on the tmo website it says
Band (Frequency):
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
3G/4G: 850/AWS/1900/2100. would that mean i would get 3g if i get this on att?my area uses 850 as 3g i think.
yes, it should. Good luck getting it unlocked though.

This is what I got from them:
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time. Per the manufacturer this device was designed to be used in conjunction with a T-Mobile SIM card only and therefore, a SIM Unlock code is not available. T-Mobile does have other handsets available for International Travel that can be unlocked to use on other networks. Please visit our website at www.T-mobile.com.
Thank You,

Hi all,
I sold my Nexus One on ebay as being "unlocked" and working with both AT&T and T-Mobile. it worked fine for 3G on my T-Mobile account, but the buyer said when he put his AT&T sim card in it though it only worked on the edge network. He pulled off the battery and checked the FCC id number and it is nm8PB99100, which matches the ID number on the box. This means it's the T-Mobile 3G version and not the AT&T version, the AT&T version would be 99110.
He said the 3G AT&T version is the 850/1900 model, which mine was not.
What exactly can I do in this situation? Thanks for any help.
easy, just tell him to switch carriers

t-mobile and at&t use different frequencies for their 3g network.
That's why Google has a T-Mobile version of the N1, and an at&t version. The t-mobile that works with t-mobile 3g, does NOT work with at&t 3g. And vice versa. The guy is screwed and can use at&t edge network, but not 3g.
He is not screwed, I've been using the t-mobile version on att for about a year and it's not to bag. I use wifi at home and at work.

I think the he's screwed referred to his desire to get 3G reception on AT&T with a T-Mo Nexus One.
You can ask for your phone back, refund the buyer and know your facts next time.

The phone IS unlocked. Meaning it works with Tmobile or ATT. So you did get it right there. Just like the others are saying. Tmobile N1 wont work on ATT 3G and visa versa. If you never stated that it will work on ATT 3G in the beginning i dont see it as your fault. The user should of asked questions prior to buying the phone. Unlocked doesnt mean it will work on both networks 3G's service. Unlock just means the phone will work on any network with a SIM.
Unlocked means that it is not locked to a specific carrier, not that it will work on any network. Depending on your area a tmo phone may or may not be able to ride 3G. In my area it would be edge only. If you said the phone was AT&T compatible for 3G your description was incorrect, a compatible phone would support both 850 and 1900. If you said it "might" work on AT&T, area depending, then you were honest as far as a court date would go. Were it me I would offer to refund so long as the buyer payed shipping regardless of how I worded it. Usually you have to suffer to do the right thing, in this case you can do it for nothing.
thanks for all your help guys, he sent it back and i gave him a full refund and posted it back on ebay with the correct information.

Nope. I think they tired to do that before on the G1, but finally gave up and said it was impossible.
Noo because it is a hardware issue.
Hi is I just Carrier(Sim) unlocked the phone with HTCunlocker.com for $35. First try they didn't find it in the database the they searched in 2013 and I got it unlocked. I can use it on T-Mobile 4G. Getting very fast speeds.

Not by default, but you should be able to request AT&T to unlock the device while on contract with them like you would with any other device, at which point you could get a micro sim from T-Mobile instead. You would likely need to pay an ETF to AT&T though, if you want to terminate your service with them after buying the phone, assuming you bought the phone on subsidy/contract.
Well I just called At&t and HTC they are both not able to unlock.

Did you purchase it off-contract? If not, they definitely can't unlock it for you. However, if they did, I'd call back in a few weeks. IIRC it takes a bit before they get unlock codes.
not unlockable at "first", haha.

This device is exclusive to AT&T for the first month of its life, later to be released to T-Mobile and Verizon I'd wager.
Until this exclusivity is up, the phone will remain carrier-unlockable.
(excluding those unlocking websites, not sure about them.)

Do you know if T-Mobile had refarmed the 1900 band in your area, or do you think the First actually supports T-Mobile HSPA bands (like aws 1700)?

Also hoping for clarification
Definitely wanting this phone but not trying to pay $80/mo. at AT&T when I can go prepaid at T-Mo. There's some confusing overlap between bands that I'm not entirely sure how to take apart. Here's from GSMarena's specs:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 - for AT&T
4G Network LTE 700 / 1700 / 2100
Is there a band-limited version specifically for AT&T? And does the lack of 1700/2100 in 3G networks on the First prevent that from working?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile_USA#Radio_frequency_spectrum_chart
For those wondering - AT&T is selling this guy for $350 in store, no contract right now. If you bring in an older working smartphone (I have one or two lying around) they'll give you $100 off - so that's $250. Sign up for their cheapest talk-only plan, $25/mo, then cancel right away and take it on over to T-Mobile, you got yourself a nice $50-$60 plan, and according to the T-mo guy, LTE and everything. I'm about to pull the trigger this weekend.

