[Q] Honecomb - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

with all the new honeycomb roms coming out for other phones (Nexus 1, Dinc, Evo) is there anyway to bring it to milestone and if is possible can someone do it?

/nothing here

I'm fairly certain that since 3.0 is a tablet OS, phones with ports of the new firmware are having severe problems (ex. can't make phone calls, landscape doesn't display properly, touch screen doesn't respond as expected, etc.)
Besides, the community is still working on getting 2.3.2 stable enough for daily use.

2.3 is fairly stable as of this moment, and I too would LOVE a honeycomb port to our beloved milestones

The honeycomb roms are pretty much useless at the moment, what works in them is... pretty much nothing. I would wait for 2.4 first, which will implement some of the important honeycomb features to smartphones, and then try porting honecomb apps. Maybe high-end smartphones will be able to run honeycomb when the ports will be better, but I don't think our Milestones with 256mb ram will even handle it.

THX for the answer but I have another question
is honeycomb hardware accelerated?
if it is shouldn't it run better on our milestone than on the Nexus 1 because of the GPU??

i still believe that the locked bootloader on Milestone will prevent anything that has a kernel that is TOO different from the Froyo-Kernel (i.e. with new features/procedures baked right into the kernel itself instead of Apps and Modules) will not be ported properly to our phones.
Gingerbread seems to be an exception since many people that cook ROMs said that it´s okay to use the latest leaked Kernel from 2.2 because it is not THAT much different to 2.3´s kernel.
I doubt that 2.4 or even 3.0 ´s kernels will still be similar enough to "fake" Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich on a Milestone just like they faked Gingerbread (which is surprisingly good though!)

{ALL DEVS}We Need Honeycomp

We need the android 3.0 honecomp in our devices!
yeah, that would be great. but i think it is not possible to make a build, which would be fast and stable enough for daily use. (remember, xperias have 528 mhz processor)
for now, developers should work on froyo & gingerbread, which are currently pretty stable.
why do you need honeycomp? atm we don't have any android-rom for daily-use...
i think the really few devs should focus in getting *one* android running on x1...
(if you only want to play with honeycomp, you should try porting it your self... but it will never run smooth on x1 because of the too small hardware...)
I think most of the people want a stable build for every day use, and the development of Froyo & Gingerbread is so advanced, so it's better to focus on these builds instead of a new one whitch needs better hardware
And I prefer a NAND version instead of a honeycomp!!
You mean Honeycomb?

Nothing more to come?

Hi,
this is just a crapy question cause i am sitting at university having freetime drinking chocolate.
I came previously from THE HTC HD2, a fantastic device. One of the most hacked and developed machines out there (look at the WP7/Android development sections - its great)
But for me it was to big and heavy and not android-native; so i wanted to have an htc desire a month ago. But I spotted a google nexus one and bought it.
Now i am a tiny bit disappointed. There are some things actively being developed thats right, but nothing really stable and reliable exept CM6.1 and CM7 (though it is still RC yet) and the stock ROM (which all look and feel more or less the same)
Sense Builds are to old (ModaCo) or to beta (or even gamma) or to sluggish.
The new MIUI-ROMs are fare away from stable and smooth if you are honestly
I dont want to complain; i just want you guys to give me a bit of hope that we still have a devive that will run state of the art software like smooth MIUIs, stable Gingerbread-Sense, Meizu-Ports, interesting CM7-MODs and so on some time. Or is the nexus one somewhat outdated and not really atractive for the devs? I guess its the second one
What do you think?
I think that it's not going to happen.
Unfortunately, I see lots of ports for lots of devices, and 90% of them are ridden with bugs and not completely usable. It's not specific to Nexus One.
If you want ROMs with even less difference of look and feel - look at Nexus S section. They don't even have SenseUI ported properly and functional on the basic phone level.
It might probably change with time, since Gingerbread is out, and Gingerbread-based builds from manufacturers are still rare. If all the devs that attempted porting would be doing their jobs well - we would have more choice, but it's not the case, and not likely to change in the near future. Hopefully, it might change a bit when proper Gingerbread SenseUI is out. Right now, there isn't much to port - only to polish the bugs out of the Froyo SenseUI ports (Desire port has none, DesireHD port is a bit half-baked).
Plus, the "outdated" part is also true. But you see development on Windows Mobile phones years after they're out - HTC Touch (Elf) had actively developed ROMs until recently, and still has. So I hope Nexus won't be considered "dead" for quite some time from now.

[Q] Aticlimactic Rooting - Need WOW factor

I hope you all don't mind me asking (and if you do, I apologize), but...
What are the great "WOW Factor" roms out here that are current , up-to-date and stable (or fairly so)
I've researched, gotten frustrated, asked for a little help when needed and the current result...
A successful rooting of my Nexus One... my cherry has been popped.
The only things is... I had higher expectations from the experience. It was like having a hot erotic dream and your about to have the mother of all orgasms when your alarm clock goes off waking you up
I researched HTC Desire Sense UI Rom, but that seems to be out of date and not really supported anymore.
I want pizazz and flare... a super cool UI (which Gingerbread seems to lack), awesome themes and more. I want to look into my phone and have a visual orgasm... but so far, bupkis.
Details that may be of use...

