[Q] Phone fails to wake on a single key press (XWJS5) - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Galaxy S has a strange bug and I wonder if anyone is experiencing the same behaviour.
The phone does not always wake from standby when I press the home button or the on/off button. It sometimes does not register the key press when I try to wake the phone. It wakes up the second time I press the button.
I'm running stock Froyo 2.2.1 (XWJS5) Dutch version.
I Already tried a factory reset and a reflash trough odin. Problem is still there.
Because it happens when using the home key and the on/off button makes me think this is a software problem. I will try to flash an earlier firmware to see if the problem is there as well.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

did this occur b4 xwjs5...?

Don't know to be honest. It's a brand new phone. My previous Galaxy S didn't show this behaviour, but then again my previous phone never ran XWJS5
At first I ran the update through Kies. Than I did a reflash through Odin. Both had this problem

So I flashed back to XWJPA and all is fine. No running Doc's ROM and also fine. So it seems like a bug in the XWJS5.
Problem solved I guess

[Q] Home button not working anymore after flashing JPC

Hi.
I was on JP3 and tried to flash JPC. Everything went fine, but my apps go crazy untill I did factory reset. BUT! in recovery mode (volup+home+pwr) I was not able to select data wipe/factory reset, was no reaction after I hit home button on menu. So, I did factory reset via android menu.
Soon I realized that there is huge problem with Home button even after factory reset . And right now my Home button does not work at all (althouth, I think this is not mechanical problem, because it "clicks" properly).
Tried downgrade to JM7 -- same results.
Tried again JP3 -- same results
Quick search here and other all web does not gives any results ;(
Any thoughts?
Ir happened to me also. Try doing a full wipe and formating the internal card . Then flash the jpc again and everything should go fine.
How I can do full wipe if in recovery menu I cant select anything by hitting Menu button?

In the phone format internal sd.
Put it in download mode flash with odin using re-partition
Done
I'l give it a try in few minutes... That will be quite strange for me if that helps.. But at least I have a hope now..
nope (((((((((
Tried to flash JPC with 803 pit file and using re-partition. Home button still not working at all (neither in android, neither in recovery menu).
Tried to do factory data reset in android -- also, nothing .
Also I have noticed what I can go in Download mode just by hitting vol-down + pwr and in Recovery mode by vol-up + pwr. Without hitting Menu key! Is that normal?
Well, nothing helps
I even tried to flash JPC with 512.pit and using re-partition (somebody said that *.pit file is responsible for mapping devices?)
No result. No action after clicking Home key at all.
Seems to be hw problem.
Button didnt worked 2 days. But today completely suddenly (I even didnt reboot my phone!) start working! Not sure it works perfectly now, but very close to.
wondering will it stop function sometimes in the future or not .
sounds more like your button was stuck down.
Yep, now I tried -- download mode requires 3 buttons as well as recovery mode. While button was not working - just pressing voldown+pwr allowed me to get into download mode.
Anyway, I'm again able to apply upload.zip... yeeeeeeeeeeeah!!
OP how did you manage to get it working again ? i have the same issue but tried many atempts and it did not help
mind to share ?
tia
Id was fixed without my attention at all. I just managed it worked again once a morning.
Personally I beleive it was HW issue. For me it started worked again after 1 week or so. Thus, try wait a little . If it will not work -- visit SC.
thx op. i hope mine will "magically" work again. if not then i might try to buy a home button and crack open my sgs wohooooo
i went all the way to flash a stock jm1 and then the upgrade to 2.2 and loaded the super kernel but along the way no luck for me so i just gotta wait.
ah maybe you guys might laugh at me i also did the hairdryer trick but did not workout for me

[Q] SGS Problem...

Hi read there lots of 3 buttons problem...sorry to ask what is actually the 3 button problem????...
and one more thing...my phone firmware now is jf3...and when i connect with kies it show a new update for firmware....what is the different actually with both of the firmware????
have any of you faced the problem where your wifi turn on by itself and sometimes the wifi button does not functioning and need to restart your phone to solve it....
let Kies upgrade you to the latest firmware the stock JF3 is tooooooooo old, and too many bugs
I bought my phone with jf3 as well, and had the exact same problem where the wifi will turn itself on and got stuck. The only solution was to restart the phone. I upgraded to jm8 and never had this problem again. Just update your phone through kies or odin.
The three button problem is when you can't access download mode or recovery mode holding a combination of three hardware buttons: volume up+home+power, or volume down+home+power
hey....i am thinking right now to upadate my firmware but i cant as the process got stuck...dont know why it happened..maybe bcoz of my kies probably...anywhere my kies version is 1.5.3.10093.80...

[Q] Firmware Update through Kies led to black screen

Hi there,
I've read through the stickies and searched for a solution to this problem. However, I am still unable to find a solution.
So, I my Galaxy S was rooted with One-Click Lag Fix and I decided to upgrade the firmware on it. I did not think that I needed to unroot it before I performed the update though. When the phone rebooted itself, it would show the Galaxy S start-up logo then go black. However, it does vibrate..at random intervals for some odd reason even if the screen is black.
tl;dr - Anyway, my Galaxy cannot go into recovery mode through the 3 buttons method and I can't seem to connect it to Kies or connect usb and whatnot. So, am I doomed to send it back for repairs? Or is there some way.
Thanks in advance!

Since it did start to boot, you might try seeing if you can issue the command
adb reboot recovery
Hmm I thought I have to enable/disable some USB settings (USB Debugging) before ADB Reboot Recovery works.
Nonetheless, I'll give that a try and report back. Thanks.
EDIT: No luck =\
I've only way to actually fix it is going into the recover mode and doing a factory reset .
Volume Down button + Home key + Power
Volume up button + Home key + Power
one of them goes to recovery other goes to the android installing thing.
try them both not sure which is which.
Yes I know. However, my I9000 is unable to do the 3 button method (some sort of bug/defect).
Basically, I have to bring it back for repairs =.=

Strange boot problem with menu button.

Hi. I was given a S5830 with a cracked screen and replaced the screen ok. I managed to root and unlock the phone fine but somewhere around this stage the phone started to constantly boot into safe mode.
It took me a while to figure out but eventually discovered the problem is the menu button, the phone seems to think I'm long pressing on it during boot, which starts safe mode. If I tap the menu button a few times during boot, it'll boot up normally.
At first I though this was just a dodgy touch screen, so bought another one from a different supplier and.... same problem.
I've tried checking all buttons cleaning all connections etc. I've reflashed a stock rom and tried it with cyanogenmod with the same result. Even when the touchscreen is connected but not attached physically to the phone it still does it.
I've ran out of ideas really. The only thing I can think of is when I first tried to root it with superoneclick it the program froze a few times before I tried a different method, not sure if that would have caused a problem, maybe with the kernal or something?
Any ideas welcome!

Hi Viper, thanks for replying.
I'm not sure what you mean by "the non touch menu button"?
The phone worked fine when I replaced the screen at first, it was only when I rooted and sim unlocked it that it started booting into safemode.
I've tried all the usual ways to get out of safe mode and if I tap the menu button while it's booting, it'll load fine.
