Hi.
i have some questions about my battery , i want to know if im having a battery drain.
i recently installed Darky's Rom v9.3b1 (the rom doesnt matter in this situation - i tried others) and heres how my phone lasts in different situations:
when only the screen is on and everything is off(wifi bt gps ..) , it lasts 9 hours till the battery reaches 10%.
and when im playing a video using rock player and everything else is off again , it takes 7 hours to reach 10% on battery.
is this ok? i also calibrated my battery once and wiped my phone but the results didnt change.
i also tried Speedmod and Voodoo , and speedmod was better a little in battery.
i dont use live wallpapers / auto changing content.
i'll be glad to hear some advices to make my battery better ( i read all the battery threads here but still the same)
thanks in advance.
i recently installed Darky's Rom v9.3b1 (the rom doesnt matter in this situation - i tried others) and heres how my phone lasts in different situations:
You need a wipe of your phone and install a clean rom > preferably one that does not have loads of this rom drains my battery posts .
Then reset the battery stats drain the battery bump charge it and then use it for a month battery should be back to near normal .

I've read and done the most common battery calibrate for Darky's ROM but then also came across this thread:
http://darky.ficeto.com/community/i...attery-in-case-of-strange-battery-drain.1183/
I think it is interesting because when I do the common battery calibrate, I'm wiping battery stats when my battery is at 97%, 98% because of the fact that every time my phone reboots, the percentage drops.
However, with the posted thread I'll be wiping battery stats at the point where the battery is completely full which makes more sense to me.
What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks.
tnx i will test this and post the results.
wiping battery stats when my battery is at 97%, 98% because of the fact that every time my phone reboots, the percentage drops.
The drop is in effect a false reading dont bother about it .Loads of posts on the reasons why later battery charging methods have changed .
Plus some battery indicators dont like reporting 100 % .

Hmmm... Interesting point. I'm wondering for all those out there who claim they get 30 to 40 hours with moderate use if they are using stock email or 3rd party source that handles polling.
I'm using stock GMail and a Yahoo Messenger both pushing emails instantly which I'm wondering could be my issue. I've tried every recommendation for battery efficiency out there and nothing has worked. I'm draining about 6% per hour with less then moderate use.
I'm going to kill the gmail and yahoo apps to see if that makes a difference.
Will report back my useage.

bettary life totally depand on stock rom or costom rom +kernal its complicated judgement
i m on stoke xwjs5 and i found this is best bettary performanse i ever seen on i9000,
lots of fector affect betary life,
So, I removed gmail email sync and removed my yahoo mail app to install k9 email. It has a very nice interface however chewed up my battery even more so while having each email account polling every 10 minutes.
I uninstalled k9 email app and turned on gmail email sync. I also added another email account to my gmail account so that I can get push emails to both accounts.
I installed an app called battery calibrator from the market. I charged my phone to 100 percent and while charged, I ran battery calibrator. After the calibration, I rebooted my phone.
Now, my battery drops 1.5 percent every hour compared to anywhere from 6 to 10% per hour.
I don't start monitoring the battery until about 95 percent because after a full charge it drops to 98 percent in about 40 minutes. That's just how the software reads the battery usage I guess.
Samsung Vibrant GT-i9000M, Froyo 2.2.1, Darky's Extreme 9.2, hardcore SpeedMod kernel, Steel Blue Theme 3.0

Thats it in a nutshell some roms = bad battery life as the two posters have found .## jje

