So after a couple of months using the Hero I wanted to share the Widgets I still use. My sense UI now has allot of app icons but I still find most of these Widget useful. Please add any suggestions and I will post them up on page. Lets create a resource to make the iphone peeps jealous
3RD PARTY WIDGETS:
BBC News (8/10) two widgets on my home page one for most popular and another for tech or sport
News Buzz (7/10) Still good but have stopped using it
Weather Bug (small) (5/10) Removed it
S2 CalenderWidget (9/10) for me by far the best calendar widget (two types to choose from)
Andriod and Me (small)(3/10) If nothing else to do a nice for android information
Twidriod Pro (8/10) simple but works well
Google scoreboard (9/10) I like this allot good for all sports updates
Facebook (don’t have an account I‘m a twitter man)
HTC WIDGETS:
HTC calendar (small) (8/10) Removed
HTC Settings GPS/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/Mobile (8/10) Good functions I now only have gps as ModaCo's roms have a wifi off app already installed
HTC Weather/Clock (9/10) Still nice looking but have gone for 2X2 icon without clock
HTC bookmarks (8/10) still use them
HTC footprints (Large) (8/10) Was fun at first but now removed
HTC Album (4/10) Removed
HTC Picture frame( 4/10) still use it
Contacts (8/10) nice but don’t use
Other than the stock HTC widgets - small music player, messaging and the ones you listed, I also use Google's Scoreboard. If you're into sports, its pretty good.
Oh and I have the Facebook widget too.
Someone should write one for xda-devs, it could show you PMs and when people reply to your threads/posts.... Or maybe I'm just beginning to rely on the Hero just a little too much these days.
I agree Floridak xda dev should be more mobile friendly. It would be nice to get updates via a widget. It would also be nice yo have a mobile edition web page that you can post on.
+1
totaly agree with the XDA-widget!
yep xda mobile support would be great

what's different than getting to mob portal from web portal home page? (other than saving a click)
lets get back on topic. Any new Widgets out there?
try feedr. It's $0.99 but you can create an rss feed of xda forums and then place as many widgets on your desktops as you like..I like it a lot.
i use the normal xda website all the time from my hero, i find it great and if you zoom in the auto format setting kicks in to save you the hassle
Did anyone hear of widget that would show/hide my number when calling with one press on a home screen ? That would save a lot of effort

I found interesting the Volume Widget Pro.
It's pretty nice and really useful to change music and alarm volume level from the home screen. And it has lot's of options to configure the colors of the widget.
What I'm using.
Twidgit, nice little widget shows the latest tweet.
BBC news, small widget that shows the latest headline.
Did have 'android and me' but it wasn't much of interest on it.
Ditto engaget.
I posted about this issue a while back when i first got my Hero. I was told it was not possible then. I`m hoping someone can remedy this issue as i hate having to scroll through 30-40 apps to find what i`m looking for. Even WM 6.1 has this facility!

This post is targeted towards all the leakers out there. If you're still looking for a Nexus One-style home replacement app, look no further than LauncherPro Beta. It has an app launcher drawer with a *very* smooth 3D fly-in effect, a la the Nexus One. Home screen scrolling stutter is also eliminated, and overall the app just flies performance-wise.
I'm sure many of you have heard of it; this thread is for the people who haven't. Please no flaming.
EDIT: You can also "pinch-zoom" the home screen to get a helicopter view - just like the Sense UI.

Yeah its a decent little application, However you should probably post this in themes and apps as it doesn't relate to development. Not flaming just saying you posted in the wrong forum.
I agree with you that it doesn't really belong here, but I was hoping to ward off a lot of the people complaining about not having root and how they can't make their phone look like a Nexus One. Maybe my efforts are futile...
I use LauncherPro on my Eris. I have one tip to throw out there for root users who want to use this... the app doesn't (yet) have a feature to customize what the dock icons do. And on a Sense-based ROM, you will probably be getting the HTC Messaging app by default with no way to switch it (at least that's what happened to me). That's fine if you use that, but I only use Handcent SMS, for example.
So I had to use ADB to rename /system/app/Mms.apk to Mms.bak... no adverse affects seen from that yet. Handcent took over automatically. Downside being you can't use the HTC app anymore unless you reverse the change.

