
Um, how can you get away with pulling the SD card if you're running the OS off the card?
Market is broken for me...
Can anyone help me out with this Market not working?
I'm running stock NOOKcolor ROM v1.1 with AutoNooter (for root) and ADW launcher. Everything was working great for me and when I tried to install the latest Market the Market stopped working. It loads, and I accepted the terms and conditions, then it drops back to the home screen (launcher desktop). And each new time I load it, it drops back to the home screen.
I tried clearing cache, and data for the Market. I tried unchecking the USB debug, and Allow Non-Market Installs. I tried removing the microSD card. I tried reverting back to the old Market. I tried looking for the Google Services Framework, but could not find it under all apps. Nothing is working for me.
Any suggestions or tips? Anyone else having this problem?

Nook Color 1.2 Rooted

I restored to stock and update my nook color to 1.2.0. YAY flash works! This will properly root using nooter 0.2 This of course only enables adb so if you have to manually install all the programs you want. One downside if you like the stock launcher(user interface) is the installed programs do not show in the new 'apps' menu. Also, make sure you install nook color tools from the auto-nooter. Debuging does not stay on after you reboot and the program will enable you to do so. Also, you will need another launcher such as ADW to access your programs.
I have a rooted Nook Color with stock 1.1 Rom and clockworkmod recovery installed.
Will the new update be pushed to me automatically, or do I have to manually install it.
If I have to do it manually do I do it per the instructions on B&N website or some other way using clockworkmod recover?
I believe you have to do it manually. I read that you can do it with CWR. The person who did it said it froze or something on the first boot but a reboot fixed it. Search '[ROM 1.2] nook color' on xda for instructions thread.
I was wondering, once auto-rooters are released, will you still be able to use the apps you got from B&N? There are one or two I'd buy, but want to make sure I can still root and use them. Thanks!

i'd assume they'd be tied into your b&n account - similar to your books - you can redownload any of your books that you purchased previously.
edit: btw, thanks OP for the heads up on nooter 0.2 - i'm back to where i was at with autonooter and root with 1.1 (minus gapps, which i haven't played with yet)... a lot more tedious doing things manually. running adw launcher pro as my launcher.
good job thx!!
cannot feel more wonderful.

Although the apps from the nook market seem to be modified to be recognized by the nook interface, I still have the library and shop apps in my zeam menu. I don't think there will be a problem using and apps from the nook market on any rooted nook.
@everyone
Amazon market works, but I had to install the angry birds apk using adb. I read there are problems installing apk's bigger than 4M. I suspect this may have something do to with that issue.
I don't have market working yet but it looks like someone did it with a specific market version and nookie-froyo-gapps. It also looks like auto-nooter will be out soon. I will be doing manual because I'm very anal about not having unnecessary software on my devices.
Edit: Market is working if but it appears large programs still do not install. Here is a guide:
download nookie-froyo-gapps-20110207.zip (use google) & unzip
download Vending.apk & Talk.apk from this post http:// forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051235&page=11
Code:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblock0p5 /system
adb push nookie-froyo-gapps-20110207/system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk /system/app
adb push nookie-froyo-gapps-20110207/system/etc/permissions/features.xml /system/etc/permissions

Movie studio not installed?

I just got the 3.1 update for my Motorola Xoom OTA and everything seems to be working fine except for the movie studio app which seems to not be installed, I already tried the APK here which refuses to install, is there a more recent copy of the APK somewhere around?
Are you trying to start the application with the desktop shortcut ? Have you tried to start it with the shortcut present in the application drawer list ?

I had this issue ever since I first started messing around with my Xoom, I'm now on 3.1 and it was still borked but just do the following, because it solved my Books, Movie Studio and YouTube problems:
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Google Partner Setup and click on "Clear Data." Shut down your Xoom and turn it back on and you should be good to go.

Yes...I am on 3.1. The issue started since the OTA update.
So, I freaked out too because I had a desktop shortcut that no longer worked. I didn't even think to look in the app drawer, so I found a thread which posted the original 3.0 apk and adb pushed it to /system/app and then chmod'ed it to 644. It worked just fine, but then I noticed that I had 2 Movie Studio icons in my app drawer. So I went into adb shell in /system/app and noticed two files: VideoEditor.apk (which I installed from the download on the thread) and VideoEditorGoogle.apk.
So, in summary, I rm VideoEditor.apk from the /system/app directory and attached the VideoEditorGoogle.apk to the original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13890443&postcount=11
So, if you're still missing the Movie Studio, feel free to adb push this into /system/app and make sure to chmod 644 /system/app/VideoEditorGoogle.apk
i can't seems to see the video editor under my app drawer.
any ideas?
i am running on Xoom 3g UK (rooted).
i have chmod it to 644, still no luck.

[Q] Installing an apk w/out market

In the ongoing battle to not have the market crash on launch (rooted stock 1.3 running 4.6.16 and I fixed permissions with ROM manager) I've noticed that titanium backup seems to be a start for a few potential fixes. That said - I have to actually install the bloody thing and w/out market access that's proving tough.
I d'loaded the apk via. the built-in browser. It's on my SD card. But I can't seem to find any way for the built-in app-laucher to....well, launch. When I run the apk's from the browser I get 2 options:
Complete action (running apk) using:
* App Installer (which when clicked says it's unable to install and that I should archive then unarchive the app and try again)
* Package installer (which says there's a prob. parsing the package).
I've got what I assume to be non-market app's checked off in NC Tools (it's the blank box in NC Tools with nothing next to it that people talk about).
Any suggestions to get the bloody apk working?
Sounds like a badly packaged .apk. It also has that error whenever I try to install Honeycomb specific apps.

Do as Dizzy said or find another apk to install, if it keep crashing then try install some another ROM like CM7.

In the NC tools I do have what is supposed to be the non-market installs checked off (but with it being a blank box of text next to it, I'm not positive).
I guess it might be a bad apk, but I got it from the TB site directly. I tried ES File Explorer too. It would seem all apk's I'ev tried give the same error. I'm not sure if maybe B&N somehow hobbled the ability to install apk's with their 1.3 update.

I had CM7 on for a few days, but with the market not working well on it (market determined that the nook wasn't compatible with any of the apps, even with the LCD resize), and with a subscription to PC mag via. B&N I went back to stock rooted 1.3.
Any other suggestions? I was thinknig of trying MIUI if things in CM7 or the Nootered stock don't resolve themselves.

MIUI is just a themed outdated cm7. I don't see how that would help.
Can you get any .apks to install?

I just finished the Android SDK/Java route to push apk's to the NC. I've successfully installed Titanium, ES File explorer, Opera Mobile and SwiFTP to my NC via the SDK route. While I don't have market access, I guess it will be ok for now....I sure wish the Market worked properly though....nice 'n convenient. Ah well.
[EDIT] One thing I did try to get the market to work was uninstall Flash 10.3. I put on 10.2 & reset permissions. No dice for what it's worth....if somebody's keeping a list of things that don't work.

Interestingly, if I try to use the default browser to install appbrain (www.appbrain.com/install), or even Opera mobile to install it, .... it results in a flash screen (rotating flash dots in the middle) that crashes after a second....just like when I (attempt to) launch the Market.