Thank you to everyone who suggests roms and such that will WOW the panties off me.
PS... I am a total noob, so please keep this in mind... I'm not hip to all the techno jargon. lol
Shortly put, there is none.
have you considered MIUI? , it has an i-phoney look if thats your thing
Hero with Sense 2.3
MIUI easily has the most radical change in UI from stock but I'd say that a feature filled ROM like CM7 might be more to your liking. It's GB based but has a large theme base and a long list of features. I like CM7 but always end up coming back to a stable, fast stock ROM like MCR or Evervolv.
Ok, let me elaborate further on the issue. I've been looking myself lately at the ROM selection, trying to find what would be the best ROM for giving the Nexus to my wife, and got to these conclusions:
1) Pure Gingerbread ROMs are stable enough, but there are several annoying Gingerbread bugs that make the experience not-so-stellar.
2) Old Froyo stock ROMs are stable, but aren't too pretty and consistent, except Sense UI ROMs. Generally, plain Android sucks badly in a few key areas of usability - launcher (semi-curable but with some annoying quirks), dialer (curable but also with annoying quirks), stock email (that's the way it is).
3) MIUI looks great in the beginning, but it's bug-ridden and can't be considered stable.
4) 99% of the ROMs can't be considered fully functional - usually I find bugs in overall usability within less than a day.
I've tried DesireHD and MIUI on my friends. DHD is stable and nice but sometimes lags (when syncing), MIUI is nice but not stable and has bugs. Also, DHD doesn't have the native hotspot.
So for my wife I've settled on Desire ROM, which has the good copy-paste by HTC (the only feature I wanted from Gingerbread, - this and the cool screen off animation), nice integrated dialer and mail, and has everything functional but USB tether.
Cyanogen mod

[Q] Can anyone help me choose a good rom for an old man

My old SGS is being given to my dad and I was wondering which rom and kernel would be best. 2.3 and 4.0 make no difference. He isn't that much of a tech-geek so any fancy features or outfits are not important. What is important however is battery life, that it's easy to use, and that it has a smooth user interface. I was thinking of cyanogen mod 7 or maybe aokp if it works well enough with only a 512 MB ram. MIUI and some others are also up for consideration. It would be great if it had Finnish language capabilities also but this is not a strict requirement.
Check out TeamHacksung's ICS build. Its incredibly stable, full featured but also very clean and crisp. Nothing overwhelming, worth a look !
Seriously if it is for your dad I'd look for a stock rom... maybe one of the most recent ones then just add the lag fix, semaphore or other faster kernel. Or leave as is with stock.
Cyanogenmod 7.1 stable has the potential "hello hello" bug which I can't see my Dad enjoying & for me CM9 was fairly unstable & laggy. Also got "hello hello" issue which I have not had on any other Roms although some have had it on other Roms.
Most ICS builds are great and very stable but they do have bugs at this point and are mostly Alpha builds.
Darky's rom would be nice and Ficeto's base roms are stable, pre-rooted and so on. Try them
Stock roms probably have the longest battery life. But really if he's not going to use the features of a smart phone (internet, mail, etc etc), maybe you would want to look into selling it and buying a phone designed for older people? (Not too sure how old he is)
There are phones designed with large keypads etc, specifically for the elderly. But that's for people who are 70-80+
just gave an htc incredible 1 to my father inlaw
has basic cyanogenmod 7.. he figured it out pretty quick concidering he went from a flip phone
huters seem
HAHA, my dad is not that old. He will learn it quite quickly, I’m sure. I tried few roms yesterday and Cyanogenmod 7 was pretty good. But then I flashed AOKP M4 and I don’t think going back to 2.3 even on this low hardware is an option anymore. ICS runs smoothly, is fast and works very well. Also flashed Devil’s kernel and battery life seems to be better than with stock, at least in idle and many people seem to recommend it. I won’t use stock rom because I don’t wish touchwiz to my worst enemy let alone to my dad. Custom launcher don’t work that well as they won’t stay in memory.

looking for a fast and stable rom

Hi all. After looking at the galaxy s3 and htc one x, I can't help but think that my n1 is getting a bit old. I like the phone as a whole, but after using something newer (even a galaxy s1!) my n1 just feels a little pokey.
With my desire for something different, I decided to try a few new roms on my n1 (I have been using CM7 for well over a year now). I started with a version of ICS (BCM RC4) and while it was neat, it felt quite slow in various applications. I then decided to try something completely different and loaded MIUI (gingerbread) Q...something. I was very impressed by MIUI, though I ran into a few small bugs and ultimately went back to CM7.
After my foray into various roms, I am left wanting a faster, stable experience on my n1 (or possibly a new phone). I am not in dire need of a new device, I do have a couple complaints
-I hate the virtual keyboard on my n1 (yes I have tried swype and others but I am convinced that the touchscreen on the n1 is just inferior)
-The built in vibration sensor is super loud!
Does anyone have any suggestions for a faster, stable rom on the n1? Or advice?
SpazeDog ICS (previously BCM) on N1 works pretty smooth (If not, consider keeping the app data on the system storage instead of sd-ext; also try setting higher SD cache, e.g. 1024KB)
I am from CM7.2 and feel the ICS is comparable in speed and has nicer touches.

I think it is actually a little faster than cm7.2
I hope so ... any particular tweaks you did?
I tried supercharger but I messed it up. Does that really help much?

Nope, nothing special... just installed it. You will need to resize your partition via blackrose etc - check out the installation guide if you need any help.
