Is there a way to turn off internet calling on 3G in CM7? I just want to use it while on wifi and its getting very annoying with choppiness with 3G calls.

bump, i was a user of csipsimple and had it setup to only activate over wifi connections and i wanted to test the native sip client in gingerbread with those same settings. i prefer NOT to use sip over 3g or edge. thanks.
any idea yet.. i cant find ANYTHING!
Google AOSP source code allow SIP calls over wifi only.
In CyanogenMod, the wifi-only limitation is removed, allowing SIP calls over 3G, like in almost all other custom rom.
There is no option to change this in CM7 under " settings -> call settings -> Internet Call Settings -> Use internet calling : "
So, I don't think you can change it without modifying by yourself CyanogenMod's code and recompiling your own ROM, then flash it.
it would be great if there was an option to turn it on or off

thats not what I was asking. I have the ability to set up SIP in Settings -> CALL -> Accounts (under the Internet Call settings) and then -> Receive incoming calls
There is a check box to turn on and off, I want to know if there is a widget that will turn it on and off, like you can for WiFi.
I dont care about 3g/wifi.. right now with the Rom I have it works on both no problems.
I have the same concern. There is custom ROM, which is actually based on CM7, only supports internet call over WIFI. Is there any thing that we can do to disable the internet call over 3G, but leave internet call over WIFI enabled?
Thanks!
Now I am using CSipSimple instead of the CM7 built-in SIP client. The CM7 built-in SIP client only supports PCMU codec, which is not optimized for limited bandwidth. The latest version of CSipSimple supports G729 as well as full control of which type of wireless networks. And CSipSimple is free (G729 is optional, user suppose to pay for the codec).

Is there any way to disable the mobile network on the Nexus One?
On the HTC Hero there was an widget to set the mobile network on/off!
And in the system settings there was a checkbox, but on the Nexus One i dont find any of this...
i think your looking for apndroid
look for it in market
I've tried it but the mobile connection is not disconnected.
The apndroid changes the APN settings and add "apndroid" to it, but this makes no difference for me... the mobile connection is on and i am surfing
Is there no system setting?
how is dat possible? if the apn is called something else surely u cant surf using ure phone
goto the dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* and you will see settings there to turn off the cellular data connection.
no he's right, apn droid doesn't do **** on the n1. at least when I tried. and yes. i rebooted. don't know how it figures out the connection with apndroid appended to its parameters... what I do is just delete the APN's compeltely
So there is no way to disable the mobile connection from the system...
Very strange because on my HTC Hero there was such an option and widget.
I use Locale and want to disable the mobile connection in the night.
Flightmode is not usable for me because the telephone should ring, only the wifi and mibile connection should be off.
JuiceDefender has a home screen widget to disable the apn
Thanks but JuiceDefender has one added a Note:
Might not work on CDMA phones w/ Android 2.1
Very sad :-(

Has anyone been successful in setting up the native SIP client on a tab running gingerbread??
I am looking for someones experiences with this native VoIP client and also can you tell me what SIP Service Provider you used?
This link describes how to configure the Android native SIP client on gingerbread devices. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to explore these settings and post your results.

UPDATE: I just learned that the 'settings' menu for internet calls does not appear by default in gingerbread. Its been disabled on our SGTs. To enable you must copy a file to system/etc/permissions. Can someone here shed some light on this? Is this only true for the stock Gingerbread thru Kies download? thanks.

I use Overcome ROM RC1 with enabled VoIP in Settings->Internet calls.
My provider is iptel.org.
I have an issue with incoming calls over SIP. I can't answer. I think the problem is in original dialer by samsung.
I'm using the Overcome ROM RC2 where the SIP option is enabled.
It works well, although the lack of keypad during a call makes it hard when you run into an automated phone service and you can't enter any dtmf tones. I would guess this is related to the problem cromed has when trying to answer a call. (I haven't received a call so can't answer first hand)
My only other grumble would be the low call volume, but this is also the case when using fring or sipdroid.
Audio quality though, is great.
Hmm. Has anyone tried one of the SIP clients on the market on their tab? Such as 'sipdroid' or CsipSimple ? Can you post your experiences here please? thanks

I have used both Sipdroid and CsipSimple. Sipdroid is pretty basic but works as described. CsipSimple ate up my battery, and Sipdroid did until I switched to a PBXES account (uses TCP instead of UDP). PBXES is a pain to setup, but once you finally figure out how it works its fine. Used it to take my DX overseas a couple times with WiFi only (used a MiFi through XCOM Global), and have perfect voice. Need to use the Speex codec for 3G connections or else you get jitter or big delays; I use it for all connections though.
Just got the GB update on the DX and sad to see no native SIP client.
I now have a Polycom connected to PBXES for my home phone. Both are trunked through Sipgate.

