Hi,
i was wondering if anyone knows how to display your own profile pic in the STOCK messaging app, because at the moment i can only see the other person's picture which i assigned.
i know this can be done using third party apps such as handcent etc... but i want to use the stock messaging app.
this question is for SGS-I9000 but may possible help other android phones.

Hey I am currently using RoDrIgUeZsTyLe's MIUIMOD, and I love everything about but, but for some reason facebook contact pictures don't show up in the messaging app....
anyway to fix it?
Just for information:
Currently, my SGS is running Darky's Rom 10.2 Final with TalonDEV-Kernel 0.4.3. The app which is making trouble is a modified stock messaging app from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065847.
Yeah, I'd like to have a BLN when I recieve a text message. Does anyone have an idea or maybe a workaround how to make it blink?
But please don't tell me to use a third party messaging app because their icons doesn't match with the samsung stock design.
Ty in advance!
I was struggling the same as you to make it work with the stock app, and all I read about was "use GO SMS, use Handcent, etc, etc"...
Well... there's a nice and clean solution!: Use SMS Popup; it will notify you via LED when SMSs arrive and you'll still keep the stock app (plus you'll have a nice popup to reply from there if you want)
Hope it helps!
Hi all,
When you go to share a contact card via the contacts app or by clicking attach in the SMS app. It appears ICS is missing this function.
I have seen a couple of posts on this but none mention a native solution.
So my question is: Is there a native way to add SMS to the stock ICS 'share list' for sending contacts, or is this something to do with either contacts or SMS not exposing their 'intent' correctly?
Thanks in advance.
Logicalstep
Tap and hold on the number, it will give you the option to copy it ;-)
Thanks NoXiScz,
I'm aware of how Copy and Paste works in ICS
I'm looking for a native solution.
I have found an app that puts sharing by SMS into the contacts, but it doesn't seem to work the same way as the native did on Gingerbread.
Logicalstep
On ICS I used a phone dealer who have this function, for example rocket phone dealer.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
you can use this app "Share contacts via SMS" by Dor Naveh
Teally now...
On gb we had the option and now ics lacks it? What kind of evolution is this???
Is there a way we can port the Stock ICS Contacts, Phone and Messaging to CM10.1? or Jellybean 4.2.2?
There are many features of ICS Contacts and Messaging than the JB.
For example is the Creating of Group Contact that you can just mark a check to contacts, unlike JB's Contact, you need to type it one by one.
Messaging in ICS has an Address book to choose or mark contact whenever you want to a message to a lot of Contacts in just one go and it will also display in one message, unlike JB's Messaging, you have to write it one by one and if you send, it will create Sending Message.
Thanks in advanced..
PS: Please don't recommend me a third party apps, also I'm using the CM10.1 from MaclawStudio

short answer is that i doubt any one would want to port something from an old version onto a new version
that being said one could always add new feature to the latest version
have you had a chance to look into how to mod apps?

I tried but it seems it's out of my league to mod an apps, I don't have any background modding an application. But if someone can do that.. It would be much better..
I don't know why JB Stock Contact and Messaging remove that kind of features..
just gonna bump this thread..
For SMS and the like, do you use the official/stock messaging app or Google Hangouts?
Nether, I use YAATA. There is quite a bit to choose from.
I use Chomp or Textra, many more options to configure including delayed sending(if you notice you are sending to wrong person) & ability to choose multiple recipients(group text) simply
I used hangouts on my LG g2 for ages, but I haven't missed it yet on the z3c yet..... But I've only had the z3c a week haha.
Anything you guys don't like about the stock msg app in particular? Or is it mainly that the others have more options to tweak?
Was just randomly inquiring.
I'm currently using the stock messaging app and have no issues.

I do like having a few more options but mainly I like dark themes and third party messaging apps offer those.
I use Textra myself, been quite happy with it thus far, enjoy the customization options in terms of LED and notification bubbles and sounds that you can customize per contact.

I was a fan of Textra early on. However, I don't understand why they continue to use their own database for sent messages. They used to only keep sent messages in their database thus preventing you from doing backups. They now copy sent messages from their database to the Android database so backups and restores work fine. If you don't mind the extra space used it is a good app. I guess they do it for performance though I don't see any difference between their app and other messaging apps.
I have a group of 50 people, and sometimes i need to send an sms to all of them.
Stock sms app cannot fulfil the job and does not have an option to keep contacts in groups after sending messages.
I have to use handcent instead.
By the way, if anyone knows a decent sms app that can overcome android sms/hour limitation please give me an advice.
Thx in advance!

What ROM are you running? I have seen that setting in CM12. I don't believe it's an Android limitation but rather a ROM setting.
Stock 4.4.4.
I don't have the courage to install a custom rom
