[Q] Amazing Slow Downer for WP7? - HD7 General

As a music major I use the Amazing Slow Downer a lot. But I dont want to lug around my laptop everywhere to practice. As for mobile devices, Apple is the only one to carry the program in their marketplace.
You guys know any other similar program that I could find in the Windows Marketplace?

What's keeping you from not switching to the IPHONE 3G S?

I am looking more and more and I see that the Iphone is pretty fast and rounds well in terms of multimedia features.
They also claim it's great for work.
Now what is making you not switch to this device?
I'm curious to see your opinions!
All in itself!!!!!
I´m so happy with WM with all its defects and unlimited personalization and now with Rhodium you cant compare it to iphoney
It´s the 52nd thread about something related to iphoney
Im with you paisa!
All the winmo customization makes this devicesmore interesting... we had many apps to switch if we have more new features even in open GNU, no unlocks for everything you want...
If you said that the iphone is a powerfull toy in multimedia features... well its truth but... the speed or animation is not the only feature you may search in a "smartphone" remote desktop... internet sharing... obviously 3G multimedia player for almost all the codecs! well not so... this devices cant play .VOB
and the preferable Windows office doc xls and ppt or many DB apps in it editable and pdf by adobe direct app. encoding the avi is the nicer thing to rip your dvd's or Blue ray or... Matroska MKV nice def and low size!!! amazing isnt it?
Mp3 at loud! MKA... wma or whatever you want, GPS!!!
SO....so much why I am happy with Windows mobile devices, Iphone is just... that... a pretty phone... well manufactured by the famous Apple... thats all.
oups did I say gb, gba, nes, snes, sega emulator... Oh! **** even Playstation emulator! hahaha, Java is just the beginig of your boring days.
WM and XDA All the Way!
Here's a already started thread for info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3928679#post3928679
switching to the IPHONE is as same as quitting from XDA
our WM device is absolutely irreplaceable (too many historical value inside 1 or 8 GB in our Storage Card)
well..WM is kind of a nation and identity, no matter how good and bad it is, but that is my soul (i'm proud to have it)
I probably shouldn't answer this thread but I will!!!
I have an ipod touch and have had WM phones since the magician, I also borrowed my mates iphone 3g while he was abroad for a fortnight to see what I thought of it. Iphones are well executed devices, the appstore is neat as is the ability to easily download music over the air, but you know what, after a week I was bored with it!!
The TD2 I have now just works and I can change the way it looks without "jailbreaking" etc.
My plan costs less than half the cost of the iPhone plan, and includes unlimited texts.
That's pretty much the only thing keeping me on WM. Of course, if an Android phone comes out that works on SERO, I'll jump.
Well the big reason im not getting it is the fact that my business discount doesn't apply towards the iphone plans.. bleh... but I'm happy with the WM progress with 6.5 and TF3D.. give it couple years MS will catch up to iphone..

