On an iPhone, you click the headset's button once and music plays/pauses. Double-squeeze and it skips to the next track.
Anyone able to get this to work on the Captivate? If so, what app?
I tried Captivate's default music player app and doubletwist but it can only play/pause when using the headphone button.
not possible
Yes.. it is possible.
The player 3 (aka cubed) does this. Click headphone button to play/pause... double click to skip to next song... and long click to bring the player up to the front. Works great.
(From my Captivate via XDA app)
Most of the 3rd party media players let you do this... I personally use MixZing!
Damn I really miss this. I guess 3rd party music player for me it is.

Got double-squeeze to work on "3" (cubed) app. The interface needs getting used to, but at least it works.
Thanks for the tips!
Saw yesterday while browsing some apps, there is an add on or whatever for the stock music player and headphones that allows skipping, search, etc. Didn't get around to downloading it so can't say how well it works.
Jason
B-tunes also does this. At least the single click to play/pause. Never tried the rest with it. I don't have much time with b-tunes.
Works with Pandora, as well as the Vanilla 2.1 music player (just installed the .apk for it, titanium uninstalled the galaxy s player.
in winamp, single click plays/pauses, double skips to the next track, and long squeeze brings up the winamp player.
The stock music player + stock headphones works like this. I am not sure if itll skip to the next song, but I know it will pause/play
Sorry to revive an old thread!
This is a different device but i have a similar question (cant start new thread yet).
I have Samsung Galaxy S3 and all im trying to do is skip back a track using the supplied earphones. I cant get it to work can someone help?!
You should try clicking three times. The clocks should be done in rapid succession of each other.

Thanks for reply. I have tried that but it just skips forward. Looking around the net it looks like its not possible! Seems crazy! Wonder if it will be a jellybean addition? Have found a program that you can use to program buttons but still seems like a crazy feature not to be integrated!
In my experience the click to go back is usually just one more than the clocks to go forward. Please try again. Also what brand headphones are you using?

ive read there is a code that can be punched into the dialer to bring up the settings
the version i found just shuts down the dialer
maybe its the wrong code for our devices
The only thing I wish I could increase the volume of is the external speaker. Meltus' app doesn't appear to do that.

I'm running CM6.0/FroYo and that isn't an available option.
Copied from another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15406689
"I am surprised at the lack of information and help on the net for this issue. The in-call volume, and the speakerphone, are very quiet. Forget the radio and driving with the windows down, a moderate breeze is enough... I press the phone hard against my ear and still don't catch everything.
I've used CM's DSP manager to boost the speaker signal, and this isn't enough.
Even with full volume & the DSP boost, there is very little crackle. It's as if the speaker is barely utilized.
I haven't met anyone else with an Aria, but every other Android phone I've seen works perfectly fine as, you know, a phone."
There must be a way to overdrive the speaker, right?
Heads up, the Engadget app now works in landscape, and is more or less Honeycomb optimized. Still has the menu button down at the bottom though.
I wish that they had just said stretched for landscape.

unfortunately it doesn't work nicely with the site's videos... but it's much more pleasant now... still, videos are deal breaker, will still access through the browser (just hope they fix the UA detection redirecting to the mobile version soon...)

This is an idea I had while trying to get use to my tablet as a head unit. I found it very annoying that I had to switch screens to change the volume or tracks.
I wanted to see if anyone would think it would be a good idea to add a few buttons to the navigation bar like a skip back, forward, play/pause, volume up/down.
I'm trying to figure it out myself but I'm not the greatest programmer so I figured if I shared my idea someone might might be able to figure it out.
This is what I was thinking!

I have almost finished an app which will add next/previous/play and many other things to the soft button bar. Maybe I'll add volume controls too. For the moment the app was planned with the new bar style in mind ( aka not the omni bar seen from 3.0 to 4.1 which was abandoned in 4.2) but I think a little tweak will render it compatible.
I'll keep you updated.

Make sure you add your request on the thread. :good:
I haven't seen anyone talking about Sense TV so I thought I would start a conversation.
If you have not tried it out yet, DO IT!
Sense TV is awesome. It takes you through a guide to setup your TV provider (Many to choose from), you TV, cable/sattelite box, and even you AV receiver.
You tell it your favorite shows and I think it even learns your viewing behavior to suggest things that are on or are coming on soon. I can completely control everything with my TV Dish box, and AV receiver.
When you open the app it will tell you some of the shows on now or you can go to the guide. The really cool thing is you just click on the show and it changes the channel for you. So sweet!
Anyone else loving this App?
Silly but it's probably one of my favorite things. I've used it all weekend with my tvand Directv setup.

Although it's awkward getting into some other, deeper options of my surround system or cable box, if I can at all, it IS kind of awesome!
I especially love the channel guide. little icons of TV shows you can just press and be whisked away to that channel. That is really handy! If Zeebox could be updated to incorporate the IR blaster on this think, think of the possibilities!
I was amused by the addition of the it and thought "that might be cool in a few months when it's left to mature".. But its pretty damn cool now!
kudos, HTC!

My TV remote recently bit the dust and I was in the process of looking for a replacement. But....not now!!! I can't adjust sensitive TV settings such as color tweaks and stuff but, I can do all the normal functions from my phone. Even change inputs and stuff.
This app helped my out a ton for sure. Now can someone please bring me my popcorn?
This is the shirt!!! It's awesome, wish it gets full epg though for all channels

will it control the channels through a dvr while controlling the volume of a home theater receiver at the same time? very cool if so, we use a Logitech remote right now, but would be nice having a second remote so to speak

Odd. It works for me. I used it with netflix last night watching Lost(I was slow on the draw with this show). But it should work fine. Try unplugging the PC and then setting up another remote.

Nice!!!
Guys I work in the av field as well as home security. It can control anything that has ir if you have the orig remote. You can program the buttons with any ir code, The iphone needs a separate ir blaster and app which is like 80$. Talk about a huge bonus.
It's such a small feature, but yet so incredibly useful. I absolutely love it and have tossed my other remotes in a drawer. It did take me a minute to figure out how to browse the tv guide feature, but once I did it was my new favorite app.
