Which app are you all using for tethering? I can't seem to get the wireless one to work, the wired one looks good, but not sure if it works with the HERO. There are two in the market, one is pda net which ive used, but it breaks up every few minutes and there is easy tether, but I haven't used that.
I think all you need is Htc sync installed to use the wired tether. I use the wireless tether just fine, you just have to experiment on which one works best for you. Try the 1.5 wireless tether.. Provided your hero is rooted.
**edit**
Heres website
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
You need HTC Driver installed for wired tether, and you also need the 2.11 PRI from one of the Eris ROMs.
yes, im rooted running fresh toast. Should I still use the one for 1.5?
Unless someone else knows about an update, There is currently issue with wireless tether and fresh toast. Like the ability to enable the wireless tether but the phone will lock up when disabling.
didn't the eris PRI cause problems before?
Only with Sprint NFL and Nascar.
Just finished using Easy Tether and honestly its very easy and fast!
I've used and enjoyed Pdanet but now it "expired" and I can't access any secure sites (like email) and it's really annoying.
Never got Easy Tether to work
I have the "Wired Tether" by the same people who made "Wireless Tether for Root Users" and can't get either to work (running Fresh 2.1.2)
I'm pretty sure I have the HTC Sync drivers on my computer since my system detects it successfully as an adb android phone.
Idk what to do, I'd prefer to get the wired tether for root users to work but even if I could figure out the wireless problem that would be cool too.
I'm using the wifi tether from google on my rooted stock 1.5 android
anyone still have the pri udatezip
Wired tether for root users won't work for us because a special driver needs to be in the kernel I think (at least from what I gather from the faq). Wireless 1.60 works great on zen my touch slide rom overclocked by the way. Those on fresh toast who have problems, try 2.01, it's meant for g1 with a new kernel built from toasts, so ya never know.

z4root was pulled from the AT&T market over the weekend.
You can check this out: ponack.net (can't link cause I'm new here, sorry)
Gives you rooting instructions and (if wanted) instructions for installing the Cognition ROM...of course you can substitute your fav ROM instead.

I use Google's wi-fi tether app. I just download the latest version from the interweb and install. Of course I am rooted and have sideloading fixed.

Download the Samsung one click root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739304&page=25 and download google's Wifi tether app or Barnacle wifi from market. If you can't find it in the market, you can use Market Enabler from the market to fool the market into thinking you are on TMobile.
Anything new on the tether without a root. Can't seem to find any of the programs that people talk about.
Thanks
dont mean to hijack but it has to do with captivate tethering..
i have assonance 5.2 and have tried tethering to my pc. seems to work but what i am really looking for is a way to tether and use my PC'S connection on my PHONE so i dont have to dwindle my data plan. ive been looking for a while actually on how i could 'reverse tether' but i guess im blind.

yea it should b possible but not very usefull since most pc's connect through wifi anyways so it would probely b more efficient to use wifi on your phone through your home network by installing a wireless router unless you are hard wired in which case u would need some kind of mobile hotspot type of program using wifi or bluetooth also usb of some sorts
problem solved with the newest version of connectify.
edit: well, my problem anyways.
So i have a brand new Samsung Galaxy S from Bell and i love the phone. I noticed it was laggy and thats how i found this forum. Today i downloaded superoneclick and rooted the phone. I have installed the lagfix and the phone is working great except for one issue.
Before i rooted the phone my wifi worked fine, now it shows its connected to the wifi but i get a network error message whenever i tried to use the market, browse the internet ect. My wireless router is working fine, another Galaxy S in the house has no troubles accessing it. If i disable the wifi the 3G connection works just fine on the phone. Any idea what i did and how the heck do i fix it? I dont really want to get involved with a repair from Bell at this point.
Thanks in advance for any replys or advice.
install app called droid wall and then mark all apps to work on wi-fi if that is not working than flash new rom and kernel

I would guess that it's an unsuccessful root. Rooting shouldn't affect Wifi.

I can connect to it fine, but I cant seem to stop the tether app... super user crashes. Any way to fix this?
have you tried rebooting and clearing cache? maybe grab SU out of rom manager possibly. i havent tested wireless tether yet though.

this would be my guess, as I am running the rom that was put on the phone directly after rooting and the wireless tether app has been working flawlessly.

Known issue with SU and Sense. Solution is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003088
Does anyone know if there is a way to turn down the power on the WiFi radio? I had used Barnicle on my old droid and you could set the power for the wifi radio which saved a lot on Battery but I can't seem to find a way to do it on the latest version of Barnicle or on wifi tether.
Running latest bamf Rom. Could not get tether to work for anything. Could connect to it but no internet but I opening mobile hotspot to check it. Worked. Now tether for root from market works without a hitch.

I've got Bugless Beast installed but the wifi tether app (Wireless tether for root users) does not allow me to tether. I have tried both my NookColor and my laptop and neither see the SSID. I even tried setting up the connection manually on the laptop but it still doesn't see it. I've tried turning the tether off then back on and also rebooting the phone.
I searched the forum and did some google searching and it doesn't look like I need a custom kernel but some older threads seemed to suggest I might. Also the description of the app say I do as well.
Can someone help me get this set up? Where can I find and install a kernel that allows this (Chevy's?)? I am using SPRecovery, not clockwork mod so I can't use ROM Manager to do this (as far as I can tell).
