Hey guys. i was just wondering if i nandroid backup my current rom, flash a stock sprint rom (nfx stock), update my prl and radio, then flash back my nandroid backup will my kernel stay the same as the original or will it contian the kernel of the nfx stock sprint rom? Sorry if this is a noob question. I appreciate any help.
It will be the kernel you back up with nand.

Ok. I read somewhere that Nandroid does not back up your kernel but i may be wrong...
No. It installs system and data just as it was when you backup. If you use firerat mod just remember to change partitions again.

I Believe... the Only thing that Changes the Kernel is the Rom itself, Unless of course you Manually Flash a Different one!

Probably a dumb question, but is it possible to restore apps etc. in cwm after flashing a new rom? Im on stock jpa now, and wondering about trying the new jpu 2.2.1. If its possible, how do you do it? Advanced restore after flashing and restore what?
Thanks

hey
I have also the same question..I am now on DocRom 7.6.2 with corrupted /system but I did not run into any problem so far, but now everybody is totally excited about JPU so I decided to flash this new Rom but I do not want to reinstall every application..but I think it is possible to restore the /data partition because it only stores the applications. But I do not know for sure..
I hope somebody knows it
Let me know if you find out. Thanks

I recently flashed the purity rom which is a .893 rom. I have a backup of my stock rooted rom. If I restore that backup will it work or is there an issue going back to stock???

Should be no issue. The custom roms do not change your baseband or the kernel. So those things are unchanged. When it says it's based on the .893 leaked OTA, it is referring to the "system" part of the leak only. The system on these phones can be overwritten easily.
I just bought a captivate. I rooted and unlocked it ( now t- mobile) . When I go to rom manager to make a recovery it doesn't recognize my device. Only gives option for i9000, epic, fascinate. What do I need to do to make a backup/ recovery?

Unfortunately there isn't an official clockworkmod recovery for the captivate. You'll need to either flash a kernel with cwm already embedded, or manually load up cwm on your SD card. What stock ROM are you on atm?

Sorry you sorta wrong on some things. There isn't official CWM for GB or Froyo. But there is for Eclair. Sounds like he is on GB at the moment. You are correct about having to flash a kernel with CWM in it.
I stand corrected...but yes unless your still on eclair or restore back to eclair, there isn't an official cwm

Yea, I am on GB 2.3.5 baseband UCKK4. I also have a vibrant.I am really surprised at how different the two phones are. I would like to put a custom rom on the cappy. What rom would you suggest? Kernel?

Suggesting ROMs ins't allow because you will most likely get arguing. Flash Corn Kernel and try out some custom stock ROMs if you don't know what you're doing. If you have an idea. I suggest ANY of the ICS ROMs
I would like a stable ICS rom. PM me with any suggestions.

Going through files in root browser I found a clockwork mod file. Also a zip vcremoveboot-CWM.zip. Not sure what it is? Ideas....

vcremoveboot is the revert zip for voltage control, in case you have unstable settings applied at boot.

Depends if your backup includes the boot.
If it does then yes, if not then no
But its not a problem, if your backup does not include the kernel then just flash the kernel you are on now...you know which one you are on,
I guess I am on stock as its the rooted stock rom I am on, where do I find just the kernel?

Just flash a stock ftf and exclude everyting except the kernel...I have one backed up somewhere, but not here...I can post it another time, but you can just do what i said.
Also, look in yout backup file. If it includes a boot.img you should be fine to flash that recovery image and it should restore the kernel

thats a link to a stock kernel, its not mine, but it says its stock unmodified...
Hello, my friend give me an HTC Dream G1 "TIM" (it's italian) with a custom rom with Android 2.2 Froyo and CWM recovery. It's possible to return back to Android 1.0 stock rom? There is a guide? Thanks in advance!
Did he manage to make a nandroid backup of the ROM? If so just restore in recovery after a clean wipe
If not than you would have to start fresh by flashing the dreaming.nbh