Well, I just upgrade SGT-P1000N to stock Gingerbread 2.3.3, and VoIP does not come enabled. Found the permission file at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016583
UPDATE: Yep, it works. Just tested it. Works with Bluetooth headphones, yay!
It may prove my naivete to even suggest this, but I have wondered if it might be possible to sign in to a Skype account with this native dialer. Fields are limited to username, password and server. So it's that server address that eludes me.

Nope, Skype uses proprietary protocol, not SIP.
Sent from my SGT-P1000N - XDA App - Gingerbread!
I'm having the same issues as mentioned above on Overcome Gold. No way to pick up an incoming call. Outgoing call is fine but no keypad if needed.
Quality is very good.
Have tried Sipdroid, Csimple,...and other...but my prefered has been Linphone. Excellent quality.
But now I'm using GrooveIp. Work well with Google voice and allows you to make free phone call coming and outgoing.
It's a paid app..but cost $2.00 on Amazon...$4 on Google Market. YOu may have to adjust some settings to fine tune it...I had to do that.
I'd like to use the gingerbread native SIP client over 3g. Anyone know of a hack?
Thunderbolt GB
I'm currently using Csipsimple, Sipgate, Gv Callback and Google Voice. It's a real good setup, but I'd like to try the native Google SIP.
Hold on. I set up my sipgate account on the internet calling section. So what you are saying is that won't work over lte or CDMA and would need WiFi?

Kahnam,
I can't make or recieve a 3g call on the Gingerbread SIP client.
Can u?

Theres a thread in the modaco android forums about this that seems to have solved the issue, but it needs to be baked into a ROM..
(sorry I'd post the link but this is my first post and I am not allowed... im sure someone'll find it.)
I'm using the LeeDroid_HD_V3.3.3_GB-R5 rom on my Desire, running Gingerbread 2.3.3. I've set up the native sip to my voip provider account (where I have credit to make calls to pstn/gsm).
With this setup, I can make & receive calls from both Wifi and 3G.
I don't know if switching from Wifi to 3G while on a call would work flawlessly though.
I made a small manual on how to accomplish this on probably all GB roms including sense and miui:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354838
I wasn't able to find any info on this after searching. The phone app for the S10 doesn't appear to support SIP dialing. I'm able to add the additional "activities" for adding a SIP account however there is usually an option to "Receive incoming calls".
I will include the screenshots from the S10 and what the screen looks like from another Android device.
Is there a way for me to receive SIP calls on the S10 using the native dialer?
*Edit* I can't seem to directly attach images to my post. Typically this setting is accessed through the dialer by SETTINGS > CALLING ACCOUNTS > SIP SETTINGS
Any solution on this buddy?
I use apps

For SIP calling/receiving I use
- ancient (search not in PlayStore) CSipSimple, any Provoider
- Satellite fine monlithic app from Sipgate
FWIW: I do not even find SIP in settings on my XSF device.
I tried it once on a SONY but was underwhelmed with the functionality.
CSipSimple works with the providers I use. Satellite has very good quality of speech and is 100min free/per month.
Hi, I use this app (Google Market Link) since years to make calls and text messaging to/from US. With a Realme RMX3085 text messaging works but the Google Voice Wi-FI call doesn't. It just says "Your call can't collect". Calling from the same network from a laptop or another phone works.
Does Realme block VOIP, or is there some special setting that needs to be changes?
SIP is not blocked ... i'm use Grandstream Wave Lite as SIP client ... to some local and over-inet servers ... works flawlessly ...
here may be different google-related problems also as simple not allowed some permissions, connection, background usage ...
on old versions of android was internal libraries for sip calling ... may be that app related on them

Thanks for the reply. I have inserted a SIM card and it works. It works even if put the phone into airplane mode and enable just WIFI so I am sure it works over WIFI. Looks like some strange quirk of Google.