Hi,
im having battery drain problems the phone wont last more than 5-6 hours send 20-30 texts listen to some music, i have turned off backgroud data and live wallpapers, im using something called advanced task killer free to kill the apps that are running, but i close them the re open the task bar and stuff like music player has reopened
ive also seen a post about which batterys are better is there a better one i can buy? my batterys a G7
any ideas ?
cheers
Stop using the task kiler and you'll probably see better battery life. Task killers have been proven more harmful than helpful on the newer versions of android so using it is pointless. Also pay attention to what you have synced and how often. tons of web apps synching will drain the battery faster, as will having the gps and wifi turned on--if you're not using them, disable them.
thanks for the reply i will remove the task manager,
auto sync is turned off and i only use email by refreshing the inbox
Come here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884816
In short: Have you recently updated via Kies to JPY version? If so, stop using your wifi. There is a bug with wifi with this newest firmware.
hi,
i update to 2.2.1 through kies
Do you use wifi?
If yes, switch to data, battery life will be better. You should be able to get around 48h of light active usage (i mean browsing and calling and what not) with 3g data on.
i dont really use the wifi, signals really good around me, i only got the phone friday, brought it of a friend,
charged the phone fully before i went out last night about 7pm by 1.30am the phone had cut off, that was only using the facebook andriod app and sending text messages.
Than there is something terribly wrong. Do a wipe and factory reset, if you didnt after getting a device from your friend.. It seems that some application misbehaves and drains battery.
You can check it by typing *#*#info#*#* in dialer
Several options there, if there is something strange you will see it. (suggest looking into Battery history, usage statistics)
i dont know how to type in dialer sorry sounds very stupid all i have are digits

Have you tried reconditioning your battery yet?

About my battery life:
Previously I was on Darky's v5, with that the phone lasted 2-3 days with normal usage.
After flashing to v7 (with 100% battery) I also got the fast drainage problem. Here is what I did:
1) Turn OFF phone
2) Charge till it says it is FULL
3) Start in RECOVERY
4) WIPE battery stats
5) RESTART android (yes, it might already be on 98% or so)
6) USE phone heavily. Don't worry if it drops too fast. Use it till the Android system turns OFF automatically (it happens when your battery is below 1% - for me the phone was on 1% for about 40 mins. This is where it heavily myscalculated
7) PLUG IN your charger, TURN ON android and wait till it is FULLY charged again. (It is better if you don't use the phone at this charging up)
Now, after you disconnect the charger, you should still have 100% for some time (I've been using the phone for 32 mins - writing this post - and it is still on a hundred percent) and with this, I got back the 2-3 days battery life with normal usage.
Also, you should set WiFi to: "Never when plugged in" and by default I disable Data Network. But my phone is using WiFi all the time so it doesn't really matter
So to summerize this method, the key is to show the phone the battery's minimal capacity too, by using it till it is on null. Because with charging to 100% than wiping or flashing only introduces the maximum capacity to the system and the minimum is only guessed. THIS gives the faulty reportes and makes us think the phone drains too fast.
Try this method, than feel free to share your results

Same problem
hi
I have the same problem. I bought it 2-3 days ago. today i charged it full while fone was off, switched on at around 8AM my usage detail was
3g was on
gmail on sync
skype on sync
5-10 min of skype calling
5 min of normal calling
5-10 min of facebook browsing through android app
30 min of chatting on skype
at 2PM the fone was at 20% battery. My wifi and gps were off all day.
is there anything i can do to get atleast 15 hours of battery with normal use
regards
harris
If you are having issues with your battery, before you try killing tasks, changing setting and what not and especially if you are running custom ROMs, then you need to recondition your battery. The same goes for anyone who is having high drain issues.
If you follow the steps I posted from someone else's post and then find that your battery is not having issues, then start looking at your modem (if using a custom ROM or you've upgraded to new firmware).
ive done a factory restore, ive found what my usage says idle 4% the display 80%
contrast is switched right down
i know im not using any custom roms im using the firmware that you download through kies

You need to give more info then that.
What version of rom you using?
Which kernel/version you using?
What apps have you installed?
Do you use wifi/gps?
Did you use search before creating topic?
btw, you dont need to manually type [q] in your title. "[Q]" automatically gets added when you enable the "Is this a question" feature when creating topic.

I have actually noticed a decline in battery life since I flashed to Overcome. In the few days, before I flashed my tab, I could idle the tab for 10 hours and use like 2% battery. After flashing overcome, I cant get no where near that idle time, and I get just under 10% per hour full usage (games or video playback).
I'm using Overcome 1.6.1, no live backgrounds, and somewhere around 85 apps.

