found a way to get live wallpapers working on cm7
install livewallpapers picker.apk and enjoy.
also heres the nexus s microbes apk live wallpaper courtesy of @Haxzamatic!
Awesome!!!
That's great, thx!
Thanks for the Microbes live wallpaper, that's really nice.
The APK posted for LiveWallpapersPicker.apk is v2.1, here's v2.3.2 that I just pulled from update-cm-7.0.0-RC1-encore-KANG-signed.zip.
To keep it all together:
LiveWallpapersPicker.apk (v2.3.2): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7807443/LiveWallpapersPicker.apk
LiveWallpapers.apk (v2.3.2): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7807443/LiveWallpapers.apk
Microbes.apk (v2.3): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7807443/Microbes.apk
A couple of things:
(1) I still can't get the wallpapers from LiveWallpapers.apk to work on CM7 nightly 19 (fresh install). The Microbes wallpaper does work for me, though. I had the other ones working with nightly 12 and before. Anybody have any tips to help, or newer versions than I posted above?
(2) I did have the other 'Nexus' LWP before, the one from the Nexus S. If anybody has a link, let me know and I'll post it here.
These worked for me on CM7 RC-4. The instructions on nookdevs ddn't.
erm... I had to do nothing to make LW work in CM7. Maybe it was in the GApps zip I installed?
Just a quick note for others trying to get this installed; took me 2 hours to figure it out
I had to place both LiveWallpapersPicker.apk (v2.3.2), and LiveWallpapers.apk (v2.3.2) in the /system/app directory with root explorer (need to mount the file system as read write [rw]). Then make sure the file permissions are rw-r--r-- (owner: read, write; group: read; other: read). Now reboot the device and it should work.
A big thanks

Thanks for this solution. Flashed the Jedi Mind Trick JB6 ROM to my TMO GS2 last weekend and it did not have the live wallpaper option listed when choosing a wallpaper from a home screen long press/wallpaper. Placed the files above in the directory as directed and had live wallpapers again after the reboot.

I themed Launcher.apk to look like the Nexus Launcher. This is not Launcher2.apk, it's just a themed version of Launcher.apk. It has been done in the past but I wanted it for 2.1 so here you go.
KiNgxKxlicK Version:
5 screens
5x4 icons
[all I did was theme the Launcher.apk he already has on the ROM]
Download attachment for this version

Credit for the launcher tab images go to Kron2. I used his for this launcher and added the black background.
Rename it Launcher.apk and push to /system/app
ADB:
Code:
adb push Launcher.apk /system/app/Launcher.apk
Terminal:
First copy the Launcher.apk to your SDcard [not in a folder]
Code:
su
cp /sdcard/Launcher.apk /system/app/Launcher.apk
Download links are in my signature. [FOR THE KiNgxKxlicK version download the attachment]
May be a dumb question, but does LWP still work with this launcher?

and it works good

HTC HERO
hey i tried rooting my romk some many times im pissed cause it just wont work ive read all the tutorials (gold card mthd etc) basically i cannot root my htc hero european rom, however i like this launcher thing, so does my HTC Hero have to be rooted to use this Launcher.apk when my Hero is updated to 2.1 by the end of the month? please help
First post so pls go easy on me.. am a android noob who just got his first G1 a few days back..
I wanted to add wallpapers to the "android wallpaper gallery" in my cyanogenmod v4.2.15.1 G1,
Here is what I did, what worked and what I need help with.
I read the the files are stored within Launcher.apk and hence files have to be added to that. So I used Metamorph to add jpg files with the wallaper_
.jpg and wallpaper_
_small_jpg to launcher.apk. The files were not visible in the android wallpaper gallery.
On the other hand if I renamed my new wallpaper to the same name as an existing one in launcher.apk (ex-wallpaper_bluedotgrid.jpg and wallpaper_bluedotgrid_small.jpg), the new wallapaper is visible..
So iwas wondering what other files I need to edit to ADD new wallpapers.. It quite limiting if i have to replace the existing ones with ones of my choice.
Any help appreciated..
You should mess with some xml inside the apk, but idk which one atm.
For this you may try Brut.all's apktool to decramble the binary xmls or just compile launcher from sources...
Well any how to or guides would be much appreciated.. I am new to xml coding also..
May I ask why you want to do this? If it is to retain the quality of the wallpapers you are adding, and avoid cropping them.. then there are alternative methods.. but if it is for more complicated reasons then nevermind.
I just like the "android wallpaper gallery" over setting a jpg as wallpaper from astro or file browser..
Metamorph seems great to add files to apk, so If i can find a way such that I can copy new jpgs into zip and metamorph it to get it into launcher.apk, it would be great..
EDIT: Seeing this thread has had 240+ views, maybe ppl would be interested in the replace wallpapers method that i used..
Here is guide posted by cloverdale..

