Hey guys, I found this deal this morning on twitter and I figured you might find it interesting for those of you who don't have Netflix subs yet. If you sign up through this site http://studentrate.com/StudentRate/bu/get-bu-student-deals/Netflix-Student-Discounts--/0 they send you a $10 check, which makes your first month free. I think you might need to be a student with a .edu address to sign up but not sure. Enjoy!
thank you, worked for me.
Sweet ! I am currently on free trial so I guess i m just gonna cancel that and then sign up my boyfriend so it won t be the same name.. Thanks
niceee, thanks op
Netflix is already cheap as it is but with this deal it s a real bargain
wat is netflicks
I use Netflix to stream movies and TV shows on my PS3 but you can also have DVDs mailed to you if you want to. Cool thing is that you can use the same username and password on like 3 computers/systems so we are just sharing it with my siblings. dirt cheap in the end!

dont u have enuff garbage in your mind as it is ?
Netflix is way cheaper than cable especially when you split it with your roomates in college, I think this is a great deal
I wonder when my rebate is supposed to get here
So you get a $10 rebate which makes the 1st month free...so Netflix is only like $10 a month?? I spend $20-$30 a month renting movies ondemand.

Netflix has so many TV shows on demand it's awesome
Dexter!!!!
What about HBO shows? Can you get those through Netflix?
I was searching on Netflix to see what shows they have, they have Entourage and True Blood seasons so I'm guessing they'll have other HBO shows. I'm pumped.
They do have HBO shows. only thing about netflix is that sometimes they just take the shows off the streaming list and u have no idea. so it sucks if you re in the middle of watching a season
I watched an entire season of Lie to me this weekend... thanks netflix!
I got this deal and I have no complaints about Netflix so far

The Fandango app in beta is out on the android market now!!
I just got done playing with it. It's good, but Flixster is better in literally every way except one: with Fandango's app you can buy tickets from pretty much anywhere. Flixster's pretty limited in which theaters you can buy from.
But honestly, I don't buy tickets online. Screw convenience fees, that's just stupid. So I'm definitely sticking with Flixster.
Gonna use Fandango for buying tickets and Flixster for movie reviews and basically everything else . Lets see if they do more with fandango in the future.

Couldn't agree more! I just don't understand the moronic logic of fandango... "Let's see, how can we entice people to buy online instead of at the theater where they are going anyways? Oh, I know, let's charge them MORE!"
Never thought of it that way LOL

The logic is that if you want to go to a movie on opening night you buy them online so you reserve your space and not risk getting to a sold out movie.
Sure you can drive on earlier and just purchase them before hand but with the price of gas now a days you'd end up spending the same on the drive + added time of travel.
There's also the convenience of not having to stand in line, which is sometimes pretty long.
You pay a little extra for convenience
See, that's why you go there an hour or two before, buy the tickets, then go to dinner before the movie. Maybe it's different where you live, but the only way a movie is going to be sold out an hour before it plays is if it's a HUGE movie.
I don't know. I realize it's convenient, and I like convenience. But unless they can show me that the extra charge is necessary to cover additional costs on their part, I can't support the concept of the "convenience fee." It's just an extra charge for extra profit, because they can.
Anyway, enough of my ranting. I'm looking forward to seeing what Fandango does with their app too, but I have serious doubts it'll out-do Flixster in anyplace other than ticket buying.
tickets are already 8.50 here in austin.. why would i wanna pay more lol..

How about the convenience of being able to order from ANYWHERE. You know, it takes money to run their online servers and their web site to provide a service. Not to mention the money spent for developers to make apps for different mobile platforms. If you don't want to pay a convenience fee and go pick it up, fine. To some people (like myself), I see it as a waste of time to go there and pick up tickets just so I don't come back two hours later to a sold out show.
That's great, go for it. Your choice, you know? I just don't personally like paying a dollar for the "convenience" of it.
Besides--and maybe this isn't true about theaters where you others live--don't most theaters allow you to prepurchase tickets directly from them via phone or internet? I usually go to a Kerasotes theater and it looks like they don't charge any convenience fees for buying their tickets online...
Pretty freaking awesome especially if you already have an amazon account. Important to first enable it thru your account and then install or update the app on your phone

Also if you purchase 1 mp3 album from them they will automatically upgrade your 5GB to 20GB for free for one year. And songs purchased from them don't count towards your data allotment. I bought an album that was 3.99 and got upgraded instantly.

