So.... ive been digging around this morning to no avail........
What im looking for is an app that i guess would be considered a simulated app drawer? Not a home launcher. For example, it would list all apps and allow you to run them from within itself as shortcuts just like the normal app drawer does. More specifically something that would allow the changing of said apps icons. At the moment i dont care about any battery drain side effects that using an extra app drawer app would cause.
Anyone know of anything like this?
Note: Remember im not talking about an entire home launcher, im well aware of most all home launchers and there abilities or lack there of.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: At best the closest i can come to this is to create a folder and add apps to it by dragging folder organizer shortcuts with custom icons in it into it. This is a time consuming process and needs to be manually updated every time an app is installed.
Something like Simi Folder?
Thats one option i was looking at but when it comes down to it it would basically require the same effort that folderorganizer does.
I think what i really need to do is research creating icon "packs" that i can link too that would auto assign an icon to an app. Simi is a bit more pleasing to the eye though.
Edit: haha thanks for posting that i just reread the simi folder thread and realized i missed the fact that it has support for icon packs... So does folder organizer though. I guess im kind of looking for something thats right in my face.... 0.o... Im just not to fond of trying to learn how to create icon packs... wonder if i could just mod one and sign it with a test sig...
Edit Edit: Nah after installing simi folder its actually less capable of doing what im looking for then folder organizer is.
I know you're not looking for another launcher, but have you checked out Go Launcher Ex? You can create folders inside of the app drawer with that launcher, which is what you appear to be trying to do.
If you already checked it out and it's not what you're looking for, then... at least I bumped your thread
Herp derp Captivate XDA app.
Have you tried circle launcher? It allows you to. Create a widget on the homescreen and within it you can choose what appear you want it to launch
Its.essentially like folder organizer but.with eye candy I guess. Not really sure.how else to.describe it.

I was thinking the twgtglauncher puts the app icons in tiles. Maybe you can edit that launcher. Are you trying to create a "Glowen" app drawer?

I've been using simi folder since I started using android, but it isn't really tablet optimized. In fact, you can't even get it in the marketplace on honeycomb. I like the look of app organizers in folder appearance a lot more, but the icons are really really small and you can't disable the text on the widgets as far as I van tell. Simi folder lets you have larger icon sizes and disable the text. Are there options in app organuzer that I'm missing?

Give circle launcher a try. Many options, 2:20 in my video for how I use it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiZ5EmP8h_o
I've seen demo videos of ADW where the Open/Close App Drawer button would change its icon when the drawer was open. Mine doesn't... no matter the theme applyed.
It's not a deal breaking thing, but I've always been curious as to why it doesn't work and if there's a fix for it...
For reference, see what happens here when the guy opens the app drawer at the 2:20 mark:
(I'm running Cognition 4.3, but it has never worked with the 2 other ROMs I installed... Never tested it on stock, though)
It doesn't work for me either. I don't think anything is "broken" it just had that feature at one point but all the latest versions of ADW launcher don't. Trust me I've spend many hours trying to figure this out too lol

Yeah, I searched for quite a bit before posting here... But I didn't even find anyone who had the same problem. If this is a removed feature, it's a weird decusion if you ask me.

That is just an idea

I got ninjamorph but can't find the theme apks... Which folder are they in? Thanks
This wasn't even a feature before. It was just the home icon while in the app drawer. You could not change it. ADW lost this when it became possible to change the app drawer icon. Ninja morph will not help in this situation. If you want to replace the app drawer icon just use ADW and create a custom shortcut. I highly doubt that you can have the icon change to something different while in the app drawer anymore.
I've searched through the forums, and I can't find an answer to this question:
Is there an app (or part of the framework.. or whatever is the appropriate area) that would allow me to get the look of the Android 1.6 app drawer with its slide-up/slide-out/pull-down feature? I had found one a while back (I don't remember the name.. something with panda in it, maybe), but the app was a full-fledged launcher with the drawer and the launcher wasn't any good.
I know it's a little nitpicky, but I like the UI idea of physically opening a drawer to see all my apps. If there's a way to extract it from 1.6 and drop it in, that would be ideal, but I'll admit I know next to nothing about how the Android system works.
On a side note, I'm running GB on Mosaic with Talon's kernel (at the moment), if that is of any use.
Thanks in advance, even if the answer is no.
i need same thing to, i think is called slide drawer if you find/found it please let me know (for now i found only launchers witch change all things)
The panda laucher you were talking about would be called panda home if that helps any.

