I have a TMO Dell Streak 7
I have rooted my device just fine, using the Composite ADB Drivers.
I have USB Debugging > ON
Windows 7, x64
I put the device in Fastboot mode
> Connected via USB
> Installed Android Bootloader Drivers from android_winusb.inf file
> Fastboot shows up under Android Phone in Device Manager
Yet, I am unable to see the device through Fastboot devices in CMD
-- ADB Devices does show my device connected, when booted normally and connected via Composite ADB Interface drivers.
Can someone please help me? I'd love to update the image with the tweaked image posted on this forum.
Thank you
A driver isnt installex. I know it sounds crazy. It took me 2 days to figure out fastboot. Also do you have the latest fastboot installed? When you plugged in the streak in fastboot mode did it prompt to install a driver?

Where do I get the latest Fastboot copy from? I just googled Fastboot and downloaded it from one of the sources that showed up.
When I plug the Streak7 to the computer while Streak7 is in Fastboot mode, Windows7 x64 automatically tries to find the driver and then fails. Then I open up Device Manager, right click on the USB device that's flagged and install the Bootloader Driver from the INF file (through Have Disk method). At this point, Fastboot does show up under Android Phone at the top of Device Manager. But no luck.
Very frustrating. I appreciate your reply.
go Into sdk and download the latest platform tools. You are using sdk correct? I really dont know what I did to get it too work but I do know it was a pain. Good luck. Let us know if you get it to work.

also not sure if you created a path for the sdk tools? Here is an awesome guide on how to setup adb properly. Follow it to a t and it should work. Might I also suggest startover fresh with everything. Hope this helps

I have found that I need to reboot my computer before each time I use fastboot on win 7 64, otherwise I just get a bunch of errors, even when I have no other adb issues.
Sometime when I have the time I will get fastboot working on my imac, I have to jump through too many hoops everytime I need fastboot on my windows machine.
that may because you didnt create a path for adb.

Maybe somebody can give me some pointers how to install fastboot? I hold arrow down then hold power till it goes into fastboot. I then plug it into the computer and install the drivers. which it did. but in fastboot it still says starting fastboot usb protocol. I check device manager and it recognize my dell. But yet i still have no fastboot on my device? what am i missing?
Make sure that you are using fastboot from the latest SDK.
Ok i guess i dont fully understand fastboot then. Does fastboot take commands from pc to device. Or if i install it correctly will fast boot be on the device? Does that make sense.

There is a fastboot.exe file that is included with the SDK and there is a fastboot mode that you boot your android device into with power + volume down. It is already there by default.
The exe file is used from the command line to pass commands to the android device while it is it 'fastboot' mode.
Ok so im passing commands from the pc to the device. Got it. I just unistalled my old version of sdk and did a fresh install. About to give it another go. Somebody needs to port clockwork over. Lol thanks kable

I was about to say,
just make sure you properly installed your SDK then should be fine.
Im getting app failed to start because adbwinapi.dll was not found. What is causing this and how do i fix it?

This is when i try to open the fastboot in tools

ive done everything by the books and I cant figure out why the.dll file is missing. When I know its installed. I tryed this on 2 different comps. One on vista and one on xp. Installed everything as I should and no dice. Oh well if someone happens to port clockwork is that going to be flashed via fastboot? Or will it be an update.zip? Flashed through the updater? Can someone point me in the right direction maybe? Ive never had this much trouble with getting into bootloader.

some tips
1. Follow the guide "What Is ADB And How To Install It With Android SDK" by searching google for "adb install" (should be third link down)
*Note: That will help you install the latest SDK and drivers etc, don't forget to add the path **
2. Make sure you have a copy of the Drivers from the streak itself, these are what you should be using for the fastboot mode.
3. Open a command prompt and go to c:\android-sdk-windows\tools
4. Make sure your streak is in fastboot mode using the volume down/power button
5. check that fastboot see's the device by doing "fastboot.exe devices"
6. If you see a ? blah blah then it works, if you see nothing, then its not working.
Thanks i installed sdk per that write up. Still no dice. Where should i place the copy of the drivers. But im sure i did this as well. Ill wait. Im pretty happy with the way things are with it stock. Atleast i have root and can do what i want within the device. Thats the thing i cant even get a command prompt to take. Oh well ill do some more investigating later

What should it say in device manager when the device is plugged in? Mine currently says android phone. Click on it and it says android composite adb interface. Is there where im doing something wrong? It should say adb devices correct?

