[Q] Rooting Questions - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the best program to use in order to root my Sprint Galaxy Tab and where do I find it?

I prefer z4root. I googled and found it, then copied it to my sd card and installed it. The program took about 5 seconds to to root my tab.

[Q] Connecting Galaxy tab to Ad hoc Network?

Anyone been able to apply a method for connecting a Galaxy tab to a ad hoc wifi network?
I've rooted my tab and poked around for the various fixes but can't get anything to work. I tried the compiled Froyo fix for this but it throws an error when I try to flash the fix using Rom Manager: "failed to verify whole-file signature".
Will this patch need to be resigned for the tab? I'll admit I'm new to the Android world and I'm hoping there's an easy fix for this.
i also want to know how to connect to an ad hoc network. Please help us.
I tether mine using wireless tether on my dinc you just need to enable access control and it will work.
By wireless tether, you mean Bluetooth? What do you mean by "enable access control"?
I have a rooted droid incredible I use "wireless tether" from the market. When you open the app hit menu then access control and just hit enable.
Nope...had me going for a minute though. Funny though,my girlfriends DX can see my ad-hoc tether from my d1?
I would also like to know...
ad-hoc on Galaxy Tab
Having the Galaxy Tab recognize/connect to ad-hoc wireless network is critical for me. Anyone have the answer??
Verizon galaxy tab ad hoc working
After rooting my tab I found this link on the forums: forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7711198&postcount=6
Grabbing the wpa_supicant file from there all I did was use root explorer, which can be found in the android market, to back up my existing wpa_supplicant found in the
/system/bin/ directory at the bottom. Then I copied the newly downloaded file
(after extracting it) and placed it in the above mentioned directory. You will have to press
The r/w button at the top of root explorer in order to enable read write permissions in
/system/bin . I tested this with the wireless tether on my droid original and it works
as advertised.
I am not the one who created this solution nor am I the one who compiled wpa_supplicant
All credit goes to the original author of the solution. I merely wish to convey to you that this solution worked for me. I hope this helps.
*It is important to note th at this was done using a rooted verizon galaxy tab. You will
Have to be at least rooted for this solution to have any chance of working. I used z4root
in order to root my device which can be found by searching these forums or the android market and again I dont claim any credit or participation in the creation of that app.

Yea, you're changing a file on the tab, so as long as you can tether with your inc, you'll be good. This definitely works and is incredibly simple, I'm tethered right now off my droid x.

No luck on rooted tmobile galaxy tab
Maybe this is a total noob problem but, I rooted my tab, followed the instructions and nada. The file says it copied but the date of the file did not change. I refreshed and checked again. I tried to see if the tab would now see my wifi tether from my droid1. No go. My laptop and ipod see the droid wifi but not the galaxy. Any ideas?

Assuming u backed up the original file first to ur sdcard, I actually deleted the one in
/system/bin then copied the modified file there afterward in order to make sure it was replaced and to avoid overwrite issues like that. Give that a try?
And dont forget to mount the folder in "r/w"

This worked great for me. Had to use adb shell and some command line tricks but got the new wpa_supplicant copied and can now use the wifi tether on my phone for internet. Good times.
Thanks!

[Q] G tablet Rom Restore.

Hi.
I need to restore my GTablet to the original Rom but BitTrix gingerbread beta 06 Rom does not allow me to "turn USB Storage" unless there is a Micro Sd Card inserted. Is there a way that I can copy another rom into the root of my device? I tried several diferent file explorers in the market place but there is no way to copy a file into the root of my device, and for that rason I cannot load the "upadte.zip" on Clckworkmod.
I am probably asking a very basic question and I aplogize for that, but I really need somebody's help with this.
Thanks in advance.
After hours of tweeking with the device I was able to load the rom from the ROM MANAGER. Again, Clockwork makes this ansdroid devices unbrickable and totally hackable.

[Q] Can't write to my internal sd

I sure hope someone can help me. I finally rooted my stock 2.1 in the middle of February and then the 2.2 update version came out. I un-rooted the 2.1 version, updated to 2.2 and decided to root again and try out a custom rom. I backed up all of my data using rom manager, downloaded my rom of choice (I wanted to try PARAGON) and connected my phone to the PC. I went to copy PARAGON to the root of my internal SD and it gives me the message "Cannot copy paragon-rc6-full:the disk is write protected. Remove the write-protection or use another disk." (it is now a CD drive instead of a removable drive) I've spent the last two days searching for a way around this to no avail. I saw a few threads that were similar but none provided an answer. As an aside, my camera now says "warning camera failed" and won't take pictures ever since the update to 2.2. Id like to go back to JH7 and start over again but can't copy the rom to the sd to do it. Any help, guidance, or directions where to find help will be greatly appreciated.
Use Odin 3 One-click to go back to a stock rom and start over.

[Q] Help Unlocking Galaxy S SCH-I500

I am new to all of this, I am now in Germany from the US and I am trying to unlock my Samsung Fascinate Galaxy S Hardware I500.04, Build #SCH=I500.ED05, Kernel2.6.32.9, Firmware 2.2.2. I don't have any internet connections but I want to just find a sim card for my phone I have activated USB debugging and used Super One Click to root my phone, it installed super user and then I applied galaxy s Unlock and then got a message that busybox had a problem and to fix it...but I have no clue how to proceed.
It initially created a folder on my phone Galaxy S Unlock and a sub-folder called efs but I am not sure what I should copy to it and how I can actually see all the documents and files when I am stuck using windows vista x64. I tried installing an android explorer program on my computer but the install failed...some config. issues.
Explorer is how I loaded the app programs on my phone by simply copying them to the download folder and once there, simply installed it but still get the same message concerning busybox...I have read the forum but I am not following too well can someone please help me? I forgot to mention I installed z4Root too. I only have access to any downloads on my PC no phone service at all. Can someone set me on the path to success?

[Q] How to root Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE P7320 w/o SD card?

Hi all,
Trying to follow OTA ICS for GT-P7320 Tutrioal, and I fail miserably at "second" - I'm unable to get root access.
Seems like my model is quite peculiar - it's without SD card slot. This seems to be my tab.
The guides state that the SD card slot should be used:
How to root your device
After cwm installation, rooting your device is pretty straight forward:
1. Download Superuser.zip: Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
2. Put it on your sdcard.
3. Start cwm recovery as described above.
4. Select "install zip from sdcard" -> "select zip from sdcard"->"Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip" and confirm selection by choosing "Yes - Install ....."
Step 4 may abort with some error, but if you repeat it for maybe 2,3 or even 4 times, it will finish successfully.
Your phone is now rooted.

Without an SD card slot, what do I do? And how come the guide is mentioning SD card when that's not an option on this model (at least not on my tab)? Do I need a usb-adapter of some kind?
I've searched here and elsewhere for an explanation, and most of all I'm surprised noone seems to have asked about this... So please help me, what am I missing here?
Download superuser to your download subdirectory, it'll default to this directory. Form cwm got to that directory.

Me too 4 years after you have tried. There still is not a solid tutorial on how to do this on this specific device! To boot I updated to 4.0.4 which makes it even more confusing. I am new to this and really exited to research and learn which I have been doing for week sitting here recovering from surgery. There must be someone out there that has done this successfully.

The sdcard folder is in the system folder. Download "File Explorer FX" from playstore . Open FX, select the folder system, then you should see the "sdcard" folder in there. I am a non band had the same problem.
