Ok so here my problem hope someone can help. Samsung S.A has recently Sent out An update to 2.2.1 XWJS5 which was long awaited, anyways before my Kies update I had 3 button mode working via the odin method on 2.1 XWJM3 , now after the update to XWJS5 I cannot get the recovery mode to work when using the volume up , home key and power key combination. Download mode still works however when pressing volume down + Home Key + Power. I have re-flashed SBL with odin and still only download mode works any help ?
When the first screen pops up let go of the power button. Somehow it changed for me as well on 2.2.1. Download works as normal.

Yes. I believe the only way is with ADB. try holding the volume down button, then press power. see what happens.
Although the international version has a physical home button so that may be why it doesn't work.
As you flashed the european version you need to use the i9000 key combination: volume down (only) + power for recovery mode and volume down (only) + usb plugging for download mode

Hi
Ok I tried flashing the Ultibread v1.0 rom, but the phone went "dead". Dead as in horizontal colored stripes flickering at boot. I press VOL DOWN + Home + POWER and in Odin it says "<ID:0/003> Added!!". I start following the guide in Darkys ROM v.9.2. Press start in Odin and it keeps freezing at "SetupConnection". I don't know if I'm in Download mode, because all I can see is stripes on the phone.
Can someone please try and help me here as I'm getting nervous that I have ended this phones life, and it's not my phone
Thank you
press VOL DOWN + Home + POWER once Samsung screen shows release Vol Down + Home then Power .
Yellow download screen if not phone needs recovery jig .

Hi everyone,
i'm new to this Android thing. last night i upgraed my sgs from 2.1 to 2.3.3 Build XXJVK with kernel 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVK. it works fine and i can go into download mode by holding down volume down + home +power but i can't get the phone to go into recovery mode.
can anyone please kindly show me how to get into recovery mode? (i tried volume up+ home+power, doesnt work)
Just let go off the buttons when the galaxy s logo appears. Do it several times so you will know the right timing to let go
You would have been better off reading all the FAQs on these pages before messing with roms .
Recovery mode is hold down Home + Volume up + Power when Samsung splash screen shows release Home Volume up Then Power Button .

volume up + power + menu and when the logo appears live them

Did you flash jvk via ODIN or via CWM?
If you have not flash jvk via ODIN ever, you might experience strange effects, like:
Some glitches on the screen (jibberish) when starting, or in the camara.
Not entering recovery although you can enter donwload.
Some more.
In my case all these effects disappeared flashing once jvk via odin. It flashes the secondary boot loader, and makes the trick (sbl.bin).
Hope it helps.
I have a Samsung Captivate (I897) but I accidentally installed the I9000 firmware on it. Now my home button acts like the back button, The 3 button combo doesn't work, and the back button doesn't work at all. I tried to get it to do SOMETHING and somehow I got it into recovery mode but now i cant get it out and get it to boot up. It shows the normal recovery mode options and i can scroll down and up but I can't select anything because it says use the "select" button but there is no "select" button on the I897. All I need is to get into download mode and i can probably fix it from there. I want to flash it back to factory settings so my fiance can use it. Can someone please help me? I've been searching the forums for days trying to find the same issue but to no avail.
What I9000 firmware? If it was a gingerbread build the button combo for download mode is vol down and power, otherwise it should be the same both volumes then plug in ausb cable... or make a jig.
And just for the hell of it try using the menu button to select something in recovery.
Holy F man you are the man!! i used the volume down and power button and its now in download mode. Now I can try to flash it back with Odin. Thank you soooooo much!!
ok so i tried that and now it wont even turn on at all. idk whats goin on with it. i may just have to send it in to samsung...
Hi!
I've just upgraded my Galaxy S Plus to the official 2.3.6 Gingerbread. Everything seems ok, maybe a bit slow though, I'd like to do a master reset but I can't be able to access the Recovery mode by pressing Volume Up and Power, Nothing happens. It just starts up normally.
I can't find anything regarding this matter.
Hopefully someone can help me.
Thanks :cyclops:
Odp: Galaxy S Plus no recovery mode
The correct combination to activate the recovery is VolUp+Home+Power.

Have you rooted the device?
You need to do this to get recovery - CWM

press volume up + power until you see samsung logo, wait a couple of seconds then release power and then volume up. you should see an android out of the box, press menu. you shuld be in recovery now. you don't need root to do this, and you can root your sgs+ from stock recovery (i have an sgs+)
it worked