As usual Australia gets shafted
im all over this. thanks for the heads up
Yeah this could be pretty cool. I love Pandora, but there are plenty of times I want to control what I listen to. I can fit an "ok" amount of music in the 5GB. Pretty good idea to buy an album for the 20GB. Still will not come close to holding all of my music, but good enough for the road.
I think I'll stick with serving up my own collection with Audio Galaxy. Good find on the one year 20G deal, though.

so after I opened up amazon mp3 and looked at the top albums, I noticed there was a cheap one for some glee song, I figured I get it to see it if it would give me the 20gbs. so I picked one my wife would like, and for a $1.39 or whatever it cost for the 1 song album I got the 20gb drive.
yeah I bought the top selling .69 song and got the one year free trial too

+1 for AudioGalaxy, my (relatively small) music collection is 12 GB, so it won't fit on Amazon's 5 GB free solution. But, there is no need for Amazon Cloud - with AG, I can stream my entire music collection from my computer to any other computer, my phone, my G-Tab, etc. Without having to upload it all to a server. For free! AG rules!
Got this couple of days ago and am loving it

But does that mean you have to leave your computer on all the time to use AudioGalaxy?
I'm mainly thinking when I'm traveling this would be good. But then again, why wouldn't I just have an mp3 player with me? I'm mainly thinking of using this as storage ala drop box. Just one more place to store stuff. And maybe my "emergency" playlist.

Yeah the computer has to be on, that's true, but I leave it on all the time anyway.
Be very careful WHICH mp3 files you upload to this service.
By using it, you have agreed to allow Amazon to inspect, analyze and report to the authorities what music you have.
In other words, unless you bought the music from Amazon, be prepared to prove you own it. In court possibly. That would be federal court, btw.

yeah they need to inspect it to be able to add the tags and cd cover for the player.

Not sure bout your country but here we have prepaid visa, you go buy one with a certain amount on it and use it like a normal visa, we also have visa debit, which can be attched like a normal account that uses your funds but uses the visa network to process payments.
I am sure there will be some kind of solution for you. Some carriers also allow purchasing on your phone bill.

you should still beable to access it through xfinity appon 360. try it if it works holler. so far i was able to hack media center 7 and add a redirect to hbogo.com i can get it to load fine. but alas no mouse controls on extender. so i cant log in or select anything. it just sits there and teases me lol. pisses me off as well. i can get it on my phone my tablet. but not the 360 total b.s i could buy a adapter for my 3d or tablet to hdmi but i dont wanna have to keep getting up to select stuff. be nice to use xbox.
another reason why PS3 beats 360. Just trade in for a ps3..its better in every way.

Who's getting one?! I think this thing has a lot of potential to make some waves:
http://lifehacker.com/chrome-unveils-the-chromecast-an-hdmi-stick-for-stream-897062318
I was hoping it would let you mirror your device but it basically turns your Tablet/PC/Laptop/Android into a remote. Allowing you to queue up videos and send them to your tv wirelessly. I think it's pretty cool that you can queue up stuff and continue to use your device for other things. Perhaps someone will be able to hack it so it can mirror your android device?

For those who ordered one what is the ship date you received?
I ordered one receipt says will ship by August 7th. I hope it ships sooner. I am guessing it will.

Some Best Buys have them on sale now. I called the one near me they said they would have them tomorrow morning.
https://plus.google.com/u/0/communit...89684481707861
I just checked Best Buys website and with my silver premier membership if I used next day shipping for $3 it would arrive between July 26th and 29th. Expedited said arrival would be July 27th to 30th.
EDIT: Just checked again and now it's showing sold out online. Was still in stock 5 to 10 minutes ago.

People have been reporting that they just walked into best buy yesterday evening and asked for them and was able to purchase them. During the announcement yesterday, they said it would be available at Best buy starting on the 28th. Seems like most stores already have them in stock, you just have to ask for it specifically.
I grabbed mine at Best Buy this afternoon on Long Island. It's really awesome, especially with the 3 free months of Netflix. You can stream local media on it as well. I'm using Plex media server for that, and you can also stream Amazon Prime Video too, so it's a really versatile solution for really cheap.

Got mine from best buy this afternoon. Best buy doesn't put it on the floor anywhere. You have to ask the sale.
So far, netflex and youtube are working great. however casting from chrome browser is like a joke. very very choppy. I tried it from my laptop, chromebook, the result is un-useable.
Wish more native apps will be release soon.

To be fair, I believe that the "cast a tab" functionality is still in beta. Perhaps it will be optimized with time and performance may improve. Also, it uses 2GHz wifi bands, so it could potentially be affected by other 2GHz devices in the area.

That is true. if chrom url can redir to receiver side, and disconnect from sender, that would a good start.
Best Buy
Best buy is where it is at. shopping cart by customer service. what a great deal. using chrome to stream i am on my desktop over 40 foot from my rougher on my desktop pc pushing video files with no problem. also the tv is 15 ft from the rougher that is 40 ft from my desktop. also i have found when pushing from phone or tablet you can reboot and netflix keeps on playing. i give it 12 stars out of 10 great job google. i hope soon we could do screen share from our devices or pc's {playing games on a device that is charging with moga pro! That would be sick!!}
I just picked one up at Best Buy. They still had a few left in stock.
They also gave me the 3-months of Netflix (it prints out on the receipt). Pretty nice since that promotion was discontinued. I didn't really have a particular need for it, but at $11 (after Netflix discount), it was a no brainer.