I'm thinking of getting the First as a 2nd phone so that when my Nexus 4 is dead or charging I can use the First and just move my T-Mo SIM between them. My job requires i do a lot of phone time, I wish they had a better battery for the N4, I love it but it feels like a small battery.

I've read that that the 1700 and 2100 are needed for data to work. I've compared a lot of phones on phonescoop and all the T-Mobile phones have 17 & 21 frequencies.

Thought I should just update to say that my AT&T First works just fine with T-Mobile, once I put in the correct APN settings (which may differ for your area? best to google).
Paired with their $30 100 minute /unlimited everything plan, this is looking to be a real solid setup.

When you say "it works fine," do you mean "I can make/receive calls/messages" or "I get 3G+ speeds, plus all the other stuff". ANY phone that takes a sim card will "work just fine" with T-mobile, but that's not the point of having a smartphone.
I'm guessing the only way to get "4G" is if you live in the refarmed areas.

Is this on AT&T or T-Mobile?
Hi all.
I have been using my AT&T S4 Active on T-Mobile for the past week. I got it unlocked via an eBay seller and everything has been working great thus far. I had a question though regarding bands and whether or not all the bands available to me are unlocked. Right now where I live I pick up 4G/LTE (although not as strong in my apartment and cuts in and out periodically). I had read that when you unlock a phone via the code it automatically unlocks the bands that were previously not available (when locked to AT&T). Another thread I read that the user has to still unlock those bands. I was hoping someone could clarify this and point me in the right direction! Thanks guys!

Are you able to use mobile data with only unlocking the phone? I am about to buy this phone but i heard after unlocking only call/sms will work and not data.
I read here that for data we need to do other stuff
This phone says " LTE Bands 2, 4, 5 and 17" on AT&T website and I'm wondering if this phone will work on other carriers LTE network(T-Mobile, Verizon, or others?)? I know Verizon is CDMA and at&t and T-Mobile are GSM but can anyone answer this?

I got the AT&T SGH-i537 model. Pay $15 to have it unlock. Now using it with T-mobile. I got LTE. In some area, I got 23mbps download and 3.6mbps upload. It doubled my Galaxy Nexus speed. The device status info said I am on LTE:14
However, my mobile tethering is disabled. Need to find a way to enable that. Stupid AT&T lock it.
As long as you have the correct setting input into your phone your data will work ( assuming you have a data plan). I remember when the original Iphone came out I unlocked it for T-mobile and had internet on it even though it was branded AT&T only. (EDGE lol 56kb speed) but still it worked...
Root
I unlocked mine with ATT and used it with TMobile while I was in Hawaii. I only had to put my SIM in and I got pretty fast speeds (around 22mbps from what I remember) I don't know if that's the normal speed but compared to the crappy speeds on Guam it was lightening speeds to me! No root or anything needed, no difference after rooting either.
i can confirm it works minus teathering due to att
This is interesting as I thought ATT phones cannot receive Tmobiles LTE.

We all know that the HTC One M8 has a sim card tray. And I plan on going to the Philippines next month and use Smart's network in the Philippines for a month. Is it possible with the Sprint Version? I know its possible with the Verizon M8.

Yes, it has the correct frequency to run voice/data in Philippines. It needs Nano-Sim. You'll need to sim unlock your phone. Do your research on this.
I haven't tested method:

As we all know sprint will unlock it after staying with them for 90 days, but more often than not an alternative method is needed. There is a working method for the M7 that i have tried. I would be interested if anyone had any luck in unlocking the sprint M8.

Once you SIM-unlock, you should be able to get some HSPA data, but since the carriers there only offer LTE on 1800 and 2100 MHz, you won't get 4G.

You could also use it on "AT&T" and "T-Mobile" Straight Talk. You would only get LTE bands 2 & 4 for both those carriers, but would also have access to HSPA bands.
The Droid Turbo is carrier unlocked. Many people use it on T-Mobile and AT&T.

Thanks for the reply that is how I understood it. I was just confused as to why Straight Talk was telling me it was incompatible. Perhapse they "know" I still owe Verizon one more payment on it.
Another question: I know you use ATT; do you know of a map that shows what bands ATT uses where for LTE?

I know LTE Discovery app captures location LTE bands, but I don't know if they have a public map the way Open Signal does.
Open Signal shows LTE availability for various carriers, but I don't they differentiate by which band.

Yes, you probably don't have a "clean" IMEI right now.
Once your contract is fulfilled, it will probably show OK.
