Looking for a soundboard dev - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking for someone that knows how to make an application of a standard soundboard. Basically looking for someone with free time that can help we with this for free and will be a non profit app. I would like it to be placed on the market and hope to pull some money together by supporters of the current flash version. All credit will go to the dev.reply in pm if you'd like.

MarketPlace For Skins & Themes: Categories & Sections To Include?

We have been running WMSkins Gallery, with an aim to bring all the skins & themes for Windows mobiles to one central location. Now we are creating a platform based on WMSkins Gallery which will be a marketplace for all the skins & themes for Windows Mobiles & Android.
Designers over here go a great job & provide our devices a new look but they are not given full credit. We would like that designers get there share of advantage for their hard work. So, we will provide all the designers a medium where they can share their work either for free or paid.
We would like to know your thoughts about it?
We are also looking for name recommendations for the new gallery, So Please suggest.
UPDATE: Here's a preview, its just a design mockup. We are working on functionality.
Regards,
WMSkins Team.
Yes, That would be a great idea!
it is good to have something, however, lately I am making themes and wallpapers for S2U2 which I post here. I see them back on your site, no problem at all, but I think it is not more than polite to add the original author's name on it. I see now several themes, clocks and wallpapers which I photoshopped together ;-) and at some of them the poster (a guy from India) did not mentioned the author. And when you are really going to SELL my themes I want my share, all original PSD files are in my computer, I really do not want you to sell something and make profit using my work without notifying.
You took the themes and skins from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354111&page=714
I made this because I think it is fun and to do something back for this great community, I did not expect to see them on other sites without referring to the author (the one with the green lamborghini on wmskins for example)
Cheers,
Arnold

Hi Arnold,
We at our site respect the original authors & mention their name on the upload which you'll find under each image when you open it up, scroll down to the page for more information & you'll find authors name being mentioned there. What we mention below thumbnails are the uploaders name.
And on our new project we let original authors upload their work, set the price & get paid. We'll not be selling others work.
Hope you like the project,
WMSkins Team.
I would be great to have more of the themes in a centralized place, however charging for themes could be very difficult considering how many talented developers are just giving them away. Those who do make the themes deserve to get their do credit. I am in support of a "theme gallery", but not paying for something we are already getting for free or by donating.

Hi Irishpride,
Our current Gallery is short of many features. We are developing a whole new interface to it & added funtionality. We'll let designers choose whether they want to provide their work for free or for a charge. Therefore, there'll be both free & paid themes in the gallery. If a designer is paid for his work, he'll be more interested in providing more skins & themes, therefore user will get more & more awesome look on the device. Its good for both designers & users.

Well, good to hear that you respect that, I assume you and another one are having this site. So, take a look at this: http://www.wmskins.com/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=19&pos=1
My name is not there. Maybe it is an idea to let the people who post our work to force them to admit something in the field where to put the original authors name. That way, you don't have to check it, and you don't get any mail regarding to his from disappointed authors. (just an idea)
Further on I think to get a lot on one place is good, and as long as the free downloads are better than the ones you have to pay for, your visitors are happy too ;-)
Cheers,
Arnold

We are sorry that your name is not mentioned there, We may not have got it otherwise we would have added it there. Anyways we are working on the new interface which will improve it.
To be honest, I don't like the site as it is now.
You don't even provide a link to the original thread, which is really the least that is expected. But even then I don't think it's good to mirror the files without asking for permission, especially as you force users to register before they can download anything .

We do have input for Source URL when you upload the file. But we have not enabled it to show to the user as we are planning to develop new interface. You'll get this & much more features in the new version.

Dear Arnold,
We welcome you to upload your work to gallery, we'll be more than happy if you upload your work yourself. And when there's new version we'll be honoured to have you there too.
But it's not about anything you're planning in the future - it's about now. I think it's reasonable that I expect you to link to the sources and take the files down or make them available for all users.

Dear Livven,
We have started this thread to announce our new project, I know we have shortcomings in current version which we'll improve in the next version.
We are also looking for Name Recommendations for the new gallery. Please Suggest.
Preview of the Marketplace added in the first post.
My work is already uploaded to your site, but if you are going to use it for the Marketplace we will have to discuss it.
I don't think many people will pay for a skin.

Currently there is no site like this for Windows Mobile & Android. Everyone knows that WM doen't come with a good looking interface, so we think people may be willing to shell a little extra to get a new look for the device. Moreover if the designers get benefit for their work they will providing more great looking themes.
Sure I would be more productive if I would get paid.
I am 16 years old so I have not much money; getting paid for it would be great.
Just tell me when you've finished it!
Well, as long as you don't upload the work of others and then make people pay for it, I'm fine. Also, I don't see you're actively "improving the shortcomings in the current version"...

