My Fiancée has a Sprint HTC Hero. I have spent some time going through ROM's available for her phone but haven't been able to find something I like. So I thought I'd post before I run out to do some errands and see what suggestions can be made for me. My situation is I am looking for the most stable ROM for her as I wont always be around when something happens. If that ROM could be sense based that would be best, if not, its not a huge deal. I also need blue tooth to work flawlessly so that she can sync it with her car. Battery life would be the next bonus, after that just a nice stable ROM that wont reboot while shes on the phone or crash whatever launcher its running. I'm not concerned about CPU scores or over clocking as anything with be faster than her stock phone. If if you have any questions for me, feel free to ask, otherwise I appreciate your responses.
sense based, stable....
Dude i'd probably say stay stock, In all seriousness. Most roms with sense have kind of stopped in terms of work done on them. the last rom i remember with sense was infinites 2.2 but that stopped for some reason and its not very stable [my own experience].
Just leave the phone as it is. If scores and stuff aren't important. I don't know if the last sprint update helped "a lot" with the dialer lag, but i'm just going off memory here.
So maybe I should post the goal, as stock is meh right now and I wish she would have got an Evo. However, when she got her phone the guy at Sprint mislead her some and pushed the Evo and 4G to hard and so she backed off and went with the Hero. (I was on a plane at the time) So now we want to get to Froyo so she can have more than 10ish MB of free space and isntall apps to the SDcard. Also increase her battery life as she is always sub 15% by the time she gets home from work. Plus just the general speed increase from Foryo and custom roms. So Id like to try something, I was just hoping people could say, yes xxxx's rom is pretty stable, bluetooth works and so on...
Ill prolly start with a Froyo Cyanogenmod and see if she can get by on a asop rom, and go from there.
Personally the stock sense was pita with dialer lag and other shannagins.
I would go with cm6 as for me has been very stable and easier to navigate than sense.
fresh roms were always stable for me. I tried liquid senses for a day and it seemed stable to me though some people say its sluggish
Zen my touch slide is a nice sense based rom, I've had my dads hero on it since he got it with no problems and that's saying something.

Ginger bread way to buggy for what hes looking for imho.
I have tried almost every rom available for the hero over the last 6 months and two of the most stable roms i have used thus far are Liguid sense odex, and aospmod 0.9.9.2. to me they have seemed to be the least buggy. Its all reference i guess, if you like sense go with Liquid's it is fast and gives you plenty of extra space for apps, and if you like froyo aospmod 0.9.9.2 is great.

Ah. Good point. I just noticed that my vid camera has got issues. Go for Dec31 froyo, or odex.
I'd use aosp gingerbread
I recently switched from cm6 to liquidsense. For someone who isn't a into technology, cm is just going to be overwhelming and cause.problems. liquid sense is very stable, fast, and lightweight. The only thing is its 2.1 based, so I dont know if that's a deal breaker for you.

I have a simple question - my daughter has Hero, very sluggish, so I am rooting to put SetCPU on it.
I am very familiar with roots and roms, running Epic, but have not kept up on Hero since kids are on stock.
Once I root, am looking at roms, how do I put rom on?
I'm looking at CW and that is too much for her. Stable Froyo is all she needs.
The threads are either old, or way too techy for what I need. I want to upload and give to her, not maintain nor get calls, have problems.
And leaving stock not a problem, I will add Wifi Tether, but want to be sure the battery holds up, most important need, on this.
Thanks

I am running CyanogenMod 6.2 the Dec31 Black version and have had no problems with it. This is a froyo rom. I will say that that wireless tether will eat up battery pretty quickly so i usually plug it in when I use the tether. At the beginning of each rom, there are usually instructions on what steps you should take to install.
Thanks, I will look for a link to read and/or download.

Generally, it's just download attached zip file, move said file to the sd card root, reboot to recovery, wipe data and dalvik, flash zip and reboot. With any aosp rom, cyanogen or aospMod, you will need to download and flash the gapps in the same manner as, and after, the rom. Any of the froyo roms are good, though I would stay away from gingerbread roms for now, as the bugs are still being worked out.

Although its Not Completely Stable, Checkout the ExpressoEnergyHeroc 2.2 Rom!! I've been Running it as my Everyday Rom for a few weeks now! And though it Does have some Minor Issues with it, None of them have been Substantial Enough for Me or the Others I've been Helping out with the Rom to Basically get Fed up and Switch to Something else! Oh and it is Sense Based with Froyo!!!