A couple years.... is goodbut hopefully sooner. WM6.5 isn't as pretty but it works and will hold us over till WM7....
then again the Iphone is still playing catchup as well..... MMS, Tethering... Finally but not for AT&T.....
video(about time), 3MP camera(Meh... 5MP minimum nowadays), uh, I'm missing a lot here..... But they finally caught up.... look apple finally put SD card slots on their laptos too.
or maybe MS will enter to iphone!
like Mac OS few years ago, with "Office for MAC"
Mac OS just has a WORKS app that emulates the spreadsheet the text documents and the Presentations like PPT then MS makes Office for MAC! jajaja imagine how much does MS can do with money and popularity!
My wife has an iphone 3g (non "S" lol), and I have my old faithful Hermes100.
To eliminate any perception of bias, here's my home. My server, 2 personal comps, and my two work comps all run linux, I have an old imac that serves as a bedside entertainment center (50 pound fancypants dvd player) and iphone sync'r, and my firewall runs FreeBSD. The only Windows I run is either paravirtualized or on my phone. I can't wait to make my linux HTPC and linux car-puter.
I think I would rather have HTC's latest slicker-than-snake-s**t WinMo phone over apple's latest anything anyday. Unless cost was no option, in which case I'd have both. Obviously a phone that could run *nix, or windows mobile, or (heh) iphone's OS would be the most attractive to me. I don't think I'll see that happen anytime soon.
When she first got her iphone, I told her I was going to need to jailbreak it to be able to install an openvpn client so she could access stuff at home remotely. At least with Windows Mobile I could write a hello world, compile it, and run it on my phone right out of the box. Oh, and I can cancel my data plan if I want to.
Freedom - gotta love it
Easy answr!
No customization, not for real geeks, its just a pretty looking mp3 player and phone.
not for biz users, plus who the heck PAYS for these apps? I mean who would buy a twitter app for iphone that is free for every other phone? that there is reason enough not to change for me.
If i were changing it would be android, but i would still be on htc devices and have WinMo as y 'other' or vice versa.
iPhone is a yuppie phone for multimedia lovers, thats it!
HTC will keep me from switching to apple (eww). I've never really liked Apple in the first place.
WM, HTC, & XDA will keep me happy!
Iphone not my cup of tea.
I've just converted to android this morning - dumping my WinMo crap now because I *love* my new G1.
There's some nice touches borrowed from the iphone but it feels a little less wrapped in cotton wool than an iphone...but not quite as edgy and unstable as a WinMo device
Smiffy.
I do not enjoy having EVERYTHING ruled by Apple. You have to pay for ringtones (Android allows you to make them on the phone). Most of the apps are paid apps on the Iphone. The G1 may not do everything that the iphone does, but the things it does do, it does better than the iphone. I will admit, I sometimes have apple envy when Im messing with my friends iphone, but it fades quickly when I hear him ***** about not being able to tether (without a $60 plan), or about having to use crappy ringtones, or not having a landscape keyboard, or countless other things.
I do think that the iphone is sexier, and I know that it has alot of cool accessories (I love the ifrogz).
However until Apple is a little less vigilant about keeping things locked up tightly. I will stick with my G1, and I will stick with my Zune.

Good post Dredge. Ii agree there are some nice things about the iPhone. The slimness compared to the Pro but the slide out keyboard makes up for that! The iPhone does rule in one thing though and that's the web browsing. It is exactly like on a computer where the Sprint phones, up UNTIL the Pre , where not easy to navigate. I went and played with the Pre and it is likke the iPhone as far as ease of use with the web. I wish the Pro would release an update to make web browsing better. We'll see. But the HTC whips the iPhone is everything else!

Dredge,
I completely agree with you hardware wise. Only Apple's can make the handset that run this wonderful OS. So, there is no reason for HTC, Samsung, LG, Acer and the rest to want it to succeed. In fact, it is natural for any of those hardware supporter to hate iPhone. Supporting iPhone would tentamount to closing their own smartphone business completely.
However, your perception regarding inability to change and add free ringtone is not accurate. I can get countless free ones. Also, most applications on Applestore are very very cheap or free. Of course, Cydia applications are also mostly free.
Before 3.0, landscape keyboard is not globally available and had to be achieved with third party software (e.g., in email and SMS). This of course will change with OS3.0.
Tethering is possible already with jailbroken phone. With non-jailbroken new iPhone, it is the Carrier who's disabling it, and not the limitation of iPhone itself. AT&T really need to raise its bar! I think the backlash against it would grow, and rightly should.
BTW, is AT&T not placing similar restriction for G1 customer?
erm... MONEY lol i got my XDA for free and the iphone is very expensive for what it is, lol.

Pocket Fritz 4

Hello there,
this may be a little off-beat, but does anyone know if you can install and use pocket fritz 4 (or another top program, like shredder) on the Hero?
I have no idea!!
FRITZ?
...i wish i could take FRITZ with me wherever i went...although the only FRITZ i know of is the Gentlemens club down the street haha.
...sorry couldnt help
Hahaha got me there. I could have been a little more specific. There's more info on the program here:
Link
It says on the page: System Requirements: Pocket PCs or mobile phones with Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5, 6.1, 6.0, 5.0 or Windows Mobile 2003 with Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition. Touch screen. For installation: Windows PC with DVD drive. For activation: internet access (from the device or through your Windows PC).
So I guess you really need a windows mobile? Thats a big bummer! Is there a way to get a .cab working on a android-phone (thats not too complicated, so even a noob like me understands?)
Why wold you want that. The graphics are not that good. I have a Windows Mobile HTC Touch Diamond, that runs the NEXUS ONE Android(2.1)(the live wallpapers version) and on the A. Market there are a lot of chess apps that have a good user interface. But I was just giving you an idea.

