*Update* 12/20/10: Mammon and a454nova have been kind enough to include my animations in their respective roms so I decided to update those to be generic "Android Froyo" animations so if anyone likes them on some other rom they can use them without confusion
I have the generic supernova up now, the bonsai animation will be up tomorrow as my computer is chugging away slimming down those pngs!
Hey everybody!
Now that we have some good, maturing Froyo ROMs I decided to make a couple of animations for the boot and shutdown processes, despite the fact that the rarity of restarting our phones usually means we're flashing a new ROM or we're having some serious problems!
Here is a boot animation I made for mammon's bonsai4all rom (since this is my daily driver) pretty much just made from some of the awesome wallpapers that he has included in his rom and a sound I mashed together.
Bonsai Boot Preview
Bonsai Generic Boot Preview
Bonsai Boot Sound Preview
Animation for a454nova's SUPERNOVA rom. The preview gif runs kinda poorly in browser (at least in mine)and may take up to 20 seconds to cycle, but the animation on the phone is like 10-12 seconds. Though I would like to, I haven't come up with a sound for this one. This 6 second limit really sucks!1
SuperNova Boot Preview
SuperNova Generic Preview
The shutdown is pretty generic, just wanted something a little more simple. And something with a slightly longer sound since powering down takes so long anyways and that is something of which we can actually extend the length, unlike the Power On sound.
Shutdown Preview
Shutdown Sound Preview
The .zips below are flashable through CWM. Generics are just "Android/Froyo" splash screens and the others are "ROM Name/ROM author" for those specific roms.
Instructions:
-Copy .zip to your SD card
-Flash through CWM like you would anything else
I have tested these on mammon's bonsai4all and that is all I have tried, though I assume (perhaps wrongly) that it should work on any kernel that supports custom animations as long as the boot animation runs from /system/media.
As for the usual disclaimer I am not responsible for anybody jacking up their phones by flashing these files. So flash these at your own risk.
That being said I hope you enjoy them!

I *think* Flash is used. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong.

Would love to know how your doing this as well.
Awesome job on adding to the feel and look for Mammon's bonsai4all rom.

Thanks! The vector text was all made in adobe illustrator and compositing and fx were done in after effects. I am interested in learning flash though to see if it is quicker to produce a similar product but in a more streamlined fashion.
leatherneck, are you creating your animations at 30 fps? And what resolution are you running at? I feel like flash might be able to handle vector animation better than what I am using and wonder how it is handled in flash (i.e. can you render at any resolution you like or is it just Full, half, third or quarter of maximum)?

I have found the most success at 24 fps but setting desc.text to run at 96 fps. Using flash I am able to render at full 480 by 800. Flash can also output to png (1 png for each frame). If you want we could work together on creating a flash version.

Awesome job, loving the new shutdown!!!!
I updated the OP with some generic splash screens for the animations for anybody using ROMs besides those two
Since it seems like there still isn't a proper ZX Spectrum style boot animation for regular Android phones, here's my simple attempt at one. It's for 480x800 devices (at least for now - I MIGHT add some other resolutions later...or not...) and it's pretty simple, but I kinda like it, so here it is. I've tried to make it as lean as possible.
It's running a bit faster than it runs on real Speccy (yes, the loading border stripes are genuine and correct for this specific image and I've thought about adding the proper loading sounds as well ) and the pixel aspect ratio of the image itself is (obviously) off, therefore the image color attributes are not the famous 8x8 squares. Sorry about that. The font is corrected, though.
Just place it into /system/media (or wherever your kernel reads bootanimation.zip files from) and you should be good to go. Here's video of my Galaxy S booting (the version in the video is a bit faster than the final one, 15fps vs 10fps):

Nice one ))
Btw, there are two paths, which are searched for bootanimation.zip during kernel boot process:
/system/media/
&
/data/local/media
Placing it to the /system/media as you have suggested is better, because all kernels supporting boot animations reads system partition, while not all custom kernels uses /data/local/media for boot animation.
Good work ;-)
Nice, yesterday i was thinking in build this bootanim...
Long live the Speccy!
I am in the process of creating over 100 true 3D Boot Animations of various sizes.
I have a sample of one on youtube. It is a 30 second animation. All animations loop seamlessly until the os is loaded.
Multiple stages and customized colors, images and personalization will be available as well.
I look forward to being part of this forum. SyrD0n
I have a sample on youtube:
galaxy loader
I have a spinning galaxy loader almost complete. I will post a video sample when its ready.
Let me know if there is interest in this type of thing.
Btw, the boot animations.zip will be totally free to all. I will never place ads of any kind in my boot animations for your devices. I have 20 plus years experience with Photoshop and other adobe products. I use after effects cc, Photoshop, cinema 4d and other applications to do my work. I have business licenses for all of the applications I use. I would like to be a valuable contributor to this community.

