[Q] Help in unrooting! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought a SGS recently and these are the Settings
BASEBAND VERSION : I9000XXJPK
KERNEL VERSION : 2.6.32.9 root SE-S608 #1
BUILD NUMBER : FROYO.BOJP7
I am a total noob when it comes to rooting! This is the first smartphone ive bought!
Can you please tell me how to unroot this and install a faster version, because my phone lags a lot!
I would appreciate it if you could please explain it in steps as i have no clue what im doing!

Hello,
If you didn't install a lagfix, you do not need to unroot before flashing a new firmware.
I suggest you to make your own rom with romkitchen based on JS5 and hardcore's speedmod kernel.
You will need to flash hardcore's kernel first with odin (only the kernel) to get recovery 2e and CWM.

Not sure if your phone is actually rooted but anyway even if it is it shouldn't matter, unless you have a lagfix applied. If so undo lagfix and then flash to another firmware.
There a a few ways to installing new firware. One is through kies and using kies registry patcher. This allows you to fake your region allowing you to flash to firmware updates that may not be available to you. Good choice is to update to a euro 2.2.1
I prefer to flash manually using Odin to a firmware of my choice. Just go to samfirmware.com snd once in the galaxy s firmware section you willfind all the files you need. Just be sure to read the instructions on the page as well.
Flashing the phone with custom firmware is another. For that you use clockworkmod recovery which you can install with rom manager from the market (need to be rooted first and have 2e recovery) or by flashing a kernal like speedmod using odin.

That kernel is the default one. The root bit often throws.people off. As the previous post said look for the app super user or better still download an app that requires root access like titanium.backup and try using it. If u can't use it then you have not been rooted

I downloaded titanium backup! It dint install. Thanks a lot for your help, ive been reading the guides on how to root my phone, and ill attempt it later!

I think you mean ROOTING your SGS, not unrooting?
Anyway read that before starting any tweak : -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810686

Your phone is not rooted. Search this forum for Darky's resurection edition and read, think, then read again. And don't forget to read.
Further more, check your 3-button combo's and make sure to have your /EFS backed up.

[Q] Q: How to root my new SGS 2.2

Hi everyone I have seached the forum and found some threats on this subject, but nothing that helped me.
PDA: I9000XWJPF
PHONE: I9000XXJPP
CSC: I9000TDCJP3
And my revovery is e3
I have tried One Click Root from XDA and z4root.
The One Click Root gives me the Verification error and the z4root just stalls..
Please help me. I want to apply lagfix and custom roms.

you didn't read enough. There is TONS of info on how to root the Galaxy S.
First of all i suggest you change upgrade to a more recent ROM, such as JPY. Go to the General Section and a thread for JPY will be there, you can get Odin in that thread too or from the link in my sig. To root, all you need is Odin v1.7 and CF-Root, the thread is here: [21.12.2010][CF-Root v1.3] JPH/K/6/M/A/O/U/X/Y - su+busybox+2e, CWM compat!
You can't have 3e Recovery, CF-root will give you 2e.
OR you could simply flash a custom ROM and you'll have root pre-installed.

I saw that thread but i dont know witch file to download whit my fw specifications
Jess
It doesn't matter what firmware you have before, the only thing that does matter is the CSC, which contains countries' specific provider APN's etc, but it'll have the EU CSC so you should be fine. Get Odin v1.7 and flash JPY over, and then you can flash CF-Root or a Kernel like Hardcore's, to get Clockworkmod as well, in order to flash a custom ROM.
So as it is now i just use odin and flash lets say DocRom XXJPX ?

Would be better to flash stock JPY, use CF-Root and then flash Doc/Darky ROM.
Can you point me a link for such fw? The one that fit my current fw.

Shall i flash all the files? pda phone and so on?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Guy don't flash the JPY if you want to use GPS. After I flashed it on my German Galaxy S. It takes hours to fix the GPS and then you just get an accuracy (do I write it right?) of around 100 meters. Better use the JPX with JPA WiFi drivers.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Link? And am i still going to flash all files?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Lets see if we can complicate this further for this poor guy.
An easier approach if you don't want to touch your firmware is to flash a modified kernel. For example SpeedMod will give you root as well as other goodies (2e recovery, clockwork recovery, etc).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
Download and flash it using ODIN (put the file into the PDA box).
This was what i was lookning for and after i have done this i can use costom roms with clockwork?

After I upgraded my Froyo 2.2 from JPA to FROYO.DXJPE I9000DXJPB I couldnt root using z4root at all. What can I do? The upgrade fixed my GPS problems tho. But my SGS Lags now. Help please. It also says my Recovery is 3e.
Want to jump in too...
I'm also interested in Darky's but did a fine job bricking my phone recently when I tried to flash to another firmware. So I need something like an idiot's/tech bimbo's guide...
My phone is the I-9000 international, running on official froyo 2.2, not rooted. Can someone kindly spell out the steps of exactly what I need to do? I came across many sites with incomplete information or even conflicting sequences when using Odin, so I'm a little paranoid about bricking my phone again. TIA.

If you follow those directions, you will have a fully functional phone.
As far as custom roms, i have used Doc's rom kitchen. That's about it. I can recommend that to you.
do i need an unlocked phone for rooting to work

Rooting XWJVZ 2.3.6

I'm trying to find a way to root my phone. So far, I have only tried a SuperOneClick and it doesn't work. Then, I found a CF-Root thread, but I'm not sure which file I should choose. Is 'CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVZ-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip' correct? Which version of Odin should I use? That CF-Root comes with a CWM built in. My goal is to flash a CM9 on my phone. Will there also be a CMW Recovery, so I don't have to install it manually through ROM Manager? Are there any other options for me besides CF-Root?
Go to the link below and follow the instructions in the OP carefully.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
But how do I know which version I should pick? My phone gives me two different versions of my firmware. First is I9000XXJVT and another is GINGERBREAD.XWJVZ. So should I get XXJVT or XWJVZ?
Edit: Never mind. This thread is a mess, I just found a guide.

Hi !
I can recommend XXJW6 withCF root of JW4 and if u wish then Semaphore kernel 2.7.4 . I find it better then XXJW4. I useOptus ( Australian ) though I am in Thailand. U can also opt to use a different launcher if TW4 lags.
Thanks !

This should be a good starting point....
I can't post the link but Google "root xxjvq" and click on the first link. You might need to upgrade to 2.3.4 first, in which case you can click the link on that page for that tutorial.
Follow each step and by the end you should have recovery installed. Once you have recovery, everything else is a walk in the park. All you need from then on is to download a custom ROM (I highly recommend you go for SlimBean) put it on your phone's sd card and flash it through recovery WHILE FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS from the SlimRoms website. Google "slimroms."
Happy rooting!
Ill get back to you after i try it out...
Thanks

why you are on 2.1???official update is released since ages..just update to 2.3.6 and then follow the same.
this two steps done very carefully
1 when you connect yor phone to odin in download mode the yellow light will be blinked in id:com.
2 put kernel file in PDA only
3 uncheck re partition and just click your device will be rooted enjoy.
