So the touchscreen on my Tilt randomly died yesterday evening. No response from any on screen commands, though it still goes from dim to bright when touched.
Anyone else have any issues with this? I guess I'll have to bring my phone to AT&T today...hopefully I'll be able to get a replacement..
Try a hard reset first (but sync your data with your pc before you do)
I had the same problem - a hard reset sorted it.
Just tried this, it boots to the "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Mobile based device" message that doesn't respond to tapping!
Great, now I have a brick.
Do you have a screen protector installed? I had a similar issue and when I replaced my screen protector with a new one, all was well again.

None as of now. Worst part is, I'm pretty much stuck. No phone service, no Tilts in stock to swap out, and AT&T doesn't give out loaners anymore..

If you get your phone less than 30 days, call AT&T customer service asking for a replacement, or ask for a discount compensation credit for your inconvenience. My Tilt got cracked (I think it is a manufacturer defect), and I talked to AT&T CS, and I got $200 credit. After all, I paid only $200 for the phone, but I have to pay to replace the screen. Luckily, I got American Express to pay for the repairing charges since I used the AE card to do the purchase. Try!
I have the same exact issue, except I spilled water on mine. When I am on a call for example the phone's dimmer lights up after tapping but no other responses. Everything else is great tho. Now I added a new rom and I can't get past the setup tap screen. Let us know what happened.
Ok, so after loading "RUU_Kaiser_ATT_WWE_1.60.502.3_22.45.88._07_1.27.14.09_Ship.exe" for a couple days, tweaking a few things and adding a few software packages...
Yesterday, after leaving my desk for a while with the phone on the desk and unplugged after recent sync with desktop....
I come back and find my Tilt is really hot and totally dead!
Later in the day, last night and today...I noticed that on some email notifications, the vibrate latches in and won't stop until I wake up the screen!
Anyone else seen this? Need to decide whether to restore to factory condition, retest etc...or send back as defective.
Cheers and THANKS!
this has happened to me several times, I finally went off and set email alerts off which is annoying. This also happened on my other HTC phone 8125
This has happened a couple of times for me too on the totally stock ATT ROM.
Annoying but, since it's always with me, it's never gotten worse than "annoying".
Same problem here, since I don't want to disable the vibrating alert I just send a mail to HTC asking for a solution.
Hope they'll anwser.
I'll keep you posted.
Percentages...
Hmm, with these numbers (already)...it is difficult to determine if this is a quality control issue with a small percentage failure. Need some more replies and a comment from HTC!
I'm already inclined to tell AT&T to send me another one, especially since this issue has been experienced with the ship ROM, and it is less than 2-weeks old.
Also original rom and I had the problem from day one.
It's night over here in Belgium, but I won't wait from an answer from HTC. First thing tomorrow I'll call the shop where I've got it.
I've had this a couple of times on my UK Vario 3. It actually happened today.
The problem seems to span different roms and batches.
pjam
I've also have this problem so like most people I disabled the vibrate notification which isn't a fix but better than having it none stop vibrate. Hope they fix this for the Vario III as well as Kaiser
solution from a HTC dealer
I just called the shop where I purchased mine, and first thing the guy asks, "do you really need the vibrating warning? can't you just use a sound alert or something?"
After explaining that I really want it to work as mentioned, he went to ask.
When he came back he tried to convince me that it's normal with WM6. It's a feature. When asked wheter it's normal it sometimes works "correctly" en sometimes it keeps vibrating, he answered it's strange but normal.
Explaining that the battery gets really hot and so didn't help either. He was convinced it's normal. But he gave me a number of HTC. Not a Belgian nr so I'll first wait for an anwer via email till this afternoon.
Anwser from HTC
I just called to HTC Europe, and the woman on the phone said "oh that's not good".
But a solution? I'll have to send it in for repair.
Still waiting for an answer on my email I send to HTC. And if I'll send it in for repair I'll first call again for a better anwser than "that's not good".
But sorry no real solution yet!
seems like this is getting worse and worse for us. I am experiencing the same issue. I have had the phone for about a 3 weeks now. The first week everything was fine. Then this sporadic occurance of the steady vibrate with new text and email messages. It seems like the first 2 vibrating pulses go through fine but it gets hung up on the last one. Full stock att ship rom here as well.
I'll get after AT&T for a replacement tomorrow (GMT -5) and post their response.
Well, not much to report except AT&T gave no fuss and new Tilt is "in the mail". I would suggest even those who are outside the "return for new one" window, get after HTC and/or their provider to replace any units with this "defect"...
Maybe threaten class action... Good luck to all.
I called back to HTC support, explained the problem again. Also said that I'm not the only one but they are not aware of the problem. I'll have to send it in for repair.
So I called the repaircenter, and it would take 2 or 3 weeks.
Don't want to send him in for so long, so for now I'll try to live with it. Still hoping for a bugfix one day.