Android...A New Digital Revolution Of Incredible Developers
First animation almost ready for nexus 10 tablets (more soon)
I have created the first of many many seamless boot animations. This one should set some new standards for the nexus 10.
This boot animation is an underwater view of the sun from beneath the surface of the ocean. The animation has waves moving through the entire screen. Yes folks. this is a 2560x1504 bootscreen using every pixel of the screen. No black backgrounds. All seamless. All free. I booted up my nexus 10 to show my roommate the animation on startup. His reply is "where did you get the picture for that?" He thought I was warping an image. He was shocked when I showed him it was all mathematics and no images at all. Fractals rock so hard! Although I certainly can manipulate images, 3d objects. you name it.
I am going to look online also and find storage space so that I can give out a link to the actual bootanimation.zip file.
Keep in mind, this first version will be for the nexus 10 only. I will re-render for other devices as soon as I solve storage and sharing issues. If someone could be so kind as to direct me to the information of maximum screen resolutions for your devices, I will compile a list and do a batch render for each animation I create. Also, can anyone tell me if it is ok to attach the bootanimation.zip file to the post here? I don't wish to break any rules. Especially since I am new.
It is time to turn the generic into the extraordinary. I am here to work with a team and make a difference.

Demo on youtube
30 Second video render of underwater boot animation.
Here is a working demo of Underwater - bootanimation.zip on my own nexus 10 tablet.
So, here is the best part.
I am working on a server side system that will create these bootanimation.zip files on the fly for download. What this allows for is the ability to customize the animations in a myriad of ways. For instance, It could include your name, info, etc. It could have your picture inserted in a corner, etc. There really is no limit. I have been making dynamic images with php since the mid to late 90's. once each image is created, the server would zip it up and offer it for download. All I would need to do is create a html5 front end to allow for the customization.
I am attempting to work with major developers of various android system tool apps (ones that manage boot animations) to make them available in those apps as well. If not, then I will end up making my own app. Simply changing a boot animation isn't enough of a feature for me.
I will also be releasing how-to video tutorials and show how to create some of this video effect magic, as well as exporting png files, choosing the correct zip format and installing new animations. I will start releasing these in mid spring 2014. So look for that as well.
This video is available as high as 1440p on youtube.
Anyways, enjoy. I will find out if its ok to post the bootanimation.zip file in this post.
SyrD0n
Updated Information
There are now 2 boot animation previews available.
The underwater bootanimation.zip is around 11 MB.
That is impressive considering it is a full-screen, seamless, animated rendering for the nexus 10. Virtually every pixel is being used (this one does have some black at the bottom that doesn't change).

Hey everyone!
As an XDA member for years, I love Android and the notion of open source and customizability. I love everything about it. However, I would be lying if I said I hated iOS. iOS is a closed down, very non-customizable device, however the design layout is very sleek and minimalistic. I don't mean things are all so flat or colourful and iOS blurry...nope. I loved when I first saw Springboard restart and watching the scrolling wheel spin as it loaded. But that's not my favourite, my favourite is when you factory reset the device and the logo appears, with a fill bar that actually looks like it's doing something. This animation also shows when you update your Mac's EFI/SMC partitions.
Barebones Android doesn't have this feature and I would like to simulate it with my boot animation. I personally don't favour boot animations that is very obvious in its loop, especially Samsung's spinny/bubbly boot animations. I made the minima series boot animation, which does use that loop feature, however that wasn't as minimalistic as I wanted it to be - it was meant to be a loop boot animation replacement, if you liked looping boot animations go for that one.
I personally wanted a boot animation that looks and feels like a different boot animation than the typical loop boot animations.
We present to you, a fill bar inspired boot animation that correctly depicts the percentage according to the boot phase and CPU speed - meaning it will completely fill up the bar as soon as the system reports to it that the boot sequence has completed. With this we hope to recreate the professional, non-tacky feel the OnePlus has to offer through the software, complementing the hardware.
NOTE: I am not combining this with the minima series thread post, as this is a totally different boot animation guideline. The boot animation takes hours of sketching and design - as well as the animating bit causes a lot of set backs when there are design flaws. If a request raises popularity, I may consider creating it as a side project.