Yeah all you have to do is remove Mms.apk and Browser.apk and you get handscent and xscope as defaults (if u have them installed of course). Not technically custom, but still what I wanted
Try updating to his newest release. 0.2.0. I have mine themed and since his newest release on 5.19, my sms opens to chomp. should work with handscent as well, I have not deleted my default sms.
hope that helps.
I like...has anyone confirmed sense widgets working with it yet?
Sense Widgets do not appear as an option in adding onto the launcher pages.
Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk
sense widgets will not work with launcherpro. it is a stock home replacement. only android widgets work. however, flip clock and weather widget is an app that mimics the htc flipclock. you have to install the ht7 theme for the flipclock and weather icons. looks identical. either that or beautiful widgets. there are no other apps created that mimic the rest of the widgets tho... yet. however there are a few android widgets that will suffice tho. use them to your own liking. I wish htc would create Senseui replacement app. Meaning, open source skinning for sense ui. its one of the main reasons why i rooted my phone. We all like the functionality of those widgets, but they wont make them open source. that would discourage many from rooting and voiding thier warranties. id pay for that app and themes as well!
yea, doesnt belong here, but launcherpro IS SWEET!!!!!!!
I really liked LauncherPro Beta... but i also fell in love with HelixLauncher mostly because you can customize the bottom bar for any apps that you want and its also free on the market
The developer of that app is actually working on updating it to be able to customize the bottom dock. I did a lil reading here on the boards & found a way to re route the messaging shortcut to handcent. Works like a charm. Til then ill still rock with sense until that update comes along. If your rooted and using ported hero rom, try adw launcher. Its the best so far. Now it has the customizable bottom dock. Its A flashable file so use at your own risk. And do not forget to do nandroid backup.

Its called Weather Widgets and its made by the "Android Apps" people. It looks JUST LIKE the sense Clock/Weather widget and functions the same way too. Its what I use with the Launcher Pro Beta. Looks just like sense. I believe its a paid app though.
Also, Weather Widgets (yr.no) by Thomware is very close to sense also.
Just installed LauncherPro Beta, and I LOVE it. Now that you can change what the shortcuts on the bottom go to, I believe I'm going to completely abandon HelixLauncher. This one is WAY better.
I use LauncherPro Beta. I love it. Customize the dock, change screens
Pretty fast too. MFLOPS 3.34 @ 1.62 sec, 3.358 @ 1.61 sec, 3.323 @ 1.63.
Not too bad. OC to 768.
Is there a way to replace the stock launcher home (not rosie) with this launcher been trying all day....i really want to be a pro and put the new launcher in system/apps as opposed to data/app
is this possible ?
Edit: nevermind I got it
ADW
Guys, ADW launcher is in the market now. just search adw
I find this blows even launcherpro away
edit: and it's free too, just like launcher.
I just installed adw a few days ago, switching from launcherpro, so trust me, I don't have anything against launcherpro
ADW is pretty cool. Was using Launcher Pro. Think I'll use ADW for a while.

anyone know of one? the absolute biggest draw for me to Sense UI is that beautiful clock/weather widget. If I could get a good copy of it, I would be more willing to switch to vanilla roms.
I know there is that flip clock that looks just like it without the weather, and by the same person there is a weather widget that looks like it without the clock. however, splitting them up doesnt look good at all, and the weather is always 10 degrees off.
there's also beautiful widgets... which costs money. so if anyone knows of a sense ui clock clone, or hell, if you know of any clock/weather combos that you think look cool, go ahead and share it too, if I cant find a clone, maybe I can find one that's better!
Weather & toggle widget, by android apps. You have to instal the ht7 skin for the clock a and the weather. it has nice weather animations too. Very similar to htc but no full screen animating when coming off the lockscreen. I believe its a dollar in the market, but something like that is definitely worth it..

Closest thing I've found so far..
spend the 2 bucks...
Beautiful widgets is well worth the whopping two bucks...loads of skins for both the clock and the weather, you can hide the background, change font colors and now you can even hide the weather if you want. By far my favorite even over the sense ui original.
I can do all of that with weather and toggle widgets. And it's free, not that 2 bucks is a lot, just sayin

Weather and toggle (android apps) is also a paid app now and has been for a while...there is a free version but it has a lot less features...either way there are options out there.
I have both Beautiful Widgets and Weather and Toggle .... they are both awesome apps .... I will go thru phases ...right now I have been using Weather/toggle widgets more .....but next week it may be different

This is what I was about to suggest, it is free and looks exactly like the original, and when you tap the weather part of the widget, a 5 day forecast window pops up very quickly.
Love it.
fancy widget looks like its gonna do the trick! it's exactly one for one what I was looking for. brings up a forecast and the clock app when you click on it in different areas. too bad there's no animation, but I can live without it, it just looks so cool.
the other suggestions were great as well, I tried every one that's in here (if it was free, I'm a total cheap skate)
thanks everyone!
Does anyone have the other HTC Apps that are shown on the hub in all the photos.
Notes, Stickys and flash light?
All i have is the photo editor
No, on my O2 handset they are also missing.
If you go into Marketplace > Applications there is an 'HTC Apps' category on the first screen but selecting it only says 'not available'. I was hoping there would be either some pre-installed or available to download free to HTC devices. Bedside Clock was the one I wanted forthe HD7.
I'm disappointed by the quality of HTC's apps so far.
They are still designing their apps in the Sense style, when everything about Windows Phone 7 is Metro. For a good example of this, have a look at the Unit Converter app (by Microsoft) available from the Marketplace. It fits perfectly with the Metro style. The HTC Converter app is garish in comparison with too much faux-3d bezels, borders and colour. I uninstalled it immediately. The same applies to the Stocks app; it doesn't fit with WP7.
And in fairness to many of the other developers on the Marketplace, they have seen the advantages of the Metro style and have developed their GUIs in accordance.
Let's hope HTC will release future apps in the Metro style.

