I have a theory that Google intentionally leaves the stock apps horrible as to let the third party replace them, therefore bolstering the quality and quantity of apps. It makes sense, considering the only app you really can't replace is the settings(im sure if you tried you could do it with root). I have no evidence, but it would work to, again, improve the third party apps.

I agree, and I guess that's Google borrowed form Apple.

...no. I don't really see it.
You have people modifying Ferraris and Lamborghinis left and right with body kits and exhaust that deviate the car away from the tried-and-true formula that is akin to those companies. Similar to android, it doesn't matter how good or stable of an OS it is or what it has, if there is a need/want for something, someone will have an app for it because, ultimately, everyone has a different taste. The ideology of Google/AOSP, which is different from Apple, is to give developers a clean plate to personalize their phone while providing support for the core system. It has nothing to do with supplying "horrible" first party apps.
What lude219 said.
Moreover, it's not just the execution but also the concept that users will disagree on. I like HTC's Time/Weather widget that is animated and has neat visual effects. One friend of mine uses a minimalist widget that's strictly a text read-out, and thinks all the graphics are a waste and stupid. Another friend thinks the whole thing is stupid and would rather use the Weather Channel's app on an as-needed basis.
We're all different. Android's strength is not in doing anything in particular, but in providing the freedom for manufacturers / carriers / individual users / communities to do for themselves what they want, and thereby allow for this really nice ecosystem. Freedom is amazing.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to get this issue on TV? Something like CNN TECH, X-Play, or Attack of the Show. Maybe something a bit more national and mainstream would spark a bigger fire. I think all of the technology websites linking the story are a HUGE help, maybe its time to call in the larger media cannons.
Can we get more threads about this today?

This just in, HTC an electronic gadget creater has pissed off some 13000 nerds with overpriced phones. From our understanding the gadgeteers decided to neglect its customer base by omitting a video driver in it's software package. This missing video driver is responsible for poor renduring of the display and the nerds also accuse it of slowing down the phone and causing crappy camera quality.
Now back to your regurly scheduled program.

I'm using your app, it's pretty nice. I have a couple of suggestions.
First, the panorama on the first screen seems unnecessary, and makes it somewhat difficult to see shirtaday, about, and dailysteal. Maybe a vertical StackPanel inside a ScrollViewer would work better.
Second, when something is clicked, I immediately see the literal words "Item Name" and other placeholders that change once the data is loaded. The change between those placeholders and the real data is a bit jarring. I'd recommend a simple PerformanceProgressBar in the middle of the page until you have all the data, at which point you can safely display it.
These are only suggestions, feel free to ignore them Again, it's a nice app.
First and foremost THANK YOU for the feedback and constructive criticism.
I have had a rough bout getting v1.1 passed through cert, but it does include less jarring transitions, and a progressbar on each deal page for loading. I am also aware of the placeholder names, and that is on the roadmap to get rid of in the fit and polish section of my big OneNote file I have for this app
The Panorama issue was brought to my attention by another trial user. I tested it with both the trial and purchased app and have found it has something to do with the size of the panorama when the app has the ad bar on the bottom. The paid version kills the add and gives you a 3 row view, and it scrolls much nicer. The reason I went this route was for future deals it would be easy and natural to extend the pano indefinitely. That can always change – im not married to it, just like the way it looks.
Hahaha, I know how enticing a panorama control is I used it in the unreleased version of ArkWords with the beta tools. In the end, I went with a pivot, which functioned better. A pivot wouldn't work well in your case, though. Thanks for the quick reply!
My other app, BART Live (http://bit.ly/BARTLive) uses Pivot really well I think. Once there is more content, I belive the Pano will work well creating a wall of deal site icons. If I have to ditch it, I will. It currently housing a WrapPanel with a custom template that I probably should have made into a button template, but I'm a noob
And I am doing my best to reply to feedback as quick as possible. Its intresting to be on this end of the app scene and having so many avanues of contact. Makes having a smartphone super handy.
I currently have a facebook, twitter, email, and now these forums, for both apps.
Ah, good luck juggling all of that! And good luck with your apps
Thanks for the feedback and intrest. keep an eye out for v1.1!
Name: Gesture Calc
Hi,
Would like to mention a new Windows Phone app, Gesture Calc. It is an app I made for the 30 to launch contest last month, but it is also now in the marketplace.
It's a calculator app similar to the one that comes with your phone but with gestures for operations. My thought was that with the touch screens available on smartphones, the standard calculator is kind of boring. So instead of using the buttons, you can trace things like plus, minus, divide, etc. on the bottom of the screen.
The app is completely free, with no trial limits, and does not have any ads. Just looking for any feedback for stuff I can add to the app.
Thanks!

Hmm... What do you mean by that? Do you know people who entertain themselves by calculators??? I know nobody, even my 2 years old daughter (she's prefer Galaxy Tab with colorful games) Calculators are used for calculations, not for entertainment so they can't be "boring".

By "kind of boring" I mean very similar, and without many differences from the layout of calculators from the 60's. The gesture addition is just an experiment to see if people like a feature like that. I don't mean I intend a calculator to be an entertainment app. However, I could add farm animal noises to all the buttons so it is more entertaining though.
Oh, yeah, the farm animal noises - it's what people usually missed from calculators at all
By the way, do you like a gesture feature? Can you calculate more effective or fast with gestures?
that's a good idea to make a "entertainment" calculator

Yeah I actually like using the gestures. Not sure if it is faster though. Haven't tested the speed of doing a bunch of calculations.

nice looking app, will you be expanding to include sources from other countries? Would love some uk deals.
Definitely, that is something we consider almost every day. With regards to the UK, who are some of the bigger UK Deal sources?
Looks freakin' awesome. Kudos on this.

Thanks john9!
Spent a lot of time on the UI, so Im glad it's well received. Trying to figure out some more deals to add, any suggestions on deal sites you would like to see added?
Also testing out a website companion for Deal Flux, but built for any PC user who want's to keep track of the same deals available on the Deal Flux app. Still just testing, but figure I would mention it and see if anyone found any value in it, or has a few suggestions.

And my response
I love the 90s. Good times.
What's that saying about honey, vinegar and bees
not sure why we should care about this.
if you wanted svdo then why buy an s4? the specs were released at least a month in advance.
man.. i really wish i had a custom SGS4 with my avatar on it....
i figure if samsung is watching then i might as well ask
I thought manufactures aren't supposed to post/monitor these sites. Although I'm sure they very well due, I swear I heard that a long time ago. Either way, too funny

I think its great they would reach out to someone like that. Of course its something they have no control over... when its a real bug we never hear anything.

I'm sure they monitor them, but it's not smart for them to post on them as they get ripped by someone no matter what they say. Kind of like the example in the OP above. I'm betting that support person will not be reaching out to anyone again anytime soon!
Its a shame really, they used to have developer relations and tried to reach out to the community with samsungjohn. however its just too much for one person and needs a whole team, we had kernel sources, responses from samsung and just a better connection with them.
its when samsung really took off in the rooting community.
I really miss this feature from the sgs3. It's too bad they cheaped out on us

If Sprint's LTE was anywhere as robust as their 3G (which in itself is not saying much) then this would not be much of an issue, but it's not.
Sometimes you wonder why they make such bone-headed decisions. Why couldn't they just leave the SVDO support in there. I doubt they can point to some incompatibility issue with anything like CPU or SoC or physical design etc..
OP is funny?
SVDO exclusion is almost certainly a Sprint decision, as no other phone besides the s3 and ltevo had it, or will have it.
And referencing T-mobile LTE? really? Missed that announcement where their LTE network is magically complete