Yep, I use the boot logo tool to make the splash screen for the image before my boot animation plays.

Updated OP with AFH database to download bootanimation.zip (for Lollipop ROMs), be sure to set permissions correctly!
Worked perfectly for me ! On Calkulin's CM11S 44S, with franco kernel r35
Everything is fine BUT..
I love this boot animation and boot logo!!! I have it installed and everything is fine! Except for one thing, I'm not getting the animation when my OPO is plugged in. It is the last of your screenshots, where it shows the OPO usb cord plugged into the phone with what looks like a battery charging animation. I still have the stock version, with the large battery in the middle of the screen that charges from red to green.
Is there a step that I didn't follow?
UPDATE:
Sorry, I realized that was a new fastboot logo!!
However, speaking of the battery charging animation, do you intend to make an animation to replace the one that is used when the phone is plugged in, but powered off???
Is it possible to change that animation??
I would love to replace my entire booting/charging theme and have everything be a uniformed Project Flo theme!!
Thanks for the great work, sorry for the misunderstanding, and I hope that you got this far into my message haha! Cheers!

There is a way to change that image, but you would have to use the Bootlogo Changer app. It's not possible for desktop users like me.

Oh man!! The main thing is that I would want it to fit the entire vibe of your boot logo/animation theme(s). I don't have any of your animation files, plus I would even know where to begin haha!
Is it not possible because you don't have a phone to test it on?
If you were able to implement this last part of the boot theme, I would probably never change it haha! I looks amazing, I can't stress that enough!!

I do, but I'm not sure how to share it as one flashable. It's meant to be made so that each person makes their own logo.bin on their device and mods it.
I'm a little confused. Are you saying that the obstacle is that you aren't able to flash it, and instead would have to replace the files manually??
I think I follow you, however my skill in tweaking it myself would be poor. I'd most certainly mess something up.
As long as you understand what I'm requesting, and you're aware that there's a need for it, I'm happy ???
You might figure it out eventually!!!
Thanks man!!!

However, just thinking..
Since we have the same phone, if you were able to create the file(s) and I could download them, I'm pretty sure I could make it work with proper instruction.
Its the "making the files myself" part that would get me in trouble..

This was what I was talking about, it's actually quite easy but I'm not really familiar with it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/bootlogo-viewer-view-flash-bootlogo-t2903998
Thanks for your help haha!!
I've downloaded the app, however it doesn't load. Instead I get a toast message that says root access is required. Obviously I'm already rooted. Is there a setting that I'm not checking somewhere??
I've attached the screenshot.

I'll suggest posting that on the thread above, I never tried the latest versions.
I know that there are threads where members provide some flashable boot animations for our OnePlus One phones, but I could not find any threads where someone offered to make custom 3D boot animations. As you all know, 99% of the boot animations that come with custom ROMs are nice enough, but all of them seem to be just 1 dimensional, flat and somewhat static. Resurrection Remix has a fairly good one, but still and all, it's just in a single plane.
What I am offering is to make a custom 3D boot animation for interested people which can be flashed in recovery or installed via a boot animation app. This could include 3D moving and rotating text, custom images for your background, various lighting effects, so on and so on. I think you all get the idea by now.
By limitations of the system, the animation will be no longer than 10 seconds, and the zip file needs to be under about 15MB. So, with that being said, I can't get too crazy with these as far as Hollywood effects goes, but I can make some respectable animations that you can rock on your phone!
Just to let you all get an idea of what I'm talking about, I made a couple of quick and simple animations that will fit our phones just perfect, in full screen, with no "box in the middle" effect. Remember, you can have any text (within reason), colors, etc.. for your custom animation. You can have a favorite photo in the background, wallpaper, mostly just about anything you can think up.
So, as I said, some quick simple examples attached below that you can download and watch to get an idea if this would be something that you are interested in. Unzip and watch in your favorite player. I didn't put a lot of time into them, because at this point, I don't know what the response is going to be.
And for the record, these are offered absolutely free of charge. Not even a cup of coffee donation. My way of giving back to the community.
Who wants a custom 3D animation tailored to their preferences?
