Does anyone know if there is a soft reset/restart app available?
I am checking out a bunch of themes and hitting "Menu+End+Call" at the same time is a pain!
I am hoping there is a simple app that you just press, select to confirm, and it restarts the phone.
I have had a similar app for every smartphone I have owned except this one. WM5, Blackberry, etc.
I searched in several different ways and have been unable to locate this type of app. If my search wasn't extensive enough please let me know so the monitors can delete this thread.
Search the market for 'tReboot'
It notes on the market that the app only works with Dev phones.
I have a rooted phone - but, not a Dev phone.
That is exactly what I want... If it worked on a Rooted phone it would be great! Thanks for the info.
np sorry about that, didn't know what type you had or whether it would work or not on which phones, just saw it in the market while browsing around I'm sure the dev will make it better.
why don't you just long hold the end call button and press 'shut down'
Or you may get DroidSans Tweak Tools 0.87, it has a option for reboot ^^;
Or use adb (or terminal emulator) to enter the command
reboot recovery
then just wait for it..... It will reboot into recovery mode automagically!
DroidSans Tweak Tools works.
You could also use the gSript app and put a shortcut on your desktop with a reboot script.
I would think that would be the easiest way.
Yes, I just found the Gscript app today.
I think I am going to use that. I have Droidsans Tweak Tools - but, I think mine is the lite version. Didn't use the other version because my phone has JF latest mod on it and I didn't know that app added anything that wasn't covered by the mod that the lite version had.
"Or use adb (or terminal emulator) to enter the command
reboot recovery
then just wait for it..... It will reboot into recovery mode automagically!" - Kinda defeats the whole purpose of having something that is quick and easy.
Looks like Gscript will end up working best. Then if Buttercut will work with my Home program I can just give it a nice looking icon.
Thanks!

Of course, I know about that. But, when I am constantly checking out new themes and tinkering with my phone it is a hassle to keep pressing three buttons at the same time to reboot when I could have a button on the home screen to press without having to pick the phone up.
It is just a convenience issue - like the whole cell phone/smart phone thing to begin with. LOL

Agreed. On my phone I seem to have to be fantastically precise with the timing of all three buttons at once. Even with concentrated effort it most often brings up the dialler, the menu or goes into sleep mode (annoying). I put a GScript - Reboot shortcut on my homepage and it works fine.
I am also looking forward to a application that could reboot the phone like those found in Windows Mobile. As the above reply said, sometimes we may not press all three buttons together at one go. Seems like we got to wait.

Why wait for an app when you can use a script?
Download Gscript from the above posted links.
To create a reboot/soft reset/re-start script you just:
Open Gscript
Select the "Menu" button
Select "Add script"
Enter a name for your script - I entered "Re-Start" - but, use what you want.
Make sure "Needs SU?" is checked.
Enter "reboot" inside the large text window.
Select save.
Long press on your new script and select to "save to SDcard."
Go to your home screen. Long press in a blank area and go through the prompts to add a shortcut. Select Gscript and it will give you the options to choose which script you wish to create a shortcut for. Then you can use Bettercut to give it a nicer look (unless you are like me and using a custom home screen which won't work with Bettercut!)
Why not "reboot recovery"? Then you won't need to hold the home button when it reboots. Just a thought.
Just want to point out this app for anyone wanting to reduce wear to the Power Button on the GTAB
QUICKBOOT
It can reboot into recovery, into Bootloader, and Power Off the Device.
A must have in my personal Opinion.
Not so often have to use

Bekit's v.08 version does work with the VEGAn 5.1 Beta ROM
This app is not a part of Rom Manager.
It's simply another way to power off your device, reboot, or reboot into Recovery Mode without having to use the Real Power Button all the time.
It helps save from frequent power use.
+1 to Quickboot. I use it on my Droid X and my Tab. Excellent little app.
I love it. I have it on my phone and my gtab
It's good.. Use it on the Evo and the tab.
Now if we could get the reboot option on the power down menu.
+1 to Quickboot. I use it too on my Droid 2 and my GTab. No issues
Installed and I love it.
Now, is there an app/widget I can use to put my tab to sleep (instead of the hard home button) and use the volume button to wake it up? Any thoughts on Tap Tap App?
+1 on the sleep button. having a soft sleep button would be useful...
I love it!
Hi all
I am owning the device almost a month, as i am x mate 7 user the only thing Iam missing is the battery life, the rest are ok.
Also i have some bugs i wanted to report may huawei listen!

