[Q] Is there a one click root for the new froyo? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will the one click root for Froyo work with the just released version of Froyo (IE Feb 24)?
The one click rooting tool I mean can be found here.

The old one for Eclair doesn't work anymore and gives an e certificate error.

it should work fine. just follow the instructions. i didnt see any real changes to the rooting method that was used in JI6....
just go with a custom rom, they will be faster than stock and without the ATT bloat anyway...and its rooted for you

I too am unable to root the O/S after updating to Official FroYo...
Following all procedures available to root leads to the following error -
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Looking for a way around this... Other than having to flash back to Eclair... I kind of want to give the Official Froyo a run.
Any ideas?

Samsung uses a different signature verification for froyo, so things that are intended for android 2.1 no longer work, i suggest the oneclick lag fix, it is available in the android market for free
Thats where I got if from, the market, and having this issue
you have to manually root the phone, and the process is different for 2.2
If you're running JPK, the root method is here

Stock FRG83D [Untouched]

Just a quick question,
I did some searching around the forum and I didn't have any luck so maybe I wasn't searching the correct build or maybe there was a link I missed. I'm just wondering if there is an untouched version of FRG83D available for flashing?
Thanks.

You can extract the stock image for FRG83 from here: http://dl4.htc.com/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/signed-passion-img-FRG83_0923.zip and then apply the FRG83D update from here http://android.clients.google.com/p...signed-passion-FRG83D-from-FRG83.ecb21b75.zip (via recovery)
You are just trying to get stock FRG83D, right?
If you just want the update...
Kaiba provide the FRG83 to FRG83D update zip. If you're on FRG83, just rename to update.zip, place on root of card, and flash via recovery.
If you're on any other ROM, follow the unroot/restore guide in the wiki...

Tried that.
I am on stock FRG83 using Amon_RA 1.7.0.1 and getting
E: No signature (177 files)
E: Verification Failed
when trying to flash.
(downloaded from the two links above getting the same file and the same results)
Ideas?
Thanks..

Thanks for your reply.
My phone is rooted.
The original poster's question, and my question too, is how do we upgrade a stock, rooted, but otherwise untouched (e.g. not deodexed) N1 from FRG83 to FRG83D.

Agreed. I'm not looking to flash a "stock" rom. Just upgrade my stock FRG83 to 83D.
You need to be using Amon_RA 1.8 or higher (or the latest ClockworkMod) to flash a Google-signed updated. Any earlier version and you will get a signature verification fail.
Download the FRG83->FRG83D stock update.
Install Amon_RA's 2.0.0 recovery.
Turn off signature verification in the recovery.
Flash the stock update.
You might not retain root. If you're unrooted - reboot to recovery and flash superboot. If you lose the recovery too - then root again using SuperOneClick or whatever.
Thread of 2 pages... Can't believe it.
Thanks efrant, Jack_R1.
Will try soon.

Where were you till now? ;-)
All done. Now on FRG83D.
Lost root, lost recovery + had to get rid of /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Wasn't too bad, but a full stock rooted rom would be easier.
Thanks again..
Yeah I lost Wifi so its alright.. jk.

I thought it was odd how there was no clear answer till you came.
I did what you said, i have Amon's 2.0 recovery installed, disabled verification, and tried to flash the zip. I got a Status 7 error, assert failed: apply_patch_check
I also got errors with Amon-Ra 1.8.0 installed.
FRG83 produced errors because i deletet some stock apps like browser.apk. I found here a modified update.zip and could update.
This time with the org. FRG83D update.zip i get the same error. But i cant find a modified zip here....
Can someone help or missed i a thread with the modified zip?

Are you running a stock ROM? Is it deodexed? Did you delete any apps? If you are trying to flash the original signed update, for it to flash, you need to be running a stock, odexed ROM with all the original apps still present.