So for whatever reason Windows 7 just doesn't like the dell streak 7 usb drivers. I have had the drivers fail on me. One day they will work just fine and the next it shows up in device manager as "unknown device". After spending hours upon hours looking for a fix to this I finally called dell and spoke to them. I was directed to different drivers to download. Here is what I did to make sure I could actually connect every time.
Although this is a simple process I am not responsible for any damage or issues caused by this process. I have a WIFI ONLY DS7 and have no way of knowing if this works for the DS7 carrier specific models.
Step 1) Visit support.dell.com/support/downloads
Step 2) It will give you three options:
Choose by Service Tag
Choose a Model < SELECT THIS ONE IF YOU DON'T HAVE DELL PC SYNC INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER!
Choose from Your List
Step 3) Once you have dell pc sync installed on your computer download and install the file below:
http://www.multiupload.com/VMPU6QZUL7
Step 4) Upon successful install of the above file restart your computer.
Step 5) Turn your DS7 off and plug it into the pc. Power it on and wait for the computer to show that the drivers are installed.
On my pc I only got a usb symbol with a green dot. As long as your computer doesn't say "Unknown device" or something to that effect you are good. Your DS7 should now allow you to select usb connection.
Step 6) Go into device manager and select Streak7. Right-click and select update drivers and it will open a new window asking how do you want to search for driver software. DO THE FOLLOWING:
Browse my computer for driver software
Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Under model select Android usb and select next
Install drivers and your streak 7 will move from "other devices" to "Android USB devices" in the device manager.
**** I also noticed that when connecting to the computer it works better when you plug the usb end into the pc first and then connect the 32 pin connector into the DS7.****
Step 7) If you have multiple computers in your home like I do then you need to complete this process on those if you plan to connect your DS7 to them.
SIDE NOTE: I HAVE THE ANDROID SDK ALL UPDATED PACKAGES ON BOTH MY SYSTEMS. I KNOW THAT THERE IS A GOOGLE USB PACKAGE LISTED. SOME PEOPLE MAY HAVE ISSUES WITH THIS PROCESS AND NEED TO INSTALL THE ANDROID SDK FROM HERE >> http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html[/SIZE]
IF ANYBODY IS UNSURE OF WHAT TO DO AFTER READING THIS GUIDE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME AND I WILL RESPOND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

In Win 7 in Fastboot Mode, it still recognizes the device as an Android ADB device but I can successfuly execute fastboot commands. The driver files being used are:
\Your SDK Install Path\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\i386
WdfCoInstaller01007.dll
WinUsbCoInstaller.dll

Really thanks, this works fine!
Ok, I get into Fastboot on my DELL S7 it just keeps on saying "Starting Fastboot USB download protocol" and other stuff in red text above, besides that I need to install the driver on my computer for Fastboot but Windows 7 says "Windows was unable to install your Fastboot" I guided windows to the driver folder in Fastboot+ADB which I got from the Clockwork Mod 5.0 RECOVERY Flash thread.
I really want to flash this clockwork mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334487
EDIT: Fastboot working, ok I have another problem I flashed the CWM 5.0 IMG file thru fastboot, but how to go into CW recovery? isn't it Power + Up Volume, but that takes me to the Dell update system.
EDIT 2 : I got everything working, used my brain instead of working blindly. Thanks anyways.

Where did you find the driver during the fastboot screen? I'm having the same problem and any help would be definitely appreciated. What stock android did you have before installing CWR?
Ok, I had ADB drivers for a Motorola CLIQ and it worked, just select choose from list of installed drivers and selct Android Interface or ADB interface or whatever wityh ADB or android in it. Tyhen run cmd and ttpe fastboot.exe or fastboot
I see a few posts where folks cant get their computer to install the fastboot driver from the FASTBOOT+ADB.ZIP but then they say they got it working, but nobody has said how! I have XP sp3 and cant get the computer to install a fastboot driver. The ANDROID PHONE device is empty as well as the ANDROID USB DEVICE. I get adb interface when I plug in my Epic but I even tried uninstalling it and seeing if the steak would install but no go. Any suggestions?

Yeah, that's right.
This is how it is download ADB which is basically downloading the SDK.
And if you have an Android phone or something just install the drivers for it, usually downloads adb drivers for it too, or if that doesn't work try downloading MOTOROLA CLIQ USB or ADB drivers....as I had them installed when I plugged in the phone.
Put device in fastboot mode
Connect device
Open up Device Manager
Click on "Fastboot" or whatever it says
Click on "Update driver"
Click on "Browse my computer for driver"
Click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Click on "Have Disk"
Find your fastboot drivers
Hi there,
I`ve got the following Problem:
My One is not detected properly in fastboot mode, adb works like a charm (all cmds working)
In fastboot mode windows says that the device cannot be started (code 10) and cmd cannot find the device and it`s also not charging in fastboot...
I`m using Windows 8 and I know that there are problems with driver signatures, so I disabled the checks through advanced boot, uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled them (the strange thing is, it worked like a charm with my HOX)
After that still the same issues... Then I uninnstalled the HTC drivers and tried the drivers from Google SDK and after that the drivers from PDAnet but nothing helped...
Then I read that there are Problems with USB3.0 and fastboot but I only got USB3.0. So I tried different USB ports and reconnected many times (about 30 times) and maybe the phone says "fastboot USB" but in cmd it`s still not detected...
As I said before with my HOX it worked like a charm... (also Win8 and USB3.0)
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help!
togx
Try disabling Fastboot in the Power Settings.
I tried it again with fastboot disabled but it still doesn`t work... :/