2. Connectivity or paring with bluetooth devices such as head set,car audio and android watch sometime disconnected without notice!
3. Accessibility access services turned off for the application need that access such as Notify, sound profile and Pushbullet.
Please shear your experience also if you have above bugs to confirm or you have any solution.

For me a workaround was to make sure the app I want notifications from is running, then press the recents button and find the app on the list, then swipe the app down, it will only move a little way then spring back and also obtains a small padlock icon.
You will probably also need to go to the settings menu and find either protected apps or app settings (depends if you are using the Lollipop version or the Marshmallow beta) and enable the setting for the app which makes it stay awake when the phone sleeps.
Thanks so so much. I try this out
You have tomark the app to run in background...
this is no bug it is an energy saving feature.
the device has a stock white list of apps allowed to run in background.
but normally you re asked if an app should be able to run in background or not.
any app that is not allowed to will be closed immediately in standby

Hello, I'm having issues with my N6 after the Marshmallow But I am facing a problem that for each application, I am getting screen overlay detected. If I follow on screen instructions, in settings, I can't change permission. i cannot upload any images from my phone to facebook, instagram basically any app trying to access the drive on my phone. can you guys help solve this issue.
thanks,
A quick Google search for "screen overlay detected" found a lot of results indicating this is due to screen filtering apps that modify the screen brightness, such as Lux, Bluelight Filter, Twilight, etc.

Yes, they also prevent you granting root access to apps too. Lux is the most common. These apps put an overlay over the UI. Android protection prevents you pressing "serious" buttons in case it is the overlay working to malicious intents.

okay. I have called google support for five nights and not one tech support person was able to help me. After countless hours of fiddling i figured out how to fix this problem. Put your phone in safe mode (press the power off button and press on the on screen power off icon until it asks if you want to go in safe mode. Press okay) then once it reboots, go to settings, then apps, click on the facebook app or whatever app you have the problem with, press permissions and then turn on all the permissions (toggle to the right and it should turn green). Repeat for whichever other apps have this problem then turn reboot the phone and voila! It's fixed. :d

I was thinking going back to Lollipop, then you saved my days. This "Screen overlay detected" was driving me nuts as I have tons of apps that requires "Draw over other apps" such as Sidebar Launcher, SuperSU, Widgetsoid, Rotation Manager... almost 30 apps. So every time I install new app I virtually have to turn off the "Draw over other apps" for all these 30 then set the permissions then turn them on again. It's so frustrating. And if I stupidly reset permissions for all apps then virtually most are unusable. Now with Safemode I can grant an app all the permissions it requires without turn the "Draw over other apps" off.

It's good you solved your problem. You shouldn't be running anything from Cheetah Mobile, as every single app they produce is pretty much junk.
Grrr
Omni swipe program can also cause this disable it or uninstall
For me it's just SwipePad that I use which has an always on overlay. If you know what apps are overlaying I've found a workaround you can setup. Ideally an app shouldn't have an invisible overlay permanently hogging resources so you should find and disable them permanently if they're unwanted anyway. An app like Elixir with it's "running" processes/services filtered to User can help finding the culprit.
So I use a workaround to quickly disable an overlay for permission toggling. A "Task Shortcut" that uses the Tasker Greenify plugin (don't know if pro is required) to Hibernate the overlay app/s, Wait for a configured time and then Wake. Note that the wake process takes five seconds to finish.
I open my shortcut from SwipePad itself for it to disable for ten seconds while I click away at permissions to my hearts content. When the time is up it resumes working normally and all is well :highfive:

i'm ready to put my phone in the garbage disposal over this error. i can't get rid of it and can't even download a simple APK file from chrome without getting it. I've done everything suggested in every youtube video and what you said above.

i go into safe mode and try to turn on a permission and I STILL GET THE SCREEN OVERLAY ERROR. i have no idea what to do or what is wrong.

Done a lot of searching, figuring & fixing on my own as well.
"Can't find Google icon in app drawer. How do I get the Google icon in app drawer?"
Use a different OpenGApps package.
"How can I enable Double Tap to Wake?"
Search for a mod to enable it. I'm not familiar with the ROM you're using - I use Nitrogen - so I don't know if there is a setting for it built in to the ROM.
Most kernel apps such as ka mod, or ex manager will enable what your looking for. Being you are running aosip its cooked with ex kernel which has double tap to wake. As far as Google...maybe try different gapps.
Let me also suggest that you read through the thread where the ROM was downloaded as there is always gems hidden away.
And I kinda suggest that using the stock open Gapps package with a config file to prevent the install of unwanted apps help you ensure all of the frameworks you need are installed.
You can create the config file as outlined in the open Gapps wiki I linked to in the other thread and then reboot to recovery and flash the new Gapps setup. The install script will remove the old packages and install the new ones based on any config file available.