[Q] Help with rooted N1 wont take OTA 2.2.1 update

Hey everyone,
I rooted my nexus one when it was 2.2, now im trying to update to 2.2.1. However the OTA update wasnt taking, it failed and the installation aborted everytime. I search forums and found one saying to factory reset my phone, which i did. Saved everything with titanium backup. Now im stuck with:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Kernal version:2.6.29-01117-g4bc62c2 android-build apa26#1
Build nuumber: EPE76
One problem is i do not get an OTA update to upgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.1. Also i did a manual update with signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip and it fails and installation aborts. How can i get back to at least 2.2, but preferably 2.2.1.
Also when trying to restore my apps from titanium backup, it tells me my phone is not rooted, but I still see the little "padlock" unlocked when i boot my phone.
Thanks, hope someone can help
John
What recovery are you using?
fastboot, then recovery, used a zip i downloaded from another forum that gave me build epe76. just renamed it to undate.zip and let the phone do the work.
What recovery are you using? Stock? Clockworkmod? Amon_RA?
i guess just stock, all i do is fastboot the phone and hit recovery
Have you tried ROM Manager?
yes but i am getting an error that my phone is not rooted. Although it is, the padlock is open when i boot the phone. If I root it again will i be able to install 2.2?

There you go.
Unlocking the phone is one thing. Rooting is another. You need to root it over again, but it should be easier this time since you do not need to unlock your bootloader.
ok i will try but before i do should i upgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.1 first then root it again? Because that was my problem originally, i rooted it when it was 2.2 and could not get do the OTA update to 2.2.1 to work the installation aborted with an error every time.
No, root the phone first. Then you can put whatever the hell ROM you want.
It's like putting your pants on first, then your shoes.
Yeah root first cuz most of the custom rom already jumps to 2.2.1

Also, if you root first, you can make a full backup before doing anything else...

[Q] Can't update to official 2.3.4

Hi, this problem really affected be for one months, I don't know can I asking such question in here but I can't find anybody to help me.
When I accepted the OTA update it rebooted the phone and installation started but soon i was getting a triangle with exclamation sign in it sign on my screen. I tried serval time and the results are the same.
Then, I decided to update my N1 to 2.3.4 maunally. I've follow the procedure but some messages have been shown.
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system
assert failed: apply_patch_check(“/system/fonts/DroidSansFallback.ttf”, …..)
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
P.s. My Build Number: GRI40 and the N1 are 100% stock rom
what should I do now?
Thanks all!
Follow the unroot/restore guide in the wiki...
Dear danger-rat
Thanks for your reply, but i never rooted my N1 before
Doesn't matter. The guide just does a clean install of the stock ROM, which is going to get you back to a working phone...

Is it doesn't matter restore stock Froyo ROM if my N1 version is 2.3.3 because i just find out FRG83 ROM from wiki
Is there any methods to reinstall my 2.3.3 ROM?
Ya just do what he said with the 2.2.1 and update back the 2.3.3.
Basically, once you get the stock Froyo on your phone, the updates will follow shortly afterwards...

[Q] Is there a rooted NVFlashable Stock HoneyComb ROM for DS7 Tmobile 4G?

I have tried upgrading using the method posted here but I keep getting an error: "FOTA Name mismatch". (I used method one).
Also, I was unable to get the stock 2.2 rooted using the super one click method, in order to install the CWM and try the method 2.
I have been working on these for hours and I am at my wits ends.
Here, is my question: Is there an NVFlash method that will get me to a rooted stock honeycomb?
Thanks for your help.
P.S: I have been using Steve's HoneyStreak R7 but the battery life has been terrible. I downgraded to stock 2.2 to get the official HoneyComb upgrade but have not been successful.
to answer your last question, no. To root froyo on ds7 use gingerbreak.

Method one works, if you get the FOTA mismatch then you flashed the incorrect recovery. I used method one. BUT there is a problem, rooting stock Honeycomb I get some random reboots, if I stay stock unrooted it runs fine
Gingerbreak worked for me after flashing back to 2.2 with NVFlash.