hey envoy_467,
I found a solution for this issue:
It seems that microsoft´s own driver for the Intel USB3.0-Host breaks the support for several devices. You can install the Intel drivers for Win7 on Win8 (search google: Windows 8 and Intel USB3.0 host controller there should be a link to plugable. I´m not able to post links cause I don´t have enough posts...) but it only works with the Intel host.
Hope it will help you too!
greetz,

usb device not recognized
I'm having a similar problem using windows 8, but I tried both my usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports but results in same problem. I have a t-mobile HTC One S (JB 4.1.1). Everytime I try to do the fastboot to get my token id my pc tells me my usb device is not recognized. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Try THIS
Sorry to bump this thread, but it's better than creating a new one.
Anyway, I have the same issue as the others here: fastboot won't work at all.
Btw, I've tried all possible solutions but installing the intel driver isn't possible due to a limitation on Windows + Intel 8 Series.
Windows 8, Intel 4th generation processor (8 Series/220) on a Gigabyte GA-Z87N-WIFI.
USB eXtensible Host Controller driver by Microsoft can't be modified to work with the Intel 8 Series driver. When trying to install it it says that my PC doesn't have the requirements to install the program (driver can be found here -- 8 Series ONLY!!) probably because I'm on Windows 8 (no, setting the app to run with Win7 compatibility mode doesn't work either).
Using Naked Driver 0.72..
Has anyone tried with a virtual machine? Maybe I could install Ubuntu on a VM to test it when I get the time.
Any other ideas?
VM doesn't work.. Since Windows won't recognize the phone while on fastboot that means that the VM Linux won't find the devide either.
LiveUSB won't install the android SDK either.. I'm stuck..
FIXED, kinda.. Workaround on Linux.
More info:
Just did it..
But not on Windows..
I've created a LiveUSB from Ubuntu 12.04 using the "Universal USB Installer" from: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/downloads/
When creating the LiveUSB I've created with 4gb (4096mb) of free space on a 16gb flash drive just in case, but you can make it work with a 4gb flash drive.
Then I installed the Android SDK.
Then I was able to use fastboot to change the CID to 11111111.. Working great.. Now let's download the developer ruu..
Tutorial used to install the SDK: http://askubuntu.com/questions/318246/complete-installation-guide-for-android-sdk-on-ubuntu
To run all commands faster, just type "sudo su" before starting. After that type "apt-get -f install" to clean everything.
Remember: To install anything the tutorial asks you have to use the command "apt-get install name-of-package", where the name is the item the tutorial says.
Go up to Step 4.
Download and Unzip/extract the AndroidSDK to the desktop (just the SDK, you don't need the full bundle).
Go to the unzipped folder, go to the Tools folder, double click "android", run in terminal, install the SDK and the TOOLS.
When finished, open a terminal window, navigate to your unzipped folder, than navigate to platform-tools and use the command "./adb" and "./fastboot" to work your magic..
Edit: Still not able to install the RUU..
At least now I have the phone ready.. Just have to find a new PC to install the RUU..
I am so frustrated right now I don't even know what to do. Here is where I am and I welcome any ideas. I have read and tried every suggestion I can think of.
I have a Win 8 laptop I want to connect the Nexus to so that I can sideload 5.1. Currently the phone is still factory stock.
With debug turned off, my computer sees the nexus and I can transfer files. It sees it as an MTP device
With USB DEbug checked, my computer no longer sees it at all.
I have the latest android sdk installed.
When I go into platform tools and run adb devices- it is blank, nothing in either state (debug on or off).
Also it is not recognized in "Fastboot devices" when in fastboot mode, so the computer is not seeing it.
I have used USBDEview to delete drivers, then reinstalled using the latest Google USB drivers. no Help.
I have tried using motorola device manager to install proper drivers, no help.
Tried using Koush universal drivers and it did not help.
Thank you for any ideas you may have.
Try using "Nexus Root Toolkit" to set up the drivers for you. It has a driver setup tool.

I just went through that a couple hours ago. I ended up having to go in the device manager, and manually point it to look for the drivers in the platform-tools folder of windows sdk. Once I did that, the little yellow triangle went away, and all was well, adb and fastboot worked as normal. Hopefully that works for you too.
