Already got froyo on my n1 and it's sweet. I wonder how much of a speed boost the legend will gain?
let's just hope you are right about this i'm dying to see froyo on my legend and starting to regret for picking legend over desire

same here.. but still looks cooler than Desire
except the "antenna" at the bottom, it's quite loose, the only thing that I don't like hardware-wise
hope that Froyo will improve it software-wise
by the way, just checked the original source (a german site) and they have update from today - we are not getting Froyo in two weeks.. everything is indefinite....
Here is the original source.
Translated by google:
HTC has denied through his PR agency, that there will be two weeks in an operating system update for the Desire and the Legend. The statement was based on a misunderstanding. It is certain that the HTC Hero will receive in the next two weeks, his update to Android 2.1. In the update for the HTC Desire remains vague and will deliver an update to the third quarter. Whether and when to upgrade to the Legend Android 2.2 get, you do not know yet.

To me this more and more sounds like the Legend is definitely not getting FroYo. They would confirm it by now otherwise (like they did for the Desire).

what? you're totally wrong, htc and desire will have froyo in the same time as they had the other updates together in the past.

Uh, the article actually directly says this won't happen. Google translate failed.
Well I've heard multiple times before this that customer service reps from htc have also confirmed the update to froyo for the legend. The most recent being an email from a customer service rep stating that the user fear not about his flash playing troubles because android 2.2 and incidentally flash 10.1 would be released for the htc legend within the next 2 weeks.
Follow this up by the recent release of flash 10.1 for android 2.2 and the release of the android 2.2 source code being released today the statement of "within the next 2 weeks" seem to be exactly what is happening. Not only is android 2.2 pretty much here but will be available sooner rather then later. To add further flame to the fire htc repeatedly said android 2.2 will be supported by almost all 2010 devices and with the desire being more widely available and more powerful it is more likely to be put in with definite android 2.2 compatible even though the desire and legend get almost always get updates at the same time.
The most likely reason the statement was pulled? Well it must simply be due to google not publishing the source code yet, thus letting people essentially know froyo is ready.
Htc most certainly can't pull the plug on 2.2 before google itself does. But! Now that it has published final froyo source code it is 99.9% done and is most likely waiting to be uploaded to the server.
My uneducated guess is that we'll see froyo on the legend by mid july at the latest.
Also not sure if anyone thought of this, but bell (and indirectly virgin mobile canada) are not stupid companies. They are introducing a new android phone and thus throwing massive amounts of ad $ and marketing into it, from both bell/virgin AND htc itself. Remember this is virgins FIRST android set and bells 4th or 5th, they would most likely have talked to htc to make sure the device is upgradeable to the newest android. They just started selling it, they aren't going to allow it to be out dated within the month its released! If the did it would be a waste on advertising and a waste of introducing a new phone.
That's just my 2 cents, but it seems very logical to me, how about you?

Good news, i am waiting it. BTW, does anyone have link to stock ROM froyo for any device? Pls give me the link, i'll try to port it for legend.

Well, HTC may be about "wasting time" but I assure you a phone carrier isn't about wasting money on a device that will essentially be obsolete within the month they release it. Case in point no north american phone carrier's are introducing any android devices that aren't running android 2.2 or able to upgrade to it, why should bell/virgin mobile be any different?

The legitimate release hasn't been release, although litterally 5 minutes ago I saw reports on endgadget that small ota's of frf83 we're infact being pushed out via ota right now.
Also in this forum section someone is currently developing froyo and hopes to release it by the weekend, maybe send that person a pm?

here you are
.... I am sure you can appreciate that it is out of bounce for me to promise an exact date on the launch of the new upgrade.
I can however say that this upgrade will come during this month.
Sorry I cannot be more specific about this. ....
Someone needs to put all these posts in order! and first of all establish a filing system! tags(well who puts tags?? maybe forced tick boxes) or brackets or something that will make it easier to find stuff!
That being said, can someone please point me to the official froyo for galaxy s? I cannot make kies work for some reason and I need to do it manually.
I have froyo but is either ****ed up, or beta, or something, cause it crashes like hell! Baseband version is I9000xxJP2
While you are at it, a guide on what is JPM, JP2, JP♥, etc is would be nice!
Thanks!
EDIT: I found one guide for installing 2.2 on the galaxy here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
Also try this website: http://www.samfirmware.com which has all the "official" firmware for Galaxy.
Still it would be nice to know about all the JP*versions...
There is no official froyo as yet. JPM and JP6 were briefly released earlier this month but they are by no means complete and still seem to have a number of issues. Samsung said that a new super fast official froyo release will be with us sometime in November. If you're brave enough you can try one of the releases available, I did recently, but I've gone back to JM1 that was supplied on my phone.
I know its an annoying and long wait but with any luck this will give Samsung the chance to get it right

