Looks like Brodit will be releasing a mount soon:
One mount with two power options listed as "new product - coming soon"
I've sent an email just a week ago and this is the answer:
"Dear sir!
Thank you for the mail.
We are sorry but for the moment is this nothing we have in our plans.
Best Regards"
And now (a week later):
"New product, Coming soon"
Defy fits the mount to htc desire. Just in worst case

Brodit Active holder available
http://www.brodit.com/?main=searchb...-BC4A-AB094BCB0609&showTypeHidden=0&showID=69
But what about the automatic car dock switch (magnet) ?
I've got the passive mount (the active one seems to be out of this world expensive, even for a brodit). The phone slides from the right (or from above if you use it with the usb connector facing the floor); this "landscape" position seems to be the best in fact.
Really good fit as usual, power button a little hard to reach if you have fat finger but everything works nicely. Probably the "active" holder is a good choice as well, especially if the prices drop as it becomes available at more shops. I was under the impression that you might need to plug the connector manually (after you insert the phone) so there's no point in having the active holder (you would just get a charger which most of us have). But I'm wrong most likely, as the phone slides from the right I imagine it would just fit in the connector that waits for it from the left side. Probably you can even fit a connector there with the right combination of plastic and glue (or screws) and mod a passive holder to be an active one.
There's no magnet as far as I can tell but I don't have the software that takes care of it anymore anyway. That's for the best as it was quite a big pain, it would turn on the phone just because I put the headphones in the same shirt pocket, etc.

With regards to active holder, the phone does slide into holder and connector, thus you don't have to fit power connector manually..
Thanks, got it - works rather nice, assuming you didn't forget to move the port cap out of the way
Inductive charging would be "'da bomb" here...
Anyway, second question: anybody has access to a Defy+ to test if it fits the active Brodit holder for the Defy?

Why wouldn't it? The Defy+ chassis is identical to the Defy.
I doubt I'll be buying a Brodit mount any time soon though, just tooooo expensive.
Looks cool, but I like the Motorola original better.
for those who found a brodit or other permanent mount too expensive... i m currently using a sports armband bgt from ebay $3-$5... strapped it round the handle bar like u wld strapped round your arm whenever u need it... n u r good to ride already!! wif music n gps navi... i m enjoying my long rides even more now!! :-D

Hi guys, I've recently become a lucky owner of Leo. The first things I bought atferwards were the normal soft/silicon case, ebay item no. 280510486481 to be precise. It's a very good case, BUT! I can't use any standard car holder, horizontal belt pouch or desktop charger/sync cradle. It simply won't fit in. Has anybody had and solved similar problem? Are there any products into which the "inflated" HD2 fits? Please let me know... I really don't want to end up taking my Leo off the case anytime I want to use it as satnav, and I also want to be able to carry it on my belt while being protected by the layer of silicone... Thanks a lot in advance!
Something like this perhaps.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/QUALITY-HTC-H...DAsAccessories_PDACharger&hash=item1e5a7cd23d
I have a universal type holder which works okay but find the damn thing rattles too much when phone is not in place. I think I paid about £5 on eBay.
That's great, looks quite strong!
So - what about a charging cradle and the belt case?
There are many cases out there with a loose fit so I would imagine with a silicone case would provide a very tight fit to begin with and gradually loosen up. You could also try something like this designed for the TG01 which has larger dimensions than HD2 so should fit. No guarantees of course.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toshiba-TG01-...ewItem&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item5191284371
For a desktop cradle I remember seeing a few pictures on here where the HD2+silicone case sitting on the deluxe cradle sold all over eBay. No guarantees of course.
I've got a Tetrax car holder (the one with X) which works great! ->
http://www.tetrax.us/
The tetrax holder looks great. Could you give us a little more details?
- Is it really safe?
- Does the phone stand in the position wanted (not rotating unwantedly)
- The mount vent aren't fixed so when the phone is there, does the weight make the phone "look" to the ground or is it possible to get the correct orientation?
- Does the HD2 need the accessories kit or the back cover works with the magnet?
- Any idea of the shipping cost and time?
Thanks for your experience!