Thanks. I couldn't remember the name.
Yeah, that's it - Panda Home has a drawer style called "1.5 drawer", and it's exactly what I'm looking for.
Now I need to figure out how to get that same functionality out of the Android source.
Well, not me per se - I don't know how to do that.
So I guess at this point I ask politely if there are any Android wizards out there who know how to extract the app drawer out of an old version of Android and make is something that could be dropped in a current version.
The "Tag Home Launcher" is what you are looking for. It features a slide up app drawer like in Android 1.6. Only the design of the drawer knob is a litte bit different. I'd like it to be exactly as the one in Android 1.6 but I could't get that. Tag Home is as close as I got.

Thanks for the heads-up on that launcher. It's got the drawer I'm looking for, but it looks like the same issue as Panda Home - it's part of a launcher. I'm looking for something that could either be used as a widget in place of the app drawer for whatever launcher I'm using.
The more I think about it, maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. Perhaps it would be best for me to point my request at the makers of the launcher I like, and see if they can implement it into the launcher (horse before the cart and all that). If anyone has any more ideas, I'm definitely interested, but I think this might be a moot point.
Ok, so I wanted a better email app than the stock MIUI one, and everyone keeps recommending K9 mail. Thing is, I hate the app icon for it. I worked out that I should be able to use Desktop Visualizer to create a shortcut on the desktop which points to K9, but uses another icon.
Thing is I can create a widget using DV (Long press on screen, select DVwidget etc), however I can't place widgets in the launcher bar. I tried opening the DV app and trying to create a shortcut that way, but when I hit 'Ok' to complete the operation, nothing happens. It just returns to the homescreen and no shortcut is created.
To further complicate things I have had this work once. It just randomly appeared on the desktop a few minutes after creating it, and I was able to move that into the launcher. Now I want to change the icon (again) but as you can see, I'm not having much luck.
Am I missing something here? I know MIUI doesn't have shortcuts on it's desktop, but if that was the case I don't see how I could have got it to work at all?
Any thoughts?

Yeah, i'm thinking how an app icon can invoke such a strong emotion as hate for it. Could we get a screenshot? Share the hate
I do agree that the icon is kinda ugly .
That is a terrible icon ...

What i would suggest (this is what i used to do while using MIUI), is to use an application called "App Drawer" meant specially for MIUI.

it is only as it states, an app drawer like all regular android phones.
This way you will have a dedicated app drawer & this will help in not cluttering up your home screens.
All icons on your home screen can be inserted into a single folder as these are the actual apps & not shortcuts.
Deleting would mean uninstalling.
so use the app drawer, send the shortcuts to your home screen & use any app for changing the icon like the ones inbuilt in ADW, Nova launchers.
...or you could just swap out the k9 icon for one you like. Use a theme (or make a blank one if you're fond of default) and theme the app name icon with a mail icon (or any icon) you think is nice
theme mtz - icons folder - use a .png and name it com.fsck.k9.apk
(if that doesn't work, the real app name is com.fsck.k9-1.apk)

Awesome siggy
Hi
As you may noticed, the android folders are really lame, in terms of look. However they are very practical, the drag and drop feature is very useful, and it keeps the homescreen organized.
How can I change the look of the folders, to make them look like the ios folders (where I can see what is inside without opening), without loosing the drag and drop feature?

With Holo launcher you can create folders by dragging shortcuts on top of each other and you can see the first three shortcuts of that folder on your homescreen...
swyped
I'm using Launcher Pro, and I dont want to change it, because it is really good.
I want to have that kind of folder on LauncherPro, or any other launcher for everyone to use.
Try adw ex.

The idea is not to change the laucher.
The idea is just to change the look of the existing folders on android.
just that. Is it possible? How?
Then mate you can do one thing-Do your homework.
Google is your teacher.
And patience is the skill.
I know that, but when I search that on google, it shows me folder organizer and stuff like that, not at all what I am looking for.
I'm just asking here because I know that more people have the same problem, and I was trying to see if anyone arround here knew something about it.
I wanted the same thing. There are very few "widgets" that will do this. I posted in the Epic 4G SleeperROM thread and received similar replies. Someone mentioned Circle Widgets but I didn't like that look.
I use ADW launcher and other than the look for the folders, everything is great.