Oh well, I thought the stuff they put up on their site was the official thing, and everyone is saying that they are rolling out froyo for the past couple of weeks...
it is VERY annoying, especially with all the good modders and coders that are around in xdadevs, and to be honest they prolly can build a froyo version much faster and cleaner than the "official" one....

Umm.. You do realise the modders here mostly take the Samsung code and enhance it right? Modding ROM's is a lot more difficult then writing/maintaining them (remember, the modders don't touch the drivers).
The situation does suck, but I actually respect many companies which delay releases more than those that don't. Because those that consistently deliver on schedule, often deliver their software with MAJOR issues (issues which may even require hardware to be returned for repair)
You can find here, on my PC:
c:\Users\Developer_007\.android\Froyo
FroYo for unbranded phones should be here early November. For carrier models Samsung have stated by the end of November. All we can do is play the waiting game. It gets delayed, delayed and delayed. Will probably get delayed till November, who knows?
Where you get information about november? Prooflink please!

From Samsung UK on facebook 2 minutes ago
"We know you are all eagerly awaiting the Froyo updates, and we appreciate your patience. The network testing of the Galaxy S Froyo upgrade is proceeding according to the schedule we released last week (we expect all UK customers to receive their upgrade by the end of November). We can confirm that the software we’re working on includes a solution to the Froyo Android Market issue which has been widely discussed."

So, another month of waiting. Fantastic.
I'm curious if this will be also the case for the rest of Europe?
They just replied to a customer asking when in November and they said
We're releasing Froyo from the beginning of November and we're expecting all networks to have it by the end of November. The key benefits of Froyo will include Google maps with navigation, as well as improved browser performance.
In Singapore too. Samsung Singapore has said that they are almost done with the froyo 2.2 and it should be release on schedule! =)

So I am betting we do not get froyo before the end of the year. What I mean is the official release will not be this year. My question is, why is it that most of the other phones that can handle froyo already have had it for months, but Samsung is so behind and can't get it out the door?

Since nothing constructive can come out of this thread, I'll direct you toward a thread on another forum with the same topic being covered:

Hmm.. I'm going to still say before Christmas.
As it is now Samsung Epic has the official Froyo build from Samsung. So... one can only hope.
This thread is a waste:
1. Samsung still says by the End of Year we will have Froyo. They never said we would have it earlier - only the international i9000 was specified as November
2. Epic got a leaked release - it is not official Froyo. It may turn out to be, but there is not official annoucnement from Sprint or Samsung that Froyo has been released for the Epic.
People need to get facts straight. They may not be what anyone wants to hear, but they are the facts.