It is safe - using it for some time now.
The phone is exactly in the position I want it. However, since the holder is really tight to the dashboard, you can't change the direction in which the phone 'looks'.
However, you could use a flexibel arm and put the holder onto that.
What do you mean with then accessories kit? It works with a magnet, so the 'button' must be glued to the HD2, but can be glued to the cover/case or whatever you use to hold the device in.
This also means you won't have to remove the HD2 from the case when you go in your car!!
Can't really tell anything about shipping cost/time, because I bought it here in The Netherlands. (Bought the thing, next day it was waiting on me at home!)
Looks like the custom ones are starting to appear not a bad Price at £15.99
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FLEXIBLE-SUCT...K_AudioTVElectronics_PDAAccessories_PDAMounts
And £13.99 for the Vent kit
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SWIVEL-CAR-AI...K_AudioTVElectronics_PDAAccessories_PDAMounts
Hmm, Pre-order and the pictures are faked (charging lead plugging in the left hand side?). Best wait till after their September due date and check again, it looks like it will be a nice solution if it arrives.
I bought a universal car dock from ebay and whilst the phone fits (kind of) the streak is just so damn heavy it shakes about A LOT. It's usable, but very irritating.
Not sure what these 2 will be like though, but watch out for shaking
saving seller for future use.

Sure... aside from the over-inflated price. I bought mine from a local Wireless Wave here in Toronto and it works just as well for $20 taxes in.
Dell car kit far from perfect
I bought the car kit from Dell, and no matter whether the device is hanging from the windshield or off the dash, the Streak bounces around like mad when I am driving. My car is nowhere NEAR that bad - it is a heavy device and an awkward mount.
I just ordered a GPS t-mount from ProClip that might work well. I will take the sleeve the Streak sits in on the gooseneck and mount that on the ProClip mount, then attach that to the vehicle mount made for my car. That should lock the device down.
It's an expensive solution, but I spend about an hour each way commuting daily, so it is really a necessity for me. My mount should be here on Wednesday, and if anyone is interested I will write it up and post a picture or two if it works.
pictures would be awesome.
Do you see anyway to have the adapter attached (jerry-rigged) to the mount so that it plugs in when you insert the Streak?
I am looking for a way, as plugging the cable in is extremely tempermental, and a pain, to be honest!!
I suppose you could do something on the bottom of the Dell sleeve to hold the cable. I will have my cable secured on the console and the mount, so it is no problem for me to plug it in the bottom of the phone when I put it in the stand.
The mount comes in tomorrow. Can't wait. Had to slam on the brakes on the way home today and it looked like my phone was on the business end of a trebuchet...

In the US it is only 39.99.... not too expensive if you ask me. Plus this car docking kit really is perfect for the Streak. The sides are flexible rubber that hold the Streak and on the back there are rubber pads so absolutely no plastic is touching the Streak resulting in no scratches. Plus you get a a cable with it.
Perfection is worth the 40 bucks. Although I would love to see images of the one you purchased and seem pleased with.
I have the Dell car kit and I like it. It seems reasonably priced at $40 since it comes with a cigar lighter-USB adapter and USB cable as separate items. One can never have too many charging cables or options. The mount does jiggle a bit however this can be cured by positioning the mount so the cradle rests on top of the dash rather than suspended in mid-air.

I'm looking to use the dell case inners for a car holder. I have some garmin mounts that will allow me to fix to the dash.
The issue with the ones from ebay (original post) the holding part is covering the power pdmi connector.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Anyone thinking of making their own car mount should make clearance for the camera lens so it can be used as a dash-cam. Dell did not do this and it would require some cutting on their kit.

I acutally brought one of these:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/clingo-universal-in-car-holder-p25398.htm
The arm is solid but since it still sticks out a fair bit and the phone is kinda heavy, it does bounce a little (nothing compared to the flexi arms you find on most other phone holders). And since the Dell has a flat back, it sticks pretty well too (though I have had it drop once but I think that was cos my brother didn't put it on properly and due to the weight, it slowly peeled itself off). The pad only covers a small area of the back of the phone so you can use the camera, and there's also no clamps that would obscure the charging port or the buttons on top.
If the docking station was cheaper, I'd seriously consider getting another one for the car, that way I can easily put it on and take it off with super easy and I can leave the cable plugged in and just tuck it away (saves so much time when I do multiple deliveries and stuff).

I've seen the Dell car mount kit, and it seems to have a snugg fit to the dell.

