CWM Recovery - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone do a simle step by step tutorial how to get the real CWMR to rooted RotoV4 custom rom? All Odin files and stuf or a update.zip than really works.
I have tryed few thinks posted here and ended up bricking my tab and had to flash Roto again and again.
I need this badly for flashing things!

Use the kernal by Chainfire (2.3 version) that provides CWM3. You flash the kernal with Odin, then you can use CWM3 to flash future roms and kernals.
He has careful instructions included. Let me know if you need anything else.

Where can i find this?

It is a thread in the devopment section. For anyone needing CWM3 this is the way to go!

I would recommend flashing Paulobriens MoDaCo kernel either with RFS or Ext4 file system.
You can get it in the Dev thread.
Use Odin without pit and repartitioning.
Read instructions because flashing might take two steps to install Cwm.
I like this kernel with Ext4 for speed.
Cwm recovery is fully functional.

Quoted for truth... Modaco's kernel has a flawless adaptation of CWM. I've successfully recovered from backups a number of times with it. So long as your tab is compatible then don't bother with other CWM kernels. It just works.

CF-root to Hardcore Kernal via cwm

Hi Guys, I currently have JPU firmware with CF-Root 1.3 kernal...
On Docs online kitchen, I can create an update zip with just Hardcores kernal...
Just want to double check after reading a few threads on the kernals etc..
Has anybody done this, from CF-root 1.3 to Hardcores k13 via a CWM flash?
Is it safe enough to do, I have a nandroid back just in case.
I gather I will not need to root again after flashing?
There's an app on the market called sgs kernel flasher that might be more suited to this. I'm not sure if the update.zip you can make from the ROMkitchen is designed for stock firmware.
EDIT
There's a CWM flashable version in hardcore's thread, why use the ROMkitchen one?
LOL, it totally missed that link???
So I have downloaded the cwm.zip, flashed it via CWM... booted ok... will see how this goes..

[Q] Custom ROM with custom kernel, few questions.

Hi! I'm planning to install custom rom on my sgs gt-i9000 by Darky (either 9.5 or 10 RC).
But Darky uses DarkCore as kernel, and I want to use speedmod kernel (as I understood this one of the best kernels out there).
What is the right process to install this?
Flash the kernel via odin (PDA right?) the use Darky's Rom Configuration with "Skip Kernel" and then use recovry to install the ROM?
Also can I stay with my current modem which is I9000XXJPY? I really afaird to flash the modem (and CSC).
One last question is how to backup my current kernel/modem/csc/rom?
Also as I understood I need to backup /efs right? Is there something else I need to backup (my contacts are saved on the sim card so I dont mind loosing those and I dont mind loosing my current applications and their settings).
Thanks a lot!
if you are not rooted, get rooted !!
download CF-Root, or speedmod kernel, flash it through ODIN and make a full nandroid backup. Also backup efs just in case your IMEI gets corrupted.
i have used speedmod kernel with older versions of darkys roms, but voodoo kernel is recommended.. But you can try which ever kernel you like, providing you know how to fix if something goes wrong.
you can skip modem in the darky app if you are happy with your current modem.
and once you install cf-root or speedmod you will be rooted, so download 'titanium backup' from the market and that will back up all your apps
1 last thing, i cannot emphasise this enough.. be sure you know how to fix a bricked phone before going ahead with the flash. i myself - along with many others - have had 'issues' with darkys roms.... I am not saying you will, but be careful and always have a current backup !!
DarkCore is based on Voodoo kernel right?

I dont know. What should I read?
Thanks!
yes it is
and read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
if you ever get stuck in a bootloop, boot into recovery do a factory reset.
if you have serious issues, boot into recovery, do a factory reset along with formatting, cache / data / system, then re flash.
if you have even more serious issues, then you need to boot into download mode and flash a 3 file stock rom with 512 pit and re-partition checked.
thats all there is to fixing a bricked phone. Always make sure 3 button combo works before taking on any sort of flashing.
Thanks a lot!!

[Q] Noob Darky's ROM 10.2 flashing question

I am currently running a stock XXJVQ firmware with Galaxian 2.1 kernel installed. I have a few backups to it made in CWM.
My question is - if I try to flash Darky's ROM, will I lose CWM and all the backups I made to my previous ROM?
Also - it says that I should have lagfix turned on before trying to flash Darky's ROM. I used the CF tool to convert all my rfs memory to ext4. I suppose that's the same as a lagfix, meaning that I already have my lagfix turned on, right?

your nandroid backups will remain intact, and just use cf tool to convert back to lagfix disabled(all on rfs) and you should be set to go....remember to follow darkys instructions to the word and then you should have no problems....happy flashing
Hi there,
I have the stock JVQ flashed via odin from samfirmware, I would really like to use this rom. However, I was following the steps documented on this link which was successful (I reverted back to the rom on this page just to make things simpler, and to ensure that there wern't going to be any glitches):
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-installing-stock-rom-gt-i9000-only.486/
and then started to follow this:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...rkys-rom-on-2-2-2-2-1-i9000-i9000m-only.1041/
However got to part 2, and the kernel flash didn't work (didn't get the dark core recovery part written on the recovery screen). So I clicked on the 'Alternate Method to Get Working Kernel' and the links dead!
Is there another method I can follow step by step, I currently have no root on the phone, but I can easily root using CF root if that helps, however previously I found no lagfix option! I'm completely a noob at this so any help would be appreciated...I want to try the rom that everybody's talking about
Many Thanks

If you flash 10.2 Resurrection Edition you don't have to worry about lagfix on or off!
It will give you a CLEAN, FAST phone.
From there you can install, tweak, modify to your hearts content!