Hiya!
Yup, I know there are some other chessprograms, but if you want to analyse a game on the go, I don't think there are much alternatives. Pocket Fritz is simply the best, and maybe even the only one that can analyse a position
the best
hi all ,
yes ! of course pocket fritz 4 is the best and ultimate, and hero of chess in ppc land !
with an elo perfomance near 2938! super grand master ! this means it playse and analaises
more powerful than Gary kasparov !
only for that ,I have stuckked with
windows mobie yet !
Shredder Chess recently released an Android version of the Shredder application. While I don't think it's quite as powerful as Fritz, it does offer you game analysis at a pretty strong level on your Android. It's EU5.99, so about 7 or 8 dollars, which isn't too bad. I've paid for it and it's a very high quality application.

BlackBerry OS on Xperia?

i heard theres something out there that can allow us to use BBOS on our windows mobile phones.. they have it working for the touchpro i think?
this would be great because everyone i know has a blackberry and they use the BBM crap (blackberry messenger) so its much easier to get in contact with them if i have that too. id rather use this amazing piece of hardware instead of a crappy blackberry so i just wanted to know if anyone has done it or knows about putting BBOS on xperia?
its called the blackberry application suite, only for windows mobile, i seen pics of it online since early 2009, not sure if it was ever completed... and yea, blackberry is crap, especially where there is 3g lol

Question From Iphone 4 User

Hello all, Im currently using an Iphone 4, its a great phone, dont get me wrong, but I hate the way apple have such tight control over it. Im looking at buying an HTC HD7, but haven't used the phone yet. Im just really looking advice from anyone who has used at lenght, or has an Iphone 4, and is moving to Windows Phone 7.
Cheers
Having just moved over from an iPhone 4, I'm in a pretty good position to give you some info.
1. Phone itself is great (I found the iPhone4's screen beautiful, but way too small to be practical for my needs)
2. The WP7 interface is MUCH better than the grid on iOS4, especially the LIVE tiles.
3. WP7 is still pretty locked down, but I can see that changing. If you're on a none jailbroken iP4, there's not much difference.
4. App amount seems to be growing by the day, but as this is a fresh OS there's nothing on it yet compared to the IP4. However, the apps that are on WP7 are awesome. The Facebook app is the best Facebook app on any phone I've used.
5. The execution and intergration of facebook, LIVE, Messenger etc is VERY well done on this phone. If you are a social person, you'll love it.
6. There are some limitations, some of which are annoying and will take some adapting.
Overall, I think the OS-side of things is superior to an untouched iP4's iOS4. It does need work, but the foundations are solid. Apps will come (Especially with the Dev budget MS has thrown at the WP7 platform)
As with all early adapters, you'll experience some frustrating times and a lack of features, so it depends what you're after really.
Thanks for the super fast reply. What are the limitations you talk about? I find the Iphone a Cr&p phone, but pretty good for internet surfing, that is what I do mostly, with a little bit of angry birds thrown in for good measure. The only other program use a lot is Nike plus for tracking runs, but I suppose it didnt take long for Android to have something similar, so I imagine Windows phone 7 will have a similar app soon.

My surfing experience so far has been good. Again, there's no flash or silverlight yet and a lack of HTML 5. However, Adobe have confirmed Flash is coming for WP7, we just need an official statement from MS now....I'm predicting it will be in the Jan 2011 update along with Copy & paste.
Like I say, the apps are popping up fairly quickly to say the least. If you like the occassional game, the HD7 screen real-estate is a big plus there. The quality of the games on WP7 looks very promising indeed (In my opinion, better than iP4 games, and this is Dev's first releases!)
Rovio will no doubt release Angry birds on the platform as well.
As for the tracker, I haven't seen one in the marketplace as of yet, but that's because I've been messing around too much with the Xbox LIVE games
Microsoft don't seem to be as controlling as Apple and so within a few updates you should be more free than if you were using an iPhone.
The fact that HTC & Samsung are making the phones is always a plus as then you have a choice instead of having to pick from one phone.
Defo think im going to give the HTC HD7 a go. Worst case scenario I buy a Ipod touch to use the stuff I was used to. I always adapt early, just sometimes I get frustrated with slow progress. Hope the microsoft app store doesnt go like the palm pre did thought.
How is the screen in comparison ? I am hoping its better than the Evos. I know it won't be as nice as the Vibrants just dont want the washed look.