Ok I've been looking around for a desktop charger or window mount for our phones and found nothing. But yet the other Galaxy class phones have them. Also.. I think each desktop and window mount is diffrent cause I tried the one for verizons Fascinate and it just didn't fit. So that's kinda dumb not to try to keep the mount specs the same where you'd only need to have 1 desktop charger and 1 window mount type.
Have you seen this stand?
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/SGH-I917ZKAATT-product
yay.. kinda generic thoo nice thing about one where you plug your phone into it is you don't have to worry about the port getting damaged from plugging it in and leaving it lay around. eh maybe they'll make it in time because the ATT store doesn't even carry the captivate one.
i have th Samsung one http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ET-CS01SBEGXAR . It is just OK.
A better solution is to go to Wal*Mart and in their automotive section is this stand. It works great for only $8.
I bought 2 of these in black:
elago M2 stand and dock from Amazon (link not allowed - sorry) @ $24.99 each
I had to bend the bottom prongs out just a little to handle the BodyGlove hard case, but it sits nicely either portrait or landscape. Granted, they aren't cheap but they are nicely made and generic enough that I could use them with a host of different phones.
Hmmm pretty nice find.
http://elagostore.com/elago-M2-StandDock-For-iPhone-4/M/B002OLM56K.htm
Or another choice...
I just received the Clingo stand for my wife's Focus. I like it even more than the elago stand, and it costs about the same. Go to www dot clingo dot com to see it (their price is full retail - again, I bought it through Amazon for something like $25).
This stand has a 360 degree pivoting head and MAN is the grip on the phone strong. It has a feed hole in the stand for the power/sync cord. Perfect for the nightstand while charging.
-Dave
Hmm I was looking at the clingo but some people didn't give it a good rating and explained about it not really holding their phone too well. I was looking for something portable too like

or
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003778T8I/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A2D0IBDF2WHYZS
Key chainable one looks nice, and it looks to be a bottle opener too..
I'll probably get 2 of them to try out, because I've been sitting in the coffee shop using my cup to hold my phone up while watching podcasts.. lol
Stay away from the Crabble
The first link - I bought 2 of those a while back, and it SHOULD have been spelled "Crapple". It is nothing more than some stiff cardboard. In a couple of days the stands were virtually unusable and I ended up throwing them out. Seriously, not even a week's use.
The second one below looks interesting as a mobile stand. Still, I am really digging the Clingo stand so far, enough so that I am ordering the mobile version (they have one on the site which clings to a laptop while holding a phone). Granted, I have no long term data on how well this will stick, but it seems to be working great so far.

Just wondering if anyone has heard, knows of, or thinks there will/won't be a device specific car mount for these Evo Shift's?
Personally i'm hoping there will be one and soon. Something like whats out for the EVO now, but only for the shift.
I'd suppose it be a car mount that lays the phone on its side due to the USB port being on the side rather than bottom.
For now I have one of those universal mounts, but hate it. Miss having a car mount that i just drop my phone in and it holds it firm and charges it without me having to hook a cable up.
So anyone else wanting a good car mount? or heard about one coming out soon maybe?
I've been hoping for one as my last 2 phones have had them. Motorola Droid then the EVO.
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
With this phone's charger port being on the side (vs the bottom as on the Hero) the chances of a mount that charges as soon as you place it in there is 0.
I'm sure there is a work around that. Mount landscape then tilt vertical. Nothing too hard.
I got a cheesy $5 one by cellet from Fry's Electronics. The charger is in a weird spot though. I just put it on the mount when I'm using google maps.

This one apparently works with the charger plugged in. A couple people in the Android Central forums have it. I am waiting on it right now.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ELOOZO/ref=oss_product
Edit - sorry didn't read the bottom of your post about you having a universal but wanting one you can just set the phone in.
well, if it really comes down to it, i'll just deal with a universal mount and be happy anyway. Tho I am a little worried that with the universal mounts the clamps on the side would hit the volume buttons. but the one you linked from amazon looks like it might just work since on the side its got that little cut out. might barely miss the volume buttons.
heh, guess my other option is to switch to the EVO. But I'm liking this built in keyboard a lot. not sure if it'll be worth giving up.
Although, doing a more in-dept search online for car mounts for android phones, I found several mount options out there for the HTC Desire Z which has a side slide keyboard and the USB port is on the side and yet there's a custom fit car mount kit for it. So maybe there is hope that one will be out for the Shift after a while.
The generic suction car mount I have has sides that slide so that it avoids buttons when gripping the phone.
ProClip...duh. They'll create a holder that slides in from the side with the rails on the top and bottom. Will have a cutout for the power button and volume buttons.

Check out this one on amazon instead of the one posted earlier:
amazon
That's the one I bought for my hero but it works much better with the shift. The bottom of the holder actually goes on top of the phone so that the volume rocker fits right in the hole on the sides (unlike my stupid hero haha). And it can also be used with the sand bag to sit on the dash or suctioned to the windshield.
Mine works well
I have one and it works well, but I do have to be careful where I place it or it will hit the volume buttons.
Has anyone had any luck in finding a car dock specifically designed for the Shift? If not I'm going to get the universal dock from amazon a couple post back as long there is access to the usb and audio ports. I lost count of how many times I've had to reach over and grab my phone in order to keep it from flying on the floor after a sharp turn or quick stop. The dock may even save my life by keeping my eyes on the road instead of having to look down and over to change music or check Maps..
ProClip will have one, but they haven't given me an ETA yet.