Google hosts all kinds of stuff. It could be any one of the Beta builds pushed out to testers OTA.
If it were official, don't you think Samsung and Sprint would be shouting about it?
One web site had this post:
"I don't think this is the real deal.t The only phones that got the OTA were one with a hardware version endind with .4 ,these are test phones. Every production Epic is a .5 phone. You can check your version by looking at (about phone) in the settings menu."
Although it is 2.2.1 - most sites are saying now it is most likely a leaked Dev build.
My 2c is that ATT couldn't really care less if they push out 2.2..so I doubt the Captivate will ever have an official upgrade to froyo..just too expensive in terms of R&D..remember, we're dealing with Ma Bell here-just under a different dress
HTC recently released a ROM update on their site for the AT$T Tilt 2. Info about it was nowhere to be found on the AT$T site. This is a phone that is no longer in production and near the end of its life cycle, but AT$T thought enough of it to release not only an updated ROM with fixes, but with the nicer Sense 2.5 UI instead of the original TF3D 2.1. I think a Froyo update from AT$T for our phones will eventually come.
I'm still shooting for St. Patrick's Day, around the end of Q1.
To anyone awaiting official 2.2 update from B&N and/or access to the android market
If you want a full-fledged tablet, you should probably just root your nook.
Over the past few days, I've seen a lot of people wondering whether they should root their device or wait for B&N's update, as if that will automatically make it a full tablet. Unfortunately, that is not true in the slightest.
The official update, which has not been assigned a date of roll-out yet (sometime Q1/2011, but I've heard end of January), will not change much about your nook. It will still look and feel exactly the same, and still have many of the same limitations. It will not be running the standard android 2.2 UI.
It will not have the android market either. It will only have a handful of apps, if any, from those developers who take part in the NOOK developers program (http://nookdeveloper.barnesandnoble.com/). All of the applications will be "reader-centric".
It does appear that it will be possible to sideload applications that conform to the Android API 7 (no FroYo love) but this will only be available to those people who sign up and register the SN of their NOOKcolor to a developer account.
If you poke around on the website (particularly the developer forums) you can find lots of interesting tidbits about the upcoming update (NOOKcolor 1.1) and what it will include.
Hopefully this helps.
Source: Me - Digital Sales Manager at Barnes and Noble
Edit: (for the record, I am in no way an official B&N spokesman. I just am a wee bit more privy to stuff than others)
Thanks for the official update. I can't imagine many official b&n apps. There's only so many sodoku variations you can make.
I will say that the froyo base brought a lot of improvements over eclair, but I do agree that a lot of people will probably be let down when they see the update and wonder where their new launcher is. I for one am happy with my rooted NC, and look forward to the 2.2 update.
I get the impression that the 1.1 update is not the B&N Froyo update. I think it just adds the framework for approved apps and "developer mode" to permit sideloading apps for testing. Probably some stability/usability issues as well. Have they said anything "official" regarding what 1.1 will contain?
Homer
Barnes and Noble doesn't say anything official until the day it becomes official.
It is probably a 50/50 chance that the forthcoming update it will be the much talked about FroYo B&N update.
But if you were to root after the 1.1 update, would you get a 2.2 android?
Hey if I may ask will there be an official bluetooth in 1.1. ?
Pavlos
Some people are waiting to root only because they don't have to worry about doing it twice. My understanding is that you have to restore your device to original form to get the update, then root it. I might be wrong.
We regret having to announce that the software version expected by the end of the month - in order to solve the instability problems alleged by some customers - has been postponed for several weeks. Troubleshooting is taking longer than expected because of the systematic nature of the anomalies reported, involving only a part of owners of LG Dual Optimus. Many customers have found the solution to instability in fact known (and reset the product off the phone is charging) with the upgrade to version V10b, we recommend that in any case to make. We also recommend that you reset the product to the factory settings using the menu "Privacy" after the upgrade.
However, we are aware of the hardships that some of you are trying with our product. All resources are stretched to the limit of LG to release a best software as soon as possible, but at present we have to move the deadline for issuing the second half of June. We will do everything possible to bring forward this date. We apologize again with all of you who have given us confidence when you buy LG Dual Optimus.
More news on the software release will be released on the official media, or the Facebook fanpage "LG in the Box" and "Italy LG - Life's Good" and the official blog LGBlog.it.
Quite glad im one of the few that has not had any issues what so ever

Sad to hear that but fortunately I can not complain about my LG so far. Everyhing works like a charm. Had 2 androids before and this one is way better, didn't find a single problem so far. I hope to get update soon anyway, because of all other users, who have problems with their phones...
Well, once my phone froze, twice it lost GSM signal till restart, but i guess thats not so bad in 2 week run.
I was really looking forward to official 2.3, but well.. Maybe its better to have postponed upgrades and receive stable system, then having early issued gingerbread no more stable then current CM7 ^^
I spoke with LG Norway yesterday and I said I was waiting for the May update. She stopped me and told me it was coming in May or June so I guess the sad news is true Will preorder the HTC Sensation today!
If You guys think than LG support is crap go and have a read what people say about Sony Ericsson support or Samsung, and belive me or not LG is not so bad because, even if they postpone the update they said nice and clear: they are up to date and they know the problem is still hire for some people after last update, they try fix this, personally i have no problem with my phone i have 3 rebots just after update to 10d but when i perform a hard reset all back to normal, and no problem so far.

You say that but he O2X is being left behind and its one of the latest phones. All samsung phones have GB, experia arc and play have GB and most HTC have or will have shortly. Bit depressing for those like me that got the phone on day of release, let alone those (again including me) who have the BSOD and random reboots.
