How do you unroot the phone if the need arises? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm about to root my Hero for the first time but I want to know how to go back to factory default if I ever have to take it in to get fixed? The furthest I'm going to go is gain root access so I can turn it into a hot spot.

The easiest way would be to use the forum search. It will bring you your answers.

Three little letters. RUU.

I used universal androot, it supposedly has a one-click unroot feature, or you could always run the RUU.
Regardless, I doubt you'll ever go back to stock. I, too, rooted only for wifi tether then I realized how much better custom roms were. Fast forward a few months and I'm running gingerbread and you couldn't pay me to go back to stock.

My dad has the Sanyo Zio, and I'm looking to speed it up

No offense to anyone here, but I cant even fiddle with his phone for more than 30 seconds before I get frustrated by it's sluggishness and just hand it back to him. It's phones like that that prevented me from buying an Android phone for so long, but now I have the Evo and love it.
So, what can I do to help him out here? It's fully updated. Mostly I'd want to look into some sort of overclock and removing the sprint bloatware. Nothing fancy, just something to make it more functional.
First and foremost you need to root the phone using universal androot or z4 one click root.
Get root explorer to remove the bloatware. Once it is installed open up root explorer navigate to data/FLEX and remove bloatware.
Then you can start speeding up the phone using sysctl config app in the market. We have a thread with recommended settings floating around here somewhere. VM Heap tool and BladeBuddy to turn off stagefright, you can also use apps like SD speed increase to gain a lil speed from your sd card. After doing all of that and dialing the settings in the phone should run like a dream.
Just don't brick it. We will not take liability in the case that the phone no longer functions properly or if the battery blows up or any thing that happens from modifying the phone.
Now before you go buck wild with your dad's phone please read more about rooting and sysctl but first question is, cricket or sprint?

I never had issues with the Zio mine was great on speed an UI, rootedfrom day one. I got a semi bricked one for free im trying to flash it back as it out performs the Optius...though nothing seems to work. Ive tried booting it at least 4-5 ways. Ive used original rom, custom rom, ive tried pushing the images for boot through usb as well. Anyone got any ideas? Id love make some some custom mods for it.

Please tell me you arent trying to push the roms / themes from here on XDA. They are cricket images and wont work on sprint.
Aside from that, you may need to get someone with a working sprint zio and try to perform a nand backup from a fresh hard reset that you can hopefully restore. I dont even know if CWM recovery will work for sprint but read the thread here and give it a shot to see if it boots.
My Zio is a cricket its NOT a Sprint...

I dont think there are any stock 1.6 img files anywhere around here. Just out of curiosity why the hell would you want the stock 1.6 img anyway??
I have 1.6 images

But I promise you if it's cricket, flash the openzio rom once spz includes the kernel.
Sent from my Zio using XDA Premium App
OK, so the prob with this Zio is the last owner attempted to do the 2.2 over the air update and it failed, causing it to not boot right, then a Cricket Rep. Reloaded the OS and now it won't go passed the green droid at original start screen. Sure hope that kernel arrives soon. Thanks for all the help I appreciate it!
Sent from my LG-LW690 using XDA Premium App
Have you tried erasing everything in fastboot and flashing imgs in fastboot?
Sent from my Zio using XDA Premium App
Everything is off it, I assume since the OS was reloaded it has no root, this is my first time with a difficult phone too.I have ODIN if someone would be willing to walk me through that process I'd be VERY MUCH appreciative, it's possible I've over complicated this in my head, if it has no root am I skrewed? PC won't recognize it in usb, and I'm new to adb so getting files to it is tricky for a rookie like me ={
Sent from my LG-LW690 using XDA Premium App
Scrapped that zio...even ODIN didn't help...trading that zio and this LG for an out the box brand new Droid Incredible...coming completely set up rooted, backed up,and with a tested custom ROM optimized for speed and performance! Thanks to all the awesome ppl who helped me try and get that Zio going ^_^
Sent from my LG-LW690 using XDA Premium App
Good luck with the new phone... sorry that the Zio is too complicated to use, unfortunately we only have a few devs around here... the incredible has plenty of support and everything will be easy. If you have trouble with that phone it will be user error.

What do I need to run google body on my verizon tab?

I want this thing to run what it should be able to run. Is root even worth it on the verizon tab? Seems no one is supporting it. Everything is either wifi our gsm.