How MS is going to allow flash when they moved away from ActiveX, and I haven't heard they would want to introduce it - it is by far the easiest transport to deliver spyware, malware and viruses to your device.

[Q] Google Voice, Skype, GPS, etc. Apps?

Hi - I just purchased a HD7, have a Android phone (HD2) and Blackberry Bold, but wanted to know if there is anything working for wifi calling.
I know this does not have UMA, but wifi calling like Skype or Google Voice?
The marketplace in Windows 7 I don't like because I don't think I see a sort feature by like 'free' vs 'paid' , etc.
I don't see Skype, see some 3rd party Google Voice stuff with bad reviews and don't see Google Maps.
The TeleNav on the phone from T-mobile requires a monthly subscription which i don't want.
Anyone know apps/etc. that are out there that would suit what I'm looking for here.
Thanks
the best free app I've found for navigation is "xMaps". It's pretty clunky and seems to lack turn-by-turn navigation but at least it works as a basic map. There might be something better availble as far as paid apps go, but I never venture into the paid apps section becase I'm cheap
I hope the app selection gets better with time and that T-Mobile finally rolls out that damned NoDo update!
EDIT: Also, there is a way to sort the list between Free and Paid apps. When you've selected the category of apps you want and the list has been populated, swipe the screen to the left 3 times until you reach the "Free" section.
I've just got an Hd7, 16gb. At first i thought this looks good but is absolute rubbish after my HTC touch pro 2-- can't sync with my PC, can't have TomTom, can't have Google Maps, can't have Opera or Skyfire or Firefox, can't have BBC iPlayer, can't have PDF reader or Flashplayer. What's wrong with these people at Microsoft, don't they know how phones are used!???. BUT is IS a very good phone and very nice to use, has a great screen and plays videos well. I've found you can sync it rather awkwardly via windows live and skydrive. Why do they want to make life more difficult?
I believe the features you mention that are lacking are to come in future updates.
Remember... as far as OS goes, WP7 is just a baby learning to walk. I had to wait for flash on my Galaxy S from the froyo update and iPhone will NEVER have it so as far as those features go... hold your horses. Lol...
I love my android and I am really liking my hd7 as well for different reasons. Once the updates start to come you will be pleasently surprised I believe.
PS... you can sync the phone via PC through Zune. Download the software and follow the instructions...

Not if your on a Mac like me. Good thing I also own a PC but this HD7 still sucks ass! Good thing I still own all my Android phones tho. The only time this phone comes out my pocket now is if I wanna watch NetFlix. Other than that my SIM card will be in one of my Android phones getting me thru the day.
you can also sync on a mac look on mac appstore for Windows Phone 7 Connector.

Well... I hope that once the updates start rolling out that u will have a better experience . I kept my Galaxy S for the sake of being able to customize it and stuff and I got the hd7 for its simplicity and class. I think that this will be one of thebest devices ever once ms starts to roll out the updates and if the hd2 is any indication... I think this will be the next HTC superphone once the devs start working their magic.

Thanks for that. I can live without some of the previous stuff but I need TomTom also I need a program like WMwifirouter for this OS. I've been using my TP2 connecting my laptop wirelessly to the Net when away for over a year now and it's a great little program. Anyone know a way with an HD7 to use it as a modem?

90% of the things you list are third party applications. It isn't that WP7 CAN'T have them, it's just that at less than 6 months old, it DOESN'T have them... yet.
Did you actually LOOK for Adobe Reader? Cause it's there in the marketplace and has been forever.

I like your optimism but the facts are a bit more complex than that; the marketplace is available only in 20 countries (roughly 10% of the total) and this is a very serious issue.
Take iGO 8 for instance, it was developed by the Hungarians, do you honestly believe they will commit resources to port their brilliant software to a platform not even available in their native country?
I want to have a state of the art OS but WP7 is so crippled that is no match for the competition.
I still hope for a better future for my HD7 but when? When?