Strange, Ive never had a battery issue on any of the builds, even when overclocked. Its got to be something you have installed and running in background.
Go to settings>phone>about>battery use and it will tell you what using most battery. There is also programs like SystemPanel or Taskkiller etc.
If the [Q] wasn't capitalised then you must have tried to title your topic all i capitals so site reversed it, next time title topics properly

I never got any problems with the battery life in all Overcome roms.
Currently i use Overcome 1.6.1 with 2.1.4 kernel and battery life is good.
Idle overnight with WiFi enabled it uses 6%
Idle overnight with my dataplan it uses 3% and idle time is approx 12 hours.
In the idle time i have my Gmail synced, twitter, weather ect
In full use and full display light i can use my Tab for approx 6 hours.
I have to mention that my Tab is not Oc-ed

EDIT .. flashed again with wipe factory and factory rest and nothing happen after i flashed the kernel and the rom
My battery seems to drain fast too
I updated to Kernel 2.15 and Overcome 1.63 last night. It seems to drain 1% every 1.5-2 minutes when I use it with WIFI and 3G on. It drained 6% last night over 6 hours on standby mode (after I shortly pressed the power key).

I know there are some Gallery issues which drains your battery after using it.
But other then that i think some people expecting to much to fast to see some battery life progress on custom roms.
On the first fresh install i had also a drain.
You have to be aware that after a fresh rom install you have to let the battery settle for a couple off charges.
Yesterday i also took a complete reinstall by the guide provided in the Overcome thread.
I did this because i have some issues with FC's on receiving gmails.
After that fresh install and restoring my apps ect.
I went playing with it, first i did 2 hours of surfing over wifi.
Later playing Black Pegasus Modern Combat for 3 hours.
I started of with 67% battery and didn't have the battery calibrated
So after 5 hours of heavy use the Galaxy Tab battery was empty.
This morning i calibrated the battery.
And after a full cycle charge in 2 hours i didn't touch my Tab at all.
After 4 hours i still have 97% battery left.
It is common that when you take your from the charger it instantly drops to 99% (No worry)
So 2% lost in 4 hours in idle standby with 3g on and syncing XDA app every 15min, Twitter every 5 min, email every 30min, Gmail (Push), weather every hour.
I think it's battery life is great.
Beware the screen of our Tab's are using a great deal of battery life.
Even 50% brightness sucks your battery empty.
I have it set on 30% which is good for use in the evening.
Daytime and sunlight it sucks at 30% but since i never use my Tab outside it will work for me.
Hello!
I cant imagine that the battery is draining because of overcome rom or kernel. Since i flashed it my battery life is suprisingly good, even when overclocked!

I know there is a Gallary 3d issue when using it your battery is draining.
Alterbridge is working on that.
If people followed the flash and battery calibrate guide Overcome should have a nice battery life.
I don't know what apps people are using at the moment but it could be an app which is poorly written.

Hey guys.
I recently flashed the latest version of MIUI Mintberry onto my SGS.
It's awesome. Fast, smooth and useful.
But, my battery's been draining completely in about 5-6 hours of fair use.
I have quite a few background processes such as :
Facebook, Skype, Words with Friends, Twitter, eBay, Advanced Task Killer, Viber, and probably more hidden ones.
So :
Is there anyway to permanently close an app?
If I close Facebook, it reboots itself.
And secondly, are there any fixes/tweaks/apps/tips/etc. that's help solve my battery drain?
Thanks.
I had a crazy battery drain too, like 5-6 hours of usage and phone would die.
BUT, I removed all the email accounts (hotmail and exchange, but kept the gmails).. and it's magic !!!
I have now 75% battery left after 1day and 5 hours in wifi. It's pretty great

Make sure you do at least 3 complete battery cycles, i.e. 100% - 0% without disturbing the recharge. That will help massively. Some people say that wiping the battery ststa to start with also helps
Flash the mintberry ROM , when your phone is fully charged.
Then go to recovery and clear the battery stats .
I am on mintberry ROM , and it absolutely does not make any battery life difference compared to the stock Samsung ROM i was using
try also using green power..
I think that is ROM problem ...

