That is strange... In reality I think all alternatives(such as chomp and handcent) work off of the built in messenger app. So if your stock app works with mms, they should too...

Update prl and profile first. That tends to help a lot. Also make sure that you leave receive turned on for stock app but not notifications.

Some messages of mine were cut as well. The only thing that fixed it was an updated mms.apk & use ADB push...
Thanks to Gamingphreek for the fix...

Im using rooted 2.1 HTC HERO /w Aloysius 2.1_SnowOC Maps & Handcent.
I try to send a MMS Message (Picture Message) and it just keeps sending, nothing ever happens it just sits there trying to send until i delete the message and nothing get's sent.
Has anyone had this issue?
Could anyone help me with this problem?
Handcent has issues sending MMS. It's hit or (often) miss. If you need to send a MMS, just send it using the stock app and then switch to handcent for SMS and receiving MMS.
Thanks. I'll try sending via the message app. But isn't that bug where when you send via message app the phone doesn't sleep come into play?

That bug was fixed back in 2009, I don't believe it keeps it awake any longer.
really? I Don't see why I'm using handcent than, I only got Handcent for this issue, are you sure this was resolved?
I use the stock messaging app solely, and I have had no issues with 100% awake time. I send and receive picture messages all the time.
Oh, Looks Like I'll be switching back to the normal messaging app if thats the case.
I cant find vvm anywhere on cm6. or abbreviated dialing.
anyonw know where they are????
I'm pretty sure sprint's VVM won't work on the AOSP Rom's. To change your voicemail number, just go into menu>settings>call settings>voicemail settings, and change that number to your phone number. Then, when you hold the "1" in the dialer, or use a shortcut to voicemail, it should automatically dial your voicemail

Sprint VVM does work with CM 6 RC1 and Nightlies. Just do either the followings:
1) adb install sprintcore.apk
2) adb push sprintcore.apk to /system/app
Use the latest sprintcore.apk from the Sprint Sense 2.1 ROM then change your number per above instruction under setting menu.
To avoid the annoying text message every time you receive the voicemail:
-Install handcent sms and set it to retrieve sms automatically under its setting menu (use this as your default sms application)
-delete the aosp mms.apk from the system/app on your phone
that's how it work for me.
ok one more issue-
since i installed cm6-
everytime i get an email I get 2 task bar icons. One from google and one from the cm6 version of email.
With handcent installed, I get 2 txt notifications. One from handcent, and one from the android messaging.
this is highly annoying......

I did explained in my post how to get rid of the annoying message. Just delete the CM6's mms.apk on your phone under /system/app.
Or go to Android Messaging app and go to Settings > uncheck Notifications

Stop Google Voice txt msgs on CM6
dial *38 send, follow the prompts, if you hear a couple beeps and a click or two, you are finished, it was done automatically, i think it takes until the next day to stop completely
Big O, that's exactly what I am saying ... all I had to do was reinstall the mms apk that came with the rom

Yes I know that, but you will receive the annoying vvm text notification every time you got voicemail
I hope that Handcent can fix the problem. As of right now handcent can not send mms without the aosp mms.apk resided in system/app
What if you add that short code to your blocklist? I just tried it...

Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know of a way to get the Captive to do a reminder that an unanswered SMS message has come in? My old phone would chime every 5 minutes until I read the message and this was kind of nice.
Thanks
check out an awesome app named handcent.
I should install that on my husband's Captivate. He NEVER checks his notifications and sometimes it goes days before he gets my texts.
Stock SMS app does not support this. Most have gone to 3rd party apps, most popular being Handcent.
Missed Reminder is a good app if you still want to use the stock SMS app.
Thank you, I'll give that a try.
handcent SMS has a option where if u didnt check the message u can set a reminder...i set mine to every 5 minutes
I use tasker and it works awesome!

That's what I use and it works great for SMS, MMS and Gmail. Only gripe is that it doesn't support regular e-mail.
In order to send MMS messages on handcent I have to unfreeze the stock messaging app and use that because Hanscent will not send. It just shows the icon for still being sent.
Is anyone having this problem or doea anyone know a solution? I can receive MMS messages on Handcent but can not send them without using the stock messaging app.

The stock messaging app is what receives mms. So it needs to stay "installed." I've heard of others being able to set up go SMS to retrieve mms, but I found that to be a very unreliable solution.

I just switched to gosms and it works perfectly so ill go with that.

It doesn't matter you always have to have the stock messaging app to receive mms. Just hide the Stock Messaging app.
Even with it hidden it wouldn't work with handcent. But gosms pro is good

It should work with the icon being hidden from the app drawer since it's technically still there it's not like when you freeze it.
I tried but I guess not. Ill be good with gosms for now

You can freeze the stock SMS app and still send or receive mms with go SMS. You just have to check "uninstalled stock SMS" under the important tips section of the settings. Why there are selectable options under "important tips" I don't know, seems weird to me, but it works perfectly

I figured it out... After reinstalling handcent.... Too bad I have to reconfigure handcent.
In handcent go to settings...application settings......default messaging application..... Then pick at the bottom "use for all SMS & mms"
Now it works!
I'm curious to know if it would have worked without reinstalling.... Seems like I remember that setting was on "disable" not sure how it got set to that!
Hello.
Forum read.
But I have not found how to solve the problem.
SMS is not sent, but come.
Firmware: ZV8 stock, roots.
I am not in the U.S. and not Verizon network respectively.
Help please.
Thank you.

Stock messaging app or something from the market? If it's not the stock messaging app, make sure you still have the stock messaging app installed.

I use stock messaging app. When I press "Send" - message status "Sending". After a few minutes I get notification - the message was not sent.
Do you have data service? 3g/4g? Iirc sms/mms, at least here in the states, use data to send but sms uses cellular service to receive. Other than that I'm at a loss. Idk.

Yes I have 3G mobile network.
I had a problem with 3G. When I turned on "Mobile Internet" 3G icon does not appear and the internet did not work.
After installing SetDNS program and select "Google DNS" problem resolved.
As I understand it you are saying need to enable the transfer of data to send a message. But does not work.
I am very sad
Are in any other ideas?
Have you tried a different sms app? go sms or handcent? HC has an option do all the sms duties the stock sms app should be doing. If all else fails, I can post the stock sms app and if you're rooted, then you can push it to your phone and see if something is wrong with your sms app.