Now that the whole Cyanogen deal happened I've been having a hard time finding the perfect donut release to follow. Any suggestions? Also what would you guys say to be the most stable Hero to be used day to day at this current time?
This is in the wrong section, but I use KingxKxKlick 1.9
Wrong section....
Yes, this definitely in the wrong section, check out Q&A instead. Soon a mod will fix this, but keep it up, and you'll be temp banned.
That said, CyanMod is still an excellent, stable, fast Donut build. If you're looking to try Hero, I have used about a dozen, and Kingklick's is easily the best, and since about 1.7 has been completely stable--no swap partition or cpu overclocking needed, and it's still so fast it's just disgusting.
Cyanogen is still actively developing his ROM. I would suggest following him on twitter.. @cyanogen
I would suggest that you just keep using Cyanogen. If you have too much trouble installing, just install this version. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569825
In theory, once installed, you can just install Cyan's official updates when he releases them.
With Hero ROMs, I found that in EVERY Hero release people claim its THE best Hero ROM available, so you gonna have to do some flashing to find out for yourself.
Now I use Hero3G UNI, others swear by Evil Hero 3.0 and MLIGN-HeroV2.5.5. These 3 ROM will need different and most likely customized user.conf settings. For Hero3G I found 196 swap w/100 swappiness and CC OFF works best. For Evil Hero you also need 196 swap partition.

There are some that are good, but some are the best. It all depends on how it runs on your device and how you config the user.conf.
Just remember, even with Donut, Hero ROMs have a lot of bells and whistles, but still lack core function like BT or Google Voice Support.
Cyan is my recommendation, and cyan is hinting at a very very soon update.
If you want to play with a new toy, try Motoblur, just be aware it lacks wifi.
it all depends on you. right now we have 3 working roms not including the pulse rom.
original android by cyanogen, [everything works]
hero by about 8 people (htcs own google ui), [bluetooth doesnt work, also im noticing flash doesnt either.]
blur [stable but slow, but good for social networks, no wifi]
just download the 3 different roms and test em out, dont just test one hero rom tho test em all and find what you like. but please do post in the q&a.

Google Voice works fine for me on KingKlick's 1.9...
Also, some other Hero threads claim to have bluetooth working, but I have tried them and keep going back to KingKlick because they are all too slow.
I also wouldn't recommend MotoBLUR yet, unless you are very experienced and want to help the devs. It's still waaay experimental, way more than just wifi doesn't work.
But all the Hero/Blur/experimental stuff aside, if you just want a good, stable, feature-rich, fast ROM, stick with Cyanogen. Hate to be so blunt, but he is simply the best.

Oh Nice! You can use it with the normal dialer? Not through contacts?
i've been using enomther's donut rom. seems to be working very nicely. haven't used cyan's 'newest' rom because he kept saying 4.2 was around the corner and I kept waiting. Last week also said he had some updates for the .999 build and was going to add another 9, but never released it. Also enom's rom has a hero theme addon for his latest release. Whereas nabzilla is also waiting on cyan's 4.2 to release an updated theme for that.

Hey guys,
Could anyone suggest to me the fastest, most stable ROM for my G1 that doesn't run into any issues (especially from everyday use).
I've used plenty of them, mainly sourcing off Cyanogen but I seem to always get some delays especially with my phone, so many people have told me they tried ringing me but went straight to voicemail and my phone has no missed calls or anything, just sitting idle and this is a major pain.
I'm currently on the original version waiting to upgrade, is there an official Cupcake version I can download? My calls coming in quickly are more important than themes right now.
Thanks!
Im using CSDIv1....its a FAST rom. I dont have Swap enable(Sucks battery) nor 10MB Ramhack(Like my 3D apps), and still its a really fast rom.
There is only one problem with it, and its that the Keyboard is on Spanish. But you can change it just pushing a folder to the system, and voila. If you need some asistance, just ask.
I suggest the latest MghtyMax ROM. Is the fastest and stable Hero ROM I've tested.
super d 1.8...i made the switch from Cyanogen a few weeks ago and its been 100% worth it. Super D's rom is lighting fast I promise and i had a problem with missed texts on CM's rom and have not had that problem since i switched.

I keep hearing this, and as soon as my class 6 micro comes in, I think Im gonna have to try it.
Its hard to believe, as I just flashed cyanogen 4.2.14.1 ands its freakin fast. Hard to believe theres a faster one.
Guess I ll have to give it a shot. Has anyone actually tried cyanogens newest and compared it to super d 1.8? Is it really THAT much faster?