You need Honeycomb.
But there I is no honeycomb love for the verizon tab is there? And from what I have read, rooting a verizon tab is asking for trouble!

I think rooting the verizon tab is only sketchy if start messing with updates, roms, etc. I rooted mine the day I got it several months ago and loaded the voodoo plus kernel to overclock to 1.4ghz. Other than an issue that popped up with the Lookout app and finally getting the EC02 update notification to stop with a build.prop edit, it's been as close to perfect for me as I expect from a piece of tech and runs much better than those first few hours I used it prior to rooting. The main reason I wanted to root almost immediately was so I could restore my Titanium Backup apps from my Evo so I would keep all my app settings and scores.
I considered flashing one of the few VZW tab roms available or unrooting to install the EC02 update, but I figure it's better to leave good enough alone.

Rooted but i didnt root wtf!

ok so this morning i started up my bionic noticed one of my apps was in the wrong spot so i scrolled thru them and noticed the super user app was installed! WTF, opened it up of course nothing in the log, so i downloaded a root checker sure enough the SU app popped up asking for permission! sure enough i granted it SU permissions and it was given full access WTF!
how did my bionic root its self!

i wouldnt chance a root with such a new phone i mean the sbf and what not is barely out there!
trust me i didnt do anything, is there a way to check to see how it was rooted?
I could maybe possibly see a spontaneous bug rooting your phone, but it could not have possibly been a bug that installed superuser and the terminal emulator. Possibilities I can see:
1. You used to have a rooted phone and synced the backup with your bionic, thus reinstalling superuser.
2. someone else rooted it for you without telling you
3. You bought the phone used and it was already rooted

Also, for the record, yes the "SBF" is out there. We are all rooted and playing with our phones because there is a recovery. It's just not called SBF anymore, it's FXZ.

Not to hijack but, my bionic is rooted and wireless tether doesn't work, how can I get wireless tethering working, or is it possible? Thanks in advance
As for op, you must have done something I've never seen a phone root itself, though would be a nice option to have

Here it is enjoy. Also you need to reboot and turn it on and off a few times as described in the guide.
Also may need to change the starting ip. I had to do that on a few of them. But I can confirm it does work.
Also this mehtod works best with the verizon hotspot app. I haven't bothered trying to get wireless tether to work. But I'm sure its possible

I have a feeling you downloaded an app or a 3rd party app. A while vback there was a scare where an app actually rooted your phone without you knowing. Its far fetch but not impossible. Seen it happened before.
That's why its so important to check permissions on all apps and especially funky dev names.

ZV8 update

Just got a notification to update to ZV8 on my GVolted revo. Anyone else seen this or know what is updating? I cancelled it until I found out more about it. Verizon's Revolution support site only mentions zv7.

I was tempted to let the update go through to see what it did, but I'm currently driving from San Francisco to yuma, AZ and need my phone for navigation/music purposes and didn't want to kill my phone for the rest of my trip if something went wrong.
I am curious to know what it does though, if anyone's brave enough to risk losing root, or updates by accident

any way to stop besides deferring?
Don't update unless you put stock recovery back on other wise it will fail then you are going to see if you can get root again hopefully, one of the newer exploits for the esteem/spectrum might help with this.

Wifes phone updated and radio, kernal, build #, and sw version changed. It just said phone enhancements so im not sure what yet...lol. Tried mine for the hell of it and downloaded fine but wouldnt install due to clockwork, so i just rebooted and all is same as it was. Will switch recoveries later and try again.

Has anyone tried using Taco Root for the EVO 4G to see if it can still give you Temp Root? I cannot try it since my cpu is out of commission.

By evo 4G do u mean the og evo 4g that was released a few years back when Sprint used wimax or the new one that has LTE? If wimax then it's probably not going to work because of the major differences between phone and Android versions. For the LTE I don't think it will work because of the hboot and Android version differences. As for temp rooting the phone, is there a reason u don't want to just root the phone the normal way? Currently u can S-Off and revert the phone back to complete stock. If your worried about warranty being void then it's more of a gamble with HTC. I sent my phone for camera repairs after I reverted my phone to stock and I wasn't charged for anything and I used HTC website to unlock it, there are a lot more people that have done the same on xda.
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
Yes that's the same root file. I just remember using it and on a few phones I had rooted back in my Evo days. I have don't the HTC dev unlock but someone else want to root the phone the temp way then s-off without using dev.
