Hey all,
Have been following the instructions to install the adb drivers for the nook and they do not recognize them as the correct type of driver for the devise. I follow the instructions here nookdevs.com/NookColor_USB_ADB and when I get to the point that I am changing the driver for the nook I see that there is a problem. It always says that the Nook should be under Other Devices but I find mine under Portable Devices. Then when I try and search for the correct driver it never finds the Android Composite ADB Device driver. It finds WPD FileSystem Volume Driver. I force it to use a driver in the correct folder it says that the folder does not contain a valid driver.
Any Ideas.
Thanks

Am trying to unlock my n1 so I can get to install cyanogen rom but am stuck after installing Android sdk and Usb drivers, am following some steps but am stuck trying to locate the USB driver, this is part of what was stated in the direction (You can check if your Android USB drivers are installed by going to “Printers & Devices” on Windows 7.* (and I think you can check Device Manager for other versions of Windows). I check the device manager on my pc and still didn't locate it,anybody have an idea like where I can find the USB drivers.
this has been discussed 100 times and is also in the "informative links" sticky.
Please do a search. The driver comes with the SDK.
I've been trying to install a few APK's on my NC but I haven't been successful with NookColor USB ADB instructions listed here: http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_USB_ADB
First of all i'm using Win7 64bit. I've gone all though the steps and did everything fine, the problem is when I get to the last step it doesn't bring up my NC serial number.
I did the troubleshooting and the adb_usb.ini is exactly what it needs to be 0x2080, I also tried to let Win7 update the nook automatically but that failed.
The one odd thing I did find is after I force the driver onto the nook it shows up in my device manager as Android Phone, and Android ADB Device not Android Composite ADB Device like the tutorial says it should.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
I couldn't get mine to work properly until I got my device manager to say Android Composite ADB Device - that is your clue that it is still using the wrong driver.
I found that a reboot, and changing/updating the driver worked for me - after about 3 tries!
Thanks ill give that a try.
When I plug in my NC in the device manager it shows up under portable devices. Is that the one I need to force the driver to or the USB Mass Storage Device under Universal Serial Bus Controllers?
It won't let updated the NookColor entry under portable devices so I'm assuming the correct one is under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. I can't seem to get it working. Not sure what the problem is. I've rebooted about 10 times now with no luck.
Hey guys, Im sure this is on here, I just cant seem to find it. Im running HC v4 on a SD card and when I try to ADB into it to install the market ADB doesnt see the device. I have usb debugging turned on, and ADB worked on my stock rom. Any suggestions?
Search for the nook color usb drivers on google. That worked for me at the following thread here on XDA: "[SCRIPT] Nook Color USB Drivers and ADB Setup (WinXP&7)"
I just worked through this the other day in my honeycomb .03 rooted nook. Follow the detailed directions on nookdevs (search "nookdevs: nook usb drivers"). Make sure you are admin on a windows PC while you do this. One other detail is to make sure to install the honeycomb labeled items in the SDK tool. You may not need them but they are in there so you might as well.
Are drivers always the cluprit?
I've been having similar problems with ADB not seeing my Nook. I did root it (Autonooter 3.0) and verified that USB Debugging shows to be on...and then downloaded the ADB set I found on XDA-Dev that had the full zip (adb and all) and another with just the USB drivers. But issuing the ADB command to list the devices found it still shows nothing in the list.
Are the right Nook USB drivers always the problem, since that seems to be the one thing everyone suggests trying/changing?
My ADB install never did try to use Windows Update to search for drivers (which we were warned about), and just to be safe I reran the second file to reinstall just the drivers. But at this point I'm at a loss what to try. So if it's invariably a problem with the USB drivers, well, I'm looking for pointers on a next step.
Thanks,
JTT
I am having this issue too, but USB drivers for Windows can't possibly apply as I'm running Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6).
I'm guessing it has something to do with the version of ADB I'm running but I just did a fresh install of the SDK release 10, so I doubt that that is it too unless there is a particular ADB I need for Honeycomb?
Any help would be appreciated.
Guys try the same over wifi. Linky
try going into cwm recovery, go to "mounts and backups", and click the first option "mount system". then plug in the NC and, in a command prompt on the computer/laptop, kill the server, restart the server and look for devices again. also, make sure no other adb devices are connected to your computer/laptop (i.e. your phone)
i followed the directions on nook devs (mentioned above by bike4food) and all was like it said it should be by the end. unfortunately, the laptop still wasn't recognizing my NC. when i mounted the system like i described above, it recognized it.
good luck!
Well, here we go.
First of all, I'm hardly new to the world of ADB. I've got a Nexus 7 and a Kindle Fire. I've set up ADB successfully on those devices (even though The Kindle Fire was a pain). Hoiwever, I'm completely flummoxed by the NookHD+. I'm running Windows 8 x64, I've disabled Driver Signature Enforcement (twice, to be on the safe side), followed the steps on the Nook Developers website to the letter, but keep hitting a dead end. I've verified I've got the correct drivers (downloaded from the Nook Developers site), I've got Android SDK installed, I've verified the Vendor ID as 0X2080 in the adb_usb.ini file, and even have the Nook SDK installed. Hoiwever, when ever I try to update the drivers in Device Manager, it displays "MyNOOK," and if I try to update the driver, I receive the following message:
"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work for Windows with x64-based systems."
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, rebooted my system multiple times, disconnected and reconnected my device, tried different cables and ports, and still, nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone figure this out?

I don't know if I can help but I did succeed in installing the driver in win 8 x64. I got the B&N driver zip file from leapinlar's tips thread and followed the instructions from the B&N site. Nothing deviated much from their instructions except that I had to view hidden drivers in the windows device manager before I found "Other devices" and when I updated the driver I had to identify it as a Portable Device. I didn't connect the cable until the driver was installed. I do have certain developer options enabled on the Nook itself. I had previously gotten wireless adb working. For adb itself I needed to extract files from the most current Android SDK (leapinlar's older versions didn't work, at least not with CM 10.2).
BTW, I am totally new to adb.
Edit: Also, mine didn't say MyNOOK anywhere. It showed the device name in device manager, something like BN Nook HD+.

Hello
Im brand new to Android and adb/fastboot.
I have looked at tutorials on youtube all day, and for everybody else their devices just pops up when you type adb devices.
I get nothing
I have done it correctly, because I get all the commands when I type adb/fastboot.
Im running windows8, could that be the problem?
Do I need some kind of extra USB drivers for my google glasses?
I do find my glasses as a camera tho.
EDIT:
So after watching a few more tutorials I understood my problem. Its windows8 usb drivers thats not correct.
I have tried to install correct drivers and edit the .ini files that need editing, but now I encountered a new problem.
Windows wont let me install correct usb drivers for google glass.
When I have device manager open, windows have already installed them as “Portable device – Glass1″
I click uninstall and they disaper from my device list, once I click “scan for new hardware” I can see that they reapper on my device list as other devices. Within 2sec windows autoinstall them as “portable device -glass1″ again.
So I try “update driver software” but this dont work either, I select the correct file and path, but I keep getting this message “windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date”.
Im running windows8.
Any help is appreciated.
EDIT2:
As far as all the tutorial movies tell me to disable driver signing I have done so.
If all of the adb commands were working, then chances are you need to enable debugging on your Glass. Settings >> Device info >> Turn on debug
Update:
The way to bypass windows8 and installing usb drivers, is that I need to use the option "Have Disk" and then install usb drivers that way.
All works fine now.