[Q] New Boot Animation Thread and Reposting

I have a pretty large collection of different custom boot animations that I have found on online, here on xda, and extracted from different roms.
There is no centralized collection of boot animations that work for the Captivate, I'm thinking about starting a custom boot animation gallery thread for the Captivate Themes and Apps forum.
The questions:
1. Is that something people would want?
2. What is the protocol for reposting other people's work? Obviously, I want to (and will) give credit where credit is due, and it will be easy to do so for alot of the animations I have (the one's from here on xda and extracted from roms) but I have no idea who created some of the other ones I've downloaded.
Anyway, it's just an idea. Any feedback would be appreciated.
I think you should start by posting instructions on how to install them first.

Sounds nice. I would just send the author a PM and say you will be posting it here with their credit. If they have a donate button put that in too and they'll usually be happy. Links are good.
Just don't post it without any way for someone to easily figure out who its from .....
Technically u need their permission but as long as you put in a link 99% of authors are totally fine.

Thanks guys. Time to get to work.
I started a thread a bit ago, but other than cmbrougham, no one else added any that they made. I haven't made any since cuz it didn't seem like there was much interest in it. I'll give cmbrougham serious credit though, cuz he does some AWESOME work!
I'd "grain of salt" the no interest thing Demented. I'm a pretty serious lurker and I was all up in those until no one posted any more. I just don't talk a lot. On here. >
Other than the ones mentioned in demented's thread i had a hell of a time finding them. The one site specializing in em didn't work. couldn't find ONE bootanimation on it.
I'm not a complete geek... well, maybe I am... but I'm not your typical noob either. My brain works, sort of, but it can be hard to find stuff, especially if you're short on time. I'd welcome this thread hammer. Go for it.
And someone needs to kick cmbrougham inna bottom or something. He laid that stuff out in what? a day? Come back to us! Definately killer work.

XDA App?

Coming from Android an app would be great to have on wp7. I'm willing to donate to anyone who might want to make one or who already is. Thanks
An application called Board Express might be to your interest. It integrates and works with various forums.
If you like it...Hit the Thanks button!

[Q] Honeybunches thread

What happened to the honeybunches thread? What was the reason it was deleted??
OP requested that his thread be deleted.
Huh okay, thanks.
Was a reason given? Is he working on a newer version? I donated money and although I understand that a donation is giving someone money without precondition, an explanation would be the polite thing to do.

You donated money to someone for a small tweak on the Honeycomb SDK port that deeper-blue had created... Your loss.
Not really, I appreciated his work. And since I cannot contribute to the community with expertise, I choose to do so with money since I am generally a fan of the work put out by others on this board. Trust me, if blue had a donate link I would be one of the first to kick in some cash. But he hasn't and despite being a "minor tweak" the build was still quite good.
I DENIED ALL DONATIONS... NO MONEY WAS TAKEN. I didnt want any legal issues with google. I saw in deepers q&a about the market.

Not a problem, I apologize if I stepped on your privacy.
He deleted his post because it was becoming quite apparent that he was blatantly copying someone else's work. Taking a "picture" (diskimage) of a working version of someone else's work with a couple of apks added to it does not make it "your custom rom". He had no business giving advice on technicalities of Honeycomb that he had no understanding of, and it's no wonder that Blue wouldn't give this kid the time of day and "work together" on future builds...I'm really surprised no one called him on it earlier than now...
I do believe the reason for the OP deleting was merely the fact that you aren't meant to include GApps (Market, Gmail, Maps etc..) inside ROMS or devices that aren't licensed by Google. That's why you don't see cheap Android tablets with the Android Market on - Google hasn't licensed them too. Same applies to ROMS.
Actually Marcusant wasn't just adding "a few apks." He tweaked DB's release to make an image that would fit a 2gb card for those that didn't have access to bigger cards.
Yep--makes it even shadier-- Here is his math, in base form:
(Deep Blue's build) + (Google's Gapps) + (LauncherPro) = ("MY CUSTOM ROM" WOOT?)
It was wrong on every level.
Zeroing out space and using a partition tool still leaves you with someone elses exact work underneath. Not an excuse. Fine (IMO) to post as a image of DB's build, but NOT as 'my custom rom'. Anyone else agree?

Do you think that Google would sue the guy over a rom on his nook color he was using for personal use? I don't. I could see it if he was selling the rom or selling nooks he rooted and put the market on. If Google were going to sue it probably would have started a long time ago with all of the devices that have been rooted and the market was put on. Or it would have started when the nc was first rooted and the market was put on it.
Why would they sue? As long as people are using it like they should then google is just MAKING MORE MONEY by us having the market on another device to buy apps with.
Marcusant did google ask you to take your thread down?
Just to clarify, deeper-blue was fine with my work...

By your assessment, Deep Blue is just copying someone else's work too (i.e. Google). I thought the point of this forum is for people to find ways of making our devices work better, or making it easier to make our devices work better?
The only real issue, that I can see here, is that he included the Market. He also made several tweaks (tweaks Deep Blue did not make), including raising the DPI and making it fit on a 2GB card.
This is not supposed to be a site about egos or who's copying who. He gave credit to Deep Blue and this is all that is necessary. He never claimed to have created the whole thing himself.