What apps and widgets are you running? Have you gone through 2 or 3 full discharge/recharge cycles? There are apps out there that can detect if any app is consuming your battery but you will have to search the forums as I don't know of any first hand.
Also, which ROM are you using? When I was using Rocket Rom v22 with AbyssKernel 4.1, my Note would last more than a day on the same charge even with moderate use. Give that a try as it also really boosts performance.
I'm currently on Team Rocket Rom (ICS based) v5 but have not used it extensively to comment on battery yet. So far with 3 activesync email accounts (all push), some widgets running (weather, clock, etc.) and the Note sitting idle consume about 2-3% battery per hour. Will monitor this.
most smartphones ned to be charged every day, what battery life are you expecting to get ?
battery depends on the usage and applications you installed on the phone.
have you tried rooting already? usually custom roms have the best alternatives of extending your phone's battery and giving it an optimal performance.
Try to stop some bloatwares that your phone's loading up everytime it starts up(from rebooting)

I am using la2 rom. Here i attached an picture.
Geez... i personally feel that one day charge is reasonable especially with the juice required to drive the big display.
Anyway, Juice Defender premium is one app that has helped me, and may help you too.
Since you got Activesync, with the premium version of JD, you can customize app to be excluded from 'power saving', so that the inbox is up to date.
+1 for juicedefender.
Other tips that may not be obvious to first-time smartphone owners are:
1. Set your screen brightness to auto. You don't need the brightness cranked right up all the time.
2. Disable bluetooth and GPS if you're not using them. Juicedefender will do a pretty good job of managing your other radios.
3. If you've got email syncing set up on your phone, set it to check as rarely as you can put up with. Push email uses a LOT of battery life, and even a scheduled check can blaze through your battery if it's happening often enough.
4. If you've put on a custom ROM your phone may be reporting inaccurate battery stats. Give it a full charge, boot into clockwork recovery and wipe your battery stats. You'll find a few days after that your phone will start reporting more accurately.
Good luck, and if any of this was unclear feel free to ask further questions.

Try a later ROM to see if the same issue exists. I think you should instal rocket rom v22 - you'll be happy with performance and battery life based on your usage.
try to calibrate your battery as well... there are many apps out there that offers better battery calibration or you can do a manual calibration as well.
Give it some time and upgrade your ROM
I am getting great battery life. It runs for full day (24 hrs) with 30% of battery usage. though in a day i dont use it much, just 5 to 10 calls of around half an hour to 40 minutes.. data and gps always on.. screen brightness on auto...
My note running the OEM battery last me about 6 hrs.
Averages about 45mins talk time/day
About 50 SMS/day
Screen brightness set to 100
Checks email every 5 mins
Using a live wallpaper
Refreshes the daily weather using Accuweather every hr
Bluetooth always turned on
Battery Widget
Fancy Widget
ESPN scoreboard ticker widget refreshes
Twitter running all day
Facebook Widget syncing all day
and more...

^ This. Or better yet, just always set your brightness to the lowest brightness setting, 50% afaik. And use black/dark wallpapers and always turn on night mode (if applicable, especially when using your browser)
If in case you need to adjust the brightness, you don't have to go through the jungle of settings, just click notification bar and slide horizontally to change to your preferred brightness.
Jd is hit n miss will actually helping out. If your phone sleeps a lot jd is nice at keeping cell or wifi off if your like me and on it every 10 minutes then toggling data and other things can consume more juice. .... I have tried with and without on my tablets and phones and see no big difference depending on use.