As the above poster said, just flash Darky 10.2 RE instead. You can flash it with Odin regardless of the ROM you have before. Just follow the guide on this page:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/odin-darkyrom-10-2-resurrection-gt-i9000.4272/
does this rom work on m110s (korean I9000).. is there anyone who tested it?

[Q] Messed up - need an ICS tar kernel for Odin

This is the first time I've had this happen - see many others in similar situation but now it's me :-(
I was rocking the most stable, smooth and battery- life- loving setup of ICS ever on my i9000 after trying almost all of the Roms and kernels out there.
In the end the Elite7.1Beta worked amazingly for me and I set it all up just nice and really had no reason to start messing with it.
....So I messed with it (to get even better battery life) and flashed the B6 ICY Glitch kernel and then - bootloop.
So I need an ICS/CM9 tar kernel file (any with CWM recovery will do) that I can use to reflash the original Devil 15.1 kernel.
Believe me, I've searched and serched and simply cannot find a tar version of any of the main ICS kernels out there (glitch, semaphone, devil etc). Why are there no more tar files anymore? Am I missing something?
I've even tried extracting the kernel from boot.img using cygwin and a tutorial I found on the net - but being an untran00b I did something horribly wrong and now thank goodness I can still get Download mode.
So:
Can someone please let me know where I can find a .tar kernel for ICS/CM9 that I can flash with Odin? Or how to make one from a kernel .zip or boot.img file?
OR: Can I just flash a boot.img in Odin (doesn't look like it but just wondering?) I'v not tried that because I've messed this up enough already.
Any help greatly appreciated

well i was in the same situation and i didnt have ssdd48 to help me ..
try his method i have read that it works .. if not i believe there is a speedmod kernel which has a tar file google that
for me eventually nothing worked so i had to flash a gingerbread rom thru odin and start over .. good luck
Thanks for the replies guys. Managed to fix it in the end using Darkcore kernel which gave me working recovery (even though Gingerbread based) but really appreciate you linking me the recovery file ssdd48.
Cheers!
I have the same problem with B6!! But I use the ssdd48 way, and it works perfectly (really thanks), after that y flashed again B6 via CWM and it works fine.
I might be wrong but doesn't Heimdall support flashing boot.img?
Sent from my GT-I9000
Thanx man ! I've Been waiting for a fix reocery tar for ICS.

hey mate, when you flash a kernel you dont lose any data right? I only need to get into CWM because I get bootloops and then I will reflash semaphore kernel
should "auto reboot" in odin be enabled?

Interesting.
I just re-flashed the ROM via CWM.
It includes a kernel.
If that didn't work, I'd use the kernel cleaning script, and the re-flash the ROM.
Hi,
I tried to flash the datafix for CM9 but it got me into a bootloop (using semaphore 1.0.1s kernel).
I flashed this file to fix the recovery but from here things aren't going so well...
I tried to restore my nandroid backup - didn't work (tried to restore only /system though, but saw it failed).
then I tried to reflash CM9 (19.4 nightly) - failed.
then I tried to reflash the semaphore kernel - succeeded but now my phone is stuck on the "galaxy S gt-1900 screen" (I can get into the recovery though, the one included in the fix).
What can I do now? I can't even get my phone to boot...
Thanks!

Anyone?
Yes!
I was having the same problem, for 2 times now actually. The first time I had to go all the way back to gingerbread. Now it happened to me a second time, I searched again and found a solution.
I think the rescue .tar doesn't have the right CWM in it to install the ICS rom. I've found a Odin installable kernel with the right CWM, its here:

I hope this helps more people in this situation!

[Q] how to flash Unofficial_Semaphore_JB_2.9.13vc_c from Nick0703

Hi i have downloaded the Unofficial_Semaphore_JB_2.9.13vc_c kernel from the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136767
it's a zip, and my experience tell me normally if it's tar file, then it must be flashed by ODIN
and .zip is flashable by CWM
I wonder this time it's also the same case.
I donna brick my cappy, wish oyu guys to comfirm
THX
yes zip = cwm.
in case you need details . . .
you need to start, assuming GB stock rooted, by flashing the corn 7 kernel via usb with odin or helmdal, which will give you the CWM recovery that can flash zips., then follow the instructions to flash the cm10.0 stable zip, then follow the instructions for flashing Semaphore in the official thread.
start with reading the stickies in the captivate forums, then first posts in the Corn, CM10.0, and Semaphore threads in Capivate development forums.
read a lot before acting, and you won't brick.
thanks
I went a head to flash the kernel this morning.
It's very nice