Really???? Maybe you should rethink that statement. There is no record whatsoever of deeperblue ever responding to one of your posts, or questions needing help from him on Xda. Having to communicate with someone that is 'fine with your work' by posting "DEEPER BLUE PLEEEASE READ" messages in their thread should be all the evidence you need. You might want to actually talk to him before making these claims.

A simplified way to connect all developers, share work, etc

Before a forum mod even thinks of taking this down- I've been in contract with Svetius and this may go live across XDA.
I would like to beta test here- and give developers and others a good example of what we can accomplish- as a collective.
I'll simplify for anyone who wants to jump in- click one of the following links, and if you don't get it, read on:
This is a link to the view only version, with ability to comment..
https://docs.google.com/document/d/...MZAPx-mLF8tnXPmBV2V7fRo/edit?usp=docslist_api
Here is the developers/contributor linkhttps://docs.google.com/document/d/...MZAPx-mLF8tnXPmBV2V7fRo/edit?usp=docslist_api DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK IF YOUR NOT ACTIVELY DEVELOPING OR CONTRIBUTING- I DO HAVE WAYS TO REMOVE PEOPLE IF THEY TAKE AWAY FROM PROJECT!
If someone else wants to create a new document, please include a link to this instruction document I've already created.
If no one else jumps on creating a development document for unified s5, I will create and post the edit and view/comment links in second post, or add your document if you choose too
I will update and add to this post this morning- please allow me to get second post
As of this moment, developers, recognized contributors, or users are disconnected- and you may not have the time to go hunting each other down, or answer 500 PMS.
This is my effort to connect developers- it is a LIVE document, and it uses your Google account to grant the level of access you need. Because it is a live document, you will see AS other people type. I can give non-devs the ability to view and comment only- but in that way, even they may be able to contribute.
There's a built in chat box.
It automatically tracks who makes changes so no credit has to be given for your work, or you can create a document you own and paste the link in my document. This is how we create a "tree" of organized data..
Links do NOT BREAK.. So even of you move the document in your personal folders, any link you put into my or any other document will work. Period. I've tested this over 4-5 years, and I'm sure of this.
The same way it tracks changes, you can revert to old versions.. So if someone accidentally selected all and hit backspace, by accident or as a jerk, in a few clicks I can put it all back.
I've been taking to mods and development teams here at XDA, and we are going to be doing this XDA wide, or at least that's how it is looking - this reduces devs duplicating work, because it is Google document, it requires no sign up, it's probably on all your devices or easy to download..
Of we start sharing and get or section done, it will give a good example at how all other subgroups can do there's.
The link in my signature(amaze Bible) shows how robust these Google docs can get. Here is a link if you can't see it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679486

This third post will contain a table of contents once documents start taking shape.
Please help this project, as connecting developers, contributors, and users will help us all!
But I've been asked to make sure this doesn't REPLACE XDA.. So if you have any posts that may be helpful already on XDA - LINK BACK TO IT.
If this goes XDA wide, they may be able to integrate this into XDA with backbend tools.. This could get really cool really fast. Pm or post you're questions or comments- but follow the development section rules!

Follow yes, even help if possible
Click the edit link and go to the bottom where I put examples where I see this going.. You can comment (it explains how in the Google doc) if you don't want to change the doc itself.. So make suggestions, or even help me message a link to this thread to developers.. Because as I said, I've already been getting a pretty positive response from the top mod and his development team..
If we can show them this works and well, it will only help them see maybe this can be a priority.
I'm going to connect them with some backbend tools Google put out to integrate this into the site- so I need our XDA community collective to do/offer whatever they can to get or beta test product into something useful.
As a bonus, as easy as it is to link to docs, and link back to XDA.. We can reduce the number of duplicate questions, need for q&a threads, and the number of messages that developers get!
Even me, a recognized contributor- the more active I am, the more PMs I get..
So come on XDA collective- help me make this work!
It is now robust on a computer, but you can do 90% of this on any Google device you can install apps on

BUMP.
I edited original post- if you're a Dev click the second link, if you want to contribute in some way, click the appropriate link.
You literally click the link, on just about any device, especially anything android or a computer- and you're in, and able to contribute. No sign up. No wasted time.
This is EASY as it gets, but I can't make anyone do this.. This is about us collaborating and helping each other, unifying developers in one place - and REDUCING WORK.. Because I'm seeing a lot of developers doing the same thing, and it is called work duplication.. And time that need not be wasted if you all work together.
On top of that, if I and other contributors, official or not, can be part of the process.. Well, think of it as processing power.
Please give it a try, and let's build a team.
for developers and contributors in the unified s5 forum - please check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2997834
I'm trying to increase our collaboration, reduce duplication of work- and maybe even help out a few devs that just don't know your secret Fix's
