So after putting this issue on the back burner for a while I'm bringing it back up.
For a long time I had both the headset controls and lockscreen controls for audio working fine on both the stock rom and CM 5-6. Using both the iPhone headset and the Skullcandy Full Metal Jackets with mic/single button control. All was working great with the hero music player, pandora, grooveshark and last.fm.
At some point (around release #142) of updating the CM 6 nightlies both controls stopped working.
Fast forward to now, I have been running ASOP rom running 2.3 and just the other day did another complete wipe and installed CM 7. Still with a complete wipe of the phone and re-installation of these roms I don't have any control of the audio apps either by the headset or the lockscreen controls.
I've tried apps like headset button controller and other sorts of audio players but none work.
Now another note, I just tried debug mode in 'headset button controller' and it's recognizing all my button presses. long click, double and tripple clicks.
So, there's something with the commands not getting to the player apps.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated, it's a major pain in the ass when working out or riding the bike to have to stop/unlock/go to app... just to switch a song.
sorry, re-posting to the questions section...
Have you tried long pressing the volume up and down keys while the screen is off?

Hi
Something a little weird with my Optimus 2x. When I have bluetooth headphones connected, sometimes I loose all volume control. Today I was hitting the volume on the headphones, and it wasn't changing. When I turn down the volume on the phone, the sound dips to really quiet for a second or two, then jump back up to where it was.
My headphones are HELIUM DIGITAL HDBT-700
Any thoughts?
Thanks
So, I found out the problem is the Power Amp app. Everything works fine when I use the stock music player.
That's unfortunate; Power amp is a good player. Also the stock music widget is pretty ugly.
Is there a replacement for the stock music widget?
i know of phantom music control, and there's probably more.
phantom music control is compatible with most media player apps, has several button themes, and has the ability to hide itself when no music is playing.
Are there any patches/alternative kernels I can use to get the head phone buttons to work in SlimICS?
I'm looking for the volume and play/pause function that was on earlier releases.
I've installed PowerAMP, Winamp and tested the internal music player, but there is no difference. I also tried the "Kiss" kernel, but that didn't work well at all (Home button disabled and up was down and head phones wasn't even detected).
Any tips appriciated!
For quite a while my headset button hasn't been working. I thought that maybe it was broken so I bought a new one - a-Jays One+ but unfortunately it doesn't work either (the a-Jays Headset control doesn't register button presses).
Surprisingly my sister's HTC headset works just fine. So my question is where could the problem be located if anyone had seen similar malfunction.
I'm running CM7 Temasek's KANG 95 with newest EtANa kernel (no OC).
Even I have the same problem...
I am running CM9 with Spica's RC-1R
Previously it was working fine in my Stock Rom and CM7.
I'm running CM7.2 (but it also worked when I ran CM7.1) and I believe I have the same kernel as well.
My headset buttons work fine so far with a number of different headsets, however ONLY when you have a headset monitoring app installed.
If you haven't already installed an app search the play store for an app called "Jays headset control". It is an app made specifically for the Jays headsets but will work with any headset with a button.
If you are already using it then I have no idea and I'd say you're **** outta luck.
Also it's worth noting that due to a limitation in the O2x's hardware only single button headsets work. Headsets with a "forward, back and play" button will all register as pressing the "play" button.
One problem I do however have is the headset app will catch all my button presses however if I press the button once to pause my music and then wait more than about 10seconds to press the button again while the phone is "asleep" it will not catch any of my clicks and restart my music. I will physically have to pull my phone out, unlock it and press play with the app. So if anyone knows anything about that I'd appreciate some insight as it never used to do it.
I used Jays headset control and it didn't help. That's the weirdest things because it doesn't register the a-Jays headset clicks but does register the HTC headset ones.
Hi. On AHRD 41.0. I got new jay bird blue tooth headphones for Xmas. When I start streaming music the leu tooth volume maxes out and the slider doesn't hold the lowered volume consistently. I have been reading that this is an issue. Are there any mods /tweaks out there that people use? I have been combing threads and not finding anything useful. Thanks.

I fell back to 4.3 ahrd 31.6 and all is well. Kit kat is the issue.
Upgraded from 4.3 to HTC One Developer Edition on 4.4 w/ Sense 5.5
Had bluetooth jumping issue. A reboot fixes the issue if the first app used is stock music app.
Basically
Connected a bluetooth headphones to phone.
Volume button on headphone and volume button on phone work fine with Stock Android Music Player.
When Pandora is launched, bluetooth volume jumps to maximum setting on device - very deafening!
Hitting volume down button on headset OR on phone, moves the volume lower, but it continually jumps up to highest setting. Therefore unable to reduce volume in Pandora. Using bluetooth volume via the onscreen slider works, but it is still too loud at the lowest setting. The same behavior on the lock screen or if phone is asleep. The same effect continues to occur while Pandora is on the "Now Playing" screen or if I leave Pandora on the "Now Playing" screen. Using stock music app now has the same issue.
If the Pandora app is set to go to the "main screen" which displays "stations" bluetooth control of the volume is returned to normal. Both the controls on the headphone and on the phone work properly whereas pandora volume, bluetooth volume and headphone volume is all in sync. The volume jumping around stops. Now if I leave the Pandora app running and got to home screen, lock screen or allow the phone to sleep. The bluetooth volume works fine and doesn't jump around.
Going back into "now playing screen" or leaving pandora in "now playing" screen causes issues.
If you don't have pandora, check what other apps you have that running that are using music output to headphone.
Sideloading Pandora 4.4 apk fixes issues. Sideloading 5.0 re introduces the issue.

Great. This is helpful. Thank you for your reply.
Hi, I wonder if anyone can anyone help or ideas to my problem.
I come from a long line of Cowon audio players and am now using this phone as my main audio player because the quality is good, though the volume is low and because its convenient to carry one device, with all my music transferred to the 128GB card.
Anyhow, one thing I miss is the ability to use/assign the hardware buttons for basic audio control.
The Z3C has three buttons usable for custom control, though the volume is already assigned so maybe it leaves just one? The camera button.
Perhaps this button can be used with a sequence of presses to control Pause/FFD/RWD tracks (similar to handsfree buttons) or even the power button to control in music mode only and double press to awake phone as normal?
Is this possible at all. Can the signals of the wired handsfree be sent to the hardware buttons?
Phone is still on rooted KITKAT (kinks in 5.1.1 LP yet).
Thanks in advance.
well, you could use Pocket Skip Track to change/stop tracks with a long [or double] click on the volume up/down
as for the wired handsfree you can use JAYS Headset Control and set it so that a single click will start/stop the music, a double click will skip a track and a triple one will skip back.

Hey, thanks for that app, didn't know such existed. Looks promising :good:
Regarding the headset, I was just using it as an example to describe, sorry about the confusion. I use Jetaudio player, which can work with most buttoned headsets already.
But because I use real headphones, they don't have controls on them. Hence, being able to jump/skip tracks with just the Z3C buttons is needed.
Thanks so much for your help.