I'm currently using a universal car mount I've gotten from Amazon and it works great.
It holds it nice and snug, the usb port is unblocked (as I use a car changer to keep the Shift charged during long drives)
Only real downside is that it covers half of the volume controls (you can still turn volume up, but the bottom portion is covered) which is no problem for me personally
Just shows how dumb the overall design is. That left side is so cluttered due to the microUSB and the bad placement of the volume buttons.
ProClip will most likley have top and bottom rails allowing the phone to slide in from the left side of the phone. Will allow for a charging cradle and possibly rotation to landscape to allow the slider to open.
That said, my Shift is getting sold. Keeping the Epic and picking up an Arrive to play with as a second phone.
I posted this awhile back on Android Central if anyone cares to have a look at what the Shift looks like in one of the Amazon universals. (Hmmm is me)
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-shift-4g/53163-car-mount-gps-2.html
I have a universal car mount. It's suppose to fit through the vents, but I broke the little flips and they went all the way back into the air tube... I'm never getting one again. I'd rather just have the phone on my seat.
I haven't had any luck with any universal mounts. I tried an ARKON one that plugged into the the cigarette lighter with a flexible arm, but the plug didn't tighten enough so the thing would flop upside down when you hit a big bump. I don't understand why a company can't come up with something that works? I think a cigarette lighter mount has a lot more promise then the vent mount crap, but thats my opinion.
I bought the Arkon mount that goes into the cigarette lighter and it works perfect for me. It is extremely adjustable in almost any direction, so you can get the desired angle rather easily. It doesn't cover the charging port and it never hit the volume keys on the side (I have a phone case). You can also adjust how firm you want it to grip your phone, with a quick release button on the side. I find that if I have it gripped firm but not too tight, I can slide my phone in and out without adjusting it each time. It holds it firmly and doesn't slide while I drive. You can also switch between landscape and portrait mode easily while it's clipped in. Hope this helps.
Btw I have a 2011 Infiniti G37x Coupe.
Can you guys post any highly rated car docks for this phone, im going to get in a ****en accident one of these days using my google nav.

I almost bought that one, but I didn't like how it didn't have anything holding the Nexus S from the side. And I don't like windshield mounts. (Yes, I know it had a dashboard mount but I'll get to that in a second).
I ended up buying: http://tinyurl.com/63eh7wh
The windshield mount worked fine, has a little lever to push to generate suction and the hold is very strong. However, like I mentioned before, I don't like windshield mounts. Next step was to try the dashboard. Now, I don't know if it's because of the way my dashboard is shaped(curved, ratherthan flat) but the little stickypad thing never stuck. I ended up giving up on and settling for the air vent mount which works fantastic! Looks great, nothing obstructing my view, and the hold is almost as strong as the windshield. I'm very pleased.
On this mount, the USB port is not obstructed but the headphone point is. The bottom "legs" are also not adjustable.
Carmount
I just bought one of these from CarphoneWarehouse. It is a suction windscreen mount with an extra dashboard pad (plus double sided sticky pad) which I didnt use. The suction mount is pretty good. The extension that comes with it is too wobly though !

Just took delivery of one of these today, fit and build quality is excellent. Been using Brodit for years, to me nothing comes close.
Sorry.... as I'm new I can't post a link however Mobilefun in the UK do Brodit and had the passive holder in yesterday - sold out already I see.

I am also using this Arkon mount that BruceCLin recommended (thanks!) in landscape mode on my windshield. The mount is pretty sturdy with very little movement during driving. It has a very tight spring that keeps the phone clamped securely in place. This is temporary until ProClip comes out with a holder for the Nexus S.

The most sticky part of the dashboard part is in the middle. I have an '08 Civic and almost the whole dashboard is somewhat curved. I found a spot where it's flat, but the dashboard part doesn't cover all of it, just enough where all the stickiness in the center sticks to it and stays tight.
As for the legs, it is adjustable. I bought that exact same one you linked and got it today. You need to use some force to take those legs off or adjust it. I just took mine off since it was annoying to due where the ports were located.

Looks interesting, I will be curious of your review of this, and its stability.

Should turn up any day now. Hope it was worth the wait!
Do any of these car docks swivel from vertical to horizontal??