Thanks for your help man.
For everyday use you want Cyanogen.
For Speed get either FastTest or SuperD. They're basically the same thing.
Hope this helps.
I suggest DarkStar theme for Cyanogen and SuperD
I use king's 2.3 hero rom, I only use hero roms anyway though, best normal rom I've tried, however is super d. although, cyanogen is very "noob friendly"

Hmm..Im curious why you say that. What makes Cyanogen more "everyday useable"? What would you actually say are the biggest differences in the 2 roms?
Really they're all apples, just different flavours. From what I've read, they all have the same bits and bites from Eclair; cyanogen's modded code (right?). I personally pick CM over everything else because the community support for CM is a larger, more discussion. Of course, this doesn't mean the other ones are inferior. You should try them all for like a day or two. Wipe before you try a new one, so you can tell which one really works best.
2.1 Roms on the other hand I think need more work. Not all the drivers work yet. I tried OpenEclair and I felt a bit handicap compared to the 1.6 Roms. Also, for me at least, it didn't feel as fast as the 1.6 Roms. Good roms but need more work.
I was running Cyonogen for some time and I was pleased but I love to experiment. For the last 2 weeks I've been testing the 2.1 ASOP roms out from King(1.5) and Enclair (1.15). Both are great builds but I prefer the customization in enclair more and both are fairly stable. I was having the issue of texts getting deleted and the Rom's just seemed like they were not as quick as I wanted them to be. I enjoyed the new layout but I was finally just frustrated with overall performance and I keep reading about the Super D build. I wiped my phone and threw it on few hours ago and WOW! It is blazing fast and very stable from what I can see so far. I've tried some apps out that were proving difficult before and just wow I am amazed. This build may be on the 1.6 based side but I am glad to have performance back over some "prettyness". I may try the 2.1 builds again but I will wait for all of the kinks to work out. So my opinion is hands down Super D ( I believe it was 1.8 v) is the best build available right when looking at overall performance and stability. I love it! Made my day!
*on a side note*
I could never get Youtube to install and work with the enclair ASOP 2.1 builds, it was very frustrating as you cannot download the app from the app store and issues installing manually via the APK.
I found AmonRa 1.6.3 to be the fastest and stable ROM, in my opinion

I want speed, stabilitiy and normal functionality for the phone for my girlfriend. It looks like the Cyanogen is the safest bet... am I right to infer that 2.0/2.1 ROMs aren't quite up to snuff yet?

In my experience, 1.6 will always be snappier then 2.0/2.1 builds; at least for now. Our G1s don't exactly have a huge amount of space to store bigger ROMs. Really having 2.1 isn't necessary but it does have some nice features that 1.6 doesn't have. Like ability to have multiple google accounts and facebook sync. I can't really think of anything else of the top of my head but I'm sure there are at least a few others.
One thing people haven't gotten to work on 2.1 ROMs for G1, is the video camera. Camera works though on most 2.1 ROMs now (all?). The new contacts display for 2.1 is nice but even laggier then the one used in 1.6 ROMs. Can't think of anything else, someone help!
Basically, 2.1 has a lot more STUFF in general. Whether you need this extra stuff is up to you, because STUFF needs more RAM stuff, and G1 is low in that department.
My opinion:
MghtyMax 1.9.1 is veeeery fast!!! (with Swap, SetCpu and all that stuff, of course)
I like any of the Roms from King's collection and I like Super-D verry much too. Cyanogen's rom has a larger community cause that's normally what people hear when learning about rooting and stuff. I only used Cyan when I compared Enom to Cyan and Enom's was faster and everything was great.Super-D is faster than Cyan but seems slower than Enom's, Cyan has the eclair stuff just like Super-D. But I think its up to what you like you cant let others decide cause their perception of speed is diff from yours.

I just actually read about that rom, and it seems good. What makes me wonder though, is that some people say its faster than Super D. How could it actually be faster, as this rom is more or less just Super D with a theme installed? Surely, having the theme installed would decrease performance buy a little bit, vs increase it.
But what do I know
Edit: Ok, Im stupid. as Fast Test doesnt have the Eclaire stuff, thats where a performance increase would come. **slams head on keyboard**
Super D, hands down. No rom even comes close.
And Fast Test 2.3 IS Super D, just with a theme, so unless you want that specific theme, there's no point in getting Fast Test, when Super D is available.
Hey guys.
Well, I used to own an HTC Titan, and I would just spend days and days flashing and cooking ROMs like no one's business, but due to cost issues and general irritation with that phone, I switched to a flip phone for a while. Now, I'm back, on Sprint with a CDMA Hero and an unlimited data plan and I want to really see what this thing can do.
Yes, I have the Sprint 2.1 update and I've rooted it successfully. However, for some reason, everything felt a bit sluggish so I factory restored. (Don't know how to explain this, but kinda regretting it when I see all these custom ROMs floating around). Now, I want to get back into ROM flashing.
I wanted to get your guys' opinion on what ROM to use. I do have just one condition though, so hear me out before you tell me which one you love .
Simply put, I love HTC Sense. I've used my friend's Samsung Moment and I could not stand the UI. Sense, to me, has a sort of refinement I've grown to love. (just the way I am, I guess. So yeah, by extension, I don't want or need JiT. I've seen the differences in linpack tests and I'm not impressed enough to ditch Sense for it. Also, does Sense have to be cooked into a ROM by default or can I flash it in as an addon?
So what are your picks? I'd love to have something fast.
Damn another one of these. Go with fresh 2.od with the two updates. or with actually it depends what you like most of the overclocked roms are good but they have one setback when you push menu or the power button to get them to turn on there is a delay. but other than that there good and fast. I like zenexp slide port because it has this thing called mymodes where you can change your themes on the spot. It's hard to describe but it's good