I'd just like to contribute that all of the roms\launcher.apk's I've pulled apart ALL use the replacement method; I have yet to see a rom that has custom wallpapers and does not replace stock ones.

Well Cyanogen's Launcher.apk has wallpaper named wallpaper_prash_cm_girls.jpg
That definitely isn't a default one replaced.. he added it in..

Yeah I've seen at least a few that have a large catalog of available wallpapers through the launcher, Cyanogen (as stated above) and Marks theme launcher are two that come to mind right away.
You have to recompile from source. The wallpaper list is defined in an array within the source code I think...
id matches file name...
You could try opening launcher.apk with apktool and editing res/values-mdpi/arrays.xml and making it something like
Code:

<resources>
<string-array name="wallpapers">

wallpaper1

wallpaper2

wallpaper3

wallpaper4

wallpaper5

wallpaper6

</string-array>
</resources>

I found this facebook.apk in the Nexus one forums, the widget is transparent pretty sweet looking! I was going for a smoked widget theme but this will have to do until I can find one that works with EE3.0
All credit goes to rori-his creation-I just found the link.
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731625
To install: adb shell mv /data/app/com.facebook.katana.apk /system/app/Facebook.apk
adb push Facebook.apk /system/app/Facebook.apk
Here's the rest of the smoked widgets

Copy the apk file over to your SD card, then use a file manager on your phone like Astro to install the apk file.
the OP and the source of these smoked widgets suggest using adb to push the apk's. Can anyone confirm that on other devices installing the apk using a file manager works?
Is there a way to get the live wall paper picker APK to work on cm7?
Ok I installed live wallpaper picker. APK with root explorer and rebooted, no luck. Also tried nexus s live wallpaper APK.
My live wallpapers were working, and then the picker disappeared.
It was either v3 or the new kernel that killed it.
live wallpaper picker works for me.
Can you post up your apk
this is the one i used with root explorer, when i get home im going to try to push it with adb
let me know if it works for you
I tried that one in root explorer earlier. Force closes on start
how to install the picker?

See this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11720285); I posted info on how I got it to work.
Hey all,
as I like the Bubbles Live-Wallpaper but it has to much blue in it (because: the OLED material used to produce blue light degrades significantly more rapidly than the materials that produce other colors -> see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oled#Disadvantages for more information), I decided to modify it a little bit.
The modifications are:
- Changed Bubbles into little green Androids
- Changed noise field BG into just black (also good for Battery drain )
You need to be root to change the Bubbles wallpaper, because it's a system app!
As I didn't change the sources, there can be only one "Bubbles" wallpaper on your phone. Therefore you have to delete or cut the stock NoiseField.apk which is located at /system/app.
After that you can use adb to push the modded NoiseField.apk at /system/app :
Code:
adb push NoiseField.apk /system/app
apk and screenshots are attached!

EDIT: I made a CWM flashable zip. As I don't know if there is different update-binary files for Nexus S 4G and I9023, please perform a CWM Backup, if you want to try the flashable zip!
For I9020 it should work as it is!
The flashable zip is also attached!
Awesome! Thanks a lot!
I <3 Ice Cream Kangwichez!
Nvm this post. This is great! Thanks a bunch!
Update
Added CWM flashable zip!