did u walk into an att store? or make a phone call to customer support? In either case how did you go about proving this was infact an issue?
I called AT&T premier phone support from a shopping mall while waiting for my better half to shop...it took about 1 minute to explain the issue.
Basically, I told them my phone needed to be replaced because it was defective and explained the manifestation (sometimes when email alerts are set to vibrate, the vibration does not stop and if I let it keep going, it kills the battery fast and overheats the unit).
I further explained that I researched the problem online and that is appears a small percentage of users are affected by the issue so that it is likely a manufaturing QA issue.
I also suggested that they send me a new unit versus a refurbished one, at least the first time around. They responded, "Oh, of course we will be sending you a new unit".
It took another two or three minutes on hold for the order to be setup, and I had an email in my Tilt inbox before we disconnected.
Overall the experience was excellent.
Same problem here. Mine is a Hong Kong unit that is HTC branded. Using it here in Canada with Rogers.
Note: I have installed Blackberry Connect 4 as well for connection to my corporate email.
If an message comes in, it will sit there and vibrate like mad until I wake it up. For now, I've disabled vibrate.

sounds very much like the typical idiot you find in such places
is it just email notifications that are affected, or does it happen on all types of notification, ie sms message?
Good question...
Right now I'm running Dutty's Tilt Beta 2 w/ touch and all is good actually. It turns out that the phone ring uses only one vibration (long) and is followed by sound, where as my email uses 3 short vibrations only.
I'm more inclined to reach and answer the phone, than I am to reach to read an email, plus the email gets 3 chances to improperly latch the vibrate.
So, I don't know if it really is only email, or if email manifests itself as the culprit only because it happens more often.
Others may be able to confirm this.
I will say though, I'v had Dutty's running for 24 hours, and although the weekend email volume is much lower for me, I would have expected it to happen again by now.
The whole thing is crazy, sometimes it bothers the hell out of me, and other days it just gets forgotten or I assume it is a glitch.
All in all, I like the phone enough to keep it in the end, even with this problem. However, I still think the numbers on this forum are low enough that I have a decent chance of not experiencing this "bug" with my new phone when it arrives.
On my brothers captivate when anything really light is displayed, I noticed that I can still see the numbers from the clock in the notification bar. This shows up on the ATT boot animation screen too.
Anybody else noticing this?
BTW: The AT&T store wouldn't do anything about it, they told him to call samsung and try to get it warrantied. If that doesn't work, he will have to pay $125 for an insurance claim to get a refurb.
I think I understand what you mean. That's strange. I don't think there's anything you can do about that other than having Samsung look at it. Hopefully it will go away or something and you'll save a few bucks. If he hasn't had it long, Samsung should fix it for him without him having to pay for anything, unless they find that your brother caused it to happen. Just call them and ask about it.

Bringing this thread back because I also have burn in problems and didn't want to make a new thread.
Since I was using the early versions of NoLed, my phone used to sit at night plugged in, and get notifications. In the early version you couldn't time it out, so the phone would sit all night with the "battery fully charged" box in the middle of a black screen. I didn't think OLED screens would have problems, but its burned in.
Is there any thing you can do to work it out? (similar to the programs that can sometimes un-stick a pixel on an LCD monitor)
Did you guys in the captivate thread find a resolution to the screen burn in? Or is it sadly permanent?
My notification bar is burnt in on my Vibrant, annoys the heck out of me.
Here is a thread I made in the vibrant forums.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
So I received my 16 GB and really like it. However I do seem to have the left side of the screen slightly raised, as well as some screen flicker.
May try to get it exchanged - What time frame does this have to happen with the Play Store? Do they send you a new one then you send back the old one?
After waiting an hour on hold, I finally spoke to someone. They took down my email and said someone will contact me within the next 24-48 hours.
Honestly, I'm never going to buy another piece of hardware from google again.

