While looking for a mod to get the screen lock animation from the nexus s (the old tv set turning off animation ) I found an app that does it for you.
It's called Screen off and lock, by Katecca. It's free in the market.
In addition to the nexus s screen lock animation it has several others. The only downside is it doesn't actually use the power button to lock the screen. You have to place a shortcut to the app on your home screen and press it from there.
Just a minor inconvenience to have a neat screen lock animation.
Its ****
But good find!

I'm not really interested in theming my captivate very much (yet...) but I'd absolutely love to change the dumb ass lock screen... I hate the thing.
How might one go about changing this and is there a recommended replacement?
Currently running Cognition 2.1.4, lagfix disabled.
The app that most use is WidgetLocker, as it seems to be the most stable of the lock screen replacement apps. I purchased it, but don't use it because it's not quick enough for my taste.
With the stock lock screen, it's the first thing that pops up when you turn the phone on. With WidgetLocker, I would often get a brief delay where I would see the home screen before WidgetLocker kicked in. I hate that delay, so I've gone back to the stock pattern input lock screen.

Use the app called "no lock" to fix that problem

Tried that, didn't do the trick. Instead of getting a brief glimpse of the stock lock screen, I instead get a brief glimpse of the home screen.
Did you use either the home replacement or the root override? With those, I rarely get the stock screen, maybe 1 in 20 times.
I sort of like the lock screen. IMO, its much better than the Samsung Fascinate's lock screen. It's standard lock screen is the jigsaw puzzle.
I like how the Captivate's lock screen can be slid any direction to unlock, seems to make it really easy for me to just grab the phone and then flick the screen in any direction with my thumb.
anybody had any luck in getting that puzzle lock screen from the vibrant or fascinate? i know we have one when a call has been missed but i want that to be the main lockscreen.
Hi Guys having had Samsungs for a while I am a little out of touch with sense and need some help. I have setup a pattern unlock because I need some security however because of this if I press the power button it shows me the shortcuts for quick unlock and then I have to put my pattern in.
On my old note 2 I could press the power button and it would allow to enter my pattern straight away I don't want to have two screens, I then turned off the lockscreen which means it just comes up with plain black screen and my pattern to unlock - problem solved or so I thought.
That was untill I enabled lock screen controls on poweramp which will now not work unless I have a lockscreen setup but that means two screens to unlock. All I want is to go straight to my pattern and be able to change tracks when locked. It can be done because the TV remote does this can anyone help me please.

You need to go to settings and change your luck screen to none. It will work then pattern only.

Yes I have done that but then the mp3 controls will not work with poweramp and it presents a plain black screen which I can live with but would ideally like a separate wallpaper and I need the controls
Can Anyone help me with this
Greetings,
Happy to report that I grabbed an HTC One this morning and will be moving over from my iPhone 5. I've had every iPhone and at the same time a Nexus 7 tablet so I have some familiarity with Android.
My question is: It the intent that the user will use the apps on the screen that supports wallpaper or the other apps (icons) screen that things appear to toggle between when selecting the centered grid like button?
Thanks!
R
The one with the wallpaper is the home screen, the idea is that you add widgets and your apps to your home screen however you see fit. This way you can check the weather, news, emails, messages etc by just scrolling through the screens. Have a play around with it, it's a far better system than iOS

Also, you can set the "wallpaper" home screen as your "go-to" home page, instead of blinkfeed.
Long press anywhere on an empty part of one of the wallpaper home pages. You'll see the ability to add widgets with all your home screens at the top.
Longpress the second one from the left, and you'll see an option (it pops up above the mini home screens) to set that page as your home.
Swing the page (while you've long pressed it) over that option and it will be your new homepage.
You have options
i am using a lock screen widget....but when i press the widget....it lock the screen but the screen still lighted....so is there any way to use a lock screen widget but completely lock the screen like when pressing in the power button??
Hi!
I'm wondering if I can lock my device without pressing the power button. In my galaxy s9+, I used the "custom navigation bar" app to add an invisible power button to the navigation bar, but this app CRASHED my note9!!!!
I spent 2 hours trying to solve the issue without losing my apps and stuff, successfully. Now I want to use another way to save my power button.
I installed an app called "home launcher" to use the home long press to call another app instead of google search, but every app to lock screen causes the fingerprint sensor to stop working without password.
I miss my old Xiaomi Mi 6
Someone knows how to do this?
you can install an app called "turn off screen (lock screen)" by redmanit from the play store. it gives you the option to put an icon on the homescreen or from your notifications drop down, press it and it'll lock your phone in 5 seconds. this is the only app i know of that works with the note 9's android 8.1
Nova launcher can do it as far as I know.
Installed a 3rd party screen off app. Using the widget Extended Date which then gives you the settings to show time/date/week/day/etc. There's a function to link to any app in this case screen off. Thus touching the date switches off the screen. Been using this setup way back when I still had my Note 2. Still works (both the screen off app and the widget).

Turn on the Assistant Menu. That has a lock button that will turn your screen off. It will not "lock" your phone, just turn off the screen. Screen locks @ whatever you've set as the lock out time (screen locks "x" number of seconds after pressing power button). If you want to "lock" it instantly, requiring password to open, I use Nova Launcher and a screen input gesture. That locks it instantly and requires, I think, your password - not your fingerprint.
See screenies for info.

you can use OHO+ without goodlock though, if you only need the lockscreen gesture.
OHO+ is a "standalone" app, luckily.
Screen lock button in navbar via good lock + navstar ?