I was pretty happy with my battery until two days ago. I use my note very little, for e-mail checking (which I pull manually) a few times a day, and to make two or three phone calls per day. I also text my kids occasionally. GPS and Bluetooth are off most of the time. Battery used to last me about two and a half days under these conditions, which seemed reasonable to me. All of a sudden, two days ago, I charged my battery, and after a full charge it drained 60% overnight. Thought that it was a fluke, so rebooted my phone, fully charged again, and the same thing (over half of the juice gone overnight) happened again. Battery stats tell me that Android OS were 100% responsible for overnight drainage. Any clues? I am on stock ROM, by the way.
Thank you.

Get a good app to check what is using the battery or keeping the phone awake. This last is the most likely.
Baddass Battery Monitor is my recommendation.
Not a single phone call, only used about 10 mins. after 21 hours only 11% left. Install Jd with 'balanced' option.

Thank you. I will give that a try.
Badass, got to love that name....
Ok, I used the Badass monitor to see what's going on. Once again, no phone usage, quick overnight battery drainage. Android OS 100% responsible, and the main power sucker is the Kernel (96%). Why is this happening? And, is there a remedy? I have changed nothing that would trigger this! My Note is still within the return window, so if there is anything wrong with it, I will return it.
Thanks again.

Badass Monitor is very useful, my note was drained by Dolphin Browser, it used 38% of battery. Seems like for this browser, if I only press home key to exit, It will keep running?
I think the reason the battery drain fast is we press 'home' key to return to main menu, that will keep a lot of apps run in the background.
Hey guy's i m not new to xda i m following threads from quit a time noe i flashed slim ics 3.2 on my i9000. The thing is i m getting average battery life around 3-4 hour when i m using wifi + facebook or just watching movie i don't know is it normal or not on idle i get around 1 day please tell me whats wrong ? when my battery got full charge it shows 1436mv from battery spy + most of the battery use is from screen phone is 4 month old i never tried gingerbread till now please help !! battery goes down 2-3 % every minutes some time one more thing i have used battery calibration and i too tried to charge battery from 0-100% many times still facing the same problem
Did you wipe the usual things before flashing?
If the battery bothers you, try to change the rom and see if the problem keeps going.
I had the same issue with my former android phone, turned out it was the battery itself and had to change it
My usage on average depending on what I am doing.
Screen on < 4 hours (possibly slightly more).
3g, Wifi, gps < 36 hours
3g, wifi, gps off. location based service off. limited phone use 3 - 4 days which is usual for me. I generally make a few calls (say 20 - 40 minutes), several sms and some time on xda, facebook, google+ (about an hour or so).
Currently on Slim 3.4.
1 day 6 hours down to 62%.
voice calls = 59 mins 33 seconds
screen on = 58 minutes
If you have things like 3g, gps, wifi etc all on these are also going drain the battery so a days is not bad either. Also make sure you aren't logged into latitude and turn off any location based stuff. Also don't overclock.
If you are worried you can try something like betterbatterystats from market or free on xda (just search for the thread) and see if you can spot anything that might be draining the battery.
That's pretty strange.
first of all, try a new wipe and install slim ics v 3.4. One of the reason I choose this rom is because the stock kernel has a wonderful battery management. So it's quite clear that something's wrong.
Could you give us the % usage?
Here are some SS i have attached i charged till 100% keept my phone idle for 2-2.5 hr 5 minutes of facebook and browser only and battery is 82 % now. I have install slim ics from some darky rom 2.3.7 from odin than dark night ics rom and than Slim ics. Please give me the stock rom link 2.3.3 for india it will be great help and please suggest what to do i even uninstall maps and email services ..

Here you can find some stock firmwares to flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881&page=1
Also: if you didn't, wipe battery stats before flashing a rom, with full percentage of battery.
To know the source of the problem, simply flash a stock firmware and if the problem doesn't get solved it must be the battery
So i flashed stock rom i used phone for 1.5hr and battery is 70% now 10 minutes facebook drop battery level 8-9% is it normal please reply ASAP

Doesn't really sound normal, post screens? If the rom is 100% stock then it must be the battery