I totally agree! I was getting so tired of the Sense UI, which I've used since early Touch3D, and have been looking forward to change - they have flooded the market putting it on WM and Android.
I think the new HTC HUB is a big let down, the apps don't have a common interface, it takes too long to get into the weather. All the HTC hub is for is eyecandy.
HTC created the "info at a glance" UI with Sense, but they have totally lost the plot.
The flashlight app is probably the only one I'll continue to use. Am I right in thinking that most of the flashlight apps on the Marketplace don't actually use the LEDs on the back, they just change the display to full brightness?
I have to say the Love app is particularly bizarre..

Hi I have the Htc HD 7 on O2 network Uk and I have download all the Htc apps and are running fine.
although I do feel that htc hub is a waste on the phone. I t should have been more like how they have it on android. I beleive Microsoft is at fault.
But they are brilliant apps though too bad they dont compliment WM7 much as they do android .
Might get my self an Desire Hd as well
I was thinking about this. If we choose to use a custom launcher, we will likely lose blinkfeed, right? I've got a dozen or so Apex tricks that I have come to rely on. I wonder how this will work??
I know in the past when i used a One X using a custom launcher pretty much removed all the Sense apps so I could see that happening again this time
i must be one of the only people looking forward to blinkfeed!
i almost always had a sports news widget on my homescreen (though not the main one to be fair) and for a large amount of time twitter and facebook too - to have all of that on a dedicated screen (not even a widget) should be really great for me.
I'm looking forward to blinkfeed myself. I thought more people would love that feature. I think it's great.
Sense 5 is so sexy. Why would anyone want to install a different launcher on it?

My wife is probably going to love it. I would prefer to be able to move it to off center. I'm not totally thrilled with any FB or Twitter (-Caster is my favorite on both) widget, but I use them for feeds as well. I can see liking it, providing it's fairly customizable.

I'm going to give it a go. I only use 3 homescreens currently anyway and my default one if very sparse with only 4 apps. The idea of blink feed seems good, as long as it can sync with all the stuff I look at on currents I will be pretty happy.
Still no word on the menu button for legacy apps though.
Yes, using a custom launcher will mean you'll lose blinkfeed.
The only way around that will be to wait until someone has made blinkfeed into a separate flashable zip. At that point, you'll be able to set up your custom launcher as you'd like and then I guess you'd just be able to flash blinkfeed to have the functionality of both.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.
HTC Widgets only work on stock launcher, I don't see why Blinkfeed would be any different.
M.
Far as I can tell blink feed is another screen on sense. No sense=no blink. Personally I hope a dev can get rid of it. I don't need a news thing and I don't use Facebook or twitter so it seems kinda useless. Id like to see a messaging panel on it with a quick reply like on the Ubuntu touch where its in the notification.

I am looking forward to trying out blinkfeed as it now follows holo guidelines and they have dropped the horrid 3d look for a much more modern flat look and if I don't like it I will put on a custom launcher.
Does anyone know if you can move the blinkfeed to another home screen as it would in my opinion be much nicer in the middle screen so you can swipe left or right for widgets/apps
It is one of the things I like too. But I also like being able to turn off icon labels, create my on gestures, etc. in Apex. Seems like it might be kind of like switching to an iphone -- if you want blinkfeed, you lose ability to customize.
Meanwhile, I'm sittin' on my hands until I see a few audio reviews.

Hi. I pre-ordered and already have my hands on a shiny new HTC One, and BlinkFeed was not one of the reasons I bought it. One of the first things I did after getting the phone was installing Apex Launcher. I use its gestures too and I like the customizability it offers. Thankfully for me, BlinkFeed indeed goes away with a custom launcher

My One is in for repairs but in the week I was using it i didn't notice any noticeable battery drain from Blinkfeed the the first few days battery life doesn't tend to be good as it needs a couple of charging cycles but certainly battery life is very good.
I'm a big fan of Nova I use it on my Nexus7 but i doubt I will be on my one.

hey, i'm surprised about the battery life with blinkfeed. Also the data traffic is less, in one week i had used only 40mb for blinkfeed. I think thats great.
