As the title says ive installed official jp6 via kies (norwegian official).
Tried to install oclf lagfix , since i think the jp6 aint smooth enough without.
Oclf didn work for me atleast, all the buttons is red.
So is there any other lagfix for jp6 out there yet, like voodoo or something else?
You must root it before.
What is the easiest method for rooting this official Froyo ? RyanZA's One Click Lag fix APK should be great and easy to use but it does not support VooDoo but OneClick Lagfix and most of the people say that VooDoo is better. So please can someone give us .apk which could root and install VooDoo lag fix on official Froyo when new VooDoo is out ? Like .apk and if it is not possible then as update.zip all in one solution. I really think that some "update.zip" file which roots and installs VooDoo lagfix at once would be great fot all of us.
Tnx

I used Chainfire's fix:

Not exactly one-click, but not that hard either.

this worked fine for me, then oclf worked once i removed the cable and rebooted the phone
My Galaxy S was On 2.1 with root and lagfix. im now on froyo running as it comes, wanna root and lag fix, oclf wont root it need another way of doing it. any help?
try universal lagfix kernel, it has root and all you need included.
yeah, there is this wild thing search. look in it for cfroot
If you don't want to try experimental kernels like the one mentioned above, then search for ChainFire's root kernel.
It's tried, tested and stable
People in Australia are of course happy with the release of Froyo.
Did my updates etc. Now I got 2.2 running and want to know how to root this. I see there are some one-click apps and programs out there. But which one would be best for my
FROYO.DTJP5
PDA:JP5 / PHONE:JP3 / CSC:JP4
????
(more details of my version in signature below)
Next, I would like to know how to change the boot animation?
and did someone get call recording working (as in the Korean version)?
Do you have 3 button combo working? If you do its probably easier to flash new kernel that has root in it plus it will have lagfix options or better still install new jpu 2.2.1 fast as hell and no need to lagfix.

Thanks, you are the 2nd person to suggest JPU 2.2.1. I will look into that. However, I read it will not recognize Kies anymore. Before, as most I hated Kies. But with the new Froyo update it finally works and syncs even the Outlook pictures. I still dont know what the lags entails, and what the benefits are of JPU 2.2.1. So would be glad to hear more about the differences.
For the reader. I was able to use z4root. The installation of z4root didnt go correctly. But it was there after a restart and root was succesful.
I used z4mod for my DTJP5, and it's working fine.
VeenK, did you upgrade via kies or odin?

ive beeb trying to search the thread on how to make the samsung galaxy s less lag and i cant find it i updated my phone using kies im on froyo 2.2 now. saw some tutorials but only working on 2.1 for the rooting purposes can anyone show me the thread on how to root samsung galaxy s running on 2.2 and give me some apps to less the lag thanks very much....;
[Mod Edit] Title edited because it was misleading , this way this thread may be of help to others with similar questions.

oh this is simple. go to development thread and you should find a bunch of choices of Kernels. They mostly have Odin for you to download, then u can use Odin to flash a custom Kernel over your stock one. Then go to recovery and go to the advance options and Root your phone fromt here. All new Kernels are pretty awesome cuz they will root your phone for you and insteall superuser + busybox.

here's the easiest way to root your SGS..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
just make sure you follow the instructions:
You NEED to put your phone on USB Debugging mode
You NEED to install make sure the Android drivers for your phone are installed
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card.
If you still can't get something to run, try doing it in recovery mode
The easiest way to root+lagfix (especially if you're newer to this sort of stuff) is to install Voodoo.
It will automatically lag-fix your Galaxy S and then all you do is install "superuser" from the market and you've got root. Nice and simple.

Another option is to go to samfirmware.com and using ODIN instal I9000XWJS5. Full instructions are on site. The advantage of this is you get a good stable ROM, smoothness, fast, better battery life and there is no need for a lagfix - much safer.
Enjoy your SGS.
i downloaded z4root and get a little bit confuse of the temporary and permanent root can anyone explain me whats the difference thanks.

It means that your computer must have the correct drivers for you Galaxy S. You'll be connecting the phone to your computer, the computer needs drivers to recognize the phone.
Just install Samsung Kies, all the needed drivers will be installed as well.

Your best and easiest bet would probably be to install the Spedmod kernel, or a custom Tom. Realty all you have to do is go to the developement section.

Your device must be rooted to do that.
Please.. Don't just try anything without a thorough read. You might end up bricking your device.
First of all, I am not a fan of Lag fixes, some lag fix users had lost their internal memory because of it and if you use it you'll only have 600mb internal memory.
I suggest you to upgrade to a stock Froyo 2.2.1. It is faster than 2.2 and almost on par with LagFixed SGS. I'm currently using Froyo 2.2.1 XXJPY and it is very stable.
Search on the General section on how to upgrade to 2.2.1

Currently all froyo 2.2.1 is only for Europe Galaxy S. I installed mine via Kies Registry Hack. You can also install it using Odin.

I'm sorry but the kies registry hacking is no longer working, Samsung already blocked the kies versions 1.5.3.10103.102 and lower. Here's the thread

Your only option now is to wait for the official release on your country or Flash 2.2.1 via Odin, remember to backup before doing it coz it'll erase all your data.

Yes you can, mine is also branded and unlocked plus with singtel BLOATWARE. when I upgraded to XXJPY which is an unbranded rom, all of the annoying bloatware is gone.

Hi all,
I have a notification from AT&T that I can now update my Froyo Captivate to Gingerbread.
I am currently rooted (Even if rooted, I am not using any custom roms.. and I don't seem to need any.. I am happy with what has come with Cappy. I rooted it just to sideload the apps as it comes disabled in Froyo by default)
My question is: If I use the Kies and update my Cappy to gingerbread, will I be able to sideload the apps as I do it now?
As I am rooted, will it create any problem updating it to gingerbread using Kies?
I just updated to gingerbread yesterday using kies mini, and after I did the "Allow Installation from non-Market Sources" was visible. I think thats all you need for sideloading. You will lose the Root, but like you said you don't need it.
I'm not sure if beeing rooted will affect kies, I was on a custom rom so I used a oneclick back to stock and then kies
thanks t-roth for the response. How is your experience with new stock GB?
Does anyone knows if I am rooted, I can directly go to the Stock Captivate GB using the Kies Mini

If your rooted phone can connect to Kies, you can install the update.
Thanks Bruce. I will try that out..
Probably the last question. Am I going to see huge performance change moving from Froyo to GB?
I was rooted and Kies had no issue with my phone being so. It left me root-less after the fact, and I felt naked. The number one reason you SHOULD want to be rooted is to get rid of the freaking still-born garbage AT&T thinks we should endorse and like. As far as actual side-loading...I was unable to get the Sideload Wonder Machine to work. But I didn't sweat it because I quickly sought Root. Some of the more powerful utilities require root, but for the casual user, you probably won't want to be messing about in system folders anyway.
You say you "quickly sought root", but did you find it. I tried the 2.3.5 upgrade and as noted it left me able to load non-market apps ok but I was root-less. I haven't been able to root the KK4 upgrade and since I live and die with my Root Explorer and TI Backup I NEED the root. Z4 Root wouldn't work and neither would any of the 3 versions of Super 1-Click that I have (1.6.5, 2.1.1 & 2.3.1). If you were successful, what did you use?
I think it depends on how you enabled the side loading of apps. I'm not on the official gingerbread but that's what I think.