No, as long as the data partition is not getting wiped, you won't lose play store apps. And there's no reason to wipe any partition for this exercise. The ones you flash in recovery go to system.

I have no idea. Maybe it's not optimized for Oreo, maybe another app or mod is conflicting, maybe battery optimization needs to be turned off.

I have a replacement File Manager (OSS). So I'd like to disable (disappear it from app drawer) or uninstall it.
Thanks for notification dragging tip. As far as ad blocker using Netguard from XDA through F-Droid. Had a scare optimized everything for battery usage. Stuck at Google screen. Held power button till off, turned on undid what I did OK so far.
OH btw I have sort of double/triple tap to wake thing working. Doesn't always work. And it's always proceed by picking up or turning over the phone & the ROMs crossing swords clock popping up 1st. Then I tap away & get to the lockscreen. Not sure what I did.
What happens if I do a Factory Reset? I know all data gets wiped. But does it stay Rooted, on the Same ROM with the same open GAPPS? And if I do a Nandroid & restore it is it Exactly the same?

Try installing EX Kernel Manager and going to Gestures and enabling Double Tap2Wake. If support for DT2W is built into your current Kernel as previously mentioned then that should enable it.
I think I have DT2W sussed. If lay down the N6 on it's front & then turn it over DT2W works perfectly.

Battery optimization is the same as "doze". It's a feature to help reduce the drain apps can make on the battery. The only apps I manually have set to not optimized are Tasker, k9 mail, Termux (because it has some long scripts that run overnight) and Auto tools plug-in to Tasker.
If you factory reset, only data, cache and dalvik are wiped. This is true whether the wipe is done through the ROM in settings, or using the default factory reset through TWRP. Any apps installed to system (e.g. the open gapps you flashed with the ROM) will still be available. Root, because it's installed into the boot partition, will still be available. But the root app (e.g. Magisk manager) will need to be reinstalled after boot. All user apps, which are installed into the data partition will be wiped as well as updates to the apps on system that were downloaded from the play store.

I think I have DT2W sussed. If lay down the N6 on it's front & then turn it over DT2W works perfectly.

The DT2W is tied to the gesture "lift to check" (settings->display->advanced->ambient display). I *think* this association is required because of changes in the Google code that prevent apps from doing (certain) things with the display off.

If I want to disable a system app and going to Settings --> Apps & Notifications --> All Apps --> App Name doesn't offer the option to disable I use Titanium Backup as you mentioned....

MyBackup Root (Rerware, LLC) also Freezes Systems. That's what I'm using now.
SOLVED: How do I know my battery is turbo charging?
Edit: Just saw a reading on the screen, "Charging Rapidly".
Just got the Motorola SPN5970A TurboPower 15+ QC3.0 Wall Charger with SKN6461A USB-A to micro USB cable.
It is backwards compatible for the N6 superseding the included OEM charger. Used once so far & I did not time the charging time.

How do I assign Speed Dial #s?
When I long press a # I don't even get "no number has been assigned to this speed dial".
All I found so far are stupid Favorites or make a shortcut for a contact. If there's no Speed Dial that's REALLY stupid.
Thanks all.

You don't. That is what Favorites are for, as they are more efficient than speed dial. In fact, the dialer has never had speed dial. The only long press button is the number 1, and that is set for your voicemail.

I was afraid of that.
Why not offer both? Grrr frusty Speed Dial is easier for me. I don't want to look at Favorites. I want to open the Dialer & long press a number.
For instance in Speed Dial I'd assign 3-5 #s for personal contacts & 3 #s that are shtf #s.
I don't want to even think of the shtf #s let alone look at them in a Favorites page.
But when the shtf I just want to long press a #.

Because speed dial is woefully inefficient and unnecessary on a smartphone. Dumbphones need it because they lack a quick method of dialing a desired number. With a smartphone, you have your most frequently dialed numbers on the Favorites page, with no need to remember which number a particular contact is located at. A tap on their picture and you've dialed them, and more quickly than with a long press of a digit.

I find Speed Dial necessary.
I don't want to look at shtf #s on a Favorites page while calling my happy, happy, joy, joy friends & family.
But when the shtf & I need to give/receive help I just want to long press a #.