Just wanted to say that I used to LOVE Htc Sense as well... I've reverted to AOSP based roms such as PureHero or Cyanogenmod 6.0.0 - reasoning why is that I feel that Sense really bogs down the phone and I feel like my Htc Hero responses a whole lot better and smoother as well.
Hello everyone.
I had a quick question i was hoping for some feedback on. My girlfriend is using a HTC hero CDMA as her cell phone. It is currently running 1.5 and it is abysmally slow and unwieldy. I told her I would try to get her fixed up with a nice custom ROM. I am familiar with the entire rooting/flashing/recovery process so I don't need any help there. All I need to know is, what do you consider to be the best daily driver 2.2 ROM there is right now. I won't be fidgeting and flashing ROMs on her phone every 4 days like I do with my phone. I would just like to find a functional 2.2 and load that up for her and call it a day. Opinions are immensely appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Either CM or AOSP.
Those are the only fully functioning 2.2 ROMs currently.
My current setup is:
CM-Nightly-166 ( http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=heroc )
GAPPS ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880787 )
Use BatteryTweak from Deca's thread or SetCPU to overclock CPU. May have to experiment with speeds that your phone can handle.
Deca's Kernal ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756774 )
AOSP. Plain and simple. It'll run fast. Won't need any tweaking. She won't be able to mess anything up.

I would have to say cm. Aosp just lacks functionality and customization that someone who doesn't really care for linpack scores would find quite useful. Aosp is stripped down to the bare bones of android to squeeze every drop of speed. I think your lady would appreciate cyanogen more than she would aosp.

It comes down to features vs. speed, really.
-If she likes to sit and mess with features and customization all day, then CM6 is the way to go.
-If she just wants something that works and is fast, aospMod is the way to go.
Personally, I liked the features of CM6, but after using both I went with aospMod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782320

FLAMED. no just messing with you. If you think she would like a themed STABLE 2.2, chack out the "mau5" rom by decad3nce and the themed roms (there's 4 of them) by jaybob413. They are a little more upstream than CM6.1 stable and have some nice tweaks built in
I would recomend aosp 0.9.8 .............works great for me..........very fast

Agreed. But we are not talking themes, we're just talking stock versions. Stock cm is far more customizable than aosp is. Also, cm has just as many, if not more, themes available for it. As an aside, cm doesn't use the stock launcher either. It uses ADW.

There us a hero cdma and a hero gsm. Make sure which one you are using. This is the cdma version forum here. Ultimately, if you have su, then I suggest just using rom manager to choose, download, and install. Helps to ensure no mistakes

Flash aosp on her phone, and if she likes it, keep it. If not, flash CM6.+, If she doesn't like either, find a different one. I hear fresh is fun..
I'm getting a new Hero and have no idea which of the bazillions of ROMs I should flash onto it. Battery life is probably my number one priority, followed by fast and pretty.
What ROM do I want?

Without a doubt, aospMod v0.9.9.2

For me, it is the fastest and has great battery life. Pure Android goodness.
Others may suggest CM 6.2, which is a great ROM, but to me, aospMod blows it out of the water as far as speed and battery go. CM does have a lot more features and is very customizable though, if that's your cup of tea.
Both of those are based on Froyo (2.2), but once aospGBMod is stable, I'd go with that since it's based on Gingerbread (2.3).

Hope I helped.

Like "D3FAULT" Said: "aosp_2.2" ROMS
Are Definitely The Fastest, But As Far As "Cyanogen_2.2" ROMS, I Like It, But I'm Probably Not Their Biggest Fan.... Although Everyone Has Their Own Preference, I Personally Like....
"SenseFroyoV8.1_2.2"!!
They Also Have "V8.5" But It Gave Me To Many problems, If You Like Sense Based ROMS & SPEED, Try "LiquidSense_2.1" It's The Fastest Sense Rom, I Personally Ever Seen!!
Hopefully This Helps!!

+1 on aosp and sense roms being good for speed and battery, but for looks, cm6 has a lot of themes. And a lot of custom settings. It's kind of addicting. Personally, I keep one of each on my sd card, and every once in a while nandroid back to one. It's like having three different phones to choose from. : p