My experience thus far.....
Google unable to cancel overpriced preorder
Cancel order at other retailer ($40 cheaper).
Preorder arrives, notice that device as been sealed, seal was broken, then resealed.
Turn on Transformers, looks amazing! Stop video and notice screen is not responding.
Notice left side in portrait mode is raised, apply pressure and touch function resumes (keep in mind this tablet is now 30 minutes old already defective)
Notice dead pixel
Call Google and was on hold for OVER an hour (obviously I'm not the only one having an issue)
Finally get someone on the phone who has absolutely no clue about what to do.
Says they'll offer a new replacement
Instead of providing an RMA#, they said the issue will be "escalated"
Still no RMA#, still sitting out $279 with a defective tablet.
Hope you get this resolved.
Does anyone have any experience with the process?
I'm getting mine RMA'd as well. Mine has the screen coming loose from the adhesive on the left and right side when holding the tablet in portrait mode.
I was on hold for over an hour before I spoke to someone. He had never heard of my problem before and he's said he's taken hundreds of calls over the past few days. I'm getting mine RMA'd but he said a Tier 2 support person is going to be contacting me through email (why, I don't know.) He also stated that they would send a return shipping label so I can send my original one back.
Still waiting on the email, granted it's only been about 2 hours since I spoke to the rep.

I feel your pain.
Received my tablet yesterday and noticed that the seals had been broken and then resealed. Charged up my tablet completely before turning it on. Upon turning it on I was greeted with the lovely message of "Unfortunately, Nfc Service has stopped.". I click OK and it keeps popping back up. Cannot do a dang thing on this tablet.
And I also have the issue where my screen is slightly raised on the left side.
Called Google and after being on hold for an hour was told the arrival date of my replacement was TBD. Hopefully I will get a call/email today from the 2nd tier. With my luck Google will charge me for shipping...
I'm having the same bad experience as everyone else.
Google Play store = FAIL!
Last time I preorder hardware from them. Poor delivery, poor quality control, and poor customer service. People shouldn't have to wait hours on hold to talk to someone who has no clue how to do returns or exchanges.

In fairness there's only an hour-long wait because of the amount of people ringing up to ask where their tablet is. Although I agree, they should have a separate repairs/returns call stream to handle those calls directly.
I called them last night, was on hold for 55 minutes, told them of my issue (dent on Nexus 7 out of the box), guy said he will need to escalate the issue, asked for my email address, and that they'd contact me within 48 hrs. 2 minute conversation with the guy total.
I've received an email about our conversation and currently waiting for a real response...
same boat, on hold for about an hour last night, spoke to someone about my backlight (bottom of screen doesnt always light up) said they will escalate and contact me within 48 hours. BS, last time I order from google.
So I bring my phone over to Samsung Netherlands for repairs of minor issues. I get my device back after 3 weeks with a letter declining the repair under warranty because I had somehow dropped the phone.
I'm like fine(!) so don't fix it, but when I checked the device:
THE SCREEN WASN'T WORKING ANYMORE!
I can hear touch sounds when I press the soft keys, but the screen stays black. Also all the screws holding the phone together were missing.
Immediately called samsung support (45c/minute) and after being put on hold for 10 minutes they told me the screen was broken because of my fault!!!!
They told me the screen stopped working as they opened up the device up. HOW IS IT MY FAULT THEN?!
OBVIOUSLY I didn't send Samsung my N7000 with a broken screen or else I would have mentioned the broken screen as one of the issues to be fixed (which I didn't)
Samsung What The F?!
If anyone has tips for handeling this situation, plz do tell!
File a lawsuit! That's the only solution to get what your device deserves from SamSuck!
I would start with putting your complaint here, samsung seems to be at least publicly responding there.
Next step probably involve a lawyer.
I am interested to see how this evolves, keep us informed.
